The match is already over. And I think it was one of the matches that I was looking forward to seeing among all the matches that there were to see today. But in the end, Sinner won this with quite ease.

All the top three seeds have definitely made it to the quarter-finals. Now it is going to start being interesting.

Yes It was an easy match for Sinner even if Sonego Is a good player. Second set has been super easy for Sinner maybe on te First he has been able to win for one break point... At this point of the tournament I am pretty curious to see now the match against Fils Smiley

I'm not going to give up on Nadal yet, we all know he's getting kind of old and injuries affect tennis players a lot since it's a one player game, but he's not the type of player to give up easily, he had his downs throughout his career and bounced back, I'm expecting him to win a couple of big tournaments before he retires, if his body doesn't bring him down, the mentality to win will always be there with El Matador.
me too - for me Nadal has always been a legend to me.
YOu are right he would not give up that easily - but that too is true -sometime the injuries are fatal and they kick off the players off their career.

Thankfully the injury this time wasn't too fatal, Nadal will soon recover and join in enlivening the next competition
But I'm wondering, Nadal has made many achievements in Tennis, he was injury prone in recent years, maybe the age reason, isn't Nadal planning to take a break from Tennis?
The age of this player from Spain has entered 37 years
knowing Nadal's mentality and how he plays in the court and how he never give up in every point, he won't let injuries and his age stop him from competing, I think Nadal will retire and rest is when his feet give up on him, he has that fighting spirit and it's something you can't teach, he still has time in my opinion to win some more.
Agreed, he's one such person who doesn't give up. The attitude is good, but when it comes to our physical fitness at some point we need to take rest and go on. To have a healthy life is really big task and not something simple. Beyond some age however we train ourselves the injuries that we got earlier will show the effects.

Regardless of the fact that Nadal is truly an example of an athlete who does not give up and fights to the end regardless of numerous injuries, he is getting older every day and will not be able to keep up with the pace of top tennis for much longer.
If he didn't have a lot of injuries that caused him to have to interrupt his tennis career several times, Andy Murray would certainly have won a lot more GS and now we would be talking about the big four of world tennis and not the big three.
Nadal will certainly be the favorite at GS in Paris this year, if he recovers from his injury, but I'm not sure how long he will be able to continue playing at the top level, maybe another year or two.
The same goes for Djokovic.

I would by no means count Murray into the tennis player category of the big three. Murray played five Australian Open finals and lost them all. He played a total of eleven finals and won only three. His win rate is about 75%. Federer's win rate is about 82%. Nadal's is 83%. Djokovic's is about 83.5%.

The difference in the win rate is massive. Getting from 75% to above 80% is not as trivia as one might think at first glance. The win rate is fair indicator because it somewhat eliminates the injury factor.

Djokovic might be better off than Nadal as he weighs less and might have had less stress on his body and in particular on his joints. Nadal is difficult to tell from here. I am sure he is going to try everything he can in order to make it to Paris in a healthy condition. Who knows, maybe that is the last French Open we will see him play. Maybe this year another year when a GOAT says goodbye.

I think where Daniel91 is coming from regarding Murray is that he was the "Best of the rest",
the #4. If any of the top 3 were not factored Murray would be there in their stead, the top 3
won so much there was little else for anyone else.

There was really a two tier field, the top 3 and then everyone else. Murray led that
second tier for a while. thats how I see it.

Yes, you can say that.
Murray is one of the greatest tennis players in history and if he had played in a different time, he would have won many more trophies and GS titles.
However, in one short time it can be said that Murray was equal to the big three and in that time, after almost 100 years of waiting, he brought the British the historic title of Wimbledon winner and also won the Olympic gold medal at the London Olympics.
From that time, I remember that some tennis commentators started talking about the big four of world tennis, but then Murray started suffering from injuries, he played tennis less and less, and soon no one was talking about the big four, but the big three of world tennis.
We'll never know what would have happened if multiple injuries had not stopped a great tennis career from Murray.

Sinner vs Fils Match is going on right now. Sinner is ahead right now. At the end of the first set, he is ahead. The first set was 7-5 in favor of Sinner. When the match started, it was really very close between both of them. But right now Sinner seems to have the advantage. And he is also playing better compared to his opponent. Fils is actually giving him a good fight. But the problem is he is making some mistakes and for those, he is getting punished.

Sinner has risked seriously to loss the first set ! He was on 4-5 with 3 points break for Fils! ...
By the way, for the rest of the match it has been seriously easy for Sinner achieve a win, it was clearly from first game there was an abyss of difference between these two players. Anyhow, nice match by Fils, reaching this stage isn't easy at al!

Right now, Rune vs Cressy...completely another type of match, not really easy up to know for the Danish (that is strongly favorite by bookmakers...)

It was a SIX NATIONS RUGBY day for me yesterday and I only checked in with the Tennis
this morning. I'm shocked to see that Rune was beaten by Cressy, I really thought it was going
to be a Sinner v Rune final.

Sinner should win today, he is the clear favourite 1.29 v 3.5. I would love to see hom do it
and kickstart his 2023 season.

The final was between Sinner and Cressy, prediction of a lot of people failed, mine also. Because I also thought that it was going to be a  Sinner vs Rune final, but that did not happen. Since that did not happen, and only Sinner among these two actually made it to the final, I think we all knew who was going to win the final. And that's what happened. Sinner won the final against Cressy. And I think it is fair to say that he did not face too many problems in the final against Cressy.

We'll never know what would have happened if multiple injuries had not stopped a great tennis career from Murray.

I think the difference between the big three and Murray was that in order for Murray to beat the big three in a GS game, he had to play at 110% capacity. When the big three achieved 100%, it was almost impossible for Murray to beat them. The big three have still been at a different level over a longer period of time. Sometimes it seemed as if it is literally impossible to crack them mentally on the court. Being down 15:40 and yet play a ball that hits the line is what the big three did not-stop, not only during outstanding times. Murray showed his best tennis when he won the Wimbledon finals against Djokovic and Raonic in 2013 and 2016 in plain three sets. No shakiness, no insecurities and essentially no weaknesses. But that wasn't how Murray played constantly.

Federer, Nadal and Djokovic all won roughly 50 tournaments more than Murray. I think that is quite a statement. Also, the three combined have close to 900 weeks as No.1 whereas Murray has 41 weeks. To me Murray is an amazing No. 4.

But when you guys say that during a different era he would have been a dominant No.1, what era are you talking about? Would you say he was better than Pete Sampras who also dominated the tennis world?

Indeed. Interesting games can probably be seen there. The odds are really not great. But that can still change.
I will certainly watch Zverev. It is important for him to regain his fitness and confidence. I am also curious about FAA. He has to slowly bring more consistency into his game and also win a game without losing a set.

When the match goes live the odds will change and it is good to go select an odd once the first set gets over. The young players weren't the topic on the Sports page for a long. This means there is no big performance have come out of them. Possible upcoming matches need to be very interesting and good play needs to come out of them. I'm on the wait to watch the doubles event of Tsitsipas

Good to see Wawrinka plays more frequently again. Similar to Murray there was a relatively short phase in his career where he played outstanding tennis. Most of the other time it was a more of an up and down for him. In some games his fighting spirit was out of this world and he didn't give up a single ball. Now he is also injured more often and I guess he is trying to improve his cash balance a bit before he retires. He is going to turn 38 in March this year. It seems that after his retirement there is no other active tennis player from Switzerland in the higher ATP rankings.

Good bet right there, players like Wawrinka who were at the top of tennis and suffer from injuries and their performance, you can always expect them to win as underdogs from time to time, i almost made a bet Bublik pre match but was afraid if Wawrinka does something in that match so i avoided it, good to see Stan the man again.

Wawrinka got a couple of good years, mainly between 2014 and 2016 where he won 3 grandslams and played really great tennis. I think he more has a love for the game than that he wants to improve his cash balance as he won more than 32 million $ in prize money.

Yes he had his moments to be on top. He will be looking to win some tournaments
this year I would say, both for the prize money and his Tennis. I think he is will
struggle TBH, I'm a big fan of his but there is just some serious competition now,
Djokovic, Zverev, Tsitsipas, Medvedev, Rune, Ruud, Alcaraz, He could if he gets
his game going, stays fit and injury free, be a serious challenge to Nadal I think.

Anyway he beat Bublik in 2 sets yesterday and plays Gasquet next, these two
would know each other well from playing over the years, they have played 4 times
and Gasquet leads 3 - 1

You're right, there will undoubtedly be some thrilling matches at the Rotterdam ATP 500 as it is attracting so many top players. While current ML odds may not look promising, they could alter as the event develops. Yes, I'm keeping a watch on Zverev as well, because it's critical that he get back in shape and feel confident in himself. FAA is also intriguing because I think he has the potential to be great if he can only find some consistency in his play and go at least one game without dropping a set. Wawrinka is up a set to none in what appears to be a close battle against Bublik. The fact that Gasquet defeated Carreno Busta, the no. 7 seed, was a major shock, but it shows that anything can happen in tennis.

Well Zverev got the job done against Kwon. All the usual suspects won their matches,
Felix AA, Hurkacz who had a tough one against Bautista Agut.

Tsitsipas is playing ATM against Ruusuvuori, I certainly wont be betting on that!

Medvedev up later, odds are too low to bet on this one.

Earlier Gasquet beat the no.7 seed Carreno Busta.

...

Shocking match Roll Eyes nothing more to say.
Carreno Busta literally stop to play on third set. Loss every ball he was able to mistake, a total dismal performance. It was like he not interested in this match anymore.
Nice effort by Gasquet that has been able to achieve a nice win!

Auger-Alisassime did an excellent job. The only question is whether he can extend his performance over the duration of a couple of weeks or months or even more. That is what most of these guys are dealing with: keep the top level over a longer period of time.

Tsitsipas is just doing his job right now and I expect him to show up in the final. I would still see him in front of Zverev at this point because even if he loses his nerves every now and then, Zverev is prone to losing his more often.

Well Tsitsipas won in 2 sets, Ruusovouri went ahead in the first set and Tsitsipas' odds
went out to 1.57 - that was decent, I put a $1 bet on, it is Tsitsipas afterall, anything
was liable to happen...

Just watching Medvedev v Davidovich Fokina, Medvedev is not having it easy, a lot of broken
serves in this first set. Medvedev's odds went out to 1.33 so I put 0.1mBTC on him.
