According to NIST and ECRYPT II, the cryptographic algorithms used in Bitcoin are expected to be strong until at least 2030. (After that, it will not be too difficult to transition to different algorithms.)

This is close to scam.

There is no warning that you are not on a single adress or whatever. The average user will run the byteball wallet, try to make the ID check and send 8,- US Dollar to this company and receive = nothing.
That is not the way to make byteball great.

I just contacted the jumio support - lets wait see what the answer is. If no answer, no solution, no refound = scam.

The bot clealy states that you should only use a singlle-address wallet. And it also states that if the process fails, you loose your 8 dollars worth of bytes.

If you're too stupid to read a contract, you really shouldn't be fooling around with crypto. Now you loose 8 dollars, but you mght loose much more in the future if you keep acting so carelessly.

Also crying out SCAM when it's just you being stupid makes you look like a lttle kid. Which maybe you are, in which case I would again advize you to not be fooling around with crypto. Just ask your parents are another adult to handle things with financial implications.

There was another kid a little while ago who complained in a similar fashion that his payment wasn't accepted. He too did not read, the bot says the payment is only valid for 30 minutes.

The question for Byteball is: should we try and make this process kid-proof? My opinion is that we should not. Working with contracts is something for adults. Of course the process should be as easy as possible and the explanation of the terms and conditions should be clear, but totally kid-proofing it seems near impossible and not necessary.

Install the old version from before the update and use backup to restore on the old version. Once successful send all funds to a new installation of the new version on other machine and make a new backup.

This won't help.
I just saved the seed values and did never perform a full backup.

There is no way to block 'kids' from investing or even trying to claim free tokens.  'Kids' can also be mentally slow adults.  I see a bunch of people complain about Byteball (and all other projects as well), simply because they have no damn clue as to what they're doing.  They read what they want and ignore everything else.  So, when they can't figure out how they just spent $8, they complain the project is at fault and ignore what the transition bot said.  It's simply amazing how many of those 'kids' have no idea what a change address is or how to move coins but actually have coins to even move (without having lost them).  Almost as amazing is how many of those people have $100 worth of coin and willing to pay an $8 transaction, but complain that they haven't received $1000 worth of free coin.  They just simply have no clue and almost no amount of coaching will every help them or even change their mind that something is good or bad, because they've already made the decision in their head that it can't be their fault for having not followed directions.

I updated my Byteball wallet today to the latest version.
The application crashed with an Uncaught Exception Error.

I deleted all the files (including %appdata%) and installed the client again.
Recovering the wallet from my seed was followed by this error:

"Uncaught exception: Error: message encrypted to unknown key, device 0GY.....SRL, len=240. The error might be caused by restoring from an old backup or using the same keys on another device"

Any help is appreciated. (Do not PM me asking for my SEED values).

Looks like I probably just deleted bytes worth 1 BTC... haha always lucky.

Edit2:
Recovering any deleted files from SSD is highly unlikely.
Lost all my blackbytes, lost titan-coins worth approx 1 BTC.

So, the first mistake you made was to NOT make a full backup.  That is the biggest mistake you could make and negates everything else in terms of blaming someone else for your problem.

Why would you delete your appdata (wallet folder) just because of a one time error?  That's another mistake (second) in that even if the wallet has a problem, it can be fixed.  So, a backup (simply moving the folder) is preferred to deleting and then hoping to magically get the funds to reappear.

Since you had your seed, you knew up front that a backup of a seed only would only restore bytes (not blackbytes), as it tells you exactly that during the seed backup (and recovery).

There is not a need for a wallet update to restore from seed.  It works.  I fear you have something else going on.
Delete the application and reinstall.

My thought is a good PR is better than a good marketer. Being in industry articles is way more important than marketing campaigns.

Also a good rebranding may be quite useful to promote the coin. In particular, Raiblocks rebranded to Nano, which looks much better. I believe, if Byteball rebranded to Bytes (Balls is also an option Grin), that would draw more attention on Coinmarketcap.

And we need more exchanges. XRB was listed on Binance due to its active community. Why Byteball can't do that? Maybe March distribution will change something.

First change the units to megabytes then ticker mega

I Like that.  I think serious thought should be given to rebrand and reworking of the base unit.  Projects like Raiblocks have exploded while BB has stagnated.  This project desperately needs some eyes on it.

Your app directory "byteball" is located in "%appdata%/../Local" save it but it is better to use the backup-function in the wallet.

From what I see surfing around the crypto world is that "having no clue" of what this is all about is becoming a general rule.
A few know what this is about while the vast majority still sees the crypto world as the get rich quick scheme they love. At the end of the day they rather get poor quick.

%appdata%/../Local  is location  where info on your personal "funds" is. Program files directory keeps common files nessesary to launch client. So all you need to keep you funds safe is to backup that  byteball folder in "%appdata%/../Local", nothing else

I was not aware of the Byteball wallet on Cyptopia being offline. How long has it been offline already?

As far as I am aware, more than a month already. They upgraded the wallet to 2.0 (it was still 1.7 when they started to look into the withdrawal issues) but apparently the issues have still not been resolved yet. Hopefully Tony can lend a hand.

Cryptopia is having a few problems lately, it seems, also as it regards its relations with New Zealand banks, let's hope this exchange will not crumble. But Byteball would absolutely benefit of being in least another major exchange.
