I have gone for a couple of point spreads for the two games tonight, it's not something
I have done in the past but the two home teams, Stormers and Ulster are big favourites with
very low odds, the only question is by how many points will they win?

Stormers -11.5 @ 1.63
Ulster -26.5 @ 1.72

Other tournaments on the Rugby Union side are back up and running too, The English
Premiership and the French Top14. I'm following them currently though.
2002  Other / Politics & Society / Re: 1 in 4 americans are skipping thanksgiving in 2022 to save money on: November 25, 2022, 07:20:19 AM
They just know that it's better to skip it than to force themselves to spend on an occasion that can still be celebrated even without lots of food on the table. Well, they can still buy some normal food and be thankful for everything anyway and keep their spending at the minimum while still being able to celebrate thanksgiving. Everything costs too much right now that it's understandable if a lot of people won't follow traditions. It's not required or anything after all.

I guess Thanksgiving like Christmas here it can be both an expensive and pressurising time.
The pressure of keeping up a tradition and the expense of buying into that tradition. These
celebrations have become highly commercialised and they can be kept as simple as you
want .... or as complicated as you make them.
2003  Economy / Economics / Re: Will central banks ultimately fail in their goal of lowering down inflation? on: November 24, 2022, 10:13:14 PM
I am 100% percent sure that inflation will drop way down under 3%.

Just not sure when. Grin

I think it generally takes something like 18 months for the effects of raising interest rates
to take full effect in the goal of reducing inflation.

It's the boom to bust tactics which works for increasing and reducing inflation. Central
banks are raising interest rates in various increments, when the they cripple a lot of
people and recession takes hold and inflation drops they will start reducing interest rates
to stimulate growth and the cycle starts again.

So no central banks will not fail.

2005  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Craig Wright's lawsuit against Kraken on: November 24, 2022, 07:06:44 PM
I don’t know what he’s trying to achieve

Wright has a couple of wealthy people who are funding him.  Their understanding of Bitcoin is extremely limited and mostly comes via Wright.  They believe these lawsuits have a chance of success, they're paying wright millions of UKP a year and covering his costs because they hope to get a windfall at the end.

So Wright just needs to keep the show going and he'll get paid as long as he does.

Don't underestimate the power of conmen.

Can't wait for the day when they cop on to all this nonsense, maybe when the house of cards
really starts to fall will they realise their errors in backing CSW's very thin claims centering around
being Satoshi. It's just a matter of time.

https://twitter.com/itswillmack/status/1594667376020267010

He's demanding they stop using the word Bitcoin to refer to Bitcoin and that they pay him billions of dollars in damages. (The particulars of claim is the interesting document)

Seems like he’s seeing some of his funding start to dry up and is now throwing Hail Mary lawsuits at people hoping to be able to get something. His claim is utterly ridiculous and I think it won’t go anywhere but you never know when it comes to the legal system. I’ve seen dumber things be allowed to progress as lawsuits. Hopefully this one is over quickly.

Yes but it's up to the Kraken team to make sure the "legal system" are educated. Look at
the Hodlonaut trial, his team did a great job of discrediting CSW's arguments.

and speaking of injuries, this could also be a factor in Djokovic' performance and
journey in 2023. An injury could prove a massive enemy to him.

We could see good progress for Thiem in 2023, he still has a lot to offer and yea Zverev
will be only starting his journey back from a big a sense.
More young players are in the competence. So, we can't have something strong to determine a particular person to be the lead throughout the year. Same as what we experienced this year, we can see more unexpected progress from players. This makes the matches scheduled during the year 2023 more interesting.

As mentioned, injuries were a big enemy when it comes to sportsman. Maybe he could compete with rest between series, participating only on the popular ones.

Don't forget, 2022 was seriously messed up in terms of Djokovic' season which was caused
by his COVID-19 vaccine beliefs. With bans being removed for 2023 the season should return to
being "normal".

He is the only remaining "Top 3" player able to compete over all the grand slams so I am
banking on him overtaking Nadal's record and over a 5 set match there are very few who
will be able to compete with him.

I'm hoping for Thiem to have a good year this 2022, unfortunately he hasn't been coming back, not sure if the level of tennis and gotten up, or if he is not yet ready for the big crowd mentally.

As for Zverev, yeah he has Covid, but who doesn't in the last 2 years? we have recovered already so I doubt that he won't get back to his form next month. But for me Djokovic will come back strong next year, for sure he has this in his mind because of some drama in him specially around the Australian Open tournament. But next year, he is clear to go so I expect him to bounce back hard.

I think there is definitely room for Thiem to be a threat to most players, after all he did play at
the same time as the "Top 3" but he needs to get back to his best in 2023.
2007  Economy / Collectibles / Re: How do you store your physical crypto collectibles? on: November 23, 2022, 07:37:40 PM
It's cool to display the items.
According to articles I've read about coin display, several parameters must be considered into account:

1. Security: locked lockers, armored glass, Using jumbo screws to hang frames/shelves or cabinets. In favor of docking., etc.

2. Lighting - direct light may damage the quality of the coin/banknote. Natural lighting causes increased humidity which can cause a process of "excessive sweating" in the capsule that keeps the item—especially items with holograms.

So, in conclusion, there are items that are indeed nice to see daily or to show off to close friends. Still, the delicate items that require increased security or certain conditions are worth putting in a shady, locked place. And it is definitely worth using moisture-absorbing devices in these places for optimal and long-term preservation of your unique items.

I hope this helped someone Smiley

QB

Yes for printed material like books, magazines, notes and prints direct UV light and
possibly indirect light will fade and discolour the material.

I store all my printed items in acid free Black paper and card which in turn gets put
into an airtight grip sealed bag and stored ot out direct sunlight.

Rugby Union

URC

So after the Autumn Internationals the United Rugby Championship starts back up again,
this weekend is round 8 with the games listed below:

I'm gonna make a few bets, only made 1 choice already, I'm going against my home team
with Munster to win, they will have a full strength team and Connacht look like losing
Mack Hansen to an injury, that's a big loss for Connacht, he has done so well so far with club
and country.

2011  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Is gambling unethical? on: November 22, 2022, 12:43:19 PM
I think the OP is suffering from a religious dilemma rather than ethics.

If a religion forbids gambling and the member of that religion continues to do it, they
have to come to terms with what they are doing.

The way I see religion v gambling is as a member of a religion you are obligated or forced
to follow rules, gambling is a choice.

~snip

Who are going to be his main competitors for each grand slam? Alcaraz, Medvedev, Nadal,
Rune . . . anyone else?

looking at those mentioned, Alcaraz is only one that can disrupt him next year, if he is fit
Medvedev does not stand a chance, Rune won was accidental, and Nadal is pretty close to career end (probably looking to one more RG and nothing more)

from not mentioned, I would count on Zverev, when he is back playing, others are pointing that tennis is a bit in crisis at the moment, there is no much fresh blood

Ah yes, Zverev - I so wasn't factoring him into the mix at all. Yes he is definitely another
who could trouble Djokovic.

I know it's hard to count Rune, I suppose he only came good towards the end of the season
after making a name for himself earlier in the year. He will have to prove himself early on
in 2023, the same with Felix AA.

An easy win today for djokovic against casper Ruud he looked so dominant all tournament long, there no doubt he is the best performer at the moment he has beaten all the top players, too bad nadal didn't made it far so we could see the novak nadal classic.
Novak Djokovic won in the direct sets 7-5 6-3 which looks like the first set going closer. In the second set Ruud have given up. An easy win for Novak Djokovic and he once again proved he's the lead with the 6th ATP Finals Crown.

Like i said yesterday this would be the easiest match for Novak Djokovic and it was. He won easily in straight sets against Ruud that wasnt even close to a break point in this match. Ruud still was in the final and that is a huge result. Novak Djokovic can now rest up and focus on Australian open that is in over 1 month.

And as I said earlier, Djokovic' 2023 season has already started. He is for sure going
to make up in 2023 for lost ground in 2022.

Who are going to be his main competitors for each grand slam? Alcaraz, Medvedev, Nadal,
Rune . . . anyone else?

There were other awards celebrated:

Best coach of the year
Best Women's breakthrough player
Best Mens breakthrough player (which went to an Italian player, which is nice to see)

And other awards for Rugby 7's, best try, referee etc.

2015  Other / Off-topic / Re: Lay off vs Pay cut on: November 21, 2022, 07:22:17 AM
It's still lose to lose situation.
- First option is you can't get money anymore until you get new job, seeking out new jobs would be really difficult during recession and without any prior experience in their jobs then it's thinned out the chance of getting a new jobs for some of the new or even experienced workers during that day.
- Pay cut is just depends where you live, if you can live with the pay cut then you can bear with it until the situation is normal or until you get a new job. But with same working conditions and same amount of tasks? Some people would be not interested with that.

Still would prefer to get pay cut instead of lay off especially during recession.

Generally speaking this would be the case. Being made redundant in these times would
not be ideal as it would be hard to find a job, likewise taking a pay cut would not be ideal
either, that would render the person financially unstable.

In the case of being made redundant - there are some people who would be able to benefit
from a redundancy payoff, if the person could clear existing debts it might be beneficial,
or maybe the person took a complete change in their living and "downsized" their life, made
it simpler and minimise the exposure to this financial system of boom and bust.

I would opt for Redundancy over pay cut because I would try the above!

Although Novak was complaining of not feeling well early in the first set....are they just mind games?
He already looked unwell against Medvedev, Likewise, when played against Fritz looked so tired, but wasn't sure what he was going through.
He was already leading in the second set there was no doubt he would win this match and lift the trophy to close the year very weill.

Well whatever was wrong it didn't have too much of an affect on him at all, he win that
second set quite easy really. The only player who can seriously challenge him was
Medvedev, he was the only one who took a set from him!

I don't think I'll be backing Ruud in the near future, as Trofo suggests it's hard to see anything
extraordinary in his game.
2017  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: A reminder about the media on: November 20, 2022, 07:37:41 PM
The media have to sell their products and they need to sensationalise their cover story
especially when it comes to Bitcoin and crypto. The only ones who will be influenced by
these are the same game who will react negatively to the markets. Bitcoiners won't be
affected by what the media report.
2018  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Tennis League All Thread on: November 20, 2022, 07:17:10 PM
Well Trofo, Novak has the first set and I see what you mean about Ruud. He is very level
headed and doesn't seem to do anything exceptionally great. I suppose we could call him
Steady!

I think your bet is safe, mine....not so sure.
Although Novak was complaining of not feeling well early in the first set....are they just mind games?

I watched the key moments in the Đoković - Fritz match - Đoković's mental strength showed how important it is once again.
Fritz had an advantage in the 1st tie-break, and served for the 2nd set. The result? He lost 2-0.

Đoković will be a big favorite tonight - Ruud is without a set won in their 3 matches so far.

I had a -3.5 handicap on Djokovic, I now realise I should have gone with Fritz, hindsight
is 20/20 vision of course. I have gone for Ruud in the final +4.5 @ 1.59. I think Djokovic will
win but hopefully it will be a close 2 set affair.
