What's all this about 24 words.  It's 25 on my system.

yeah, new version is 25. Old is 24. Those instructions for the tinfoilhat paper wallet are old, but still apply - only difference is # of words. (or its the other way around - regardless, they are compatible - if you upgrade, you can tell it to spit out the seed and bam you get the correct one)

and yes, if you're making a fresh wallet in simplewallet, you can open it on mymonero.com by using the 25 words

The one extra word was added as a checksum to guard against typos, etc.

snip

For the sake of clarity. Can you simply log into mymonero using a 24 word seed that you generated with your simplewallet and get access to the same "account" (for lack of a better term) on mymonero that you were using on simplewallet?

I've been trying this with some accounts (4 exactly) and they are reporting zero balance... There definitely was moneros in them. Is anyone else able to succesfully import an account to mymonero with the seed?

EDIT: I have tried importing the transactions for an account as well, which is not succeeding. Sent 10 xmr as per the instructions twice over 2 days. Again, anyone having success with this?

(Sorry for the off-topic. It just seemed to be what people we're discussing here at the time.)

Man, at this point, just try importing them into your own client and rescanning the blockchain yourself. We will be here to help you with any problems you have. (though you may want to take that over to another thread, just drop me a link and ill come over)

how can i create an monero papaerwallet, without download anything?

mymonero.com -> create new account -> login -> account -> account details

write down or print out Account Address (Public), View Key (Private), Spend Key (Private)

I just ran through it and tried it - very slick.

Am not as tech savvy as most and I'm on Mac.  I don't feel at home on anything using a terminal window (much prefer a GUI type wallet) but this is helpful.

Means I don't keep too much on Polo, Bittrex etc.

Going to cold store a few - might as well, I am a long way off selling - been buying since day 1 on Polo.

Fwiw - I only have holdings in BTC, XMR and a few handfuls of XCP.

I recommend to do the same with the coins I do (I do it because I think it is good for the coin).
Buy coins from exchange and withdraw them outside of the exchange.
Also some bitcoins are handy to keep in the exchange in case zhalox decides to dump some more Moneros.

Forget the coins for few years and let's see what is the market in 2018-2020... I think it is higher than today (or Monero has died).  Grin

Who is this zhalox ? Is he this person : https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=9380 ?

Why would he want to hurt Monero ? He seems to like XMR.

He is most likely a supporter of XMR but he has way too weak and shaky hands. It is better to buy his coins now than later when the price is higher.
Monero needs super-strong hands who are not dumping coins, in my opinion.

By the way, dumping a coin is the stupidest thing to do IMO. Argument is simple: if you dump 10 000 coins, you get, let's say 29 btc. On the other hand, if you put 500 coins sell walls 20 times slowly slowly (like you feed a baby) to the markets, you will get - let's say 30.5 BTC. So this case you lose 1.5 btc and that's the cost of dumping. If you feel like selling, don't dump but put some sell orders to the markets instead. You get more money and you are not destroying nice charts.

Please do make sure you test the method before adding any substantial amount. I cant say that i have personally tried it.

Also idk how you came to the decision to buy xmr if you are not tech savvy, but you sure do have a heck of an intuition!

Warz pawned zhalox by buying his wall when he flashed it. 11k or so. There's a link to the trollbox around here somewhere. I think it was at 28 or so.

I am neither a tech savy and I am not sure if I have better intuition than people in general. I invested into XMR because Risto invested. I guess I try to follow people with money and intuition.  Grin
I have lurked Risto's business since late 2007 when he did not have a castle but home based business and some kind of used car rental company.

I too checked out Risto's post and found XMR by chance. I read up on it further and it seemed like an amazing technology. I liked Risto's wise realization that Monero 2014 is like Bitcoin in 2010.

I.e. if one has a paper wallet using the 24 word seed, do we need to move those funds?

Monero is a good coin but its outdated imo. We are heading towards a path that requires much more than this project can offer.
best of luck

Mods, please bear with me, but I would actually like to give fearcoka about 10 lines to tell about Shadowcash distribution. The subject fascinates me and doing it right is the most important thing I seek in a coin (team is second, tech is third and availability of a wallet is a bonus).

Mods are just deleting every criticism against this coin, they just deleted my comment again wtf, heres what you need to know about Shadow(scam)cash distribution: http://pastebin.com/S7aKCDgy

They also invented what i call the shadowcrap-dilemma:

1) To make a PoS Network "secure" you need to have nearly all wallets staking.
2) To make Ringsignatures "secure" you need all people to use them, always.
3) But you can't stake the tokens they use for anonymity, so being private and having a secured pos network can never be happen at the same time.

This is a typical example of getting fucked by your own greed.

Wrong on all 3 counts I believe

When you open an old wallet in the new version of simplewallet (0.8.8.6+ i think), it update the deprecated wallet file will give you the new 25 word seed.

I read through that chat and wondered who the buyer was (wasn't clear to me).
Man, that is a lesson. Now, perhaps zhalox can dump some and try to buy in later, but there seems to be money laying in wait. Better to not take the chance
but I bet someone is pissed - I mean he gave up 11k without really moving the market. LOL

YOWSERS

*edit* i see someone else caught that one too ^

*edit2* Assuming that was all one single order, and i think that is a safe assumption, does anyone know how much monero was purchased in that order? roughly?
