961  Economy / Economics / Re: After 1 year of Covid 19 Virus on: June 29, 2021, 07:22:51 PM
The problem nowadays is that no one is to be trusted. You have one side claiming vaccines are the solution and the other side saying vaccines cause a lot of side effects and will just turn things worse. Both sides are liars and deceptive, only repeating narratives they are told by others, meanwhile people trying to understand what the facts are become lost in the middle of this war of false or half true narratives.
I think only time will tell if vaccines are really efficient and if side effects are acceptable. By there all informations emerging are nothing more than pure speculation.

No one is denying the fact that these vaccines can cause side effects. I took the Pfizer vaccine a few weeks ago, and I had slight fever for two days. Many of my friends had body pain and high fever after they took the vaccine. And the adverse effects seems to be worse for the younger individuals. But here the question is whether these adverse reactions are serious enough to skip vaccination. IMO, they are not. I would say that getting a high fever is much more preferable than dying from COVID or suffering from permanent lung damage.
962  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Mircea Popescu died leaving 1 Million BTC behind? on: June 29, 2021, 06:52:32 PM
Yes, this definitely leaves a suspicion similar to the case of Gerald Cotten who went to India and reportedly passed away, while also taking with him all the private keys of his crypto exchange. Of course, the situation is not nearly the same in the sense that Popescu is scamming someone (although there are various accusations against him), but money can buy everything, especially in countries where everyone is corrupt.

Information that can be found about him says that the man was a racist and sexist, and that his blog was even banned in India. When we draw the line below everything, he was definitely (or still is) a controversial person.

https://gadgets.ndtv.com/cryptocurrency/news/mircea-popescu-bitcoin-billionaire-dies-at-41-2474796

I have been to India multiple times, and I have resided there for months. I have relatives and friends in India. And based on all this, let me say that it is not impossible for someone to fake his death in India. If you have the money, and in case you have the "connections", then these sort of operations can be done with ease. Now I don't have any evidence to prove that Gerald Cotten (of QuadrigaCX) faked his death and he is still alive. But I am saying that there is a strong possibility that he might have done it.
963  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: ODI cricket and general cricketing discussion [self - mod] on: June 29, 2021, 06:09:03 PM
England's got an easy victory. Before that Sri Lanka all out at just 185 runs, this is very below total posted by Sri Lankan team. If they maintain such poor performance in upcoming matches then they have no chance. Very likely England will win every match against Sri Lanka. The present English squad is much stronger than Sri Lanka. We cricket fans hopes that SL at least showed some fight.

Sri Lanka has near zero chance in this series even to win a single match. The golden era of Sri Lankan cricket is long gone, and the current team is drastically different from the one which managed to lift the ODI world cup in 1996. Among the test playing teams, Sri Lanka is perhaps the team which has declined the most. The same can be said about West Indies as well, but in their case at least they are very good in the T20 format. Sri Lankan cricket seems to be sinking, without any chance of recovery. They lost the T20 series 0-3. We can expect a similar result with the ODI series as well.
964  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: BNB has tokens for each Altcoin on: June 29, 2021, 05:32:57 PM
It is also real litecoin but it is in BSC Network. You can check on binance deposit option or withdraw option. You will get 3 type of Network for LTC. LTC Main Blockchain Network, BEP2 Network (BNB Main Network) And BEP-20 (BSC) Network.

The LTC that is available in BEP2 and BEP20 are not the real LTC coins, right? My understanding is that they will be the tokens issued by Binace against LTC. Although the value will be the same, it is slightly more riskier. I had bad experience with exchanges several times in the past. I know that Binacne is having an excellent reputation, but I would still be wary about trading and owning these tokens. But in case of Litecoin, I can understand. It is not easy to store LTC in some of the online wallets that are freely available.
965  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why do ordinary people feel afraid of Bitcoin? on: June 29, 2021, 05:06:00 PM
I will be rejected because of this, but BTC is bad because it is completely technically obsolete (transactions require eternity, high fees, no smart contracts, etc.). Of course, people will say "this is a store of value." Because it cannot fill any other roles.

Having said that, I deeply respect it. Without it, who knows whether cryptocurrency will exist. This idea is indeed advanced. But none of these give it value

There is no doubt that certain drawbacks are there for Bitcoin. As you have mentioned, high fees and delays in getting confirmations are some of them. But remember that the developers are working hard to get around these issues. Lightning Network is being touted as a solution for these issues, but right now it is not very user friendly. But as I mentioned, the developers are working hard to make it less complicated and accessible for everyone. And hopefully, a majority of the users will be using LN within a few years time.
966  Bitcoin / Press / Re: 2021-06-23 Forbes - Say Goodbye To Bitcoin And Say Hello To The Digital Dollar on: June 29, 2021, 10:50:53 AM
The reason why so many people are interested in Bitcoin is not due to its digital format. The real reason is that it is protected against inflation due to the principle of controlled supply. If we just want a digital form of currency, then why can't we use PayPal or some other digital fiat? Now this so called digital dollar may be slightly different in format, but in practical usage there is hardly any difference from PayPal. The media is just overhyping it as the next big thing, but there is zero chance that it will be able to replace Bitcoin.
967  Other / Politics & Society / Re: India covid19 crisis on: June 29, 2021, 10:19:13 AM
Yikes, so this what happened why the Delta variant has came out and mutated and what I've heard there's already the Delta + and that's more contagious than the first one.
But whichever the variant between the two, the spread became quicker and it's also in the US and other Asian countries. Btw, even if the curve is starting to flat on India, the daily cases is still high.

From what I have heard, the state of Maharashtra has so far reported 21 cases of Delta plus, with some of the other states reporting cases in single digits. It is known that this strain is highly contagious. But so far, only a few such cases have been found in India. The biggest worry is that this strain will spread like the Delta variant and cause huge number of deaths. Delta strain mostly affected those who are below 45 years of age, and in this age group the death rate was around 50 times greater than the rate with the original strain.

And one final note here. A recent study found that almost all the deaths from Delta plus so far in India occurred among the unvaccinated population. How to interpret this is up to everyone else.
968  Economy / Economics / Re: Founders of South African Bitcoin exchange disappear after $3.6 billion 'hack' on: June 29, 2021, 07:47:05 AM
I believe that is not racist at all. Why? Because British government only cares about money, and money of others, so if you steal money from Greek people and bring it to UK? That is a good thing for UK, if you steal from South Africans and bring it to UK? That is a good thing for UK, if you steal from British and take it somewhere else? That is bad for UK.

So long story short UK do not care if you are a bad person or a good person, they only care about you being fair or not and as long as you are fair that means you are going to be fine. I do not really care if you are African or British, if someone stole 3+ billion dollars worth of money and then came to my nation? I would be thrilled and not look to jail them or send them back, I would make them put that money in one of my nations bank and tell them to live happily ever after, they technically do not own the money itself since it will be in the bank, and they would just slowly spend it and die. That is how nations grow big, you need a lot of people who are super rich.

I completely agree with this post. If the UK doesn't allow them entry, then some other country will offer them residence. There are dozens of small island nations, where these two will be more than welcome. All that matters now is money. If you have money with you, then nothing else really matter. And that is the reason why Mohammed bin Salman of Saudi Arabia is held in high regard by everyone, while Kim Jong Un is derided as a dictator. In reality, both of them are equally evil. But the difference is that Mohammed bin Salman has hundreds of billions of USD worth of funds at his disposal, while Kim Jong Un doesn't have any such luxury.
969  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Fully vaccinated individuals now spared of masks in the casinos in Vegas on: June 29, 2021, 07:31:44 AM
I have a question here. What if the individual falsely claims that he is fully vaccinated? Here in India, we had a few cases where air travelers submitted fake RT-PCR test results to claim that they are COVID negative (although their tests had returned positive results). So is it that difficult to create fake documents to show that the individual is vaccinated? I know that the system in the United States is much better than what we have in India. But still, loopholes will always be there, which will be exploited by criminal minded people.
I think that they have some sort of vaccine passport that is probably authenticated and really hard to fake not to mention that there's probably a big fine or infractions to someone who fakes a government document, I think that it's even probably a federal offense or something so I don't think that people are probably going to take the risk of faking it just to gamble.

Vaccine passports can't be faked. And I don't think that someone will try to fake it, just to gain access to a casino without mask requirement. If caught, he faces a jail term. However, I am not sure whether the individuals will be asked to produce their vaccine passports at the casino. In many cases, it maybe just the SMS message or an online document certifying the inoculation. On such instances, these messages and documents can be faked. But the larger question here is whether the vaccinated people should be allowed not to wear masks or not. And IMO, everyone should wear masks, irrespective of their vaccination status.
970  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: ⚽UEFA EURO 2020 Discussion Thread | Current Phase: Finals in June 2021! on: June 29, 2021, 07:04:23 AM
Round of 16 - Last games

England vs Germany
Two quality teams, but both very unstable. But I believe England have a slight advantage to win the game.

Sweden vs Ukraine
A game that can even have goals from both teams, but the victory should be Ukraine.

The division of teams to various groups didn't made sense this time. For example, three of the strongest teams were placed in Group F (France, Germany and Portugal). Although all three of them managed to get to the next stage, it resulted in PQF matches between Belgium and Portugal, and between England and Germany. On the other hand, they had only one strong team each in Group D, Group C and Group A. Group C was perhaps the easiest of all the groups (Netherlands, Austria, Ukraine, North Macedonia).
971  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: ⚽UEFA EURO 2020 Discussion Thread | Current Phase: Finals in June 2021! on: June 28, 2021, 07:34:38 PM
will we see another surprise today and another elimination of a top favorite? Roll Eyes
the current european champion (portugal) has already been eliminated... now the current world champion (france) is 0-1 down against switzerland Shocked ... but there are still 70 minutes to play

Earlier in the day, Croatia came so close in defeating Spain, but luck favored the latter. I would be overjoyed, if Switzerland manages to overcome France. Switzerland looks really good and both the teams have almost equal possession till now. If Switzerland maintains the lead for the remainder of the first half (12 minutes remaining), then they may manage to put France under a lot of pressure. Well.. it looks as if the French players are already under a lot of stress, as they are making repeated mistakes while passing the ball.
972  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why do ordinary people feel afraid of Bitcoin? on: June 28, 2021, 07:10:58 PM
The major reason why majority of the people is staying away without investing in cryptocurrency is because of the high volatility and that combined the number of scams taking place in the market and the number exchange hacks and most of the time these exchanges cease to exist after the hack leaving its customers dry and with all these risk involved majority will stay away from the market because the risk weighs much higher than the benefits it offers.

Yeah.. recently one of the South African exchanges got hacked and $4 billion worth of coins were stolen. And in the end, it turned out that the coins were stolen by the promoters themselves (Cajee brothers). These sort of incidents really scare ordinary investors. But at the same time, they need to understand that Bitcoin is an asset that can be stored by the individual without the help of any exchange or third party website. At least some of the noobs go for exchange wallets, because they are too lazy to create the wallets themselves. In such cases, they have only themselves to blame.
973  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2021-06-28] Bitcoin Won't Become A Legal Tender In Paraguay: Parliamentarian on: June 28, 2021, 06:56:50 PM
Well.. the chances were low.. given the fact that Paraguay has a national currency (unlike the case with El Salvador, where the national currency has a nominal existence). Replacing the national currency (Guaraní paraguayo) with a digital currency is more difficult when compared to doing it against a foreign currency such as the US Dollar. But I am quite happy that at least some of the politicians took a favorable stand towards the idea. Carlos Rejala will not be the last supporter of Bitcoin in the Paraguayan parliament.
974  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Mircea Popescu died leaving 1 Million BTC behind? on: June 28, 2021, 06:44:30 PM
People dying and sending their BTC to purgatory (to the world of lost BTC) would be expected to be an ongoing issue moving forward: as of recently there are custody services in the US that will handle transfer of crypto to next of kin in the event of death but these services are very new, not available in many countries, and not quite mainstream.

The immediate effect of this is of course that the remaining BTC in the world becomes slightly more valuable as some is lost on an ongoing basis, not just from deaths but also people losing access for other reasons.

When coins are passed to the kin, in most of the cases they may not be interested in the concept of cryptocurrency and the easiest option for them may be to dump all the coins at once. So IMO, it is better for the overall health of cryptocurrency, if these coins are lost. Bitcoin doesn't deserve to be in the hands of people who hates it. And more so, if they end up in their hands as a result of inheritance. BTW, I don't think that Mircea Popescu owned anyway near the amount mentioned here. It is not even possible to accumulate that many coins, given the date when he first entered the cryptocurrency market.
975  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: After 1.5 hours, I only only got 9 confirmations. What a turtle! on: June 28, 2021, 06:32:37 PM
To require 2 or 3 or 6 confirmations at most might be reasonable, but 10 confirmations for bitcoin... that's really unnecessary and doesn't really add any security beyond 5 or 6 confirmations.

Different exchanges have different rules and I don't think that we can blame them for this. For margin traders, such lengthy delays can have an impact on their profit. But for the regular traders, it is manageable. In the past I had used some of the exchanges, which required as many as 60 confirmations for some of the altcoins. But that requirement was for the altcoins and for BTC, the requirement was only 3 confirmations. In the end, each exchange has their own advantages and disadvantages. Users are free to move on to another platform, if they don't like the services.
976  Other / Politics & Society / Re: UK Recording over 10.000 cases on: June 28, 2021, 06:20:49 PM
This exactly why there is no difference anymore between the no vaccinated, partially vaccinated and fully vaccinated people when it comes to travelling in high risk areas. I read this weekend that if you travel to UK, Russia or Portugal that you need to go into isolation for 14 days. That is a bit crazy, because why get the vaccine in the first place then? Also with the upcoming Euro 2020 final in London, this going to be hard.

Vaccine worked well against the original strain, because the mRNA particles were designed based on it. But now the virus is mutating very fast and the vaccine efficacy is going down. Against the original strain, the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines had efficacy of 95%. The same efficacy can be achieved against the mutated strains as well, in case a booster shot is administered to those who are already vaccinated. Irrespective of the strain, the truth is that unvaccinated people have a much higher chance of dying from CoVID compared to those who are at least partially vaccinated.
977  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: ⚽UEFA EURO 2020 Discussion Thread | Current Phase: Finals in June 2021! on: June 28, 2021, 06:09:16 PM
Just now (95th minute) Croatia wasted a golden opportunity to score their 4th goal. Croatia in attacking mode, but I was really disappointed to see them wasting this relatively easy chance. Both the teams are on the offensive with all their might and they don't want a penalty shootout to decide the outcome. If Croatia manages to win this match, then it will be an even greater upset than what we had yesterday (when Czechia destroyed the Netherlands). Defense looks under pressure, for both the teams.
978  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: ⚽UEFA EURO 2020 Discussion Thread | Current Phase: Finals in June 2021! on: June 28, 2021, 05:55:22 PM
And finally it happened, croatia managed to score a 3-3 equalizer and it looks like the match will continue with a penalty Grin Grin

Crazy shit going on.. but I suspected something like this after we had the first upset yesterday (Czechia vs Netherlands). Bad for me, because I refrained myself from placing a bet on Croatia. Spain was unimpressive in their group matches, but I thought that Croatia was also in bad form. 3-3 score after regulation time means that those who made the bets in favor of both Spain and Croatia will lose their money. But even draw was very attractive at around +400. Don't know how many made a bet in favor of that result.
979  Economy / Economics / Re: Trump regrets not banning twitter as he hails Nigerian government for doing so on: June 28, 2021, 04:59:37 PM
While I am not sure that I agree with the banning of Donald Trump by both facebook and twitter, I will say that people should stop bitching about it who dont like it for the simple fact that these are private businesses that can do whatever they want and if you don't like it, then you don't have to be apart of the platform.  I do find it hilarious that Trump said something about this, being that Nigeria already has massive issues when it comes to freedom and equality.  Of course he doesn't mention any of that ( though Trump has been famous for lauding corrupt dictators/presidents).

There is no Republican/Democrat divide in supporting most corrupt dictators. The most powerful dictator in the world right now is Mohammed bin Salman of Saudi Arabia and he enjoys unlimited support from the Democrats. And Twitter never takes any action against any of the dictators from the middle east region, because a large fraction of the company ownership is in the hands of Arabs.

Now coming to the argument that Twitter is a private business and they can ban anyone who they don't like. If they argue like this, then they have to take responsibility for all the tweets made on their platform. That is not the case and Twitter claims that it is just an intermediary. And the issue here is that, an intermediary can't ban people who they don't like.
980  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Test Cricket Prediction and Discussion Thread [self - mod] on: June 28, 2021, 04:19:06 PM
Not 24 test match.

Each team playing 3 home series and 3 away series (6 series) so it would be 18 test match over 2 years if we go by 3 match formula. Team like India, Australia, South Africa already played 15-18 test match in last WTC cycle ( For SA-Aus Some match got cancelled due to covid). So i think 18 match for each team can do the trick and it seems okay thing to ask. Only potential roadblock is high profile series such as Ashes or Border-Gavaskar trophy which do earn fair amount of revenue.

Point is every team should play same amount of test cricket. It doesn't feel right when England playing 20+ test and NZ or other teams are fielding for only 11 tests in one WTC cycle.

I would say that even 18-20 sounds a bit on the higher side. Among the younger generation, you will find very few fans of test cricket. Among people like me, the interest remains high at least when a high profile series like the Ashes or Border-Gavaskar gets going. But if ICC sticks with the least popular format of cricket and allots a large part of the calendar, then eventually it will result in financial loss and a decrease in overall popularity for the sport.
