Well we are waiting for it on the mainnet. I guess we should expect it in a week or two? They have said early August.
We shall see an insane spike on interest here. If it were up to me I'd make a small portion (but important one) closed source, to prevent copies.  Wink

Thankfully it isn't up to you.  Cheesy
So what you're saying it is better if we have hundreds of copies of DRK?
Smart one.

Bitcoin mining is now a specialized and very risky industry, just like gold mining. Amateur miners are unlikely to make much money, and may even lose money. Bitcoin is much more than just mining, though!

You can't trust proprietary code. You might be clueless enough to, but the rest of the world wants to see the source.

It's pretty much open sourced anyway, any competent developer could take the flowcharts and diagrams that have been released and re-engineer it. The shitclone 'devs' are just too lazy and talentless, they can make good enough money promoting their poop-de-jour.

edit: and when it's open sourced, good luck to anyone trying to copy and paste one thousand Masternodes.

Why not? Its an open sourced world out there... look at all the shitcoins in existence. And then look a t Doge... Anything can happen.
But like thelonecrouton said and very well... I'd like to see how they'd clone thousands of Masternodes in the process.

EDIT: lool, the man himself beat me to it...  Wink

Correct me if I'm wrong, but wouldn't the depressed initial price of a new anon shitcoin make it easy to set up thousands of masternodes shortly after (or even before) launching?

It would. The game theory component of DarkSend is actually better suited for large-marketcap coins than new clone coins which can be bought off for peanuts.

The higher the marketcap of the coin, the better the disincentive to acquire a large number of nodes => better anon.

http://www.coindesk.com/argentina-most-likely-adopt-bitcoin/

dunno if you guys read this but heres our bit ;-)....
For example, one may believe that bitcoin does not have as much immediate potential in the international remittances market as compared to its use as an alternative investment vehicle or store of value. Or one may feel that Darkcoin is going to supplant bitcoin as the preferred cryptocurrency in the black market and that therefore the size of the informal economy in each country is not a significant factor in bitcoin adoption. Such scenarios can be incorporated into alternative calculations of the BMOI by removing the corresponding variables and or adjusting weights.

DS+ in RC4 is working very well on testnet. Just a few minor UI niggles to tidy up.

As for the competition, all the bytecoin clones have big issues and the rest are pure vapourware.

Darkcoin works.  Smiley

Agreed. Perhaps some confidence was lost after RC3, but that slight loss in confidence will be compensated by epic new features in RC4. I wouldn't be surprised if we surpassed $100m cap. Also the failure of other anonymous coins the past weeks will work in our advantage.

Which anonymous coins failed in the past weeks? I've been out of the loop for a bit...

On another note, I think its good for Darkcoin's reputaion that the mintpal hacker chose DRK for his coin of choice. It proves the perception that DRK is both profitable and anonymous. I also like how simple news updates from developers on features that are not even out yet raise the coins value slightly. Its happend three times to bring it out of the .008s. I wonder what will happen when its not just news, but an actual release that launches with no bugs...

Another Coindesk plug for Darkcoin as bitcoins supplant  Grin

Personally, I don't think any of the PoS coins have legitimacy. They're just pump and dump.

This is just a sound bite... Total number of DRK mined per day from MP's is not effecting the price...

Trading is what effects price.  DRK is consistently one of the highest traded coins on the market.

There is no war. They are very different. You can own both.  Cool

PoS has legitimacy until a real ASIC proof algo is invented. Even then, the all mighty bitcoin may one day become PoS when all the coins are mined some say.

And when Cloak gets a big update after DRK's next surge, DRK will be sold to buy Cloak again. Rinse, repeat. Hookers and blow don't pay for themselves ya know.  Cool
