1921  Other / Archival / Re: [LIST] Where to spend Bitcoin? on: October 30, 2021, 06:58:27 PM
Here are the services, mostly aggregators, where you can spend your bitcoins (or other cryptocurrency). Goods, services, entertainment, etc.
And a few more to add to that list:

The following lists might come in handy:

Note: I prefer to not vouch for any of the services/platforms that are listed in any of the above aggregators/lists.

On another note, it saddens me to see that OpenBazaar is still pretty much a dead platform.
Same here! AFAICS, they're not even trying to promote it in any way [that's been the case for a very long time].
1922  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2021-10-30] Blockchain technology can make micropayments finally functional on: October 30, 2021, 04:29:24 PM
I read that article twice and still couldn't figure out how it becomes "finally functional" when everything that the writer described, was already there in the past few years [and in some cases, a decade]!

Due to blockchain’s asymmetric encryption, the payer exposes only their public address when paying, which provides practically no information for someone who is looking to hack their wallets.
Depending on the type of wallet that's being used and also the inputs of the transaction, they could be exposing a lot more information than one might imagine!
1923  Other / Meta / Re: Application For Merit Source [Philippines Local Board] on: October 30, 2021, 02:32:39 PM
Dunno, maybe you are overthinking it, or setting standards way too high.
That used to be the case when theymos introduced the Merit system back in 2018, but after I returned from a short hiatus in 2019, I did lower my standards.

If you have troubles finding good posts that don't have enough merit, you might wanna check your board's most merited posts and topics via @DdmrDdmr Merit dashboard, so maybe you can find some good posts that can be used for application. It's set at the last ~8 months, but you can adjust it as you see fit.
Thank you for that suggestion... It helped in adding two more to my list [after I narrowed it down to the past couple of months], but it seems that the main issue is the activity on our local board [unfortunately].

@crwth
I forgot to mention in my previous post to update the first post with the new ones [might increase your chances of becoming one (assuming that theymos only checks the first post in such threads)].
- I've seen others have done it before while also adding a "changelog" at the bottom of the main post.
1924  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Lots of questions. Help me get up to speed on: October 30, 2021, 10:46:50 AM
1.) Does anyone even use the bitcoin q / core desktop app anymore?
I actually "started using it this month" Grin

but it seems that people favor "online clients" these days
Most of those users are probably newcomers and for the veteran users who still prefer using such wallets, it's a trade-off between security [+ a few other things] and convenience.

5.) Is it any more or less secure using online clients vs having the blockchain fully downloaded?
Online clients/web wallets are always less secure, but that doesn't mean the latter is completely risk-free [it depends on the situation]!

  • Here are a few more risks in addition to ETFbitcoin's comment:
    • Some of the web wallets are prone to having display bugs [e.g. zero amount is shown, despite viewing your funded address on explorers] that prevents you from using your funds!
    • If a hacker infiltrates their platform, there's a high chance that you'd lose your funds!
    • In some/most of the web wallets, you don't actually own any of the funds that you see in your wallet ["not your keys, not your coins"] and if something was to happen to their website [e.g. inaccessible], then you'd not be able to spend your funds on that moment.

I mostly tuned out of all latest updates, releases, security vulnerabilities since around 2015. Is there any news I should be up to speed on?
The following link might come in handy: Bitcoin Improvement Proposals [scroll down]
1925  Other / Meta / Re: Application For Merit Source [Philippines Local Board] on: October 30, 2021, 07:14:50 AM
Maybe it's time for Philippines board members to apply for merit source status.
That's been my plan for the past year or two [refer to my "Merit source application folder in this screenshot"], but I always had and still have a hard time finding ten posts that would fall under the "theymos's" criteria [that's probably also the case with other Filipino users].

Let me give fresh topics that I think are merit-worthy
Unfortunately, most of them doesn't fall under the following criterion:

  • 2. Collect TEN posts written in the last couple of months by other people that have not received nearly enough merit for how good they are, and post quotes for them all in a new Meta thread. The point of this is to demonstrate your ability to give out merit usefully.

and these are topics that are from this year.
One of them was from last year Tongue
1926  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Dust payments to my wallet what is he trying to do? on: October 29, 2021, 04:50:49 PM
1 of my wallets storaging some coins for years back in 2018

somebody has constantly been sending 0.33 cents to me what is he trying to do?
can somebody explain if i were to move coins out will those cents he sent me affect anything or is this all tracking purposes by someone
IIRC, we had a lot of "spam attacks [network overload/stress tests (due to various reasons) that led to higher transactions fees]" in 2017-2018... If you're still receiving such amounts in 2021, then you're probably dealing with what you and other users have been talking about [dusting attacks for tracking purposes].
1927  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Ledger Nano X Battery Pandemic on: October 29, 2021, 03:19:33 PM
- For white screen in the background when you enter your PIN code do nothing, becasue this is by design, and it's not an issue.
I wonder why they're not tackling the "OLED vulnerability problem [credit goes to "this" post]" with the use of LCD screens?
- AFAIK, there are still various LCD manufacturers and suppliers + they're cheaper as well [am I missing something?].

  • These countermeasures will be included in regular firmware updates for the Ledger Nano S and Ledger Nano X, scheduled for Q4 of 2019.
Am I correct in assuming that they've released that countermeasure "2 years" behind schedule? Shocked
1928  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: Russian TrickBot Gang Hacker Extradited to U.S. Charged with Cybercrime on: October 29, 2021, 11:59:44 AM
I'm sure some of us here are familiar with this malware as it leave a lot of footprints specially in crypto mining.
Surprisingly, this is the first time that I'm reading about that specific crypto-mining malware and I'm glad that the developer in question "might" face up to 60 years in prison, but unfortunately, that still not going to stop the spread unless every single one of the fraudsters from that group/gang are captured, before the affected devices are treated!

1929  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: My experience recovering funds after suffering a phishing scam on: October 29, 2021, 10:20:04 AM
but this post reads a bit as if it was an ad  Wink
Based on my findings, I have a strong feeling that might be the case here:

  • @greenmint first shared a simplified version of that experience on Aug, 27 [in the MetaMask community]:
  • After 50 days, he/she decided to share a detailed version of it in "another forum [archived]" and three days later, in here!

When someone suddenly shares such experiences with "those gaps", in most of the cases it's just an ad [I do know there's a small chance that I could be wrong] + @greenmint tends to ignore his/her posts and threads a few days after their creation [with a little exception for the first one (Seen 2 hours), since he/she at least visited that platform recently]:

1930  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: What's The Best Affiliate Program for A Crypto Site? on: October 29, 2021, 07:54:07 AM
Another one I'm considering has just 30-days cookie.
AFAIK, that's already considered as a good one... Most of the ones I've seen before offered less cookie time.

Which affiliate programs will you suggest?
The only thing I can think of it's missing from the suggestions is the affiliate programs from the gift card providers.
- List of gift card providers [IIRC, half of them had such programs].

they have now become an opportunity for scammers.
The same goes for Google ads [unfortunately].
1931  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Gamerall Skins on: October 28, 2021, 07:02:21 PM
which has a lot of positive reviews
It's quite easy to create fake positive reviews on almost all of the platforms [unfortunately]!
- Don't rely on those.

Is it necessary to verify my account in Gamerall to start trading?
It appears that there's no verification process for payment methods like BTCitcoin:

  • Depending on your payment choice we may need additional verifications.
  • What alternatives are there to verification procedure?
If you don't want any verification you can use some other payment options instead such as Paysafecard, Bitcoin, iDEAL, Sofort, Western Union, OneCard and some others (please check with our customers service on the full list).

If you know better alternatives, please don't hesitate to suggst it .
A few months back, I created a somewhat similar thread, and after @OmegaStarScream's suggestion, I tried "Skins.Cash"... Despite experiencing a slight issue [it was a mistake on my part], everything else was smooth.
Note: You might not be able to buy/sell some of the skins and I only used it once [do more research before using it].
1932  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Eckmar script reseller/scammer on: October 28, 2021, 01:56:20 PM
now "she is complaining" in Italian section.
But .... no one has changed email/password.... so both user ("the scammer" and "the hacker") are just using the same account Wink .
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5367979.msg58287877#msg58287877
@V4n3ss4 PMed me prior to creating that thread and despite changing his/her password earlier in the day, I'm not buying that excuse!
- According to "BPIP", there are no other signs that someone might've accessed it before, apart from the original owner.

  • Today at 10:26:10 AM - V4n3ss4 - password changed
1933  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: [Expose] Coinsephas.com Hype Project on: October 27, 2021, 06:30:50 PM
is made by probably a fake team
That lazy scammer didn't even bother to change the default pictures: Finsa demo theme

1934  Local / Pamilihan / Re: Additional Requirement from CoinsPh on: October 27, 2021, 04:13:31 PM
Thank you very much for the reply, SFR10.
You're very welcome Smiley

Is LBC okay din kaya like ang gagawin ko, mag cash-out ako around P20,000 every week?

I think remittances or LBC cost more transaction fees?
Sa pag kakaalam ko Php 10 pero Php 1,000 transaction.
Eto ang cash-out fees para sa "LBC Instant Peso Padala":
- Tulad ng sinabi mo, mas mura tlga ang "InstaPay".

1935  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2021-10-24] A Crypto Friendly Future For Australia, Senators Propose New Regula on: October 27, 2021, 03:06:52 PM
The Australian senate committee made 12 proposals to modify the current license and regulations over crypto assets, as well as the laws of taxation.
For those who might be interested in reading the 12 proposals/recommendations, you can refer to the following link: Conclusions and Recommendations

As it was stated by the chairman: “The market is asking for regulation, and we are responding while trying to avoid trampling on innovation.
I like the sound of that, but I don't think they can realistically achieve it [unfortunately].

You've repeated that link twice [this is the "correct" link].
1936  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: Reasons why opting for a cryptocurrency exchange aggregator is a good choice on: October 27, 2021, 11:18:25 AM
an exchange aggregator platform partners with multiple exchanges
~Snipped~
thanks to the amount of partners
If I were you, I would've not referred to them as your partner since you're just using their APIs.
- It doesn't matter if there are certain platforms out there that inappropriately use that term (at the end of the day, you're not their partner and they're not yours).

4) Do I have to go through a registration process?
You don’t have to sign up and pass verification to use the service, you can convert cryptocurrencies anonymously.
That's also incorrect! They're indirectly using "other services" through your platform and those exchanges could/might ask for various things:

1937  Economy / Collectibles / Re: Litecoin Foundation 18k Gold Ledger S on: October 27, 2021, 08:15:35 AM
I would love to get my hands on one of these wallets.
Even if you'd be overpaying for something that only costs almost 1/4th of the amount that they were charging it for [assuming that "this tweet" is accurate]?
- I do know we're talking about a limited edition product but at most [IMO], it should've been around $6k [50 percent markup + another 50 percent for being a limited edition].

I think it would be baller af to whip out your gold ledger to sign a transaction...
Wink
1938  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Pmalek’s Complete the Word Game and Get Merits on: October 26, 2021, 05:57:27 PM
Members of all other ranks can now participate and guess the remaining words! There are only a few left...
6.   _ _ n _ l _ _ y                       (one word, 8 letters)
6. Finality

Since I have a strong feeling that @Nathrixxx guessed the correct answer for number 8, am I correct to assume that you'd be adding a different set of words for Sr. members and above, on the third round? Smiley
1939  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2021-10-26] Mastercard and Bakkt Partner to Offer Innovative Crypto and Loyalty on: October 26, 2021, 04:04:55 PM
Do we know they will actually allow me to pay with my own bitcoin?
It appears that they would allow their users to pay with bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies:

It's not going to be one of these nonsense custodial systems like PayPal where I have to buy bitcoin in their system which I can only spend in their system and cannot deposit or withdraw?
Apart from what I said earlier, it's still pretty much the same [unfortunately]:

Any word about KYC requirements
I couldn't find anything but since we're dealing with US consumers here, then I expect it to be the worst/most complete KYC process.
1940  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: SNL had a skit where they said the Devil invented Bitcoin on: October 26, 2021, 02:28:50 PM
Amazing in 2021 a joke like that can be made. Shows you just how early we still are when SNL thinks saying Bitcoin is evil will ring true with people.
Personally, I see no issue with such "jokes"... I'm more amazed that there are certain users who have taken that joke seriously in 2021, and in regards to the latter part, I don't think that was the objective behind the joke in question!

they are really against to bitcoin that's why saying such bad things
It's just a "comedy show"!

I'd love to watch the skit but It seems that it is not posted on their youtube channel. you got any link/website where I could watch it?
