Even in the event that an attacker gains more than 50% of the network's computational power, only transactions sent by the attacker could be reversed or double-spent. The network would not be destroyed.

You all realize that except for some people winning the batch 1 and 2 Avalon lottery, ASIC prices have basically equalized on a per GH basis and are close to GPU prices per GH anyways so other then power consumption it's all the same.  I think when you see BFL prices approach those same levels is when shipping will be on a mass scale.  Nobody is going to sell you gear 20x less then what it's worth on open market.  They doubled prices already so that's a promising step.

I have been reading and following the BFL saga all I can say is honestly can't even bother until they ship in mass.
Which in my view will be close to almost impossible with all the problems according to they're updates recently...
Bless all the people who have pre-ordered and still being so patient

I have purchased 2 butterfly lab ASICs. I purchased the first one a while ago and the second one more recently (which i feel is more of a mistake now). I still have faith they will deliver their units though as i read they had their ASICs linked to an android tablet mining at a bitcoin conference in the US for everyone to see. They have a few videos on youtube showing their concepts and I hear they have been waiting for their boards to arrive (supposedly).

I'm keeping my faith, although it does seem there are A LOT of speculation they are just running a long term scam. I can understand if they don't want to ship out all their mining rigs at once in fear of watering down the price of btc (and i guess it makes sense they're shipping out the low end 5GH/s models first then moving onto the higher end ones). Incredibly frustrating but patience is a virtue.

Really hope these do come to fruition!  Huh

Yes, to gain trust in the community that/where they have failed miserably. Sad.

The scam goes into the next round: Now they start selling their chips. In 100 days (plus "two weeks" © Josh Zerlan / Inaba).

Video's can be faked.  Hell, CGMiner is an open-source code, they could have just compiled a custom version that shows "Something" mining at the spec'd speeds.

I have not seen anyone say this and maybe its just me being stupid and I will accept that however whats to say that the android could be showing information from other units mining off grounds and having it just report on the tablet.

I can have my rig mining in the garage and have my tablet show I'm mining....

This was my first thought when I saw the video from the convention. If I had been there I would have asked if I could unplug the ASIC for a minute to see if it was really the one connected/hashing at the specified rate. Would be an easy test.

Would have been awesome if someone asked if he could bfgminer with it, since he is waiting for his own and wants everything ready. Any good company would have said: Here is your usb cable, you have 45 seconds.

BFL Scam ? no. its just not as a lucrative business option as they promised on pre-order launch. Every customer will recieve their units, but on arrival will be earning the same as GPU'ers are now.

Maybe, who knows...... we'll see.

I haven't given up hope... but I also don't have the investment in hardware that others do. I purchased a 4.5GH/s miner (Think it was a Jalapeno, could be wrong) back in March, and it is supposed to be shipped in June... but I'm past the point of really caring, so honestly if it shows up by Christmas, I'll be happy.

Ya gotta hope it isn't total BS but there sure are a lot of indicators pointing the wrong way. I bought a mini in March. I see they shipped 3 days worth of Jale's (still in process) so I figure I will have mine by the time 30gh/s is outdated.
