1141  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: The madness of gambling addicts. on: May 03, 2023, 01:59:54 AM
it's crucial to approach gambling responsibly and with caution.
Keep in mind that gambling should be viewed as some stuff you do for fun, not a way to avoid responsibilities or even as a source of your bread and butter

Not all gambling addicts saw gambling as a source of income. Some started out as a fun thing too like most of us. It started as something they enjoyed and did in their spare time, especially those with deep pockets. They didn't see it as a source of income or as a way to hit it big.
I believe it's a process. They start cautiously, then start going in deeper and deeper, till they get to a stage where they can't pull themselves out anymore. I guess it's the same way with every other addiction, I may be wrong but till proven otherwise, that's how I see it.
So it's not only people that see gamble as a source of income that should be careful, but even those of us that see it as a fun thing too should be careful lest we fall in too deep.

I get your point and that's reality. Some start gambling to enjoy,

But because they are not ready with the excitement that they've got, they failed to control and they engage too much, most of the time,
without the right control, addictions grow.

After getting engage there are lots of things that you can do without thinking well, things that will add the bad things that you
may do, since you are already engaged and you are already out of control with your gambling addictions.
But there are gamblers that are smart enough in the beginning, they know that there is a chance that they can fall to the category of addicts. And yet, despite people having college degrees and have good education, they still failed to control their emotions and then it's going to be late because they have been addicted already.

So even if we start gambling to enjoy and think that we have  total control of ourselves, majority are going to be addicted. We've seen in before, perhaps even worst by the news that the OP shared, individual lose everything they had in gambling and do things that is beyond belief and it's hard to explain why they do it except that they are addicted and their minds are not that normal.
1142  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: [Warning]: AI voice replicating scams on: May 03, 2023, 01:04:53 AM
This is the first time I hear about this type of voice scam. I wonder how much audio the AI would need to be able to create a fake voice recording?
Still, unless you are an older citizen, this shouldn't be something you should worry about. If someone calls you pretending to be a family member, hang up and call them to verify what's going on. If you are still in doubt, ask them questions only those close to you would know. It can be anything you two have witnessed, lived through, spoken about, etc.
A scammer won't know those answers.

The AI technology has gone too far and evil mind people are using it to scam people. I wonder if one day, these scammers may use deepfake videos to scam people  Sad
We've already seen deepfake videos already, with Elon Musk face and voice. And I read that AI does create a fake CEO face or something to that effect to scam investors of their hard earn money.

Also, when you get a threatening call, these people won't give you a chance to hang up the phone call and confirm things. They just create such a panic that you feel that if you do not react quickly and agree on their demands, you might end up losing the life of your near and dear ones. So these people will demand an instant transfer of money.

Anyways, the only way to be safe from them is to keep your nerves and also those who know about this scam will surely act in a more sensible way.
I agree, we might be overwhelm in the beginning if we received such calls, but we should confirmed everything first and talk to the people around us to calm things and then see if this is real or not. Otherwise, if we react with our instincts, we might give in to this scammers and then send our money in a haste or even might fall for the crypto thing as well.
1143  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Questions of the day for gamblers on: May 03, 2023, 12:46:18 AM
If a online casino claims to be a decentralized platform does this mean that their games are fully decentralized too?

Perhaps what you meant is provably fair? there's no such thing as decentralized games in my opinion. Slots as you put a example, can be set by the casinos themselves or even the operator of the machine.

Do you guys know that some casinos regulates their own slots machines themselves, can you gamble with ease of mind on such casinos?
I'm aware of that, so I guess it depends on what platform you are playing. Because there are casino's that we "trust" here.

If slots games is all you are good at, are you really good at it or you are just lucky? Can you use the word 'good at it' with slots game?
Slots are luck based games, you can't used 'good at it' because there is no skills involved.

What is the most convenient games you play on gambling platforms?
Sports betting, at least you have better chances based on your analysis.

Is using leverage about luck or skills? Or even a rigged game?
Depends on which game you are going to play.
1144  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 2023 NBA Season on: May 03, 2023, 12:17:16 AM
^^ Sooner or later there will be blaming games and pointing finger as to what cause Memphis that series against the Lakers. Obviously, two of them, Ja Morant's interview, "I'm fine in the West" comment and then Brooks disrespecting Lebron and "poking the bear" and until someone drops 40 on him. Yeah, the last game of the series, the Lakers won by 40 point lead, and Brooks performance in that series was garbage.

And with that, perhaps management said that they have enough of this clown, and as Draymond said, "The dynasty starts after you, not with you”. So good riddance for Brooks, and let's see if a team is going to pick him up, or going to Shanghai Sharks,  Grin
1145  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why can't regular flash drives store Bitcoin on: May 01, 2023, 08:55:36 PM
In most part of Africa hardware wallets are not only difficult but expensive to get apart form using custodian wallets like trust wallet and metamask is there an alternative software that can help hodl Bitcoin in a flash drive. or otherwise
Well you can created a bootable OS on a flash drives, like Linux or Windows.

You can verify the IOS version of trust wallet here: https://github.com/TrustWallet/trust-wallet-ios. But as far as I know it's not fully open source so just be careful on using it.

And we all know that storing private keys in plaint text specially in flash drives is not a save security practices in my opinion.
1146  Economy / Speculation / Re: BTC Sentiment Poll for May on: May 01, 2023, 02:03:26 PM
Why creating similar thread again after we have started one: Month of May. Bitcoin price guess. Join discussion on the thread instead.

Next time, you do not even need to use search engine, just scroll down the speculation board to know if anyone has posted such a topic before thinking of creating one. Today is the first day of new month, you will see it among the topics that has been created on the first of new month and likely would be at the top of the page one on speculative board.
No offense but it seems that @tokeweed has been creating his own thread every x month and trying to get the sentiments of the members here.

For me I voted for bullish though, although we might have a minor correction in the last 24 hours. And could be trading sideways at the start of this week. Nevertheless, investors now are bullish just like the first 4 months and maybe we can break that $30k price again and then maintain it this May. It's good to see this kind of correction this early so that many can get in and fill their bags. So hopefully, we can reclaim $29k-$30k again.
1147  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: NBA 2020-2021 betting on: May 01, 2023, 12:35:57 PM
The stake odds for this game are 1.52 for the Knicks and 2.60 for the Heat, Right now Quentin Grimes and Julius Randle are doubtful if they can play for the Knicks and Julius Randle is out for the season, while Tyler Herro, can not play for the Heat, Bam Adebayo is doubtful and Victor Oladipo is now out for this season, for this game I think I can see that the Knicks is the favorite to win but Jimmy Butler is a different monster while pressured, for this game the truth is I really don't know who to choose, that is why I have gone to the best option going with the favorite, the New York Knicks,
Knicks is good and all but I believe that Heat will win again if Jimmy Butler ends up playing as well as he has so far. This is why I believe that we could see anything happen. Overall, Knicks is a better team for sure, I mean when you look at 5 positions, I would give 4 of them to Knicks, aside from Jimmy Butler who has played differently during this playoff period. After all it is going to be a tough one without a doubt.

The early games are a bit different as well, it is not the same thing at all, the regular times for them is a lot better for them. All in all I think the best thing to do for today is to stay away, we can see the games of each series and then we can make a decision based on that, doesn't make sense to take risks and put the first games as bets, just lets see how it will be.

Think the rest of the series leans in on can julius randle play effectively with his ankle issue and now that Jimmy rolled his ankle.  Can he play as effective.  If both can't I give the advantage to the Knicks.  Jimmy is that team.  Either way it's gonna be a good series.

As far as today's game I got the Champs and the moneyline.  I can't bet against steph even though the odds are stacked against them.
Good for you as Steph lead his Warriors to another road win in their series against the Kings.

I guess Randle is still the main guy for the Knicks, as we can see, his absence is really felt in game 1. They don't have inside presence, although Toppin try to be that guy that will replace Randle, it's not enough to get and they lose the homecourt advantage. Miami Heat is really looking dangerous again in this series.

Not sure about the Lakers going full game 7 series against the Warriors, prediction is 6 GSW all the way.
1148  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: [Boxing] Devin Haney vs Vasiliy Lomachenco - May 20 on: May 01, 2023, 12:05:12 PM
The odd for Lomachenko is nice, 3.05x on Stake!
I don't think it's a one-sided fight that deserves such odd btw, so I'm with Loma Grin
He still can win this even though he's getting old. IIRC De La Hoya was retired by Pacman at 35, but fitness-wise, Loma is in much better shape.
If Loma can be at 100%, I think he'll beat Haney with no problem. Loma is weak versus powerful fighter because he is small, but he will be fine versus a technical boxer.
Hard to compare though Pacman vs Dela Hoya, Oscar un-retired and fought Pacman at a catchweight of 145 lbs. Oscar hasn't fought at that weight for many years and so he likes a zombie against Manny in the ring. And so it was a mismatch on the part of Pacman as he dominated a old and slow Oscar that really put his name on top of the boxing world.

But this version of Loma, even at 35 years old can still pull the trigger. Yeah, I know based on his last performance, he seems to be out of shape but there could be reasons there. But in this fight, he might just flip the bulb and be the old Loma himself against a young and very talented fighter in Devin Haney. So yeah, the odds might not do justice and for those who loves the underdog, this is their chance with that 3.05x or even higher at some crypto based casinos.
1149  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 2023 NBA Season on: May 01, 2023, 11:26:54 AM
I may have bet for the Kings but that Performance of Chef Curry is really something and should get into the history books I am watching right now Kendrick Perkins the once unbeliever that Stephen Curry can do it, was left with amazement with this game,
Yeah, I found his tweet earlier.
Perks is a certified hater of Steph, lol, but yes, it's good that everyone in the league recognized what Steph did in game 7. Never before that a 35 year old player scored 50 points in a game 7, so he did break Kevin Durant's record.

It's a record for a game 7 performance and a series number of points for a 35-year-old above player.
Kevon Looney shined the most in this game after Steph. Those important offensive rebounds that he took from the Sacramento Kings are also what made the Warriors win this game. If there's a beam that should be lighted, it will be for him. The second chance points of the Warriors have increased thanks to his effort in trying to get another shot for the team. 10 offensive rebounds and 11 defensive rebounds. He almost made more on the former than the latter which is unusual.
Crazy Looney.
And as per Klay, Looney becoming Wilt Chamberlain in this series. And if I'm not mistaken, he also established record here with that monster performance and the last time we've seen someone doing a 20+ rebounds in a series could be either a prime Dwight Howard with the Magic or Shaq with Lakers.

And checking the records:

Quote
Who had the most total rebounds in the 2022-23 Regular Season?

Playing for the Sacramento Kings, Domantas Sabonis led the NBA with a total of 973 rebounds in 79 games.

https://www.landofbasketball.com/year_by_year_stats/2022_2023_leaders_rebounds_tot_rs.htm

So Looney breaking down the rebounding leader this season in this series, that really hurts.
1150  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 2023 NBA Season on: April 29, 2023, 07:54:42 AM
This Lakers vs Grizzlies game was over by halftime. The Grizzlies have given up and I don’t think any of the Lakers stars will even play in the fourth quarter. A dominant showing for the Lakers as they prove they underperformed in the regular season and are going to be a problem in the playoffs. Now we wait to see if they’re going to be playing the Warriors or the Kings next.
Early garbage time. I didn't hit the over 218, thanks to that.  Cheesy
Anthony Davis is scary when he is on focus. In 1st quarter he is already putting in a lot of defensive stops to give the Lakers an early lead that was kept until the final minute of the regulation.
I like what he did, he just used his height advantage to take rebounds, defend the rim, or catch an alley-oop. He didn't post up too much and was able to save time and follow the fast pace of the game.
With DLo catching fire, their offense is covered and Lebron had been accurate with his shots too. 9/13 field goals in 31 minutes, that's one heck of a high-percentage shooting performance.

The Lakers will advance, they will wait on who will win in Sacramento at Game 7. The only game 7 we have on all the 1st round games.
Yes, it was really Davis who is very instrumental in the game, his blocks, and his hustle play as well (like chasing the ball outside and then encouraging the crowd). D'Lo and Austin Reaves again delivering the goods as well. Nice to see Mo during the garbage time, he looks like to me.

On the other hand, James leaving the floor early, sign that he doesn't respect Memphis or at least Brooks and not going to shake his hands in this huge win. Now, I hope that Brooks will learn his lessons here, do not poke the bear.

So now waiting for the winner of the Warriors and Sacramento Kings. Either teams though will be be a good matchup for Lebron.
1151  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: [Boxing] Tank Davis vs. Ryan Garcia betting and discussion (May, 2023) on: April 28, 2023, 09:44:16 AM
^^ I don't know if that is a good idea for Ryan to choose another trainer/coach. Just look at Anthony Joshua, when he suffered his first lost and then change trainers or it went downfall for him. Back to back losses to Usyk and now if he wants to comeback, he will have a new trainer in his corner. So doesn't make sense as it is the fighter who will be on the ring and it's just the trainer who tries to bring out the best of the boxers. So for me, stick with Goosen, it's just Tank is the better fighter that's it. No amount of strategy can prepare Ryan for that fight and overcome and pull an upset.
1152  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: How do you stay updated on: April 28, 2023, 09:04:38 AM
With the number of social media apps we have, it's not hard to find the answer you're looking for, dude. even if you just type questions in Google search, it will give you many options for sure.

You are the only one who buys which location you want to be updated, so this is no longer a problem dude if you just want to be updated on UFC fighting.
Yeah, this is the obvious for us, used the Big G to look for fights or the sports that you want to follow. And the good thing is that this community is not short of many bettors and gamblers and we have a lot of threads on Boxing and UFC in general.

One thing though, you really need to be on top of the sports or at least have been following it for years. If you are, then it's going to be easy for you to look for updates and where to look at. You can maximized all social media related to that sports to find news and what's the latest about the boxers and fighters. Expand your horizons and for sure you will be one of those 'experts' in analyzing the game in the future.
1153  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 2023 NBA Season on: April 28, 2023, 08:44:48 AM
^ Giannis was pretty salty in the post game interview. I can’t remember seeing him like that before. His usually sunny disposition turned into personally insulting reporters pretty quickly. Seems like he’s starting to get tired of being on a bad team.

Not even watching basketball tonight. The Celtics and Hawks doesn’t excite me. I’m hoping the Celtics finish off that series so we can get a better matchup.
It's understandable where Giannis is coming from, I mean they are the top seed and had the best record. And then they face number 8 Heat who needed to win in the play-in to advance. Then unfortunate things happen as Giannis was injured in the first game and that's it. After that it was a difference series and it seems that Miami is the number 1 in the East with how they play and make a huge comeback in the last 2 games to clinch and advance to the next year.

So after 82 grueling games for the Bucks and Giannis and getting on top, suddenly they are out. All that hard work, sweat, blood and tears are now going into drain. So yeah, pretty much we can see the emotions during the post game interview.
1154  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: I have some questions left about this mysterious passphrase on: April 27, 2023, 02:05:29 PM
Hello,

I've read a lot about the passphrase. I think I understood globally that from the seed, you can create different wallets. If you add a passphrase, it becomes a new wallet.

My first question is: if I have a wallet and I have the possibility to add a passphrase, do I create a new wallet or is it the same wallet with a passphrase added? (I don't know if this is too clear, probably because this step is not too clear in my mind either).
You will have a new wallet if you extend or add a passphrase, hence, the passphrase is called "Salt".

Second question: if you have a wallet to do DCA and leave it to your kids, is it better to add a passphrase or not?

Thank you.
For me private keys, mnemonic phrase whether 12 or 24 seeds are already enough. And as far as I know, Electrum for example provides 132 bits of entropy. Perhaps the best method is to create a multi-sig wallet for you and for your kids or even your wife.
1155  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: The psychology of betting..... on: April 27, 2023, 12:16:51 PM
Have you pressed the "bet" button, before the reels have stopped.. thinking that it will give you a favorable outcome on your bet? Well, I have news for you... the outcome has been decided in milliseconds after you pressed the button for the bet, the GUI interface happens long after that to display the outcome of the bet to you.  Grin (Go into the developer mode of your browser to see this)
Yeah, it could be pattern, or what we call superstitious belief. Sometimes I will count the reel, how much spins before I will win and how many spins is my lost. And then the next time,  I will used that pattern to maybe increased my bet the next time so that if the pattern continues then I might win big. However, I found out that it's no pattern after all. It could be just coincidence, or just my luck playing with me and my emotions.

What patterns do you see and how much do you believe in it?
So in my years of playing slots, I will say that there is no patterns, it is just ourselves trying to find and making that excuses that we are going to win big the next spin because we found a pattern.
1156  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: [Boxing] Stephen Fulton vs. Naoya Inoue | WBC & WBO 122 lbs bout | July 25 on: April 27, 2023, 11:05:27 AM
Not sure what you mean by sophisticated cameras because replays are not yet applicable in boxing. And I'm just laying that all the possibilities here. Nevertheless, I would agree that Japanese have the discipline and honestly, but there could be one judges that can ruined it here.

Anyway, the fight is still on this June, it will give ample time for Fulton to train harder. And he should be getting to Japan as early as he can so that he will adjust easily.
It does come down to that point sometimes and that is why I like TKO wins only. I don't want the fight to be concluded in the hands of the judges because sometimes it's not what we are expecting. I like scoring the fight too and most of the time 2 of the judges have the near scorecard as mine but one judge always goes in a different path. Sometimes I don't understand what they see that we don't or what the other 2 judges saw that the 1 judge didn't.
That's when questions will come out and on the recent UD fights that I saw it became the usual thing.
Maybe the other judge is not watching the fight,  Smiley. Or they are just really biased on the other fighter. So whatever the fight goes and what really happens in the right, he will still going to favor the other boxer he prefers. And this is how corrupt boxing judges are, they could be in the pocket of some of this big promoters and organizations.

Japanese are truly disciplined people but there will always be the heart of a bias. But, I do believe it won't be Japanese people who will be sitting there to give points. They don't do that unless this is just an exhibition match like what happened in Korea with the Pacquiao versus DK Yoo fight. The undercards were mostly won by South Koreans even though it's too obvious other countries won it.
True, we can't discount the fact that it's going to be in Japan so there could be biased. So the best thing for Fulton is not let the fight goes to the judges because maybe they will favor their local hero in Inoue. And to be fair with Japan, yeah other countries like South Korea is worst when it's comes to biased scoring. Specially during the Olympics way back when Roy Jones didn't win the gold but it was obvious that he is winning.
1157  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 2023 NBA Season on: April 27, 2023, 09:20:55 AM

Golden State Warriors! What a wild game! Draymond Green with 21 points, his last 20-point game was on December 25, 2019, against the Rockets.
He sure contributed a lot today and gave energy to the team. Steph Curry put the dagger to send it back to San Francisco with a lead on the series.
3-2.

Knicks vs Heat on the 2nd round.
Yes, it seems that Draymond wanted to make a statement in Sacramento, there are moments wherein the will turn into the crowd whenever he scores. How about their other machine, Kevon Looney with another big rebounds 22, which really give the Warriors lots of second chance points. And then Klay Thompson started hot, it's not yet game 6 Klay,  Grin.

Big shots too by Wiggins with that fall away with 2 minutes to go to extend their lead. And everyone that Steve Kerr fielded in this game score as least 2 points for his team. So overall good effort by the defending champions. Now they will have a chance to eliminate the Kings in their home court.
1158  Economy / Speculation / Re: Thinking about what caused the flash crash? on: April 27, 2023, 12:52:51 AM
It seemed to me like it was just traders trying to get ahead of the MtGox situation. Whatever it was, it seems like that volume was swallowed up by buyers as it has nearly recovered all the way back to $30K. That shows there is still a ton of demand for Bitcoin at these levels so I wouldn’t call an end to this rally just yet.
And checking the price right now? it bounce back beautifully to $29k and I wouldn't be surprised that we might see $20k at the end of the month. Maybe there is some entities who likely wants to manipulate the price to crash and then there are traders who just fall for it and push the sell button, hence the nosedived to $28k.

So overnight, it's going back and forth, and as you have said, the demands are still there, very high despite the market acting weird in the last 24 hours.

And it's interesting to follow this news:

Quote
First Republic Bank's (FRC.N) market value plunged again on Wednesday as investors waited to see if it would be able to find buyers for assets and engineer a turnaround without government support.

In a brutal sell-off, the bank's market capitalization briefly sank as much as 41% to about $888 million and the first time under $1 billion, a far cry from its peak of more than $40 billion in November 2021. It closed around $1.1 billion.

https://www.reuters.com/business/finance/first-republic-bank-shares-plummet-day-after-hitting-record-low-2023-04-26/

It's interesting because of bitcoin's narrative, and we might see more investors putting their money on the market because of the continuing banking crisis.
1159  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Surprise back!!!! on: April 26, 2023, 10:55:15 AM
His rocket just crashed, so meme lovers can expect him to be back to hype and making money with dogecoin soon. I bet so far, Elon Musk doesn't have an easy explanation for the behavior he did with Dogecoin before, maybe now market participants are paying attention to other issues so it doesn't matter. cares a lot about Dogecoin, but for me it will have a repetition with a new trick.
it is a loss for him of course but Elon that has billions of dollars? that is not totally a big loss for him but of course he will act again to bag money
and His milk and butter for that is cryptocurrency market.
as he is still popular and everything he posts seems to be having value.
but I will not fall from his traps again lol.
Elon Musk has a huge amount of supporters which is enough to manipulate the market trend and make Doge pump like before. Though some people had already opened their minds and avoided his trap, you couldn't still think that no one will fall into his words/actions because there are a lot of innocent investors who are stilling believing him. And what we have witnessed in the past few days is still showing his influence and he uses the twitter platform to play tricks and win.
Perhaps, but the way I look at it, those supporters really know what they are doing, so they just ride on the popularity and influence of Elon Musk. And when the price is going to spike then they will simply get out and take the profits and rinse and repeat. The one that is going to be trapped here is those newbies who thought that it's ok when join the hype when the price is on top. It's going to be a hard and expensive lessons for them. But hopefully they will learn a thing or to on why Musk should not be trusted specially on how he manipulated Doge to his advantage.

1160  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin could hit $100,000 by the end of 2024 - Standard Chartered - Surprised? on: April 26, 2023, 10:08:20 AM
I think everyone is on the same boat as far as bitcoin hitting that 6 digits in the future. We do failed that prediction though in 2021, when everyone thought that $100k will be the big price because some bitcoin price modelling made famous by someone.

Nevertheless, I will say  that it is more doable in the next bull run than the previous. We've seen $69k as our last all time high. So the expectation is that we will surpassed in in 2024-2025 with a conservative estimates of $100k. So it's just a matter of time for us. And we should all be prepared and ready and stack sats already.
