1741  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Making server PSUs quieter on: December 30, 2016, 05:05:16 PM
Ambient temp is 19-20c which isn't a problem. This is all to do with saving some money on the PSU side of things. The EVGA ive currently got is great but if I can sell it (or get a refund) and get the same performance and more power from the HP then why not.

Im hopefully heading over to pick up a couple of the HP PSU's tomorrow. Ill take one apart and see what goes on inside and whether what im planning to do is even feasible. If its not then I can sell the PSU's on here or ebay and be no worse off.

So can anyone tell me if the fan speed is load based or temp based as I cannot find a datasheet on this model of HP PSU anywhere.
1742  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Making server PSUs quieter on: December 30, 2016, 03:05:54 PM
Pretty much any PSU worth anything grounds the case. It's a safety feature.

When you say "independent 12v Temp controlled PWM fan", please clarify what is "independent". I don't know if the PSU has protection mechanisms where it won't stay lit up without detecting a spinning fan, but the built-in fan is PWM temp-controlled and runs off 12V so I'd just plug the new external fan into its port and see if that's good enough.

I was going to get a cheap 12v pwm fan controller that has a temp probe and place that inside the psu so the larger quieter fan I put on ramps up and down as necessary. I had an idea that the existing fan would be controlled via pwm signals but wouldn't it need to register silly rpm for the psu to function as intended? As the larger fan will obviously spin slower so would there be a conflict with what the psu "sees" and shut it down if it doesn't reach the target rpm?

I'm assume the existing fan is load related rather than temp related aswell.

Firstly, why? Smiley Seems like you are chasing your own tail trying to home mine quietly these days.

Secondly, the only way I can see it working with the larger slower fans providing enough airflow is to use some sort of reducing cowl.

Working it out I can get a hp dps1200 for £30 plus breakout board etc at another £40ish it's a £100 saving compared to the 1000w platinum psu I've got and more powerful. Plus it gives me something to do other than work-sleep-repeat.

Are server psus ok to handle while they are on as I've read that they ground to the case.

Hi everyone,

Firstly mods if this is the wrong section please move to an appropriate one. Thanks.

I'm looking at switching out an ATX psu for a server psu (HP DPS1200FB-1) but need to make it as quiet as possible as I'm a home miner.

I need to know what kind of behaviour to expect if I were to remove the small jet engine from the front and replace it with via an independent 12v Temp controlled PWM fan mounted on top (with hole cut in the plate).

Has anyone managed to do anything similar?

P.S. I know finally and jabberwock do psus with fans but they run and full speed and they are for a beast of a psu which I just don't need.

Hello,

What do I do when I have a pending payment not sent to me? all other payments are all paid but 1.

Please advise. thank you.

Would it be the most recent one by any chance?

no sir.. Its block 445052. Where do I report? thanks.

Kano is the man to ask. I can confirm I received my payment for that block on the 26th December, just as a bit of added info.
1746  Economy / Computer hardware / Re: Okay selling a FSP aurum plat psu for a small build (450 watt) name your price on: December 30, 2016, 10:10:32 AM

Movie was good.  Nice new movie theater.  Red leather seats that are push button full lounger style.

The Kvm I am moving my gear around in the garage

I got the new 8 port which is working nicely

I can retire the 2 x 4 port I need to figure price.

I will check on the seasonics in a minute.

I may be able to put the two into a USPS  flat rate box  for UK
ss-400fl x-400 fanless

medium flat rate is 67 large flat rate is 86 to uk

If I fit the two in the medium and charge you 80 it is a pretty good deal

used to be so much cheaper to ship to uk before all the terror acts

Thanks for getting back to me Philip. I'll have to give it a kiss though I'm afraid. Can't find a set of cables anywhere this end. All I can find it custom braided ones which after buying just the ones I need will make it more costly than a new platinum one.

As I've said to you before. Its the fact you're asking for a reversible payment method. You can do a thousand posts asking for varying amounts but if they are all paypal or other reversible payment method then the chances are no one will deal with you.

Lets put this simply. Don't cloud mine. From what ive read contracts rarely stay profitable for long given the current difficulty hikes.
1750  Economy / Currency exchange / Re: Have 20$ Paypal Need BTC on: December 29, 2016, 09:11:12 PM
Why is it you need such small amounts so often? Its strange behaviour to be on here so frequently asking for trades.
1751  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: NiceHash Sell Mining Power on: December 29, 2016, 09:05:26 PM
So... ive read what you've written and it makes no sense? What are you asking? If selling hash to Nicehash is profitable?

It all depends on your electricity cost and how much you pay for the miner. No miner off the shelf does 15Th anyway, so I think you better do so reading and educate yourself before you buy something and overclock it and burn it out.

1752  Economy / Computer hardware / Re: IBM 2880W PSU/Breakout Boards - *NEW* Package deals for S9 - S7 & A7 on: December 29, 2016, 08:33:11 PM
This might be a stupid question. It how quiet are these? I'm looking for a cheaper alternative to atx psus for my home mine. Trouble is it's currently located under my desk.

Not a stupid question at all.  The answer:  Stupid loud  Undecided

I do not suggest using this for an under-desk PSU.  It is on the edge of being unfeasible for use even in a basement/garage depending on your tolerance.  If you need that much power, you could go with the DPS-4K (another PSU board/packages I sell in my sig), it can be made as quiet as you like by choosing the 120mm fans for cooling. However if you are just replacing a ~1000W ATX PSU, you would be better suited with something like a DPS-1200 with breakout board.

Funnily enough I forgot I posted on this thread and ive posted on your other one asking something along the same lines as you've suggested  Cheesy
1753  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: How to avoid VAT when buying inside EU ? on: December 29, 2016, 08:31:20 PM
Living in the UK everything I buy from overseas gets stung with duty, vat and carrier charges for sorting the paperwork. The only way ive found to limit the "hit" I take on buying gear is to get it from another member on here and ask them to declare it at a lower value. The risk is big if it gets lost or damaged as the agreement is that I still pay them anyway. But thankfully ive been lucky and no gear has been damaged in transit. Hopefully ill still be lucky
1754  Economy / Computer hardware / Re: IBM DPS-4KW PSU (Dual DPS-2000BB) Breakout Boards and Packages!!! on: December 29, 2016, 08:15:41 PM
Please excuse me hijacking your thread to ask a question but it does relate to your breakout board and fan sideplate combo.

Im a home miner and sound is a major factor for my mining equipment so the side fans are a great alternative to the whine/howl of the small fans on server psus. Are they temperature controlled or just permenantly 12v full speed fans?

Also are there any small capacity psus that would fit the dual breakout board and fan setup? I don't need a 4kw solution as I cant use that much electricity. Is there a dual 1Kw version, or can you recommend suitable psus that would fit (ideally platinum efficienty rating)?

I'm in the UK if that makes any difference.

Thanks.

How strange....I was just looking at a seasonic 460w fanless platinum psu on ebay (I know youre are gold), sold for more than a new evga 650w plat which was odd.

When you've rested and soaked up the onslaught of the jedi and empire could you let me know what the model numbers are so I can try ad locate cables and also how much you want for one shipped to the UK please?
1756  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Antminer S9 on: December 29, 2016, 02:18:49 PM
There was info somewhere that next S9 batch will be out soon.

I have searched the forum an cab not find it ? There is no 'pre-orders' on Bitmain ?

Weird ?

They haven't had pre-orders for a while. They announce new batches in the S9 thread the day before they go on sale. They always sell out within an hour aswell.

I have been looking for that thread ? Do you know what section it is in ??

Thanks

It's in this section "Hardware" and funnily enough it's inbetween this thread and the one you started. It's title is "Bitmain released Antminer S9"

As already said. You stand no chance of finding a reputable trader to deal with for this transaction. The only attention you will get is scammers.
