I tried to find my Neptune posts so I could copy them -- and gloat. But gloating seems in really poor taste because of all the problems...

Anyway when Neptune was announced I provided some cautions -- including that I had some Xilinx 20NM based product on order -- and it was already late -- it should have been delivered in Oct/Nov 2013. I should see a shipping notice this week -- I guess.

As someone who worked all his life at the bleeding edge of technology I could not see this (Neptune) product could be delivered on time. I had hoped they would make additional Jupiters available in December/January -- as they likely (but not certainly) would have made a positive ROI.

My calculations showed that delivery later than mid-March 2014 made a positive payout seem unlikely.

Then I saw the notice about their northern mining factory....

Then came the 3THash mining contracts offer...

The came the "be patient" -- we'll deliver a "two-for-one" offer!


Anyway -- I guess this cost me since the rise in difficulty means we will get about 10 BTC less than estimated from our Jupiter (nee Saturn)...

It looks like bait and switch to me -- go get them!

Risk is one thing -- chance is another -- don't want to use the nasty "F-Word" but when you promise one thing and don't deliver -- or deliver something else or devalued goods -- what can you call it? Just a wee mistake?

This morning I have a good telephone conversation with KNC.
I can send back all the broken cards on their costs. Received a UPS label.

KNC confirmed the replacement cards are new and tested.
So I hope this nightmare comes to an end.

Yes I am the same who got the damaged KnC miners and had them tested with a technician who told me that they are dangerous to run as they run too hot. Just posted some screenshots of yesterday's second testing round on the KnC Forum.

I usually buy all the miners which are out there and as I live in Hong Kong which is close to Shenzhen I went to meet Zeus. I can guarantee you that Zeus is genuine and that they are producing high quality miners which they will ship out already on the 20th. I have invested a lot of money with them and no worries as Terry is very transparent, friendly, knowledgable. I have seen the first prototypes hashing. Can't wait to get my miners!

New, and tested, eh.....   so the thermal paste is from the testing, and the cards are actually new, so there was indeed a manufacture problem confirmed?  Did they say anything else besides "new"?

I just received my replacements, Im not impressed, original box was ripped open, they didnt send me any extra paste.  On the bright side, box wasnt filled with pieces...will let know how many work/dont.

if there's any truth to a recent reply posed, the pcb problems may indeed be manufacture related... keep a cold heat pen handy.

does the bright white LED light come on for a few seconds about 30 seconds after startup? what lights do/do not come on?

You have nothing to lose by trying the cold-heat pen on solder points...  it may work fine after 5 minutes "on the bench"

hmm, If I remember correctly, the bright white L.E.D. light is supposed to come on for about three seconds(once), indicating the actual bootup.(what mine did)
It may be not booting up at all....
anyone?

Please, the "cold-heat pen" comments are getting repetitive. Most people aren't going to do this as it would certainly void the warranty. I'm glad you love your pen but please stop.

Besides, the controller boards components aren't generally bad. There are helpful posts on the KNC forum addressing the problems with the controller boards.

Controller board problems:

If you cannot access your controller board/beaglebone. Please follow the below instructions.

If you cannot access the beaglebone through web or SSH, it is most likely due to corrupt firmware, you will need to re-flash your beaglebone

Here are the instructions you need to re-flash your beaglebone:

Please download the following file: https://www.kncminer.com/userfiles/f...age_0.99-E.zip and follow the instructions below.

1) Copy the ZIP file to an SD card and unzip the content of the archive on to the micro SD card formatted with FAT file system.
2) Turn the miner off via the power supply off switch and disconnect from the wall.
3) Open the case of the miner.
4) Insert the micro SD with the recovery files on it in to the SD card slot on the controller board
Note: to insert the micro SD card into the slot it might be necessary to unplug the flat cables which connect the ASIC boards to the controller board.

5) Reconnect the power supply and turn the power on.
6) Please wait while internal MMC flash memory is reprogrammed there will be a sequence of LED as follows:
1,2,3,4 blue LEDs on the BeagleBone will turn on, then bright white LED inside the case turns on for several seconds and then the red + green LEDs on the control board are on this means that the programming is in progress. When only the green LED is on for 5 seconds this means that the recovery was successful then all LEDs should go off and it means that the procedure completed.

7) Turn the miner off again and disconnect from the wall.
Eject the micro SD card from the controller board.
9) Plug in all the cables that were unplugged and ensure that they are secured.
10) Reconnect the power supply and power on. The miner should then start from the on-board MMC flash with the software revision 0.9.9-E
11) Install the latest firmware if you can access the miners interface: https://www.kncminer.com/userfiles/f...miner-1.01.bin

If your miner is still inaccessible:

Note: If you still cannot access the interface, please disconnect each ASIC board and then try to access the interface. If you can access the interface without any ASIC boards connected, you will most likely then have an ASIC board which is causing this issue. Please then connect these individually until you find the problem board. Once you have found a problem board, please let us know.
