I keep playing with bfgminer 5.5.0 and my antminers, but it does not appear to be stable.  After 10-15 minutes I get a segmentation fault.

Tried 5.4.2 & 5.5.0 via gentoo distribution, and a hand compiled 5.5.0.  All behave the same.

Any suggestions?
Run it in gdb and/or valgrind and report a backtrace.

The Bitcoin software, network, and concept is called "Bitcoin" with a capitalized "B". Bitcoin currency units are called "bitcoins" with a lowercase "b" -- this is often abbreviated BTC.

Got pulled away from the coin I was working with.  Sorry.

I am trying a new coin and have a new error:

Code:
 [2018-08-19 05:47:33] /usr/bin/bfgminer: --coinbase-addr: Invalid address

Invoked using: /usr/bin/bfgminer -S antminer:all -o $POOL -u $WORKER -p $PASS $OPT --coinbase-addr=rM4Z7VR2YjjDs9iC4GcLtwtnwtyW1Lqx7Y

A "getaccountaddress" from the new coin's linux wallet is reporting that address, so I would think it is valid...

Any thoughts?

Refresh RPC time calls (60 seconds in bfgminer 5.4.2)

you call CreateNewBlock (): every 60 seconds, where can I change this time in the source code, for example to 20 seconds or 5 seconds?
where is the line in source code? thanks.

Hello can someone please confirm my understanding of the setup I use is correct?

I'm about to do lottery solomining using USB Block Erupter.

My setup is following:

1. Laptop, running Bitcoin Core full node
2. separate RPi, running BFGMINER mining thru Bitcoin Core on the laptop and also operating as stratum proxy.
(the coinbase address I want to get potential reward is given by --generate-to option)

now two of my friends want to do lottery mining as well so I thought they can use my node. That's the reason I enabled stratum proxy with --stratum-port in bfgminer. (on RPi)

Is my understanding right they can now use their own BFGMINER connect to my stratum and if they use their own --generate-to address their reward goes to them automatically?
I'm quite confused as I was trying to simulate I'm one of my friends - started another instance of BFGMINER on a remote PC and connected to my startum. It works well but even if I don't specify
any address with --generate-to. If that machine would find a block where the reward goes?

thanks for clarification

ok, i'm a new guy to ubuntu.  i'm trying to download and install bfgminer, but all sources related to ubuntu are problematic.  i'm using synaptic for finding and installing programs but when i try to follow the installed programs list, i am having trouble locating an executable file of any sort to run the program.  so i've used synaptic to uninstall and reinstall the program a couple times and anything that has looked like an executable file i've clicked and bfg hasn't started yet.  i've gone to youtube, help.ubuntu.com/community/ExternalGuides, google, and i'm not getting the software to run.

First tell us which version you are running. If you are running a LTS version (which you should, as non LTS Ubuntu is beta quality at best) that is 16.04 or 18.04, there is a PPA provided by LukeJr.

Remove any bfgminer you might have installed using synaptic, then all you have to do is add this PPA and install the package. The instructions would be as follows (in a terminal):

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:luke-jr/bfgminer
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install bfgminer

Then you can run bfgminer at any time from the terminal.

Well that falls into bfgminer's thread, but you should read the included readme or check it online before asking questions there.

A quick glimpse seems to indicate you are supposed to run like it this:

bfgminer -o http://pool:port -u username -p password

Do read the documentation for further details.

Hi All,

Does anyone know how to set BFGMiners extranonce2_size to be 4 or is 2 hard coded?

I'm using --stratum-port:9332 and this is working. When I connect to the server I get:

'Subscribed! extranonce1=ff extranonce2=8a76 extranonce2_size=2'

However when I connect to antpool I get:

'Subscribed! extranonce1=4a000200 extranonce2=b0743a6f extranonce2_size=4'

I'd prefer BFGMiners extranonce2_size to be 4. I've upgraded bitcoind to 0.18.0 in case extranonce2 was set their, but no change or improvement noticed.

Thank you.
James.
