a few things or changes we will see:
- account Full Member and up will be selling at very high premium price
- signature campaign and airdrop will be based on combination of rank & merit points
- possible buying/selling (already happening?) merit point openly or discreetly

Certain users are designated as "merit sources". They can create new merit out of nothing, up to a limited number per month (which differs per source). I will not be posting a definitive list of merit sources (so that people don't bug them too much), though you'll soon figure out who they are if you pay attention.

how about re-selecting "merit sources" users randomly every month?
for example random 10 out of top 1000 merited users in previous month

Not long since I wondered when something new is being brought up. I see this as a move to the right direction. Obviously there are things to iron out but I have faith this will bring positive changes.

I'm of course worried about people gaming the system which is inevitable but doubt there's anything that couldn't be fixed.

Hello, I try to understand the system. I'm relatively new here, but I agree 100% about the need to stop shitposters (I hope I'm not one of them, even sure I need to improve the quality of my posts, and the merit system gives me a good motivation)

Btw, it seems to me that it's a little unbalanced as starting point, if I understand well:

now - as member - I have 10 merit points, by default.

Full members have - by default - 100 points

What I'm trying to say:

If anything goes well, in just a month me too I'll become Full Member, but it's very difficult to believe that I'll receive 100 merit points, even if my posts were masterworks.

May be I'm doing a poor evaluation, but it seems to me that a so big different evaluation in starting point gives a too big advantage to high rank members, and it will make impossible for low rank members to grow.

(oh, may be I'm wrong, and anyone will be generous in giving merit points).

It's not a critic, I'd just like to know if I understood correctly the system, and if what I said is just bullshit of if it makes any sense.

It may be abused by the account farmers as said by others, but it will make it harder at least for them and that is a good thing!
Now i just need to come up with some high quality posts to gain 150 merit in the next two months when activity would rank me up

Since cryptocurrencies have taken off, the amount of low quality posts on BCT has increased significantly. I really welcome this kind of initiative. However, I am excited to see whether it works as intended or not.

I guess that would hardly change. Projects still pay for bumping their ANN's. At the moment this is only at a level that encourages signature campaign participants (mostly) to pace up the quality of their posts. So you would see a nice change in increase in quality posts in forum but its not gonna put an end to those bumpers.

It's somehow good for the forum , to regulate and lessen alts account. But harder for those people like me to earn a merit. Just wondering if Its OK if I offer a service and then I ask for merit in return? Is that even legal ?

theymos will make a 'merit' page to see on how often members are giving merit to other one. And people who are giving merits to others are transparent and can be seen so there will be an obvious if "guy one" send merit to "guy two" most of the time. But this will be hard to determine on who are those people doing this thing all of the sudden, looking at their post one by one.

For now let's adopt this system and it's better to give credit to the valuable posts that contributes to the forum's greatness.

If you can see in the image Theymos has already acquired some merits which will eventually take up some space of your screen. If you acquired too much merit from different user here it will be annoying to the eye and obviously Theymos will do something about it and will have to add minimized option or hide.

theymos need to make a public list of sent and received merit of a user, like a trust summary. This will easily solve that problem.

I will do this in the near future, maybe tomorrow. Also top merited posts/topics/users.

Hypothetically, abuse from user will happen for creating such group in the following months or so, and another "great chase" will start to happen leaving yet another hard job for DT`s and moderators.
It may seem viable, but there are still some flaws towards the new merit system and for sure abuse will come along next to it.

Abuse will come along but for now let's see on how things will work on and when we are there, there will be another action to solve on it. But it will be exposed if there will be people who started to involved themselves with such activities about merit. For the meanwhile, all of us are liking this merit points system.

Because being active in the forum doesnt mean that you dont shitpost here. This is pretty much better than the old system

Because it will not stop spam posts. Activity can be gained by just making  posts daily one on average. Merit is to ensure that people make quality posts.

I do not think 99% of high-quality posts will give Merits. I understand that BCT needs to stop spam. But I think merits is not a good idea. No one will give smerits to Jr or Member.

People are so innocent when thinking that someone will give Newbies and Junior Member or even Member some sMerits. LOL

Do you think that the community can survive if all members here just become selfish. It is mentioned that sMerits may be nullifed and thus there is no point in hoarding them.

Should we not disable sMerits for Legendaries? sMerits are a scarce resource, after all.

Turkish local board of the forum is very nervous and they think already given merit points distrubition is unfair.

It have to be shared according to current activity point , and may be extra points for trust points as well.

hope that moderation will fix this unfair distrubition.

Depending on the service, if its tx acceleration then negative will be given to you instead of merit points. On the other hand you might be tagged for doing such service "Begging for merit points, avoid like a plague".
Its hard to tell since there is no such rules given by Theymos about this. Why not try to do a service and lets see what the DT`s will have to say about it. Just be ready for the outcome of your action.

Legal or illegal only Theymos can answer that question, im sure that there will be services that will be opening up in the following days to come and it will have the eyes of "you know who".

I welcome idea that would stop people from randomly bumping up their post count with meaningless posts.
Also i think this is very good tool because it stands in the middle of the "post count- Activity number" and "Trust system points" that people barely use.

It will probably be abused, but any system becomes like that at some point. How admins will respond to that kind of problem will lead us to conclusion how good will Merit points become in a few months or a year to come.

Yes and no, right now, merit sent to legendaries is wasted. Likewise, sMerit not being used and sitting in an account is wasted.
If I have a lot of sMerit I wouldnt use, why not give them for an exceptional post, even by a legendary, to show some appreciation?
I'd still have enough left to reward posts from lower members after that.

Another aspect: If they make high quality posts and you send them merit, that is a good example for newbies.
They can check which kind of posts gain merit and learn how to increase their post quality that way.

I specifically used my time to read this thread right from the beginning. I must confuse this system is a good attempt to wipe away shit posting but it is also another way to drive this forum to some kind of politics play where by some higher ranked members will be giving out merits based on friendship, popularity and ass-licking (it has already start happening). Look at those whom are highly happy about this system are those whom have the power of merit allocation are been placed on their hands. Even if we know people whom are giving each other merits, they will still try to prove you wrong by saying that those they gave it to deserve it. I think the better way to have done this is, is for the admin to be the ones to allocated the merit and not fellow forum users. Even if it takes months to rank up through our merits; it is the best because you will know that you are thoroughly been judged or evaluated through what you contribute.  But with it been in the hands of fellow users; a user with excellent posts will take up to months if not years to rank up because some higher ranked members view the low ranks as nothing. If you think am wrong start up a new account and post high quality post to run this test.
