Hey, it's been quiet for some time in here... Let's bring the voting discussion back! Smiley

So do we have any practical ideas of reliable voting at all?

The whitepaper is very vague about it, no technical details about how this magical democracy will happen.

yes, joefox would like to have his own Nxt show that would be built on the Let's talk Bitcoin platform. He would talk with Ricky, Pin, me, devs, helpers from all over the world...

Then there would be 1 episode of Let's talk Bitcoin about Nxt.

Then there is a chance to be for 1 minute in every episode of the main show and present there our features to the audience, to the newbies. There is a lot of demythologisation we need to provide Smiley Here is the chance to speak directly to the 10.000 (+) crypto maniacs.

Yup, I'm developing a podcast.  First episode or two may just be me droning on, but it'll grow.  I have a list of "targets" for folks I'd love to interview, so many of you regulars should be expecting to hear from me!

Adam and I have traded email, and I'm keeping him posted as it all develops.  But this is all separate from the ads on LTB, which I think are an excellent idea.  As others have pointed out, the ad spots provide a long-term, consistent messaging platform for Nxt... and since LTB is (for now, at least) a podcast, the ads will stay in archived episodes and be of ongoing use.

Working title for the podcast, by the way, is "What's Up Nxt"  Wink

sounds great, do you have any schedule already when to start with this?

Ah, I see.
In my app messages are sent to the app Nxt ID. But if messages are sent between user Nxt IDs then, yes, we have a problem.

Well, in the spirit of simplicity we could agree that the first 4 bytes is a unique tag for each protocol/application.

Not sure how well such gentlemen agreement would be honored, though.
Another option would be to use kind of "client-server" architecture instead of "peer-to-peer".
I.e. users of an app send AMs (containing destination ID) to the app Nxt ID instead of sending AMs directly to destination ID.

Hey, guys and gals, I would be interested in representing NXT at the Texas Bitcoin Conference on March 5-6.  I am in the American South not very far away (relatively speaking) and just checked, I can get a round trip jet ticket to Austin for under $300 if I book soon.  The conference fee is $275 until the end of January, $325 starting in February.  If the devs/community could back me for $1000 (currently around 10K NXT), I volunteer to cover this.  I will kick in 20% of my annual vacation time from my day job.  I am an aerospace engineer in real life, one thing I know how to do is make concise, organized presentations of  complex topics...

http://texasbitcoinconference.com

Of course!

+1

+1

absolutely!

I am very gratified by this immediate community response, thank you.   So I am going into full-speed-ahead mode here.  Hell, I'll even cover the 10K NXT from my own stash as my contribution to the cause just so we don't get hung up here.

I propose to get listed as a speaker.  There seems to be a January 31 deadline for this.   I would propose to get in the Technical: Development, Implementation and Infrastructure speaker track.  For a twenty minute talk, you've got to have laser like focus.  My theme would be slide after slide: Bitcoin problem, NXT solution: currency distribution, blockchain bloat, PoW arms race, 51% attack, block confirmation speed (10 min vs 1 minute), transactions per second (1 currently / 7 max for BTC, 10,000 ultimate goal for NXT), etc. etc. etc.

Here's details.

I live in Austin. I can provide transportation  Smiley I'm not a native speaker, so I don't feel I'm able to represent Nxt, but I can help. Meet in airport, drive to conference etc.

Thanks for the offer.  I'll rent a car with my airline miles accumulated from previous biz travels and get a cheap hotel, but I would love to have dinner with you if that works out.  I'll be in touch.

Re-posting my Public Service Announcement:

If you are new to Nxt and don't want to read through 1249 pages of posts, come to the wiki:
- Learn about Nxt
- Get started
- get basic questions answered in the FAQ and common problems pages
- Learn how to set up a public node on a VPS
- read up on the Nxt high-level API, which you can use to build apps, games, clients, utilities, and more
- find additional resources for programmers, including suggested methods for handling transactions, a PHP library, and more.
- check out the current draft version of the Nxt whitepaper, which is being built and refined by top community contributors (it's still rough, but there's lots of great content already)

Also remember there are great forums with lots of info and support for beginners. Many of the best Nxt wiki articles are based on information originally contributed here:
- The nxtcrypto.org forum
- The nextcoin.org forum

Wiki contributors pull information from these threads every day to keep the wiki up to date. You can also help contribute, or translate.

This thread is long and daunting for new folks, and most of the conversation here is not helpful for beginners.  So don't get frustrated -- come to the places where new folks are welcomed and pampered!

Sound nice. Wiki is a really great place for new nxter with multi-language support.

Grin Years ago I was on a team to launch a space experiment to the Russian Space Station Mir and during my stay in Star City near Moscow I learned to love bliny.  I also learned to fear vodka.

My favorite sipping drink Gentleman Jack is only 80 proof (40% alcohol) - practically lemonade compared to a good Russian vodka!

There will be a conference fund.

We will provide graphic elements and maybe a short video. Now buy a ticket and concentrate only on a submission. Smiley

So, voting.

- The only thing we can reliably use is the total amount of money, but that is bad, because for some decisions this will be very undemocratic.
- We can't apply any "compressor" function to the wealth, because people will split into multiple accounts.
- We can't vote by accounts because they are cheap to create.
- We can't use PoW or Turing tests, because it's impractical and stupid (solving 30 captchas?). Can also be circumvented by paying cheap labor to do it.
- We can't use passport chips with challenge, because they are too rare.
- Maybe we could use what Bitcoin is trying to do with passports and zero-knowledge proof, but probably not until they actually implemented it.
- We can't use iris scans, because of privacy concerns and practical difficulties.

Come on, brilliant minds in here, think! What can we do?
