I sent some Gemz from Poloniex to my Android phone app over 30 mins and still not showing up. The txs hash d5a3343be7c7fc4c8e86a096c5c06f052ee8c2130187d1429f1b825161dee101 doesn't show in the blockscan.

How long does it take?

Edit: maybe I my send amount was to small? I only sent 2 Gemz's

Well it looks like you only sent 1 Gem? and actually its exactly 30 mins now as I'm posting so maybe you sense of time is a bit off if this is the transaction.

https://www.blockscan.com/tx?txhash=d5a3343be7c7fc4c8e86a096c5c06f052ee8c2130187d1429f1b825161dee101
I sent 2 gemz from Poloniex, 1 gemz was taken as a tx fee, the timestamp on Poloniex says 2015-05-04 15:25:20, so no, my sense of time isn't a bit off.

Well I did re-edit my comment to remove that point cause I realised their may be some kind of delay in the pipeline that wasn't on you. Which obviously there is about 15 min lag from you sending to it recording on the blockchain which I would be more inclined to put on sending from an exchange probably. I've waited hours, days for transactions from exchanges, generally you can't judge anything conclusive from it.

i don't even know if this is possible.  i do not own an android so i thought i would find some place i can purchase the coin.  but then the question is, where can i find the wallet to send the coins too?  i would rather have control of it on my computer than have it stored somewhere else.

am i just wishful thinking and it is not worth it to try?

The app is really a front for a perfectly secure wallet and is only reflecting your account, i.e. tokens are not actually stored on your phone. But if you don't want to touch the app at all then you simply (I think) you can just create a counterpart wallet and send your gems or Bitcoin to it.

Maybe do a test or wait till someone confirms this cause I'm not 100% you don't first have to have an app generated wallet but I'm pretty sure you don't. So just make a wallet with counterparty and don't forget your passphrase.

Hi,
Over the last few days, I've been testing on already hard-core Bitcoin people as well as never-had bitcoin newbies here in Tokyo. I've thought of following:- (iOS market share is the highest in the world here in Japan at around 60% of smart phone.)

1. I realized it is incredibly hard to get hard-core Bitcoin people to install this app.
--Reaction:- oh I have no more memory, I have enough IM apps, etc. I think GetGems is not techie enough and too pinkish for geeks?

2. I realized if I want to sprinkle some first bitcoins on a cute newbie girl, I will get her message ID automatically. And she can ask me questions via GetGems Message.

3. Can GEMS project team reward the users if they report bugs by sending some GEMZ? Eg. Create crash report button? And, if this model works, would GetGems be useful for Bitcoin exchanges to for bug reporting, customer support and perhaps, sending announcements? (even before advertising platform is completed.)

What do you guys think?

Messenger apps take time and also some decent media coverage to build up a support base. Even the big messenger apps seem to of taken a year or so before they blew up in numbers...it takes time. I'm surprised Bitcoin enthusiasts dismiss the app but maybe so. I noticed recently that NXTTY messenger which I honestly don't think is any good and has none of the motivations that Gems has to join has pushed over 5,000 downloads. My point is the first stage might seem like a slog to get to the first stage of having maybe 10,000-50,000 downloads but things can pick up pace after you get to that stage I think.

Forget Bitcoiners who tend to be dismissive of 'alt coins' and once the airdrop is operational focus on newbies with the simple idea that this messenger app pays you to use it and you can make quite a bit of money, i.e. a couple of hundred dollars (which isn't an exaggeration at this stage I believe). Tell them like its an insider secret from a buddy that released the app to get coins now while there isn't too many users to share the airdrop.  Tongue

I don't actually use messenger apps but I wish someone who does would make one of the those top 10 Messenger app videos or top 10 apps period on Youtube.

One thing I wonder about is if newbie users have an easy way to check how the price of Gems/Bitcoin is developing chart wise over time. Maybe it would clutter the app but for most of us I'm sure we spend a lot of time looking at alt coin charts, just knowing the price of something isn't enough, we want to see the chart. maybe this could be linked off the app, even in settings maybe.

I've asked before and got no answer but when is the predicted time for the daily airdrop to start?

I planned to wait to invite friends when it was live so people I invite could see the daily amounts add up which I think is an attractive feature for new users.

That's the most important feature. As soon as that works 100% this can hit 1mil downloads without problem.
Everybody loves to generate some buck from nothing, it's just human nature.

It is for getting new users excited and engaged for sure. Otherwise you have to tell people to wait a month or two which by then a user can completely forget about an app. Even a week or two is too much, new users need to hit the road running in my opinion.

Next developer update will cover this issue.

Cheers Daniel and Congratulations for this milestone met.

Sorry dude, you missed out on the one and only bitcoin. There will be no others. Sorry to burst your bubble!
Don't forget the year Bitcoin exploded to 1000$, Litecoin performed better and made more per $ invested.

that is true.. but where is LTC today? Cheesy

I don't think any pure coin has a chance against Bitcoin. The projects to look out for are not Bitcoin rivals but projects that will grow due to the success of Bitcoin and the blockchain tech.
931  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Looking for the next Bitcoin. on: April 29, 2015, 07:42:30 PM
There's nothing wrong with Bitcoin. People are just hoping to make a fast buck.
First answer and nailed it 100% Cheesy
When you don't know what it is about, its about money Tongue

Dumb and simplistic.

Many new projects are not really coins but tokens, so you are really buying a stake in the success of the company. And here's the thing, many are based on the blockchain and the success of Bitcoin so to be against them is to say the blockchain has no purpose.
I think the fact that there are so many pump and dumps have tarnished the reputation of alt coins but it's definitely needed to open minded and not cult like when believing in Bitcoin, other things can come and you can be kicking yourself for missing out later if you are blindly following one thing.

Agree. And I do actually think that 99% of alt coins are a pure joke however thats the penalty for freedom, i.e. people also do stupid stuff, morally questionable and outright scams but anyone who loves freedom has to take the rough with the smooth. But good stuff rises to the surface in the end and like you say being blinkered into one way of thinking only means you miss opportunities.

What if the chat app gets a million users? (not uncommon to many chat apps)

A million brand new holders of a digital token?

Still. BTC has the market cap. It wont be easy to just take it from BTC. Don't get me wrong. Its possible, just highly unlikely.

Your not getting it, A million people holding a digital currency, how many holders of Bitcoin are their really? A million or three?

And also don't get me wrong Bitcoin is also helped as the wallet contains a bitcoin wallet. Users are EVERYTHING to a currency. Imagine just fro example Whatsapp users was the same system as Gems with the same amount of users then Bitcoin would look like like a second rate altcoin in comparison. We are talking 100 billion plus value. No one is saying Gems could become Whatsapp but even a few hundred thousand users would make a mockery of NXT etc overnight that have a user base of I suspect 10,000 max.

Plus no one is late to the party IF bitcoin is to become anything more than a niche geek project. You don't have a global currency valued at 3 billion dollars, (rolls eyes) Bitcoin IF it does half of what people think it will do then price wise its peanuts still.

Like any two polarised groups (i.e. Altcoin vs Bitcoin) the truth is usually somewhere in the middle. While I think we all need to focus on one coin as the main digital currency Altcoins have some hope for a few reasons. Firstly the world is not just one currency however strong the dollar is it has competing currencies which adds balance. Secondly its a valid argument that with Bitcoin with a market cap of a few billion the decision to whether Bitcoin will be the 'King' of digital currencies is in its infancy. If some alt coin for example manages to break the mainstream then in a short time Bitcoin could look obsolete, google coin, FB coin anyone? (hopefully not but they do have the upper hand in terms of ability to break the mainstream). There are others I could give but you get my point.

But the big mistake Bitcoin Bros make is that some new alts aren't really coins and aren't competing with Bitcoin, they are actually tokens for a system giving it the ability to become decentralised. One I believe in is Getgems which has the ability to decentralise social media.

Great news!

I haven't tried it yet but going on past bugs and early reports of bugs I got to ask the question why do so many bugs turn up between competeing an app and sending it to the store. I don't want to be a dick but why are there so many? Why are they not seen before a version is released. I know bugs are part of any development but many of the bugs are seen after a minute or two, it's not like they are really hard to see. Like I said I'm not trying to be a dick I just want to understand the process where this occurs when you got so many smart programmers I assume staring at this app 24/7.

What was the price in ico? I cannot find that anywhere ... ?

The price was staggered over the ICO. Very generally speaking the price now for most ICO buyers is around 10-30% down on the ICO depending on when you bought, for the last buyers we are nearly 50% down, plus you got to factor in the price of BTC then and now. Generally speaking we are in fire sale territory. I wish I saved my BTC and bought now cause I personally don't think the price will go lower from where it is now.

Is this thread the de facto place for all feedback?..

BUG: Passphrase not declared at wallet creation!

Having created a wallet on a tablet; associated a phone number; put a photo to it; etc, I come back and it's asking for a passphrase made during initial signup!

I'm no noob and saw no passphrase and now appear to be locked out!.. All I did see was a choice of username and pin number, which did surprise me but it went into the wallet, so that I could use it in a basic way. So, I've just created another test username and see that the passphrase is hidden in the settings!.. and unusually we cannot logout and secure the wallet, without typing that passphrase in, at which point you discover it behind the pin number.

What happens to a user that does not logout and then know their passphrase and needs to log back in again???

I wonder that new wallets NEED to make the passphrase known to the user.. fiddly as that maybe on a phone. There's something wrong that a user can plough through and not have that passphrase made safe. Fortunately, I didn't put any money to that wallet although some referrals might fall that way.

I'll ask what I expect will become a FAQ: Is there an option still to recover that wallet with my name, given that I only know the pin?.. or is there an option for the server to forget that username (davidpbrown) exists and I recreate it?.. Perhaps not important but I can see this annoying a lot of people who might do the same and also put their bought GEMZ to it. Also, I notice that new usernames I create seem to adopt the phone number and photo, phonenumber I understand, profile photo I wouldn't expect.

I'd suggest, if users have not see their passphrase, that they look for it in settings and make a note of it!!! Sad

The previous version gave you the ability to save the passphrase to your phones gallery during sign up, i think they removed this step to make the sign up with less steps, instead it now warns you to make a note of it before you log out i think, i think they should add the possibility to save the passphrase to gallery when this warning window pops up when you want to log out.

I'm wondering aswell if a users logs out without their passphrase noted how he will be able to enter his account.

Personally speaking I found the ability to take a photo of the password phrase essential.

Honestly in terms of adding innovative features I dont think Gems has any problems, i struggle to keep up with them these days.  Cheesy
Keep suggestions coming though I think the developers are open to anything that adds to the app's success.
