941  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Are you waiting for the collapse of the fiat system to trigger BTC adoption? on: April 27, 2015, 10:15:19 AM
Or are you waiting for bitcoin to gradually become popular alongside fiat?

What are you waiting for?

If the fiat system collapses, so will all our utilities.  Bitcoin is useless with electricity and the internet.   Undecided

Someone has been watching too many Mad Max movies. So when the Argentinian currency for example collapsed did the whole world lose electricity?

Yep, if you think about it this is a non-issue. As soon as fiat collapses all the private security contractors will begin accepting bitcoin as payment. They fight for nothing but money so what else will they do when everybody starts shoveling their fiat into the fireplace to warm their houses? Once the mercenaries realize bitcoin is the only dependable currency the first thing they will do is take over the electricity and communications infrastructures to secure their source of income which will immediately become bitcoin. At that point those who were sensible enough to set aside at least a little bitcoin just in case this scenario unfolds will be the only ones able to guarantee their security when pandemonium breaks out. Everyone else will be at the mercy of the bitcoin holders. This is why it's important that the bitcoin community works diligently to expand the bitcoin community to include as many people as possible, before all this blows up. That is, of course, IF it all blows up. For all I know the fiat system will find a way to perpetuate itself for further centuries. But I'm holding on to at least a little crypto just in case.

Even if Bitcoin isn't massively used during a fiat collapse then it still will serve the same purpose Gold has. ie preservation of wealth.....and likely increase it a lot.

The truth is gold and Bitcoin doesn't always have that much use during a collapse, people just want food etc. it what it does is when assets have crashed to the floor you can come in and buy them for peanuts. This is the whole purpose of owning Gold etc, to get to the other side of the disaster intact.

if I was American I would want in order.
1. Log cabin, stocked with canned food.
2. Reliable water source.
3. Electrical generator/solar.
4. Gold/Bitcoin.

Where you put a gun into that order is up to personal choice.

Has thought been given to how useful GetGemz is for a single user?.. It's important that the network is well seeded and if it can be useful without having a substantial network, perhaps that will help bed it down. I wonder, is content visible to public - is there a direct url to each users content? Promoting the most active channels might help create excitement. If GetGemz is a magnet for users who do not already know other users, that might help engage a user base who does find everyone there.

Other quick impressions, some of the app looks great but customisable colours and backgrounds will be a big plus.. pink isn't to everyones taste and in the absence of content flowing it might keep a new user busy and help them have something invested.

Also, perhaps consider what QQ's tencent http://t.qq.com/ does to engage new users, with rewards for activity - badges and bonus features for creating activity. It's frustrating at first to have to get points in order to not just use from the default selection of backgrounds but if you get the points system right, it can give a sense of achievement.. GetPointz for playing the game.. and of course perhaps in GetGemz, points mean prizes (Gemz). Cheesy

Perhaps also suggest other users to connect to. Find community celebrities that everyone can follow.

I don't disagree with most of what you have suggested but I think many of those suggestions are more appropriate a little bit further down the line. The app you re fenced I assume has millions of users. Lots of things can be possible if we have a few million users honestly. I personally think the developers should look at the Kaokao talk model. First we need to get to 'first base' and get the app out and see how viral we can make it by inviting friends and contacts. The customisable app in terms of color is likely to come soon though.
943  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Why do you get so mad? It's not like I shot your dog. on: April 27, 2015, 04:57:26 AM
Why do people in the altcoin community take their investments so personally? If someone goes to the ANN thread of almost any coin and asks an honest question that may not make the coin look good, people become hostile. If they go to that thread and express an opposing opinion, they are treated like the Devil himself.

I've never seen such nonsense with any other investment. Most GM stock holders couldn't care less whether I like GM or not. So why are so many altcoin investors so childlike in that regard? What do you think?

Altcoins don't get much media attention. Forums are where people hear and learn about them. This forum is the hotbed of activity for altcoin discussion. A coin's reputation can be tarnished if it's constantly trashed on this forum.

Different situation for Bitcoin, it has lots of media exposure, which is why it's more likely for bitcoin bashing to be ignored even though this IS a Bitcoin forum.

No, only an unrealistic potential can be burst, no one can convince anyone a great prospect is crap unless they have some actual proof. maybe they can push the price down a bit, but even that is a service to supporters who can buy cheaper.

The fact is very few coins have genuine potential, even NXT etc only has a few thousand users, it's hardly stable as currency yet, DUH.

My favourite coin at the Moment is GEMS cause it aims to get thousands of users through its app which it has a fighting chance to. IF it manages to do that do you think FUD can destroy it? FUD just pricks the bubbles of BS that's all.
944  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Why do you get so mad? It's not like I shot your dog. on: April 27, 2015, 04:51:33 AM
I hate all these attacks on FUD and FUDDERS, so stupid.

Like you can destroy a currency if you say bad words on a forum lol. It's the defenders of FUD that are the real problem, they are over sensitive about creating a bubble of BS either to fool others or more often than not fool themselves. Any decent coin supporters should say bring on the FUD it won't make any difference.

why does it have in-app purchases?

?

Not sure it does...

well it doesn't have if you search inside the app, it doesn't say anywhere, but you go to google play and it will say that the app has in-app purchases

That was where I was looking. I don't see it.

The name will kill this app. GetGems sounds silly and stupid.
The color is also ugly. It needs an option to customize the color.

I like the name, they said the same about WhatsApp and tons of other apps. GetGems makes sense because the app is about users paying each other and being rewarded so getting Gems, so it's pretty well thought, it already has grown into people and they are familiar with it.

I think the name is ok but I'm not sure about the label on Google play. Putting Telegram in the name takes some of the uniqueness away possibly, seems like it's just an add on to Telegram. I'm gonna trust the developers have reasons though for this.

I'm surprised we aren't in the App Store by now.

Any problems?
950  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Breaking News! Gavin and Bitcoin Core devs join MIT Media Labs on: April 23, 2015, 03:07:45 PM
I was hoping for a whole lot more decentralization of the core development on a global front, not centralization in a single country. The salaries could have been crowd funded and the development could have been done in a geographical decentralized manner. There are too many countries holding back on Bitcoin, based on their concerns with the USA being in control of the core development. ^very sad^

Agree. Plus the funny thing is the most talented people often don't work on projects for the money anyway. They do it for the tech challenge to solve a problem and the belief they are helping humanity etc. As quite a selfish person I'm amazed at how much effort people really will put into projects but there it is. I fact people who will only work for money are likely the ones you don't want involved. I bet Satoshi didn't plan on making a ton of money for himself.

I'm genuinely suspicious of people on here pushing for regulation and centralised input. You can bet there are a ton of FBI etc staff among users here.
951  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Breaking News! Gavin and Bitcoin Core devs join MIT Media Labs on: April 23, 2015, 03:00:04 PM
@yayayo Gavin leaving the Bitcoin Foundation is essentially admitting TBF is a mistake.

Look who they put in charge!  None other than that pedophile Brock Pierce:

http://www.coindesk.com/brock-pierce-bitcoin-foundation-board-chairman/

Where is this crowdfunding going towards Bitcoin that you speak of?  There's nothing coming in.  It takes substantial money and resources to lead and develop a project of this magnitude.  Gavin was in the absolute right to leave TBF, and landing/partnering at MIT Media Labs of all places, is an absolute godsend.

Thats great Gavin gets paid. Phew.

Got to love short term thinking. Look if Bitcoin needed funds for any development it could of been found rather than go to the people that are more than likely gonna get tapped to hack, recreate it or worse. Hooray for shortsighted planning. Talk about cutting off your nose to spite your face.

After update, the app was not associated with any wallet in my Samsung S3 phone, however I entered 12 words to open my wallet in new update but the wallet which has been opened is a different wallet! I check my wallet in countrwallet and the address is also different with the address in app! i checked 12 worlds more than 10 times (i did copy and paste also) . everything I entered is correct but the wallet which is opened in app is different with my wallet in countrwallet.  Huh

Read back from last update. This is so you now have an off chain wallet and on chain. So you can keep you tokens safer on old wallet or you can now move some to your app wallet (think of it as a real wallet you wouldn't have thousands of dollars in) Your app wallet will now receive airdrops etc and can send gems quickly without charge.

Haven't updated yet but from the screenshots the design is looking streamlined and great.
954  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: NEM (XEM) Official Thread -100% Original Codebase - Over 70 Active Team Members on: April 23, 2015, 03:06:21 AM
That guy is a known lying troll. Not just of NEM but any coin that he thinks threatens NXT.

That's an absolute lie. I have never said anything negative about any top 20 coin. Post proof for your lie, asshole. Post the link where I trolled any top 20 coin. I will bet you won't post proof because you are a liar.  What I said is actually true. 71% of nem  are controlled by 6 people. I warned you guys to burn unclaimed stakes or I am going to complain about it forever.

Nothing I said was a lie.

The number "6", is a lie. The word "controlled" is to misconstrue. These people are signatories and custodians to the funds. Therefore, the statement has a negative sense to it and is tantamount to a lie.

Who are you to "warn us"? We do not want to end up  having to beg for money to sustain the future of the initiative. We will do what is best for NEM. And so far, the people who are in custody of the funds have been doing a great job in perpetuating NEM. If you think otherwise, then so be it. You don't have to continue to harp about it. You have your opinions, others too, have their opinions.

If you believe NEM is such a bad investment, then it would be good to just sell away your stakes and move on. Your continual presence and negative comments are proof of your desire to want to destroy this initiative. Everything is said in bad faith. Said too long and too often, it will only mean that you have bad intentions. So, in the end, even if you mumbled truth they are to be taken as lies. Heard of the famous saying, "cried wolf too many times"? That's what you are doing.

I have an opinion too, you have no right to think you can avoid criticism.
955  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: NEM (XEM) Official Thread -100% Original Codebase - Over 70 Active Team Members on: April 23, 2015, 02:58:56 AM
The truth is this, NXT apart from the fact the developer probably made quite a bit (just like Satoshi) was similar to any other coin. What people hate is a few people got rich from it.

Apart from them people bought NXT on the open market with Bitcoin that served a good way to fairly distribute. I mean if you are willing to spend your Bitcoin then you are personally using up the wealth you have to buy. NEM distribution is by committee not market so actually its a warped distribution that many could of manipulated. The best distribution has been ICO sales like GEMS when people have to risk their hard earned coins to invest in the coin. And you end up with a large number of investors with quite an even distribution. So please if you support NEM never mention fairness or good distribution cause you make yourself look foolish.

And just incase you didn't get it the only reason people are interested in new coins is the UNFAIR distribution of them. What if everyone in the world got a share of a coin, maybe 1 dollar or a few cents. Would anyone care? No, what attracts people to this forum is the chance to benefit from an 'unfair' distribution, anyone who denies that is lying to themselves.

When will people stop being impressed by 'big names' and 'powerful' organisations and start thinking most of them have your welfare as last on one big friken list of priorities. Its embarrassing to read on a Bitcoin forum. A desperate need to be accepted by the powers this technology is designed to fight. Who do you think groups like the NSA get all their tech knowledge to screw the hell out of you on a daily basis.

Damn it people, get some balls.

Was already accepted by app store but an improved version was sent for approval and is due hopefully to hit the app store literally any day now.

I like GetGems, but there is a lack of information about the plan of implementing functionality and developing the GetGems App.

Ask the same question after reading everything in the OP including the 20 page Q&A and at least a few of the most recent development updates and then people won't roll their eyes at this kind of question.

Is gemz a decentralized app? or just the token system?
messaging is completely p2p or saved on a server?

Don't take this as 100% accurate but the app is based on a telegram so your basically using messenger with Telegram so they use end to end encryption, you could find more detail reading about Telegram.

The token is based on counterparty so again if you want to know about that then go to counterparty, but yes its decentralised.

There is some element of decentralised for the airdrop and maintenance of the app, how much that is I don't know. but your communication and your tokens are ultimately not actually based on the app but the two projects I mentioned. So for all intents and purposes yes its decentralised with no info stored.

Thanks for your reply.

I don't see why spending time and effort on a clone of an existing messenger. only to be able to transfer cryptocurrencies in-app?
So much work is done on decentralization of services, y not build a messaging dapp? makes much more sense.

Gemz will be much more attractive as a pure p2p dapp.

Originally it was an original app, it was decided to use the Telegram app as an open source platform. I have positive and negative feelings about it but also the Team have said they will only use it as long as it serves their purposes. It's actually mainly psychological if you think about it though, no need to invent the wheel if someone already has. The big plus is a telegram already has millions of users so for them to switch to gems means they can still use their contacts, there is nothing really negative about using Telgram apart from as I said psychological.

I would research more what Gems is, cause the big thing about Gems is not the app or even the token but the attention model that means the user is paid for allowing targeted advertising. And even as a straight app that sends crypto i have yet to see one that does it anywhere near as elegantly as gems and has btc and other coins as future currencies in the app. It's the killer btc app in my mind, and if it gets a few million users, whether it uses Telegram or not , it simply won't matter.

All I can say is that I wish Gemz good luck, I really do

But when other messaging dapps will soon appear, I don't think that the attention model will be enough for user who are scared for their privacy to use this app.

Mainstream will keep using terrible apps like Whatsapp, while the other will use the most secure ones.

The project will stand or fall on how many users it gets period, which makes this pretty FUD free, even the worst FUDers know that. I will be the first to abandon and sell if ai don't see the user count rise when we get into full swing.

But I got to be suspicious of your intentions as to me your account looks like a well maintained sock puppet account to use to promote your own project. just an opinion so don't waste time firing back.
