I'm not knocking anyone, I've tried design work - it's hard, it takes bloody ages, and I'm bad at it, but of these three the clear winner to me is the original... the whole gold/black thing looks tacky and the last one looks like a headless duck. IMHO.

Your site would look far better in either colour scheme if you

replaced "Anonymous / Rare / Valuable" with "Secure / Private  / For Everyone," lost the current pics underneath those words or replaced them with something more human,

got rid of the headless dude and the giant card thing in the middle,

and had fewer words. Have some dropdowns or something with all the technical crap in them.

edit: I like the eclipse thing going on at the bottom of the black/gold version, but don't overdo it.

think most here would agree that the technological achievements of Darkcoin are FAR AHEAD of the coin's marketing. I think most will also agree with LimLims that such activity needs a dedicated professional person.

I therefore propose the following - from the next fork, X% of the masternodes proceeds will go into a dedicated multi-sig wallet that will pay a salary to a dedicated full-time professional marketing person.

Hopefully, in time, the price of darkcoin will go up, this fund will be able to employ more than one person, and thus also pay the developers, webmaster, etc.
imho, the time has come to become less bootstrap and more professional.

I love this idea! But I'd like to expand on it, I think it would be better to go into the bounty fund and that fund would be much more generic. For example, we just needed an icon designed, now we need a website, color scheme, etc. As the price grows, the size of things we need to get done grows just as much. Next we'll need to setup a foundation, retain an attorney to help with legal matters, etc.

I propose 1/10 of the masternode payments go toward a bounty fund for generic uses.

If the price goes to $5, that will be $1296 per day, which should be enough for a full marketing budget, the foundation, a retained lawyer and maybe on office for the foundation?

As an idea it sounds good, but in reality it's negative. Memorycoin2 has something like this (not exactly, but similar idea), and most people would agree that this is one of the reasons why the coin is not doing well. People didn't like, it didn't work as expected.

Again, I like the idea in theory, but I don't think it will work well, so my advice is against implementing this.

The best way to do this, donations/crowfunding for specific tasks. In crypto they normally work well.

try to accept that most people who are looking/willing to invest in it already know about it.. don't drag the solo dev into more of these games of deciding how professional a webpage needs to look.. you know what will surely get 1000x more hits than a shiny logo or a webpage, if he finishes darksend.. as opposed to using his time coming up with hairbrained schemes like an airdrop or opting % of the coin into a lawyer fund (wtf)..

Saying it's bullshit. Unnecessary. Etc.

Marketing, (visual) communication, is at the top of the commercial age we're living today. Absolutely everything around you depends of it. It litterally hold the keys of billions people brains and is a true social science.

Giving you a better idea of the power of design and communication, Apple Inc is ranked #1 marketcap above all international corporations.

Apple is running ahead Oil companies, above Google and pharmaceuticals giants, above JP Morgan and Goldman Sachs. But what makes this company so successful and special ? It is very simple. Apple is well known for focusing a lot on design and communication. Spending ridiculous amount of money and efforts for making a simple package. And it works. Simple classy and elegant. That's the equation. Right under your eyes.

I am not able to see your life, your deeds. Not even your ages and your faces. When it comes to the internet we have to deal with its inherent anarchy. It is not easy for me as I'm used to hierarchy and teams.

A lot of people here definitely lack understanding of the world we are living here. Let the marketers do their job. The cryptocurrency market is still primitive and every opportunity is possible now.

The more I think about it, the more this idea makes sense. If Darkcoin will be a niche product because of branding, why not fill the other niche ourselves before others do, with a "light"-branded sister coin?

New publicity-friendly name, fair launch, focus on privacy. Let Darkcoin be the testbed and bring across any changes when it's stable. We're in a unique position to capture the subset of the market that are choosing not to invest in Darkcoin because of its branding, because we can implement darksend before it's open source (that is, if Evan gives the ok). I don't see that there's much to lose with this strategy. We can be sure that others will do exactly this once Darkcoin goes open source, so why not capture that market now, in a way that lets existing Darkcoin investors get in early and mitigate their risks?

Lims, we talked a little while you were setting up as the marketing guy. Just to be frank and honest, this is a terrible thought and you are just feeding these distractions about branding and marketing when the name and/or logo will have absolutely NO impact on the success or failure of the coin. Brands build themselves, lots of people talk shit about doing X,Y,Z to create a brand. But in the end, it needs to do what it says it does.

Apple died until is launched a new mac with round edges and see through plastic painted a shade of pastel crap.  It was no more technically advanced. People were simply paying for brand coolness.  Apple also made the iPhone off the back of white headphones that gave people a way to link themselves to cool brand identity when they purchased an iPod.

Apple is all about making products look good and giving users a way to associate with that cool by just buying their stuff. It did use to have innovation inside too, but it really took existing ideas and made them look better and gave them better form factor.

13MH gets me about 10 DRK/day, so your 280s would be about 6-7MH? So roughly 5-6 DRK/day or something like that. Diff varies wildly so it's hard to be more precise.

i just think there's a much greater need for the community to build services around darkcoin and for evan to finish darksend before going off on wild tangents than for more marketing.. we've had 750 pages of marketing already.. it's time to give it a rest until we have more substance
