... Then why not buy at market instead until equilibriation? Seems like a good opportunity to me. I suppose someone will ![Wink](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/wink.gif) p.s.: what is the break even price, if you'd so kindly ![Smiley](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/smiley.gif) This assumes a zero value attached to the heat produced in the mining process. If its -30 C outside the economics are somewhat different.

Most people that are currently mining XMR are doing so at a loss (electricity costs exceed revenue). The only logical explanation on what they do with the XMR they mine is that they hold the XMR, in expectations that it will increase in value.
I can say this because I'm a miner also.
Bolded an important word. There are definitely miners who either do not pay for electricity or are using other's.

I have been CPU mining Monero since May 2014 on a cloudatcost VPS that I paid $35 for (one-time fee). I also have a 280x GPU rig with 5 cards in my company's warehouse that was originally built to mine Litecoin. I don't pay the electricity, but it's out in the open and everyone knows what it's doing. In a place like this, that miner's electricity usage is a drop in the ocean. I have never sold any of my mined Monero. I don't intend to for a long while.

Yes, of course ![Smiley](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/smiley.gif) There are also miners utilizing optimized software to get a much better hashrate than their competition (us). And there are miners out there that also pay extremely little for electricity. But it all comes down to the fact that mining XMR is less profitable than mining WhirlpoolX or X11. So of course, they are either holding the XMR or they are dumb and dumping the XMR while they could be mining on NiceHash and making 35-55% more.

I am thinking about putting another 10BTC on XMR yet i also want to wait for a nice big dump....What do? ![Cheesy](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/cheesy.gif) The nice big dumps already happened, when we went to 0.001. Given decreasing emission and increasing awareness/usability/demand, we may not revisit those lows. If you could go back to 2011, would you really care about paying $1.50 vs $1 for Bitcoins? Don't try to pick up pennies in front of bulldozers, unless you are a pro day trader watching the markets like a hawk.

As I said before that video is archived to be played at all future XMR order-of-magnitude parties. Maybe if we are lucky we'll get some more to add to the playlist.

Bolded an important word. There are definitely miners who either do not pay for electricity or are using other's. It is possible to mine XMR at a profit while paying for electricity, and no I'm not talking about anything exotic like a secret optimized miner, just the obvious reality of differing costs, etc.

If monero ever makes it to the mainstream that dump video will be a legend that dwarfs the 100,000 dollar bitcoin pizzas. People will watch that and go, omg he just dumped a billion dollars at the absolute low. People will be unable to fathom that kind of money and they will watch him wash it down the drain at the bottom of the bottom. They will want to scream and pull out their eyes if they have an empathetic bone in their body. Oh and the guy who made this video, we will finally learn who it was via a confession in his suicide note.
