Either one of those pools are just as good as the other.  I suppose when we wake up we make a decision on which pool we think will be the luckiest for that day.

Yeah, but when you hop away from Slush, you pretty well sacrifice your shares in the block being worked on.  Best to stick with one or the other IMHO, or both of course, which would even out your variance a bit more.  You might find that's something worth trying: you could put half your ants on Slush and the other half on Ghash.  Personally, I would always stay with Slush - we might get some long blocks, but we certainly get a good number of short ones to compensate. Smiley

TOTALLY AGREE WITH YOU on the "hop" thing.  Yes, shares (earnings) are at jeopardy when hopping from one to the other.  I also believe it would be best to stick with one for at least a week if not a month before ever changing to another OR doing like you said, "Half on one and half on the other."

^ +1 I'm notorious for saying this. Your best bet is to use variance. Variance is dividing your ghs between at least two pools. The system I use is to keep 80%  here at Slush and 20% at BTCguild. Using this method, on bad luck days u still have the possibility of the other pool being very lucky. It's a good proven system no pool hopping involved. If pool hopping really worked we would all be doing it.

Summary: Dont keep all your eggs in the same basket.

Well I am saying as of last few days with that 17hr block that 17hr at ghash i would of got almost .02 here i received .004sumthing for 17hrs of hashing. however there was a quick succession making last nights
Heres the last 24 hrs well over 24 hrs i think

but here lets take this example now maybe I am not reading this right please look at the times and confirm this is a 24 hr period.I messed up somewhere is this 2 days or am i seeing something crazy "Luck"? I looked it up and down and seems right about a 24 hr period?

When you do a pool comparisons you need to use at least at the minimum 1 month's worth of data preferably 3 to 6. For those that have been here a while we can tell you that Slush averages 5 to 6 blocks a day when you average it out over time. The total payout here is a little better because of the lower hashing rate. Slush is a pool that you point your miners at and forget them, check it once or twice a week and let it be.

So could it be said that a good pool is one thats big enough but not to big where as the payouts are less such as the average ghash payout of .004 per block allbe it they blocks process fast enough by the end of the day as noted its .02 Yes agree need a one month data set, anyone got one Smiley?  So here at slush if there are too many miners the payout goes down ? My big question is why does 1 block take 17hrs to hash when another takes 45mins Those 17hr blocks kill a daily payout Smiley I had to run a 24hr comparison to try to figure who to call home slush or ghash ghash is so huge you can gurantee something steady but low. .02etc in my other post can you please confimr that time period that equaled .05 was a 24hr period of blocks or am i missing something is it 2 days? cause if thats a 24hr period i found my home here at slsush Smiley NQA

Luck (or lack of) is why it took 17 hrs to solve that block. I have seen several 24+ hour rounds to find a block here at Slush. Yes on the 6th we had a good run of luck and did solve 10 blocks that is why you have to look at 90 to 180 days worth of numbers to get a true average. If you were to compare "the evil empire" and us for 6 months I bet you would find we are very close to the same pay out. I mine here because it is a solid pool with very few problems with good support. If you go back and read several hundred pages back you will see these very same questions brought up several times.

My observations agree - in the long run the payouts are about the same. I like slush because it's a little more exciting. Finding a block on GHash is a yawn with its small payout; but finding one on slush is a Boo-Ya.

The only thing I don't like about slush is if you lose power it penalizes you as if you're pool hopping and shares you may have been working on for 20+ hours wither away to nothing.

Hot time, summer in the city, back of my mine getting hot & gritty!!!

Agreed, and I let's not forget we don't want to help the  "Evil Empire" achieve the 51%.

^ Its never really been about just the hashrate. They are a farm, not just a pool. New miners think all that hashpower there is home miners so that must be where all the home miners are making good coin. Look at ghash's invalid/orphan rate. It's extremely high because they try to cheat the system by using a low n number. They have also intentionally double spent in the past and admitted it. Cex/ghash are not honest, they are an "Evil Conglomerate" out to rule the world. A "corporation" farm hurts the home miners and really Bitcoin the most. By mining there people are buying them more equipment, thus making their farm larger and bringing our end nearer.

Note: There are solutions for the 51% attack situation. When the fix needs to be implimented it will be. (A nameless bitcoin dev) and others have had the solution ready for awhile now. The whole 51% thing just makes good press, it's all about fear, thats why you never hear that a 51% attack would be noticed immediately and the fix would shut it down almost immediately making all the attackers blocks invalid.

That is good to hear, but with even a 51% attack fix (and I know you agree) no one entity needs to control 51% of the hash period, that is just bad for us all the way around. Why all these people keep mining there I just don't understand.

My internet was completely out at the TIME you asked that question.

It's been out for 9 of us on my street off and on today for a total of about 5 hours.

They are supposed to fix it tomorrow.

I added 2 more S3's to my farm today.  USPS took one to the wrong city "out for delivery."  Thank God they didn't leave it on someone's door step.  Tracking shows it's back at the receiving facility to come to Birmingham.

It works fine when it gets cool at night.  I think the node gets too hot during the day and works fine when it's cooler at night.

Clearly you need to add an exhaust heat management system:

Making progress on the heat removal front!

I call it The Hot Blast Redirectenator.  Got it at Home Depot.  (That is foil tape, absolutely required, amazing stuff!)

And this is its Chimney:

Both the S4 and his two little brother S3's exhaust heat out through a hole in my basement wall (was for a clothes dryer exhaust).  I also have an inline fan that pulls 240 cubic feet per minute, to help push the air flow through the reducers and out the smallish 4" hole, but am not using it yet.

As the weather gets colder of course, I will rearrange this a bit to let me pipe all that heat inside, possibly upstairs into the main living areas of the house, and then probably use the hole in the exterior wall (and perhaps the fan) to pull in cold air from outside, to lower the ambient temperature inside the closet.

I think the S4 might be able to heat this whole ~2,000 sqft house all by itself!  It's certainly made the entire downstairs half unbearably hot this past week with little to no help from Mother Nature at all...

What do you think?

SWEEEEEEEEEET

I want S4's SO SO BAD RIGHT NOW...

I have 12 S3+'s going right now.  How do we add pictures? I'm working on mounting a new 125 AMP sub panel (breaker panel) next to the Main Breaker Panel this weekend.  THEN I will work on ventilation similar to what you have going on.

I LIKE IT!!!

I've mentioned in previous posts that I'm adding nothing but S4's from here on out.

Gonna use every BTC I earn for nothing but S4's till I have 8 of them.

How do we add pics?

I'll show you what I'm doing with exhaust and ventilation as soon as I have that finished.

Trying to show the S3's going in an image but haven't figured out how to put an image on here.

As I add S4's, I should be able to get the next one faster and faster.

My little farm is in the recreation room (12' x 26') downstairs. I have two windows in the recreation room.  One window has a box fan sucking cool air in from outside [furthest from the farm].  The other window has a box fan sucking hot air out from inside [closest to the farm].  However, I have much better idea to take care of this as soon as I take the time to install the sub panel for more breakers (circuits) and run new wiring.

Some SERIOUS exhaust fans will be purchased and installed in those windows soon.  Those windows face the back of the house with a fenced in back yard.  So, they are not an eye sore.
