A "Martingale" is a failure betting fallacy, and a casino can only hope for players so stupid. It will result in a player going bust far quicker than the casino.

I can believe this.  I played over a thousand rolls this past week alone in the 50% bracket. I always start out with .05 BTC, and I've gone on  7x losing streaks (Lose .05 -> .10 -> .20 -> .40 -> .80 -> 1.60 -> 3.20) about a half dozen times. However, after looking at my trade history, I've NEVER gone beyond 5 straight wins, ever. 50% my ass.

You are welcome to verify each and every bet using the verification method described on the site.  Smarter people than me can tell you why that's legitimate.

I also welcome you to do a scan of the 50% bets that have ever occurred, and see if the results are significantly off from what they should be.

I'm not trying to belittle your pain, I feel you. Lost lots of money on the Sex and the City slot machines in vegas last week Sad  (true story)

Yeah that's just me talking out my ass because I hit a string of bad luck.  1K trades is probably too small a sample to get a realistic idea of how the cookie is crumbling.  Time to play some more and report back!

But 1000 bets should be enough to get at least one run of 5 wins in a row.

Incidentally, there had been 203928 winning bets and 204356 losing bets on "lessthan 32768" last time I counted.  That's 49.948% of them winning, which is really pretty close to 50%.

I believe you can select secrets that appear to have a lean, my own simulations definitely suggest this is possible.

Its as simple as generating secret, generating each result for the last 10 million bet txid and working out the distribution.
If numbers are on average higher than 32768 then its a keeper, if the number is not then you generate another and repeat until you do get a secret that leans the resulting hash the way you want.

Given that the SatoshiDice game you simply have to get a number lower than the number bet on it is easy to take advantage of this.
It does seem if you use a map that spreads out the results (ie even numbers win) it seems it is harder/ impossible to achieve.

Were a bitcoin casino to do this Id still argue that it is not cheating as it is not guaranteed, eg you may have a string of txid's that all pull low results despite the secrets lean.

I wonder if there could be a Satoshi Dice game where the casino destroys a portion of the coins it earns, thus increasing the $ value of the coins in its pocket.

Destroying part of your assets never increases your net worth.

you also would have problems with transparency and showing people how you are "destroying" the coins and not just keeping them.

There's no private key for public key 0, so sending coins directly to that public key would mean they were destroyed.

It's strange that the subhuman hordes never seem to figure this out. How hard can it be, seriously?

Quote
One of the strangest freaks of this meeting, was an address to a collection of Democrats by Alexander Ming, Jr. He forgot all about the object of the meeting, and being a strong Bentonian, launched out into the currency question, attributing all the evils of the Republic, past, present, and to come, to the issue of bank notes; and advising his hearers to refuse to take the trash altogether, and receive nothing but specie. This was the more comical, as not one out of ten of the poor wretches he addressed had the chance to refuse either. Half starving, they would have been glad to receive anything in the shape of money that would help them through the hard winter. Yet when Mr. Ming offered a resolution, proposing a memorial to the Legislature, requiring a law to be passed, forbidding any bank to issue a note under the denomination of a hundred dollars, the deluded people, who had been listening with gaping mouths, rent the air with acclamations. It was a curious exhibition of the wisdom of the sovereign people this verdict of a ragged mob on the currency question. They were so delighted with this lucid exposition of the cause of the scarcity of flour, that they seized the orator bodily, and elevating him on their shoulders, bore him across the street to Tammany Hall, where something beside specie was received from behind the bar to reward their devotion.

That's from the Flour Riots of 1837, yet another attempt by "the people" to improve market conditions by commodity destruction.

There are quite a few dice sites, but many of them try to do things different, and just end up to be more complex and unfamiliar for me to try.

Also many of them have TINY max bets, I'm talking about 1-10 BTC max bets, which is a joke.

Then there's the other concern of unknown operator, versus Eric who is well known around here.

How come there aren't like... five million copycat sites of this yet?  All I can think of is BTCDice and it doesn't even seem to work?
I think because it actually is harder to get it right than it seems. You need a deep understanding of the bitcoin protocol as most of the stuff you have to do is beyond the capabilites of the standard client. Besides BTCDice if I remember correctly I think there were one or two additional 1:1 copies that also went down quickly. And SDice will have forever the first-mover advantage, so any 1:1 copy will have a very hard time.

If you want to compete with SDice you have to differentiate, not just copy (which is what I am trying with bitbattle.me Wink).

Actually I don't think there's much of a first mover advantage, if a site copied SDice exactly (actually I prefer the old SDice interface, so copy that please), with a well known operator, has reasonable max bet (minimum 200 BTC at the top), and a slightly less house edge (like 1.7%). I'd switch to the new site in a heart beat.

Why not send them to Satoshi's address then they would really be satoshi dice.

Reducing the house edge, even down to something like 1.7%, adds significant new volatility risk for the house. Combine it with high max bets, and the house is liable to go bankrupt unless it has a very large bankroll.

There is one which is not a copy but an extrapolation based upon the basic principles of SD. The win cap is low because it has had only limited action and the code was maturing and the operator is an old forum member. I'm not saying what it is to avoid the shameless plug...

I saw a tweet yesterday that SealsWithClubs was under DDoS... perhaps some bastard is attacking SD as well.

Joke is on them, since people don't really need the site at all to play Smiley  Bets are processing fine. I just won a couple bucks from myself.
