901  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 🏈🏈 The American Football Discussion Thread 🏈🏈 on: September 23, 2022, 08:37:22 PM
Seriously, what was Tomlin thinking on that 4th and 1 while in the redzone needing a touchdown? Perhaps he saw he had no chance to win with Trubisky and chose to sink all the under bettors with him?  Grin

I'm not sure i fully understand his decision, he should have put the offense back on the field, following the penalty, and tried to keep the drive alive and possibly score. Huh I would've gone for it even at 4th and 5... Tomlin had some bad decisions last week as well, an insanely lucky win over the Bengals. Steelers deserved to be 0-3 to start the season. I don't see them doing any better with Trubisky at the helm, Tomlin being overly conservative, and last but not least no TJ Watt.

Lol, that struck me as odd also.  I don't often find myself second guessing Tomlin's decisions, usually that guy is Chess master when it comes to in-game strategies.  I understood settling for a field goal when it was 4th and 5+, but after the 12-man penalty reduced it to 4th a short yard?  The Steelers were down 9 points at the time, and we all know the odds of getting an on-sides kick is slim to none.  The announcers were questioning it a bit too, but decided that going for the sure points was the right call.  I disagree.  It was difficult for his team to get so far down the field, and that possession was one of the few time there got so close to the red zone.  It spoke more about how much (or little) the trusts Trubisky.

@JollyGood, I don't need you to respect me.  I have enough self-respect for both of us.

Speaking of self-respect, one lesson I pushed onto my children; self-respect can often be demonstrated by one's ability to take criticism.  Wink

Cooper was in fact on my radar but I decided to stay away from him because I thought that he was on a boom or bust situation in which he could do very well or he could do horribly.

I like Cooper, but I tend to agree with this.  I had the Cowboys version of Cooper on my Fantasy team last year, and he was hit or miss.  Being that he was one of Dak's favorite targets and considering the Cowboys aggressive air assault, I expected more from him.  Most of the time, however he performed as expected.  I still think he's a valuable addition to any fantasy team, but keep an eye on his opponents.  He'll perform better against undersized corners and safeties, and some teams (Giants) will just lock him up.

That said, it would be so much better if that person disclosed their identity.  It'd put this discussion to bed at the very least.

Would it?  I'm not so sure.  There're a lot of personalities in this forum, not everyone is going to like everyone.  Hell, even Switzerland has made some enemies, and he's about the most even-keeled AI human I've encountered on the interwebs.

Besides, I don't think anyone on the CC team is going to disclose their real name.  The only thing these trolls are asking for is a different, anonymous bitcointalk user name.

905  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Which hardware wallets are open source? on: September 23, 2022, 05:21:36 PM
It's really shocking that I'm just knowing that hardware wallets are of two types just like every other PC and mobile wallets, my thought was every hardware wallets are fully open source until a day ago thanks to this forum still but now which hardware wallet is open source?

I, myself had some confusion about this until a few months ago when I was doing some research about Coinkite's ColdCard hardware wallet.  The thing to keep in mind is that the term "open source" specifically applies to the licensing of an application.  There are several licensing structures that qualify as "open source" but one of the most common is the MIT License.  Essentially, open source licensing is very permissive, i.e. one can copy the software, change it, redistribute it, even profit from it without fear of legal repercussions.

ColdCard is a good example of a trusted wallet that does not use open source licensing for it's firmware.  The software is still transparent, allowing for the community to review it.  However, ColdCard's firware licensing prohibits redistribution of the software (or firmware, in this case.)  This is designed to protect Coinkite's intellectual property, while allowing for the community to verify it is safe to use.

Ledger is another example; their firmware is not open source, and as far as I know, it's not available for review.  Ledger uses a secure element, and I assume they are concerned that if they disclose the firmware that someone could use for it malicious purposes.  However, Ledger Live, the desktop application, is open source and adheres to the MIT License.

Personally, I'm partial to open source hardware wallets and I also recommend the Trezor, which I own and use regularly.  I do also own and use a ColdCard.  The important thing is to know what you're dealing with and assess your own comfort level with the device you choose.
906  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Where to see the seed on: September 23, 2022, 04:21:21 PM
Hi, I recently have some problems with Electrum. I created the account at 2017 and I dont remember the seed & words. I know through the folder of electrum I can search it, but I dont know how the folder its called. I need some help Undecided

Electrum will allow you to see the seed phrase only if it was generated by Electrum itself.  If you imported a Bip39 seed phrase that was generated by Blockchain.info, a hardware wallet, or some other desktop wallet, Electrum will not store the seed phrase (only the master private key) and therefor you will not be able to display the seed phrase.

At this point I suggest you create a new wallet, write down the seed phrase, store it someplace safe, then send all the funds from your old wallet to the new one.

Electrum has an indicator at the bottom right of the window which will let you know if you have an Electrum seed phrase or not:

i decided to take the alt U39.5, just in case. Shit QBs playing on a short week with forecasted bad weather (wind gusts), i think we could see plenty of ground game...Chubb/Hunt could have a field day.

Well, you're up against the wire, there.  I'm rooting for you, hopefully the Browns can hold onto the current score.  Only six minutes left, lets go D!  I'm about to lose my bet one way or the other:

That wind is crazy, you can see the flags on the goalposts mostly horizontal.  It was funny watching that first field goal attempt start out looking perfect, then take a right turn.

I would need help from the community in bug searching and UI improvements.

  • 1. I'm also using Tor, and the graphics in the newly added information box do make the site a bit slow to load.  I didn't inspect the elements, but maybe the file sizes can be reduced a bit?
  • 2. To LoyceV's point, the "Max Supply" in the info box seems stuck at 21M no matter what coin you select.
  • 3. Some additional fiat currencies would be nice; Mexican Peso and Jordanian Dinar, for starters?  Grin

The days of launching an STO, IEO, ICO and other fundraising events to dupe gullible investors are over, the days of tokens and coins being sold to make teams wealthy while investors lost out such as in 2017 and 2018 are over.

I wish I had your optimism, but I don't.  The days of gullible investors on Bitcointalk.org might be over, but that's because we've become a bubble of jaded cynics.  All you have to do is look at all the ads on coinmarketcap, twitter, or the plethora of blockchain explorers to see that they're still going strong.  If those ads weren't working, no one would pay to place them there.  The majority of people are not as experienced with these tricks and scams, and still fit the "gullible" description.

Nations League action tonight, hope some of you brought the bacon home. It can be a struggle to find suitable things to bet on during the international break but the Nations League is always a good option, these games always seems to have lots of goals for some reason.

I’m currently pining for the PL to return Wink

I forgot about the Nations League, no wonder there's so little action in the club leagues right now.  I should have known.  It really sucked that all of last weeks matches got postponed, and this weekend is bleak as well.  At least know I know why, and will make sure to catch the England Italy match tomorrow.  That should be a fun one.
913  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 🏈🏈 The American Football Discussion Thread 🏈🏈 on: September 22, 2022, 08:54:37 PM
Going to have to disagree with this.  Jimmy G is not a long term option.  They drafted Lance for a reason and they have not seen what they have in him yet.

I'm not so sure that's the case, actually.  Garoppolo is only 30 years old which puts him about middle aged for a typical QB lifespan.  Most of the greats didn't start really coming into their own until their late twenties, early thirties.  Remember how Green Bay drafting Jordan Love seemed to light a fire under Rodgers' ass?  Maybe Shanahan didn't plan it that way, but imagine yourself in Garoppolo's predicament; losing your job to youngster would very likely motivate you to become the best version of yourself.  If nothing else, Garoppolo now knows he has nothing to lose when it comes to his longevity with the Niners, and can only cause management to reconsider their position.  Maybe he'll lose those 4th quarter jitters now that he knows only by taking risks can he overcome the perceptions of his limitations.

Admittedly, Garoppolo and Rodgers have starkly different personalities, so all the above may be nothing but wishful thinking.  But, I do wish Garoppolo would succeed, he's proven to be a winning quarterback, and other than his fragility and 4th quarter/Big Game jitters, there's really very little to complain about.

The Falcons are in desperate need for a QB and the upcoming draft has a decent crop of them, so as long as the Falcons suck like most expect them to, they will be drafting one.

I haven't really paid much attention to the Falcons since they're no longer in the NFC West Roll Eyes (remember that shit?), so I wasn't aware of their QB blues.  Unfortunately there aren't a bunch of good backups warming benches these days, so it looks like they're better served playing for the draft.

The problem is, that also doesn't say anything about the team's loyalty to the unproven QB. Granted Lance doesn't have a huge contract impacting the cap, so they'll probably keep him unless they have a very compelling offer, but I'm thinking that if a good opportunity comes up (draft or trade) they'd dump him in a heartbeat.

The same could be said about any team in the league.  Teams regularly ask productive players to restructure their salaries "for the benefit of the team" and if a player chooses not to, he's criticized as being out for himself.  Brady did that for decades in NE, but the minute he decided to get a semi-retirement job on the beach, decades of compromising were forgotten.  If the team decides to move on from a player it's the opposite, and justified simply by saying things like "it was a necessary business decision."  It's a sad commentary about the game, but that's the reality of it.

Atlanta was just the first horrible QB-less team that came to my mind, I'm sure there are other options, maybe Panthers or Texans Smiley

I doubt any team will trade for the kid, in all honesty.  He didn't have a lot of playing time in college, and so far he hasn't shown us much of his abilities in the NFL.  Now that he's injured, I really can't see any team offering a whole lot for him, and considering what the Niners have invested I don't see them settling for a low-ball offer.

But TBH I was just making fun of niners "blockbuster" trade to get Lance, and the QB-heavy 2021 draft in general. None of them set the NFL on fire, albeit most ended in shitty teams by design and it's still early.

That's the double edges sword of being an early draft pick; odds are you'll end up going to the shittiest team in the league (unless you're Eli Manning.)

But the Niners deserve all the criticism they're getting for giving up so much for Lance.  To this day I don't believe he was Shanahan's first choice, despite the team's claims that Lance was the plan all along.  I think Mack Jones would have been a better choice, or they should have traded back once they realized they were misled by Robert Salah.  All indication were that Shanahan believed Salah wasn't going for a QB, and Kyle Mack would still have been available for the third pick.  Most people around here believe that's the only reason Shanahan traded the farm for that third pick in the first place.

Knowing Shanahan, he probably tried to trade back once he realized Mack was taken, but wasn't getting the offers he wanted.  I can just imagine him feeling like a shitcoin bag-holder after a dump once Salah took Mack.  In fact, I felt the same way.  Cry
914  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Does it make sense to use extra custom words to electrum seed? on: September 22, 2022, 05:38:39 PM
If you agree, how many extra custom words should you add to your seed?
I wouldn't use any custom words to replace standard electrum words.
There is a good reason why someone made system like this, as a balance of security and usability, so making more complications and inventing wheel again is not needed and can result is losing of funds.
However, it's not a bad idea to use one more passphrases, for example that would be a good idea if you have two kids and you want them to have your Bitcoin inheritance.
Give them each same seed words, and each of them should have a different passphrase, so they can split inheritance.

You are correct, replacing words in the seed phrase is not recommended.  In fact, it's very likely that would break the checksum of the seed phrase (whether electrum or bip39.)  But, I think the OP is referring to the seed extension (Bip39 passphrase,) not the seed itself.

917  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Trezor Suite now supports coin control on: September 22, 2022, 04:01:25 PM
Trezor has been improving Trezor Suite in very practical ways since they launched it.  By adding Coin control they pretty much make it as practical of a wallet client as Electrum in most standard use-cases.  I don't use Trezor Suit very much myself, usually only if I'm dealing with the few alts that I still have.

Trezor Suite allows us to connect directly to a self-hosted Electrum server, and now with coin-control it will help maintain privacy.  Pretty cool upgrade, kudos to the Trezor team for making this a priority.

Locked utxos cannot be spent as they are in a multisig where the trade peers has the other key

Thanks for the clarification.  I honestly never thought about what the difference was, but that makes perfect sense.  Had I paid attention, I guess I would have noticed that only coins engaged in an active trade are marked as "locked."
920  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: [ANN] Bisq - Exchange, Decentralized. on: September 21, 2022, 08:24:52 PM
Being the aforementioned issue with taproot addresses and bitcoinj present in any version of bisq, updating to 1.9.5 still warrants new exciting features like the status light at bottom right!  Cool Grin

It's hardly an issue as much as it is a feature that would be nice to have.  And of course you're right, previous versions wouldn't have that feature either.  As for the status light; it is nice to have as an indicator of network status.  It does tend to capture my attention and add to my anxiety when it isn't green.  Grin

Regarding sending to taproot addresses; if one is careful not to spend locked or reserved UTXOs, Electrum can be used to send funds to taproot addresses.  It is worth noting that the Bisq team does not recommend using Electrum with your Bisq wallet because of the extra caution required when dealing with coin control.
