961  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: January 04, 2017, 11:40:42 PM
...
Never risk the lot, make good profits on high risks with small stakes, or lower risks with bigger stakes.

And don't be greedy, always sell your position 'too early' it's way better than 'too late'.

This is not always true.

If you sold too early and the price was $100

But selling at "too late" is $500 after a crash...

 Smiley

I was paraphrasing the Rothschilds who said they made their money by always selling too early.   Basically it is always 'too early', until it's too late.

I sold a few at 1130, because it was near the old ATH and gold price and I had not cashed ANYTHING in yet.   You might as well divest a little and realise some profit. Let's face it - those of us here a few years have to take some out eventually.

You may be (personally) interested to know that it was actually cashing out some XMR into BTC which I then used an exchange to convert to old-fashioned fiat.

Buys me that new drive I have wanted at home, so I am happy.  I still have plenty of BTC to enjoy selling at much, much higher prices. And if it goes down, I can be happy too.

I am still looking for ways to go direct to spend, but realistically via BTC is still the best way.

Selling too early is a big risk too though. If you sell at $1K then it goes to $10K you'd be spewing, do you buy back in at 2K? or sit out? I think top of first dead cat bounce is quite a nice point to exit
962  Economy / Speculation / Re: Lose all your capital fast, with MatTheCat and his TA 101A! on: January 04, 2017, 11:23:02 PM
The market survived Gox and numerous other exchange hacks/thefts. The market isn't the exchanges. Holding outside an exchange only means looking at longer timescales and being secure.

yeah, but just look at the trading volumes on Finex since the shenanigans and the 'bail ins' there.

Where has it gone?

You think I am alone in representing an example of a person who is 100% through with Bitcoin, for good? Must be tens of thousands of people who have moved their balls of capital out of the Bitcoin sphere once and for all, hence the anaemic cross exchange USD volume. This pump has more to do with China than ever before, and for all we know, 90% of it could just be a computer algorithm churning out numbers.

Well I know how it feels after losing all my bitcoin (at the time) in bitcoinica. If I still had those bitcoin I'd be a lot better off.Yes I've been kicked in the balls but instead of crying about the unfairness I bought more and came up with a secure strategy which is still working for me now. This is bitcoin early days still.
963  Economy / Speculation / Re: Lose all your capital fast, with MatTheCat and his TA 101A! on: January 04, 2017, 10:49:43 PM
Sure Matt, put all your trust/faith in Gold. You know, the stuff that no one will ever know who has what amounts (if any), and as long as naked short sellers can put their boot on through an endless amount of derivatives, will never go anywhere.

On the grander scheme of things, gold is real wealth, and always will be so long as humanity continues to exist in the physical 3 dimensional world in which it has always existed. Gold will still be a highly valued commodity and representation of wealth long after Bitcoin has become a digital museum piece. That is the crucial difference.

Gold, Silver, and Bitcoin  is a well balanced portfolio (for me at least). I think precious metals will one day surprise everyone when the manipulation finally ends and potentially bitcoin problems become apparent. But through holding bitcoin I've managed to increase holding of gold and silver but only because bitcoin keeps growing so much faster (so far)
964  Economy / Speculation / Re: Lose all your capital fast, with MatTheCat and his TA 101A! on: January 04, 2017, 10:41:52 PM
Matt months ago I told you bitcoin is bullish don't fight the trend. You should have listened mate, buy and hodl, so easy when you know how.

edit: and don't hold it on an exchange

If traders can't trust the exchanges, then they can't trust the market.

Where is Bitcoin being pumped up right now?

On the exchanges!

On the Chinese exchanges that is!

USD vol is looking deliriously thin.

You all think you can trust a bunch of Chinese financial cowboys operating beyond the reach of any moral code or written law?

When Bitcoin finally evaporates into dust, taking everyone's notional wealth (denominated in USD of course), I will not be the least bit surprised.

I hope Mat has become millionaire with his bearish stance  Grin

I touted Bitcoin to go to $1500 back in September m8. The call is posted near the same place as I stated that I wouldn't be touching Bitcoin ever again.

Sure, Bitcoin is looking like it will go to $1500. But it is as likely to go to $5000, as it is to implode on the following day.......chinese Bitcoin Cowboy shenanigans aside, all it takes to murder Bitcoin is a word from the PBOC. Meanwhile, there are loads of stocks from established corporations that are performing way better than Bitcoin this past year. If someone is gonna invest, why take the huge systemic risks involved with Bitcoin? It just doesn't make any sense.

The market survived Gox and numerous other exchange hacks/thefts. The market isn't the exchanges. Holding outside an exchange only means looking at longer timescales and being secure.

Great thread thanks for keeping it going Fakhoury

Feasible brother ?

But you know well this is ain't good for Bitcoin, it will scare investors, the tier A we are targeting and it won't even shine as a store of value with such volatility !!

In some ways I think feasible but not exactly as depicted (which was me imagining history repeating 2013), probably or almost certainly on longer timescale and with less volitility than in the chart. But 22K bitcoin at some point in a galaxy quite close to home, why not?
966  Economy / Speculation / Re: Sell my stocks buy bitcoin... on: January 04, 2017, 10:28:10 PM
Although I would caution that buying bitcoin exactly now is risky given that normally on a steep rise a steep correction follows.

Sell stocks. Buy the bitcoin dip
967  Economy / Speculation / Re: Sell my stocks buy bitcoin... on: January 04, 2017, 10:26:24 PM
Reading through old comments on this thread is kind of surreal. Its like a honey pot for agents spreading pro establishment/stocks are good propoganda. Why are people with Cloak avatars so into Stocks Huh Confusing

The answer is yes, sell stocks and buy bitcoin
968  Economy / Speculation / Re: Lose all your capital fast, with MatTheCat and his TA 101A! on: January 04, 2017, 10:13:34 PM
Market buy whatever you can afford NOW. And don't touch it for the next ten years.

... And please tell us when you do so. We will have to sell seconds later.

won't ever buy Bitcoin ever again.......

.....except in small amounts to buy drugs with.

In Bitcoinworld, you can get fleeced within the blink of an eyelid, and there aint nothing you will be able to ever do about it.

969  Economy / Speculation / Re: Top 20 days for Bitcoin on: January 04, 2017, 10:02:41 PM
Very cool. Was thinking it might be nice to have different years have diff color font to help visualisation a little bit.. But anyway interesting way to look at the price. Thanks
970  Economy / Speculation / Re: btc price vs # of kwukduck posts on: January 04, 2017, 09:44:14 PM
Rumor is that kwukduck sold his coins for $10 and has been salty ever since.
It's going to be a loooooong ride to the top. Years. Not too late to jump back in.

guarantee that when btc is 10k, you'll have so many people wishing they
bought now.

Lots of people will be going, I could have had a whole bitcoin if only I'd bought then
971  Economy / Speculation / Re: What would you consider a new ATH? on: January 04, 2017, 09:40:51 PM
Gox was the biggest exchange at the time and the place everyone used as a proxy for bitcoin price so I go with the GOX price (at least for in US$ )

973  Economy / Speculation / Re: is 2017 the new 2013? on: January 02, 2017, 12:44:47 PM
On a log scale you can see the size of two separate 'bubble' moves were similar in terms of percentage gains.

If that is to repeat with only one such move, we will see bitcoin spike to around $10,000

Shocked Shocked Shocked Shocked

974  Economy / Speculation / Re: Nights Watch by Afrikoin on: December 26, 2016, 05:45:49 PM
Is this an inverse head and shoulders spotted on the 1 hour chart

975  Economy / Speculation / Re: Once we hit $1000, how far will BTC drop? on: December 26, 2016, 05:39:33 PM
You all seem certain of this but is $1000 very special?

For example I don't think it will matter to chinese traders very much
976  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin Primed on: December 25, 2016, 06:34:29 PM
As expected / hoped for bitcoin reeached median line of my fork

At that median it looks like resistance has been hit.

On one hour chart, tried to break through but couldn't sustain

I guess we'll have some consolidation at these levels now but for how long. If bitcoin pushes up through that median line, I would say new all time highs beckon shortly after.

977  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin Primed on: December 13, 2016, 10:46:11 AM
Interesting price action on bitstamp, (and I presume other exchanges too) spiking above and then spiking back below the resistance line on my previous chart. Could this be the start of the next leg up over $800 ??

978  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][DASH] Dash (dash.org) | First Self-Funding Self-Governing Crypto Currency on: December 12, 2016, 09:50:50 AM
As of today 1 DASH masternode (1000 DASH) can still be traded 1000 XMR.

Prediction:

After this month, there will never be another chance to exchange 1000 DASH for 1000 XMR. Quote me and laugh all you want. My reasoning is supported by recent GitHub activity of both DASH and XMR.

Now You can buy for 1250 xmr just 1000 DASH Grin

Keep the Dash! You can run a masternode and earn reward or else hold xmr which seems like is going to head down in value
979  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][DASH] Dash (dash.org) | First Self-Funding Self-Governing Crypto Currency on: December 10, 2016, 11:12:14 PM
Just been catching up with this thread which I haven't visited in a while, nice to see Icebreaker is still around which I view as a bullish indicator. And nice to see the thread is still active.

From technicals perspective I'm on the fence at the moment, undecided if dash is bearish or turning bullish again. Dash seems oversold, however against bitcoin there is a big headwind in that bitcoin is looking very strong.

Anyway for me, the dash that I have I will hodl. Looking forward to Evolution,

Go Dash

OP zoom out your chart a bit and you'll see bitcoin has been making higher highs and higher lows for a year now
