Free beer and t-shirts at ghash.io!!! You make double the bitcoin there and the guy who ownes it is a saint. Pool hopping actually works good there as long as you hop between ghash and Eligius(not Slush's). You just have to go try it out. All the hashrate there is from happy customers that they respect so much and not from a huge bitfurry farm that has led to the end of home mining making any profits. I respect all the smart people who kept mining there helping ghash make the profits to keep buying more asics for their farm. People talk bad about them sometimes but all they did in the past was intentionally double spend payments against the system but they admitted it - so that's ok. See you there! Go ghash You got me a free beer and t-shirts........They really need to work on the "Evil Empire" logo though.

Statistically speaking, I think bigger pool power is good. It helps crunch big blocks faster, but because of good pool luck we get more payment, even it is divided in smaller payments. If I`m correct.

^ Twice as much ghs has cut my profits in half. Notice it really hasn't affected our block count much. If we were nailing down 18 or so blocks a day then yes more ghs would be better. Mabey a pplns pool that worked in shifts I would be sitting a little better with this issue.
I agree if blocks dont increase with this huge surge of hashing power then somethings wrong in Demark

^ so much ghs at once. We may start nailing them down. We will see. Let the Rain Dance begin!!! We are officially testing new waters. I guess we need a minimum of 12 blocks a day to survive? If we can keep it steady and balanced without people hopping around and throwing off our processing stability, which does effect luck on block solving, we may have a chance.

I wondering where it came from all of a sudden. I have looked at other pool forums and I don't think it is failover as all pools seem to be up. 3+ PH is a lot of hash to throw around wonder if a smaller pool is mining us I know multipoll.us jumps from pool to pool but I don't think they are close to that size.

Hmmm, makes me wonder if this was the 1 Ph/s miner that was block withholding on another pool but with 3x the hash power... Those wondering about the "buggy" front end issues as of late...I do remember seeing a post on Facebook mentioning a WEBGUI update so I'd imagine that is all that is going on.

How do you know if someone was block witholding?
It has been discussed to death in other threads. There is absolutely no way of knowing it apart from bad luck for certain. The best you can do is be very suspicious once one miner has mined more than about 5x diff in shares and not found a block. By 10x diff it's almost certain. That's a long time to wait and see before you can start accusing, and there's nothing to stop them from just moving their mining to a different account or split it across multiple accounts to hide it. On the other hand, on a non-PPS pool, the miner has zero to gain by doing a block withhold unless they're maliciously trying to harm the pool as a very expensive exercise. The only known block withhold to date has been attributed to a software bug on the miner's part for their custom mining hardware+software combination, but even then we'll never know for sure.

Thank you for putting this into layman's terms. I actually understand it better now than from when I was trying to follow the thread and I do remember the custom software being mentioned now. I don't claim to know too much about the technicalities of how mining works but I do my best to stay aware of whats happening so that I can make more educated decisions when it comes to buying new gear or what have you.

CK, know you visit various threads do you have any insight / speculation on the sudden appearance of the 3+PH here? As said thanks for that and other explanations it really does break it down and helps educate a lot of us.

No idea, and no they're not the same entity that mined on my solo pool.

We have went from 8 blocks in 24 hours down to 6 blocks in 24 hours. With this pool hashrate we need a minimum of 8 blocks per 24 hour. You guys know I'm normally positive about this pool when everyone is bitching, but it's panic mode time!!!! Sound the alarms!!!!!

What happened to this pool!!! My rewards have tanked and it is taking the same amount of time or even longer to find a block. If this keeps up it will be time to move on. A pity considering this was a great place to mine. Nothing good lasts for ever!!!

Yeah I am watching the block count closely and will be making a move in the next couple/few days if necessary.
