It surely is a dent in their reputation, that while on it's own may not warrant an exclusion, if it is a lesser case, but may be the grain of rice that tips the scale against them.. If it is found that they plagiarized 100 posts then totally, exclude them.. If everyone removes them, their feedback will not be visible.
And a high chance of being scammed for newbie will arise.
Lastly, DT are processed mostly to protect newbie.
IMO, upholding the quality/reputation of BTCT users in high positions of trust/power, that are supposed to be role models, supposed to be people to look up to, is more important than trying to protect newbies at all costs.. Protecting newbies is not an effective counter for acting poorly. It does not excuse you from bad decisions just because you might protect some newbie.. |

They would be dead AF sleeping outside.. 2 just died in a tent winter before last like 2 miles from me, they were stupid to even try it.. AFAIK they weren't even addicts or anything.. I actually stayed in a homeless shelter for a couple weeks one time because I didn't want to leave the city I was living in, a nice city.. Enough time for me to get paid from my job and find a room to rent. It was a grand adventure I do not regret.. Their were not druggies there, they were in jail, but a few were ex-addicts out of rehab and such, but mostly just weirdos that didn't want to work.. Let them live like that and they will live like that and more will come to live like that.. They need to be arrested always so they aren't just free to live like that.. If you leave stagnant water outside it will soon be green with algae, full of bacteria, and have mosquitoes breeding in it.. So if you don't want mosquitoes then don't leave crap around with water sitting in it.. Hence, we are still trying to MAGA and will be until all of these liberal addict enabling strongholds are overturned.. I'm not allowed to merit such a thread? Objectively it took effort to create regardless of whether it is right or wrong, and that's how merit should be used. Don't use your morality and nepotism to pollute the system. Attempting to use the IRS as a weapon, via a which hunt, against someone and doxing are very distasteful to me. One minute merit is for constructive posts, the next it is for "took effort", the next it is a like button, the next it is an agree button, and then it's for something interesting, whatever.. We all know it is for good posts that you support most of the time no matter what you want to call it and supporting bad actions is not good in my view, or cryptohunter would have a million merits for all that effort, so I have also taken note of and mentioned supporters, like Theymos has.. I was disgusted by the reckless and vicious doxing in this case, where:
- The evidence was very thin.
- Even if all of the allegations were true, it'd likely result only in civil penalties, not criminal.
- The whole thing was motivated merely by past arguments. OgNasty never caused Vod to even lose anything, as far as I know. An utterly ridiculous & disproportionate escalation.
- It's based on the premise that purely statutory crimes are directly unethical, which I don't agree with at all, though I'm willing to mostly look past this as subjective.
It's good that Vod came to his senses on this after the fact, though doing it at all certainly blemishes his reputation in my mind, and I added to my notes the fact that those users merited such a post. Meriting it is saying basically that we need more posts like this on the forum, and we do not need more posts like this on the forum.
Red-trusting Vod over this is an appropriate usage of red-trust, since his actions here are highly trust-relevant. But I tend to think that since he edited his post and seems to genuinely regret at least the public doxxing part, it'd be best to forgive.
For the meriters, I can understand the argument for red-trust, but I tend to think that it's at the wrong level. If the meriter was meriting it because they were actively thinking, "I want to make the forum really vicious, where everyone is constantly tearing each other apart for stupid things, and this post moves in that direction," even that's not really a trust-relevant motive, just a very unhelpful motive. And probably the meriters were thinking more innocent things than that.
Couldn't have said it any better myself.. So far I have not yet decided to employ the trust system in this case but it has crossed my mind as well, and I am not finished thinking about it.. I am quite off-put by this doxing and reporting to the IRS, by the perpetrator and also, but to a somewhat lesser extent, the supporters of these actions, as I have noted in my recent posts.. No not really.. He thinks he has discovered in some convoluted way which he may may not have paid taxes correctly in his opinion. I didn't see any commentary from any tax experts or tax documents.. I completely understand the importance of citizens paying their taxes, but I feel that we're almost to the point of being victimized by the IRS and the state internal revenue services and other taxes like those for property, sales tax, and probably more taxes than I can think of. Thus if I uncovered some tax evasion activity being done by any member here, I think I would just remain silent--but as I said, I have mixed feelings and am somewhat conflicted.

I have held great respect for Vod for years also but he is going crazy over this spat with OG to the point to where he is attacking him with the US IRS over forum drama.. Sicking the IRS on a fellow crypto user is low and dirty.. I feel it could be very damaging to this community if we are all running around calling the feds on eachother for whatever "evidence" we can construe to get their attention.. I took the time to go through your links to be sure I haven't missed anything, which I seem to have not.. If you really want to have your mind blown... theymos actually told me NOT to remove the negative feedback rating I left for Lauda.  I pressured several people to remove inappropriate, unconstructive ratings amongst each other. When OgNasty replied telling me that he perceived real trust issues with Lauda, I responded: If this is what you believe, then you shouldn't remove the rating, but then it wouldn't be fair for me to pressure Lauda to remove ratings against you. Personally, I find Lauda's history gray, not red. And the trust system is only going to work if there's some level of forgiveness and de-escalation. But if you really believe that Lauda isn't safe to deal with, then you should leave the rating.
Then there was an exchange between OgNasty and Lauda in which Lauda kept a laudably  cool head, and OgNasty was able to reach a point where he could feel OK removing the rating. The ratings did all end up being removed, which I'm happy with, and I appreciate the willingness to de-escalate and forgive from the people involved in this case. The fact that this issue came up at all indicates that the trust system isn't working perfectly (and I am considering future system changes), but it's still a good outcome. This is your massive lie? Weak sauce.. Let's talk again when you get charged
