Each block is stacked on top of the previous one. Adding another block to the top makes all lower blocks more difficult to remove: there is more "weight" above each block. A transaction in a block 6 blocks deep (6 confirmations) will be very difficult to remove.

They are loud but not too bad.

I had a breaker throw when I was updating firmware a few days ago. After that the unit was constantly rebooting and giving me problems. Today I got lucky and managed to get into the setup without it freezing and it took the firmware update. Has been screaming since.

These things sure need a lot of juice.

I suppose I only made a good LUCK decision to move over to the Evil Empire yesterday.  Found 41 Blocks.  They need to find 34.5 blocks to equal the 4.5 blocks in each day for my payouts to be the same.  Since it was 6.5 blocks more than the 34.5, its as if I was on Slush and found 5 blocks [Close to it], as far as the payout goes.

Again, I suppose I made a good LUCK decision.  I'm staying at the Evil Empire till midnight THEIR time before switching back to 80% Slush and 20% Evil Empire.

Part of me likes long blocks. It gets some of the jumpers to go away to other pools making my shares worth more.

Go away and stay away jumpers.

I didn't want to post all of them on here.  This was just to show you the pay outs for 10/14/2014 thus far today.  I did not post all of them to save space, but it's enough for you to get the drift.  I've been getting these payouts since noon yesterday.  Yesterday they found 41 blocks.  Today, they have already found at least 30.  That is close to the 34.5 needed to be equivalent to Slush's payout if we found 4.5 blocks.

I'm just staying here till midnight Evil Empire's time then switching back over to Slush to start a new day.  IF I miss out on a lot of blocks found at Slush, so be it.

THIS IS WITH 7.2 Th/s

Go away and stay away jumpers.

LOL

I'm telling you, majority of my time is with Slush.  Seriously.  The last couple of days pissed me off.  Had me paranoid.  So, I switched for a bit before coming back.  I'm not a hopper!

You can call me a "Jumper," that's fine.  At least I made a good luck decision.

Yes, you are right about your shares being higher WHEN a block is found.

It's a free world.  It's also a "business decision."  Just happened to make a good decision for the last couple of days.

dmwardjr - not sure why you feel the need to justify an otherwise brilliant decision. There are no flukes in bitcoin mining, and seeing you have invested quite a bit in your hardware, I am (with hindsight) glad for you as clearly it has worked wonders on this occassion. What is perplexing me is why you'd want to switch back to slush when you are clearly doing better than you would at slush! I've got an account with the evil empire as well, and often switch over en-masse to them (not in the last few months though).

Wow the setup above is nice!

I wonder how many watts are currently being spent mining BTC in the world. Any idea on the average Jules/gigahash? is it around 1.25 or something?

We are going to burn our world's oil reserves faster than we thought =]

Thanks for the props!  The following is a great article that answers your question in relation to gold.

https://cdn.panteracapital.com/wp-content/uploads/Bitcoin-vs-Gold.pdf

 The annual cost of mining gold is $105 billion vs. $0.79 billion for Bitcoin.
 Gold mining uses 475 million gigajoules of energy versus 3.6 million for Bitcoin.

Wow, thank you for that! That's a great read!

You make a great point!

I guess I may come to the DARK SIDE!

We are already at 35 blocks [Only needed 34.5 to be 100% Luck for the day and have the same pay out as Slush]!

Yes, Slush does have better payouts.  However, The Dark Side is more consistent!

If anyone was to mine Slush and the Dark Side, it would be more expedient to do 80% Dark Side and 20% Slush; so as not to have all your eggs in one basket.

You are VERY welcome!

36 Blocks at the Dark Side, now, and still have 3 hours 23 minutes to go!

EDIT:

Apparently, one's number of shares (profits) increase the longer you stay on the pool until your "1 Day" hash rate has peaked out!  I can tell my shares increase as my "1 Day Hash rate" increases.  This is with the Pools TOTAL hash rate remaining approximately the same.  See below:

That's the way I was looking at it.

The main reason i brought this up is because I made some comparisons between pools with "earnings" numbers that were not accurate.  The Dark Side ends up being a little more profitable than I previously anticipated after one allows for their "1 Day" hash rate total to peek to the same average as the 15 minute total.

@ dmwardjr

I use the ongoing benchmark in this link. I have miners here and BTCguild. My neice has 1050ghs over at the dark side(she has a miner that doesn't preform well at most other pools). I can tell you those pools in that link do better than ghash almost every month. I guess due to down time and orphans? You have to look over time to really compare. It's good your dividing your hash. Everything is always changing, but here and BTCguild still payout good. It just sucks when luck is bad.

So, you like BTC Guild more than Dark Side and/or have you tried the dark side for at least 2 days to determine if you like its payouts or not compared to BTC Guild?

Thanks for the link comparison.

I'm unsure about getting on someone else's node in P2Pool.  I don't know if I can trust their performance or not.

Also, do you prefer P2Pool over Slush and/or is P2Pool considered the same league as BTC and Dark Side?

^ p2pool is great. There are several people who run good public nodes if you don't want to run your own. Latency is crucial so ping test your connection good and pick a public node with good connection. I think ckolivas (cgminer dev) runs a new p2pool "pool" @ 0.5% so you can bet it's as honest as it gets.

These guys in the link below are good. It's an easy log on and mine process with a good dashboard. I'd recommend them just to see what it's about. Its safe, you get paid direct so they never touch your bitcoin.

http://minefast.coincadence.com/

Note: There is a difference between p2pool and p2pool.org - the .org just being a regular pool with higher fees. I heard CoinCadence was buying them(.org) out but keeping the coincidence stuff still free and separate, so who knows.

Update: I am a diehard Slush pool user/fan. I'm just explaining places to learn more about different aspects of mining. I run 80% Slush and 20% BTCguild. When one can't preform any longer I'll problably switch whichever one to ckolivas p2pool.
