Is there a possibility to have a RECOMMENDATION MERIT THREAD?

I thought with help of that thread those high-quality post/topic will be recognized, by linking those meritable post here and give a brief explanation why should given a merit on that post.

Some of us doesn't have an ability to give a merit right now but we can help our fellow member to commend a quality post. However, no one shall recommend his/her own post and that thread were specific for post recommendation only then let those kind hearted members to validate your suggestions.

There's quite a few from people offering to give merit if people suggest their own posts to be reviewed. That isn't exactly what you have in mind so why not start your own thread?

And if possible to have within each local section.

There are a number of people giving away merits to other new members. You can quote your posts and apply there. As per your suggestion, you can add the quotes of another member as well. As the main purpose of the thread is to reward members with quality contributions. Nice to see a member thinking about other members here as well even after so much competition.

I think the idea behind introducing the merit system is very, very sound.  There were so many ridiculous posts and some users were posting the same thing over and over in multiple threads just to pump up their post count. However, would you mind if I suggest one tweak to complement the system:

There are so many posts with good content that I appreciate, but since I was allocated just one merit at my rank, which I have already used, I am unable to give merit for those posts. Now, as I understand it, certain users are "merit sources" and can create merit. Given the volume of posts, it must be pretty time consuming for them to read all new posts and allocate merit to to the posts that deserve them. Perhaps in addition to merits, you could consider introducing something similar to the Facebook 'likes' system for all members to use,  to signal that post as a good one?

So say for example, there's a good post that deserves merit but I have no merit to give. I can at least leave a 'like' on that post instead. If a post accumulates 50 or 100  'likes'.. then maybe it could be flagged for a merit source, who can then read over the post and decide whether  or not to award it merit.
Sounds good to me, i think that's a really good idea that "like" system can go along with merit system and i totally agree that sometimes i see some posts (like yours) that i wanna smerit but got no points at all cause i gave it to another person or i got none cause i've been posting trash but it should affects only me not people that gives us a good content!

I dont really agree with "like" system. Dont you know that there are some "like" businesses going around for social media? And dont you know that people might make 100 account and just spam likes and then get free merits like your suggestion? It will bring chaos to this forum, merit is already a great thing to happen.

That's exactly why the system has been implemented the way it has. Any like system would be too easy for account farmers to abuse whereas the merit system only gives a supply of spendable merit to the sources who are all trusted.
Rather than put so much effort into trying to think up other systems maybe time would be better spent finding some good threads and getting involved in the conversations. That's the way to get Merit and then have sMerit to spend.

I completely get what you're saying and understand the flip-side to a "like" system. However if you re-read my post, all I suggested was a way for readers to highlight what they thought was a good post, (in my example, through likes but obviously there might be a better way to go...)  to those who have the ability to award merit. The onus then is on the "merit source" to decide if it's a shitpost with spam likes, or whether it deserves a merit.

And thank you for your suggestion, TheQuin, but I think that's exactly what I've tried to do: this is a good thread, and I've gotten involved in the conversation and tried to respectfully make a suggestion that addresses a problem that some users have highlighted Smiley

It would be interesting to see the statistics about post counts before adopting a Merit system and after. I guess it wouldn't be so surpising that post count is more or less the same.

I get what you're saying as well. I just don't think theymos is the kind to change the system he designed particularly when that would make it more susceptible to gaming by account farmers. I just think the best course of action for everyone, whether they like this system or not, is to try and get on with it rather than trying to change it.

I'm not the account farmer and i'm not trying to abuse the system ! I just want to have opportunity to smerit posts that i really like! I'm sure that i got some good posts but mostly they are in a local threads and they are read by newbies , jr members and members, almost all of them got no smerits so simply can't estimate any efforts!

Exactly as I said to neatworld I wasn't accusing you of that but pointing out that such a system would be gamed by them. Give it time and just use the forum for what it is intended and you'll get Merit.

this might end up causing something similar. posters will be throwing as much out as possible hoping they get some merit. if they don't then they'll start over again in another thread.

when ranking up was automated it didn't really matter what anyone wrote. though obviously something needed to be done i'm not looking forward to some of the morons out there attempting to be verbose to court the audience.

obviously if they still don't get anywhere i guess they'll eventually give up and go away but there'll always be waves of noobs thinking along the same lines.

With this attitude, it will not happen in 10 years also. Try to improve so that you can increase the chances. Also, be glad that you were able to achieve higher rank before the merit system was introduced.

Why do you need to rank up? Because of the campaigns? Is that the only reason why you are here? Instead of being disappointed you should be happy because when this merit system was implemented you are already at Sr rank unlike those who are stuck at lower rank and they have no choice but work with the system.

Beginners/newbies doesn't have any merits so don't expect to get merits from them when you answer their question.

There's quite a few from people offering to give merit if people suggest their own posts to be reviewed. That isn't exactly what you have in mind so why not start your own thread?
I don't know where to post it and I think this thread is fit for my queries.
Posting it on the Services section would be okay I see merit review threads there if not then just move it here in Meta. I'm thinking of making one myself in the future I still have a lot of smerits left to give out.

Personally I think this is a good system as it encourages higher quality posts and forces me to think harder to create unique posts that are value-adding so as to enrich the community.

Would you think even harder if there was an opportunity in receiving tokens from users for your posts deemed worthy of such? Envisioned is akin to how the Steem community rewards posters but on this forum paid directly from/directly to BCT users. <yes, I've seen your posts over on Steem, bud - try not to spend your to-date earnings of three cents all in one place  Tongue; my question is genuine in spite of the latter quasi-snideism>

Just face the facts.  Many of us will be stuck at our current rank for a long time, if not forever.  Stop complaining about the merit system because life isn't fair.  Otherwise, everyone would be rich.

I would think that most members should be able to rank up to member status (which is currently 10 merits as we should recognize) as long as they can draft intelligible posts.  You have already received 4 merits, so you only have 6 merits to go in order to be able to rank up to member status.   However, it does seem that the higher ranks may be a bit more challenging to achieve, and I suppose that was part of the intention behind the change in the system (in other words a feature rather than a bug), and yep, to get merit, members are going to need to attempt to create interesting and interactive posts in order to receive merit points from other members.

From newbie to member shouldn't be too hard.  Member to Full member is also do-able but might take longer than people like.  Beyond that, will take some serious ass kissing.  Maybe even require to go on a date with Theymos.

I have no problem with frank talk; however, there is something else that is underlying your word choice that is likely interfering with your thinking about this matter.... you see you called it "ass kissing," and sure, I have as many problems as the next guy regarding hierarchy and even dislike for peeps who abuse their authority, rank or position... but you don't necessarily need to consider the whole matter as ass kissing in order to be able to think more positively about the matter, which is merely an attempt to be civil to other people and to back up what you are saying, and if you are challenging things, then have facts and logic that back up your points.  Sometimes, even if some members do not like your facts and logic, other members may like what you say and decide to merit your post for any subjective reason, including that you might have caused them to think about a subject differently or that you were willing to say something that others would not say, so in the end, there are ways to get merits in this system, and furthermore, Theymos is not the ONLY one who gives out merits.

The ass kissing comment was a joke.  Ass kissing or begging won't earn anyone merits.  Theymos is the man of this forum.  He implemented the merit system and I think it is here to stay.  People just need to accept it.  It may seem unfair for the new accounts since they didn't get any grandfathered merits but life isn't fair.

Of course exaggeration, or word choice can have a variety of effects, including serving as a means to joke, but there can also be other inferences, besides joking that causes an impression (whether intended or not).

It seems that this whole merit system was meant to be implemented in a fair way and to approximate a kind of fair transition and to address some spamming and account farming issues, yet hindsight can be 20/20 too, and allow for analysis of ways that "it could have been" implemented more fairly.

Nonetheless, having said all of that, there is always going to be reluctancies in going back and redoing an implementation such as this, so most realistic remedies would be tweaking of the already implemented system, if any, and there may also be a considerable reluctance to tweak anything prior to allowing it to play out for a few months to see how smerits are deployed by status quo holders of smerits, by sources and by members who receive new smerits through from other members.

1) Self-Custody is a right.  There is no such thing as "non-custodial" or "un-hosted."  2) ESG, KYC & AML are attack-vectors on Bitcoin to be avoided or minimized.  3) How much alt (shit)coin diversification is necessary? if you are into Bitcoin, then 0%......if you cannot control your gambling, then perhaps limit your alt(shit)coin exposure to less than 10% of your bitcoin size...Put BTC here: bc1q49wt0ddnj07wzzp6z7affw9ven7fztyhevqu9k

+1 sM for having the prowess to pen grammatically correct long sentences of which, I'm sure, you stole the concept from me, first introduced in the spring of 1998 when texting a friend while horseback riding - me, not the friend, for he never told me to this day exactly what he was doing during said timeframe, but I digress - ... shit, I forgot what else I was gonna say ... perhaps not important.
