'tape out' completed  Shocked Shocked Shocked Shocked
this was totally unexpected, now I'm excited  Cheesy

Joeventura and his insider information has been wrong with his predictions that there wasn't going to be a physical miner, and I was actually starting to beleive him.

So how long does it take to slice and package wafers?  Anyone?

ok ok you can come back Orama...  this is good news and we can all be friends again  Tongue Kiss

Not long. The time consuming parts still ahead are validation and building the mask set. Time to package, if I remember correctly, is around 49 days from tape out.
KNC never announced when they taped out Jupiter, they just said "we did it ages ago" at some point during summer. Where did you get 49 days from? Seems a very precise number if you can barely remember

Edit: Dug it up, in case people think I'm being a classic FUDster  Grin

Hi Guys

We would like to say that. Yes....we did tape-out of the ASIC some time ago. The exact details of the ASIC schedule, volumes, vendor etc. is kept internal since it's very sensitive information towards competitors. The product development tasks are on-track."

We are still on schedule to begin shipping in September.

Thanks
KnCMiner Team

I think I saw it in the BlackArrow thread. I know it was from Global Foundries, that their average was 49 days from tapeout to a delivered package. What I don't recall was how long from wafer to package. I think it was ten days. What I couldn't recall was where I saw it, or I'd have posted a link. I recall the number quite well, because it's odd that it would be odd.

I've come to the conclusion that KnC pays Avanger. Since so few are saying bad things they said it's ok to pay Avanger to balance the karma Cheesy
Busted! All the BTC mined at the new datacentre is going directly to me so long as I keep the knc thread lively Grin

As we speak I'm being massaged by 6 naked swedish supermodels, while sipping on a glass of vintage DonDom P and dictating this message to the lacky who does my typing for me these day. Bitcoinorma is in the next room polishing my shoes. I might let him have his iphone back if he polishes them so well I can see individual beams of light refract off them from every possible angle, like a diamond. He's spent about 30 days polishing so far, I reckon he might be finished before neptune ships...

Have your lackey flogged. He don't know his champagne!

Fun with numbers

@1440 cores per ASIC

Either 3 ASIC runnin 1Th/s (750MHz clock) or 4 ASIC runnin 750 Gh/s (520MHz clock).

Based on scant info I'd guess 2000 Watts @ the wall MINIMU for 3T.

3 ASIC is ~600 Watt per ASIC  (660 minus ~ 10% loss in the PSU)
4 ASIC is ~450Watt  per  (might be less with slower clock)

That is a lot of heat to pump thru 16cm^2 (based on current 4cmx4cm  heatspreader on 5.5x5.5cm part).
Time to relearn thermal formulas for more fun.

If they go with 5x5cm heatspreader it's 25cm^2.

The largest 'common' heatsinks that I am familiar with are 50mmx50mm FWIW.

Plenty to argue about for the optimists AND the pessimists !

My current plan is to stay in line and take delivery!

Well to those who are wondering at the refund process I got my refund for 13.2k for 2nd batch Neptune order from knc.

I just looked today not sure how long it took but I send and got a reply to my email with the bank reply was accepted by knc same day of 2/25/14
so today is 3/8/2014....again not sure when it came in yet just have the balance from the atm..but less then what is 11 days...not bad.

So anyway I am also still holding on for a knc miracle on the batch 0 customer appreciation order at $10,131.20 w/ship to USA...

hoping for one or more of the below:

1) 4 to 4.5TH as a compensation..(yeah I'm dreaming)

2) virtual hash 3TH staring March 15th or so till physical miner (see above) (1) arrives say april 15th (yep still dreaming big here is what I am!)

3) can full refund up to the day I can decide between a full refund for miner or virtual miner or whatever

4) and hope like hell that everyone else has dropped Neptune orders...and an avalanche (volcano whatever) destabilizing the KNC GH farm (er after I get my physical (see 1 above) miner!

yep that about covers it for my "in my dreams" scenario

any thing less then at least something kinda sorta real from the above and coward that I am I will punt and run away.....(we also serve who scamper and quiver in the btc universe)

but my FALSE courage stems from the fact I THINK  I have time to refund yet ..if I'm wrong and I can virual mine in March or get physical miner soonest so be it

so fence sitting yet

seems weird that my name would be repetitiously brought up wrt some sort of 'classic fudster' nonsense when all i have done is point out lies & liars.

it is not my doing or fault they were so vociferous, i merely came to point them out.

would it be better if they were left in peace to run amok among us??

seems that some would believe it to be so, i wonder why??

now that scammer1969 and his alter-ego brothers/mates have slunk off isnt it nicer & safer here?

i certainly think so, even if KnC still show us the same disregard they pretty much always have done.

it baffles me why some posters would prefer if the scammers were given free reign to just be cunts and even go so far as to defend them and/or offer them 'donations'

anyway, for 32 grand im entitled to voice my opinions, so put that in your pipe and dont smoke it, this is a public space!!

OTT & vicious, indeed!!

have you got any proof that pheonix1969 was a scammer? If you have then just prove it and stop.

or were you offended by some dispute/remarks by pheonix1969 in the past and haven't got over it?

You're just making yourself look like someone not operating on all cylinders.  Let it go, enough is enough.

One theory I can believe is that pheonix1969 was a big KNC fanboy, so the FUDster's felt it their duty at character assassination to help further their cause.

There is only speculation at this point as KnC has not released any final details yet. But it's likely going to require you to run your Neptune inside a co-location as you will likely need two to four 20AMP circuits to power one. In co-lo's you pay per circuit and not pay for the consumption of power.

What 40A to 80A at 230V to power one Neptune I don't think so.  Even 40A@110V sounds far too high as Bitmine can get ~1(GH/s)/~1W@28nm at the wall socket.

Going by KnC's old numbers it was speculated you would need about 3500 watts to power a 4TH/s machine, if KnC bumped it up that high. At this point it's hard to say what the new number means, 43% less power, is that less than original predicted or less than what the 28nm wafer, or chip? So instead of being 0.7watts per GH, I guess its 0.57 watts per GH?

Using the new numbers, I would speculated that you will need 600 to 700 watts of power per 1TH/s. Regardless though I will be sticking my Neptune into a co-lo this way I don't have to worry about the added costs involved in cooling it and I will also able to run it on cleaner power, 200V.

hi phoenix,

whats wrong? i remember you as polite and friendly person in this thread. what happend? how is mining going?

greets

ImI

Too many provokers over the course of say more than half a year. It's hard to be helpful in an environment where there's nothing to be gained, and people stabbing at any and every crack, even when there's none and only speculation. Especially since money is involved, even the slightest thing that goes wrong can turn people into assholes. And many things have went wrong. Money controls our life, at least until enough is earned where we won't have to worry about it (which few achieve). Especially with the lack of accountability that pseudo anonymity brings, it's easy for people to be assholes.

Poor dude. No one can deny that over the months he had been helpful and pretty transparent. Anyone should keep in mind online to not take attacks seriously. But I guess it's hard with how personal and consistent the attacks have been.

I appreciate the information that both sides bring, but the tone and accusations honestly helps no one.

When you put all your eggs in the bitcoin basket and bitcoin turns to shit, that is what happens. When greedy ass people don't have money coming in or are losing out it is very stressful. While I like to have money and it does make things easier I never obsessed over it or became a greedy fuck over it. I was taught many more things are much more important in life. It is unfortunate that the root of all evil is money.

There are rumors that the next gen asicminer product will be available in April and use .5w/gh. I'm also very impressed by what bitmain was able to do with their antminers and hope they come out with a more power efficient version soon. The 1TH dragon units also look very interesting.

Stop pre-ordering, people! There is no need to take additional risk with pre-orders when competent companies are producing mining hardware at a fair price that ships immediately.

Knc could be dominating the in stock bitcoin mining hardware market by shipping jupiters as fast as they can make them, but they chose to misuse Neptune preorder money to build their own private mining farm.
Have heard the same, next generation Antminer should be available in April with much more power efficience, and Bitmain is one of the companies wich one changes the miner market away from long time pre-orders. Have ordered some S1 since december and must say - very fast delivery (shortest delivery was received three days after order from china to germany!), very good support & contact with Sushi - perfect, only the power consumption of S1 is too high for long time mining...

And sorry for all "KNC evangelists" - the only thing what you will have with all the Neptune pre-orders is probably a big loss, maybe A.Kennemar and his friends only interested now to put a lot of money in there own pockets... In the swedish video everyone can see how many miners are working only for KNC ***right now*** - probably this is the way wich one the pre-order money is gone. They have delivered the 28nm products last year and after everyone had trust KNC, they have made a big bang to mine all for there own pockets - The temptation was too great, maybe - just my 2 cents...

It is mind boggling thinking how many bitcoin KNC has made already with their farm. They are the ones killing our return/reward from their own miners we bought from them. Fuckers.

+1 Well spotted. I was wondering what that % was based on too, 43% less power consumption of something that doesn't exist doesn't make sense really does it? Meaningless number without something to compare it from.

This is so much more fun without any money in Swedish hands to worry about I have to say.
I wish you good fortune come summer. You're braver than I. lol

I'll guarantee that you'll see the new 20nm gear running in their data farm before they start making mining rigs. They've turned into greedy monsters and will probably try to persuade everyone to just go for the cloud hashing and not even get a Neptune delivered. When you are making a ton of bitcoin everyday like they are and have been the last thing they want to do is put energy into making new hardware and shipping it out all over the world. Then have to support it.

A skeptic would say that Knc timed their tape-out announcement to slow down refund requests.

If the tape-out was completed in February, why wait until March 5th to announce it when more are more refunds are being requested everyday? I don't get it.

You took the words right out of my mouth. How else would you try to slow down refunds and stop people giving their money to Bitmain? We all remember, "keep your bitcoin handy, they will go fast". Don't forget that, because what someone does in the past only shows who they are today.
