2521  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Do You Eject Your Hardware Wallet Before Disconnecting It from Your Computer? on: July 11, 2021, 12:22:03 PM
Like most of the other users in here, I've never ejected my hardware wallet safely, prior to unplugging it...
- While I'm at it, I've never done that when it comes to USBs as well [I do know about the issues that may arise but personally, I've never encountered one].

Update:
I guess you like to live dangerously like this bad boy.

You just made my day Cheesy
2522  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2021-07-08] The search for HDD worth $378 million at the landfill will continue on: July 11, 2021, 10:59:09 AM
Oh, imagine one thing, they go there, they find the disk, they can't get the data and that's it, they give up. But...it's not really that disk, just one of the same model thrown by somebody else and the real one was just one meter below what they've found! Great ending for a movie, isn't it?
Exactly, but if what he claimed in that article is true, then we can safely rule out that part:

We have a system with multiple conveyer-belts, X-ray scanning devices and an AI scanning device that would be trained to recognise items that are a similar size and density to the hard drive.

I don't know if he throw it away on purpose or just accidentally
~Snipped~
Research said that he throw it away when the price was around $9 and now he wants to take it from where it was landed
Based on "this" article, it was a mistake:

Code:
James said: "I had two identical hard drives and I threw out the wrong one.
  • Am I the only one who's not buying that excuse [especially with his background]?

although he said with the help of all the hedge funds this might cover the entire expenses.
Just a single hedge fund.
2523  Economy / Lending / Re: Looking for .05 BTC - 1 BTC Loan on: July 11, 2021, 09:04:46 AM
Planning on buying a car and renting a house and need the cash to get a job.
By the look of things, you're moving out for the first time with no savings. Am I right?

As far as I know collateral based loans can be any type of collateral.
Not in here...

  • It can be a contract, a verbal agreement, or anything of the like.
That "might" only work if either they know you in person or you're a well-known/trusted figure in the community and even then, most would probably refuse to give out loans of that extent.

Go to any nearest bankof you and offer such a collateral then check which answer they provide.
From where I am, such requests are automatically ignored by the banks [even with the verification part].
2524  Other / Meta / Re: Where's the new forum Theymos? on: July 11, 2021, 06:55:52 AM
I'm confident that if Theymos really wanted to upgrade bitcointalk he could easily do so in a much shorter time period.
That's correct but it doesn't make sense to introduce it before it has passed all of its tests [it'll be a workaround that might introduce other problems as opposed to a solution].

I'm pretty sure he'd have all the coders he'd need, because if that were the bottleneck there would be tons of members stepping up to help.
The last time I checked, he was the only one [not sure if that's still the case], and in regards to the latter part, I don't think it's that easy to hire a coder/programmer/developer without ulterior motives.

without an explanation as to why that's the case
Am I completely missing something?
Here you go: Link

The things blocking a transition from the current software to the new software are:
 - There hasn't been enough testing. I think that immediately after transition, a variety of small missed features, bugs, and performance issues would crop up. As a result, if the transition happened now (which is technically possible!), I'd expect the post-transition user experience to be poor for months while these things are fixed, which I don't want.
 - I am the only bitcointalk.org sysadmin and on-demand programmer, and I'm used to the current software. Furthermore, I need to frequently make changes to the current software, but each change I make might require alterations to Epochtalk, which is problematic.
 - The current PHP software, while ugly and sub-optimal in many ways, performs well, especially since I have extensively modified the backend to add features and improve performance. So I don't feel much urgency.
 - The data-transition procedure still has a few known minor bugs.

2525  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Steve Wozniak Calls Bitcoin a "Miracle," Says It's Better Than Gold on: July 10, 2021, 08:49:06 AM
He also believes that this index currency is more valuable than gold.
Despite having a positive stance towards BTCitcoin, I don't think that's a fair comparison [both of them belong to a different category].

By the way, Steve Wozniak has become known to the crypto community in 2018 when he fell for a cheap trick and lost as many as 7 BTC,
And yet for some reason, he lied Roll Eyes

“Gold is limited and you have to look for it. Bitcoin is the most amazing mathematical miracle. I do not invest in Bitcoin, but I believe in it for the future.”

In other words, "Bitcoin is a miracle, but I have something even better."
Exactly, this is nothing but just an attention-grabbing headline!
2526  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Fake Account Seller - Colires - Telegram @COLIRESTHELASTONE on: July 10, 2021, 07:15:50 AM
This guy colires is scamming by selling fake finance accounts, he scammed me for 350$ for revolut account.
You should provide some sort of evidence when you're accusing someone and use "this format" to edit/update your post.
- Without proof, this is a false accusation.

My bad but i checked just now, so many people flagged that account but still no negative trust?
Apart from one of the withdrawn flags [by @DireWolfM14], all of the remaining flags are "inactive" and they happen to be given by a bunch of scammers [except for the one you've given recently].
- You might want to read the following thread: Trust flags
2527  Economy / Lending / Re: im not a charity case. thanks on: July 10, 2021, 05:54:28 AM
so it was stolen. I don't have full coverages cuz I paid 1k for it 2years ago.
If that's "really" the case, then I'm sorry to hear that your car didn't have comprehensive insurance to cover that part.
- Your car may have been gone for a day or two, but that doesn't mean forever.

My stay at this hotel ends on the 12th,
I thought it was supposed to end on the "7th".

I don't have family.
How about friends?

I could use someone's input on what's the best  direction to go from my position. Idk what to do anymore.
AFAIK, "CNC Machinists" usually earn a good salary and some even receive their paychecks on a bi-weekly basis; since that's not enough, try to work overtime or find a second job.
- If you can, try to ask at your job if they could provide you with a place to sleep [temporarily].

Like what others have already mentioned, I don't think anyone from here would be able to help you.
2528  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Is there a place to auction domain names for bitcoin? on: July 10, 2021, 04:14:39 AM
Have you tried to sell on https://www.namesilo.com/ or https://www.namecheap.com/?

You can list your domain for sale there. As they accept bitcoin as payment, I think they will allow you to sell for bitcoin as well (need to confirm, as I never sold a domain in those websites)
Unfortunately, Namecheap doesn't allow you to withdraw funds in BTCitcoin [link] and when it comes to NameSilo, it's somehow complicated; there's a table [link] that is missing BTCitcoin as payout method but on that exact same page, there's also the following line:
- Not sure which one is the outdated one.

Payouts via either Account Funds, PayPal, Bitcoin or Wire Transfer are available either immediately or 7 days after payment receipt based upon the sale method of payment
2529  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: EURO 2020 England vs Italy - Poll ⚽ on: July 09, 2021, 02:26:54 PM
Italy haven't lost in how many games? Isn't it closing in on 30 games now?
Their unbeaten run has extended to 33 matches so far [27 wins and 6 draws].

Personally, I'd prefer England to win it but despite playing in Wembley, I have a strong feeling that Italy would come out as winners [collectively, they play smarter].
- I'm expecting a draw in regular time [both teams to score] and Italy winning it in penalties.
2530  Economy / Services / Re: Any twitter influencer here? Payment in BTC on: July 09, 2021, 11:54:52 AM
Not sure if an influencer has already contacted you on telegram [you forgot to list @Royse777] and since most of them don't have accounts or rarely visit the forum, I wanted to help so I took the first ten from "this" list [based on its views] and eliminated two of them [the other remaining 62 influencers might have a presence in Twitter as well].

- Based on my observation, they'd prefer to be contacted through their emails [it's listed in the about section of their YT channels].
- The following influencers have a fluctuating amount of replies and retweets in their tweets [might come in handy].

@Bitboy_Crypto [446.4K]
@TheCryptoLark [409.7K]
@AltcoinDailyio [378.4K]
@TheMoonCarl [372.7K]
@coinbureau [263.8K]
@intocryptoverse [203.3K]
@CryptosR_Us [93.3K]
@Nicholas_Merten [93.2K]

Update:
Thanks a lot, buddy. I have already forwarded that to my client.
You're very welcome Smiley
2531  Other / Archival / Re: user Febl self-vouching with alt on: July 09, 2021, 08:48:29 AM
I don't think that it's enough evidence though
You might want to check the following things as well:

  • Febl: Registered on "June 15, 2021".

  • HajV: Registered on "June 16, 2021".
    • Sent similar feedback to both "Febl" and "Asoil" on the exact same day [2021-07-07].
      • Asoil: Registered on "June 15, 2021".
        • On that exact same day, Asoil received that exact feedback from "Farj1" as well [SS].
          • Farj1: Registered on "June 16, 2021".

  • Wenav: Registered on "June 15, 2021".

I strongly believe that bump wasn't a coincidence and apart from the other two that "colires" reported, the above three [HajV, Asoil, and Farj1] are also part of the "self-vouching" issue.
2532  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2021-07-06] Swiss UBS Warning: Reg crackdowns could pop crypto markets bubble on: July 09, 2021, 07:07:38 AM
To an extent, they do have a point but I have a strong feeling that there's an ulterior motive behind that UBS warning [especially since it came from a bank of some sort].

Amen to that!
2533  Local / Pilipinas / Re: Monitoring Bitcoin Transaction Fees on: July 09, 2021, 05:53:37 AM

napipilitan kase tayo na gumamit ng ibang network because of the fees, nakakapanghinayang kase.
Pwede rin gumamit ng mas mababang fee [kung hindi urgent] with free transaction accelerators [e.g. ViaBTC and AntPool].
2534  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Trezor selling screen protectors on: July 08, 2021, 04:03:34 PM
- Privacy Glass Protector costs 8.28 EUR and it is using polarized filter that prevents people from looking at your screen, and this is used for privacy.
In addition to that, it's also "shock and scratch resistant".

I think it is a good idea to add this screen protectors in hardware wallet by default, and not selling them in separate packages for people who purchased wallets before,
I agree but by doing that, they'll miss out on the opportunity to separately sell those for more.

Also that price is kind of ridiculous... considering that similar screens for 6" cellphone screens sell for considerably less.
You have a point and I'm guessing it might have to do with a single manufacturer creating these as opposed to a few that usually are responsible for the mobile markets [more competition = competitive prices].

The whole thing reminds me of the crap Ledger tried to pull with their over-priced hoodies and t-shirts. But, there is a market for everything. I wonder if they are still selling those!?
They're still selling those Cheesy

Personally, I would prefer to go with the cheaper route [DIY] instead.
2535  Economy / Exchanges / Re: UFC inks $175-million sponsorship deal with Crypto.com on: July 08, 2021, 01:32:20 PM
I wasn't expecting that the deal is this huge.
You have a point but I think it'll be paid in installments as opposed to paying that huge amount upfront [I could be wrong]. Regardless of how the structure of that deal is, IMO the huge amount that Crypto.com will pay is justified by the fact that they'll potentially open their doors to "625 million people" in comparison to the "10m+ users" that they already have [even a 10% conversion of that userbase would come out as a great deal].

Does anybody know if that deal will be paid directly in BTCitcoin?
2536  Economy / Scam Accusations / [Warning] CiggieWorld.com has fake website content + review on: July 08, 2021, 07:15:41 AM
What happened:
I was roaming around the "Goods" board until I stumbled upon the following "thread"... I felt it was posted by a shill of some sort, so I did some digging and I was right! In addition to that, on their website it says their online presence goes back to 2010 but that's also a lie.

No, you didn't... You purchased that domain two days ago:

Domain Name: ciggieworld.com

I have used them and have received my cigarettes.
Again, you have not and that's even faster than what you've claimed on your website:

2538  Economy / Currency exchange / Re: BITCOIN AVAILABLE FOR SALE @ 5% DISCOUNT on: July 08, 2021, 05:16:11 AM
the sale is available again for this week for only 3 BTC
Can you sign a message from any address that contains three BTCitcoins?
- Judging by your other threads, that shouldn't be an issue unless you're lying.
2539  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: ChangeTrade.net is a clone/rip-off + has plagiarized content on: July 07, 2021, 05:32:51 AM
She has been rip-off all her saving when the support form the company keep asking her to deposit more crypto currency if she want to withdraw the current some stranger deposited crypto currency at her account.

She was told to deposit more crypto currency with excuse of  Insurance payment, Confirmation of Wallet , Premium Account, Miscellaneous Forbidden Country etc excuses, one at a time when she requested for full withdrawal. All this seem never ending, till all her saving of 30K deprecated.
Sorry to hear that Sad
- Unfortunately, that's a popular tactic among scammers and she should've done more research before trusting a complete stranger on the internet.

Hope others can advise what are the ways that I can spread/report my daughter experience to avoid others from falling in such scam by aderadex.com  ?
In regards to spreading it further, you can try posting it on review sites [e.g. Trustpilot] as well.
- You might want to also add any type of proof that you have in here [make sure to blur/censor the sensitive parts].

For reporting such cases, you should "submit a ticket [abuse reports > fraud/phishing]" to their registrar [Namecheap].
- From what I've seen so far, some of the registrars do nothing when you present them all of the signs that a website is a fraud/scam [unfortunately], but they usually do something if a victim provides enough proof/details.
2540  Other / Meta / Re: Why do we still have options for MSN, YIM etc? on: July 07, 2021, 04:18:25 AM
the slots aren't restricted(as far as I know).
They're somewhat restricted:

  • The "AIM" field is limited to 16 characters only.
  • Both "ICQ and MSN" fields would get rid of the invalid links after you click the "change profile" button.
    • Before clicking the "change profile" button:

    • After clicking the "change profile" button:

you can still use it to put your contacts like telegram, Discord, LinkedIn, etc...
It'll show up a different link when you hover the cursor over those fields:

  • AIM result:

  • YIM result:
