''Two-time champion Naomi Osaka has withdrawn from this year's Australian Open just eight days before the start of the tournament.''
''Osaka, a winner in Melbourne in 2019 and 2021, has not played on the WTA Tour since September and has slipped to 42 in the world rankings.''
''No reason was given for the 25-year-old Japanese player's withdrawal.''

Source: https://www.bbc.com/sport/tennis/64201877

I really like Osaka as a tennis player and I was really hoping that she would finally return to top level tennis and that we would see her in Australia.
Unfortunately, it seems that she can't overcome her mental problems and is further away from returning to the top of world tennis.
It's a shame because it's really a big loss for world tennis to lose such a great tennis champion.
Do you think there is still hope for Osaka to return to tennis?
Serena also ended her great tennis career and now women's tennis has become less interesting to watch for me, I believe others too.

I believe she will come back, the reason is not stated in the article and my guess is still about her mental health which has always been an issue for her, it's very unfortuntaed that her young age has to stop because she has so many chances to win the title.
I don't consider the women's section to be less interesting but instead it is the most awaited thing for me because who will be the champion will not be easy to predict, but for bettors it is indeed unattractive because it is difficult to predict the results of every game.

Great job by Djokovic that he managed to win this match against Costa in the final. Surprising name for an American. Costa even got a match point in the 2nd set. However, experience was the deciding factor. I heard Djokovic hasn't lost a game on Australian soil for 3 years. That is a good perspective for his participation in the Australian open. Based on this data, we can conclude that Djokovic is certainly the best player on this surface at the moment. Alcaraz does not participate in the Australian open unfortunately. If you had to bet on something I would go for Djokovic, but there are more hijackers on the coast.

cannot see anyone that can win AO over Djokovic at the moment
he is looking stronger now, than 2 years ago when he won last title there

or competition is looking weaker, there is no single player that can withheld 5 setter with Djokovic, and he is playing just what is needed to win so far, have enough reserve to push a lot more

easy money for outrights?

I did not see Alcaraz play recently but he can win against Djoković for sure. He can run as much as Djoković and has even more fire power. Djoković has only experience on his side. Alcaraz wants to finish the exchange with winner every time and he will understand with time that all that matters is that he wins the point. it is equally good if you force the mistake from opponent.

Djoković is mentally the best player on tour but I am thinking Alcaraz can already post a challenge to that as well. It just shows in his results, last season Alacaraz won 5 major tournaments and none of the smaller ones. That shows mental capacity to be best when it is needed the most.

Djokovic has quite a couple of things going for him against Alcatraz besides experience I would say Wink

Djokovic's mental strength is probably the best we have ever seen in tennis when he was at his absolute best. He does indeed have bad days though. It doesn't happen often obviously, but it is not as if he was invincible. Alcaraz is struggling mentally at times. Yes I know he is still very young, but when it comes to the discussion whether Djokovic still has an edge over Alcatraz besides just being more experienced, I would say yes, Djokovic in my opinion is still the strongest return player on the tour. It is not only about bringing the ball back, but how he brings it back. He turns an attack of an opponent into his own deadly weapon like nobody else.

Well he is 1.47 ATM in the tie break if the first set. this IMO is a fantastic price on someone
like Djokovic. Losing the first set is not detrimental at all.

He is gone out to 1.7 now after losing that tie break. This is a big opportunity to bet on Djokovic
winning the next two sets.

He really wants/needs to win this tournament to set the stage for this season to take back
that #1 spot.
and he did win the match, he even defended a match point in the 2nd set, too bad i was asleep and i didn't see the match, for me Djokovic to win is a no brainer especially after losing a set with odds as high as 1.7, he really did want that title to start off pretty strong.

After Korda won the first game in the second set Djokovic' odds went to 1.85 but I
already had my bet in! With that win Djokovic is now level with Nadal in 4th spot of
ATP titles with 92 titles. Both Rafa and Novak are very well matched so far in terms of
ATP titles and Grand Slam titles, it will be interesting to see how the year progresses
for both players.

I would say your table still shows how incredible the achievements by Jimmy Connors and Roger Federer actually were. It looks as if Djokovic and Nadal are very close to the top, but winning more than 10 titles is still quite a long way to go when you take into account how old both of them are. One injury could end the journey from either of the two players or even both in a worst case scenario. Just looking at how strong Djokovic still is, I would say he has a good chance to make it, but a lot of things can get in the way still. Just think about how the Corona Virus put a stop to Djokovic's strong performance streak.

Djokovic will certainly make an attempt to break the record. But the years are also starting to count for him and you can't play 20 tournaments a year. The competition is also big. In the days when Connors won all the tournaments, the tournament was much lower. Many people see Federer as the best player of all time, but Connors holds the record firmly. I don't know who the best female player of all time was. In the 90s that was undoubtedly the German Steffi grave. In the men's tennis in the 90s, the Americans Sampras and Agassi dominated. But I don't see it in the list either. I expect that Jack Sinner will also win the necessary tournaments. That is one of the most promising talents out there right now.

Yes, might be hard to chase that record, but for sure, as long as Djokovic is playing and it seems that he will have least a 1-2 years of his prime years ahead of him. He will be pushed by a lot of young players in the tour right now, but you can see that he holds himself very well with them. Sinner is just one, we have Alcaraz, unfortunately he is injured if I'm not mistaken.

Martina Navratilova, Chris Evert-Lloyd, Steffi Graf, Monica Seles, Martina Hingis and of course Serena Williams are the names that pop up in my mind as far as the ladies goes or at least the female tennis players that I was able to watch.

For now it is Djokovic the only choice to break the record. Rafael Nadal isn't gonna chase it further. Once Nadal was high and he wasn't able to keep his track record continue due to injuries. If Nadal too is committed, then the competence between Djokovic and Nadal will make this record breaking more interesting. As said, Djokovic have got few more years left to chase and by now many potential young players makes it a hard task for him.

Nadal's body is slowly deteriorating and so in the next 2 years, he might follow Roger Federer's retirement. For Djokovic, I think he can break the tie between them this year and then win a couple to inch close to Roger's record.

But it is without any test or competition from the young generation now with Alcaraz leading the way for this new set of players.

So we will see how good Djokovic if Nadal no longer plays and he is the only one left of the big 3.

I don't know who the best female player of all time was. In the 90s that was undoubtedly the German Steffi grave.

I have to correct you wth her name. The first name is correct but the surname is not. Her name is Steffi Graf. Grave is a dug for a deceased person. But if you want to translate Graf into English then Graf means earl.  Wink But since names are not translated into another language there is no need to do so. But you are right that she was a great female tennis player.

Well the #1 competition to Djokovic' advances is still Nadal I would say but just
marginally ahead of Alcaraz, Zverev Medvedev and Tsitsipas. It really could come
down to injuries and not just in the case of Djokovic but also the afore mentioned.

Is anyone betting on games in the Adelaide International 2 tournament? I just made
1 bet so far on Rublev to beat Kokkinakis tomorrow.

Is there anything good to bet on in the AO qualifiers? I breezed through the pairs today but couldn't find any real value.

I'm trying to find something for tomorrow, but most of the players are unknown to me. Dzumhur does look decent against Purcell @2.10 odds though.

TBH I haven't even considered any matches in the AO yet. I think there will be better
opportunities at the second Adelaide competition.

Two ATP matches up shortly are:
Kubler v Kecmanovic - in the first set now!
Rublev v Kokkinakis

Earlier Draper beat Paul so yea there are still very well known players there compared
to the qualifiers at AO.

Today, Wednesday, there was a training match between Djokovic and Medvedev. Unfortunately it could not be played to the end. They actually wanted to play for 75 minutes. But the match was already over after 36 minutes because the thigh from Djokovic caused problems.
He already had problems with his thigh last week at the tournament in Adelaide also against Medvedev. He said it is only a slight pain but for the sake of safety he preferred to end the match.

Serena also ended her great tennis career and now women's tennis has become less interesting to watch for me, I believe others too.

this Osaka issue from what I can tell she wants to stop playing tennis, maybe it is really tiring for her and for that reason she wants to stop and do other things, usually what has happened is that when someone is a famous athlete and is always traveling from city to city to play this person will not have time for relationships and it will even be difficult to have children and take care of them, there are few people who realize this and decide to retire from the sport, this may be what is happening to her, but if she stops playing will also have serious consequences in terms of her financial income, the sponsors will stop sponsoring her and with that she will not earn money from the sport.

Serena also ended her great tennis career and now women's tennis has become less interesting to watch for me, I believe others too.

this Osaka issue from what I can tell she wants to stop playing tennis, maybe it is really tiring for her and for that reason she wants to stop and do other things, usually what has happened is that when someone is a famous athlete and is always traveling from city to city to play this person will not have time for relationships and it will even be difficult to have children and take care of them, there are few people who realize this and decide to retire from the sport, this may be what is happening to her, but if she stops playing will also have serious consequences in terms of her financial income, the sponsors will stop sponsoring her and with that she will not earn money from the sport.

Yeah, it was just in my feed today and see the news that she is pregnant and that's why she will skipped this years Australian Open. I guess we should be happy for her as she uses to have a family and a child over his career.

Not the first news about a tennis player getting pregnant, Ash Barty also reported that she and husband Garry Kissick were expecting their first child.

So congrats to both ladies.

That are good news and also a good reason. She has said that she wants to play in the Australian Open again next year. That is certainly a bit too early.
Unfortunately, it is generally difficult for women who have had a child to return to sport. Angelique Kerber, for example, had criticised the WTA rules for not protecting them from going down in the world rankings. She is also pregnant and expecting her first child in March.
