Don't be a douche. Read the terms of the OP, refunds aren't even a part of the original "deal."

He has an obligation as a group buy leader to provide updates. The original deal was the Yifu would ship chips weeks ago. Didn't happen. The deal has changed, Steamboat already committed to refunds. Even if we disregard his legal obligations, there's also a moral obligation to people. He's got over a million bucks of people's money tied up in these deals. He needs to man up and deal with it. He's already decided he's keeping 5% of our chip money (and who the hell knows HOW MUCH of the board money). Time for him to start EARNING that by dealing with his obligations.

And the comparison to Raginazn ("he's not QUITE as bad as that guy"). Sorry, but if Raginazn is the bar by which group buy leaders are measured, Steamboat's STILL not coming in above it by much, which is downright pathetic. I have to agree with many here. SB and all other parties have no excuse for lack of communication in our digital world. It's not like you have a call list of 1000's of people to get in touch with. You have email and this forum. A mass email/group list can be created and 2 sentences take about 2 mins of your day to write. You obviously don't even have to reply to any further responses/questions form the recipients, as evidenced by EVERY ASIC company in existence.

Actually, I wouldn't characterize his latest updates as containing "substantial information". Rather, I feel they contain substantial lack of information in key areas, such as the status of refund requests and an update on his predatory "no assembly refunds" stance.

The fact that he's been going AT LEAST a week between updates does not help matters. I don't want to be coddled, I just want to be treated with respect, and given information in a timely manner.

It's nice for you that your wife comforts you when things go south. That in NO WAY mitigates SteamBoat's responsibility to his group buyers. Hopefully his wife will comfort HIM when this finally catches up to him.

At this point, even if he is working out a deal to obtain gen2 chips to still be able to utilize the assembly process.  I still wouldn't take it.  My options:

If chip refunds are supplied AND parts/assembly are not refundable then I say give me chip refund and send me my parts that I paid for -- since there is no refund.  I wouldn't allow SB to keep the parts with no refund.

At this point I'm assuming steamboat would rather assemble our boards than work out some kind of refund.  So even if chips get refunded, steamboat should still be trying to broker a deal so the parts can be re-used on 2nd gen chips and those of us who already paid for assembly don't get left out in the cold.

I'd rather not assume though.  I think it's high time for some kind of communication from dear leader steamboat.
