2041  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: n0nce's Steel Washer Backup jig (customisable) on: October 02, 2021, 08:35:21 PM
(tape holds washer in place)
Before starting the hammering, the mold that I have created has a small defect that I have not really been able to correct without adding anything external. And it is that when hammering the first character and extracting the moving part to do it in the second, the washer moves and the final result is quite bad. To fix this I use a little electrical tape, making the result look good by not moving the washer during the whole process.
Have you tried stamping it without any tape? I'm curious to know how it moves? Does it turn or it comes out slightly when you remove the moving part?
- Depending on the answer, I could help in finding a solution for each, but it would probably require modifying almost everything [if you want, I can provide the STL file on Monday (assuming that you still have some old filaments to spare)].
2042  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2021-10-01] Bitmain’s Jihan Wu discusses ‘next phase of growth’ post China on: October 02, 2021, 03:51:12 PM
However, on the subject of miners, entrepreneurs, and crypto traders leaving China, Wu noted that there was a group of people who might stay in crypto, even in China. He said,

“…(in a) very short time, the China retail investors will disappear…they will all retreat from crypto and only those high net-worth Chinese families will stay in crypto.”
I don't get it! How can Jihan include "miners" in that sentence while miners are no longer allowed to continue their operations? Am I missing something?
- The way that sentence was constructed, makes me think there's still a legal way to mine in China!

Another thing that caught my attention in that article, was about them [Bitmain] moving out [possibly to Indonesia and Malaysia]!
- AFAIK, there wasn't any ban against the manufacturers, as long as they'd refrain from accepting BTCitcoin and other cryptocurrency payments, so this is just a precaution [a costly one].

2043  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: New website to monitor CryptoCurrency Correlation. What do you think? on: October 02, 2021, 12:28:05 PM
Also we will be happy to show paid advertisements on CryptoCorrelator Grin
Out of curiosity, how much traffic [unique visitors] you're getting these days and where would the ad spaces be on your website?

Looks like you forgot to announce that you've "finally added the "widget" page Wink
- It would've been better if we had the ability to choose a "different" color for each of the backgrounds and lines + other variants.

Update:

Thank you for the stats and I'm looking forward to those updates Smiley
2044  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: El Salvador 🇸🇻 Mines First Bitcoin With Volcanic Energy 🌋 on: October 02, 2021, 10:18:36 AM
Really nice that he publishes so much information. He doesn't have to do this,
I wouldn't be so sure about that [most likely someone else prepares those stuff for him and all he does, is clicking a single button on his device]!

Stop with this volcanic energy !! Just stop, it's getting more annoying than doge memes.
And to rub salt into the wound, President Bukele used the following tag in his "tweet": #volcanode
- I'm not sure who came up with it first, but a lot of people have been using it in the past couple of days [it's annoying and it makes no sense].
2045  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: 🛠️ Bitcoin LightningATM on: October 02, 2021, 08:52:50 AM
Does anyone have a source for cheaply getting the case made in the US?

I went to my local guy who does plastic cutting and for a one off job the price was $75.
I would suggest contacting @MoparMiningLLC. He can "3D print" it for you and he's based in the US.
- Just to be clear, the $75 price was for "this design", am I right? If you have no problem with having little room for the installation part, then I would suggest designing your own case [assuming that you already know how or you're willing to learn] and reduce the overall design in half [based on the images, there are a lot of empty spaces] and that'd significantly reduce the cost of creating one.

contactless payments into the box in place of coins?
Since you mentioned before that you're doing this project as a hobby, then why not stick to the retro style/theme [the "coin acceptor" part is the only component that makes it different from the rest]?
2046  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: [List] Gift cards providers on: October 01, 2021, 05:11:35 PM
I used to buy 15$ cards from both Bitrefill and Coinsbee, but they're now gone, from both.
~Snipped~
I checked all the services listed, and none of them have Netflix GCs, so I'd appreciate it if someone could point me to a service that sells them.
You didn't mention its region, so I'm assuming that it's probably Netflix USA. If I was correct, then looks like the "Canadian version of Coincards" still has it in stock [I prefer to not vouch], and based on the following quote, you can use it in your account [in theory it should work, but I'm not a Netflix user]:

  • Redeem a Netflix gift card purchased in a different country
You can use a gift card purchased in a different country as long as the gift card is in the same currency as your Netflix bill.

Updated:
The thing is Canada and The USA use different currencies...
Yes, I do know that but I read the following Reddit post [a bit old so it might be outdated and I couldn't find that exact information on the Netflix website] last night and it said it's possible:

2047  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: The Bitcoin Machine on: October 01, 2021, 01:31:07 PM
I usually try to find official distributors for most products to make sure I get good genuine first-hand products. In the case of Raspberry Pi, you can select your location and find shops here.
Same here but at the moment, there's none on where I'm residing.
- Thank you for the link Smiley

It seems right now, Makerbright just has a 7 day lead time, not too bad. Maybe the others (which declare it as sold out) will be as fast, though. CanaKit also has some in stock if you get it as a 'starter kit' with SD card. And MicroCenter has it 'Available for In-Store Pickup Only'.
Not sure about the first two, but AFAIK MicroCenter is based in the US and I can't receive packages from there and despite knowing a few workarounds, I'd prefer to purchase it from a local reseller [unfortunately, that means an unofficial one] so I don't have to deal with customs here [they tend to ask for licenses if someone else already imports such items to the country (it's ridiculous and not worth the trouble)].

I don't know if it's possible to show Bitcoin blocks on display or only price and temperature, but github is showing it's very customizable so maybe it's possible.
It's possible [third image]: Bitcoin Machine LCD with Bitcoin and Satoshi Logo (ver 0.4)
2048  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: LithoSphere is a SCAM project on: October 01, 2021, 12:47:03 PM
1. They have done an airdrop, by providing clear rules
https://i.imgur.com/tmMkPu6.jpg
but the payment made by the team is only 2 Litho.
Where's the transaction link that shows they've underpaid you and others?

then for justification they made a post on twitter after many protested.
You might want to include a link to those complaints and the tweet in question!

a similar incident happened the same as in the Airdrop, the token value they had written was only rewarded for all bounty participants of 2 and 3 Litho only.
~Snipped~
but what the Bounty participants receive is very inhumane for someone who has helped, there is no proper reward.
I'm not sure why would you and others bother to work for an obvious scam that had the following rule from the beginning?
- I've already checked the "unedited version".

my current conclusion is that LithoSphere is a SCAM.
The same goes for most of the other shit coins and tokens [unfortunately].
2049  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Some of the major hacks in the history of Bitcoin/Cryptocurrencies (CHECK OUT) on: October 01, 2021, 07:53:36 AM
SO HOW CAN WE PREVENT ALL THESE HACKING (few tips)
~Snipped~
2. By double checking your wallet address before sending it to someone to ensure that it's correct, and money not sent to the wrong address.
Not sure if I'm missing something or not, but how does that prevent a hack from taking place?

SO HOW CAN WE PREVENT ALL THESE HACKING (few tips)
~Snipped~
3. By avoiding sending your wallet address to all this online forums, or Facebook groups which promises to do free Bitcoin giveaways.
They can't access your funds without having the private key [I believe that's what you meant to say, as opposed to an address].

SO HOW CAN WE PREVENT ALL THESE HACKING (few tips)
~Snipped~
4. By using only trusted web browser for accessing your crypto exchange and wallets, so as to ensure your privacy is safe.
When it comes to prevention, it's never a good idea to have a wallet that you access through web browsers [the reputation of the browser in question, does not matter since the whole act is quite risky].
2050  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2021-09-29] Swiss markets watchdog approves first crypto assets fund on: September 30, 2021, 09:29:54 PM
Now imagine if all the European countries had even 0.5% into Bitcoin, what that would do to existing supply!
If all of them do exactly the same as what the above crypto index fund in question does, then the answer is "nothing"! From what I've understood, it only tracks or rather mirrors the performances, as opposed to actually buying them:

Its also interesting how its only applicable to "qualified investors".
From what I've seen in the past few years, that's been the norm... First, they allow the ones that are at the top of the chain to invest, then they'll open it to other tiers.

2051  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: Regarding the topic of hacking crypto scammers on: September 30, 2021, 06:47:38 PM
I was contemplating the legality of launching DDoS attacks on scammer websites - not random scammer people on the internet, but just the websites of scam groups.

It is obviously a grey area, considering that the majority of agencies, institutions, and people classify DDoS as illegal - but that's DDoS'ing any website in general.
~Snipped~
What are your thoughts about these topics? (This is of course only a thought experiment and not anything I am going to do!)
AFAICS, the only way for it to become legal is if you've been authorized [e.g. by the government] to do it. Anything other than that would be considered illegal [it doesn't matter if you're targeting a scam website or not] and if they catch you while doing it, you would probably spend the next decade in prison [depending on where you are, you might get a lighter/heavier punishment].
- I can't think of a better example but in a way, if someone does that, it would look like without having the appropriate licenses, they've shot a criminal that had nothing to do with them!
2052  Economy / Web Wallets / Re: Experience with blockchain wallet (Balance stuck) on: September 30, 2021, 02:56:17 PM
I asked him to explore the address & he said he has balance with the addresses.
What this can be? Is it a bug?
In addition to the above suggestion, if your friend sees those addresses within the wallet, it has to be a bug but if the balance and addresses are missing within the wallet [only viewable/visible through an explorer], then your friend probably archived them by accident:

  • Archive: This option will archive the sub-wallet, so that none of its addresses or balance are included in your overall wallet balance or transaction history. You will still be able to see the sub-wallet listed under Settings > Wallets & Addresses. Click Unarchive to make its addresses and balance visible and usable again.

In regards to watch-only addresses, AFAICR, all of them had labels in that wallet. Did your friend had a similar experience while using the mobile app as well?
2053  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: The Bitcoin Machine on: September 30, 2021, 01:04:39 PM
Does anybody know if this is another US-based company or not [they haven't listed that information on their website]?
- As a last resort, I might go with such a thing if it doesn't ship from the US.

  • I had no luck in finding any of the Raspberry Pi models locally and I prefer to not order one [separately] from another country.
  • I couldn't find a reasonably priced VPS plan for running a full node.
  • I'm a bit paranoid about running Bitcoin Core on my desktop or laptop while using the same network connection.
    - Can someone convince me that I should stop worrying about its potential risks?

I agree with everybody that said it's overpriced but looks like we're forgetting about the normal [for the most part] markup percentages:

Update:
So it looks like they are in India.
Thank you, Dave Smiley
- I only used certain keywords to search on that page with a CTRL + F [I didn't expect it to be from India, I'm impressed with its overall design].

Most places seem to be out of stock on RPi units but all the places I looked at seem to have arrival dates of the next batch from early to mid October.
Give it a few weeks more due to the issues of shipping anything at the moment you should be able to have one in a month or so.
So that's why I couldn't find any of those locally [I would probably wait for another month to see if I could get my hands on one of these].
- Again, thank you for providing useful information, I appreciate it Smiley
2054  Other / Meta / Re: Creating فارسی (Persian) Sub-Board under Local Board on: September 30, 2021, 09:37:34 AM
As you know Perian is RTL, while it is a completely different language, Imagine both french and English are LTR, but they are different languages.
Yes, I do know that. Just to be clear, I never implied that Farsi is the same as the languages that are being used in the local sub-boards that I've linked previously!

I firmly believe by Creating a subboard for Persian, which may translate the role and also the other trending topic we can improve this from at all.
~Snipped~
By creating a subboard we can provide content and information in Persian and covering the problem they have with English speaking. And by providing facts we can transfer data that are correct.
You have a point, but you don't need a sub-board to kick-start that process [I do know sooner or later, it'll become a mess but AFAIK, no one has received special treatment when it comes to the creation of local boards].

~Snipped~
Surprisingly enough it only affects Farsi not Arabic.
~Snipped~
You're right... I don't know much about such stuff, but if I were to guess, I would say @theymos probably added a "BiDi support [bidirectional script support or something similar]" to the above local sub-boards in comparison to what Persian speaking users experience in their local thread [I could be wrong, so don't quote me on this one].

As a workaround, perhaps it's best to just use English "letters" to write in Farsi:

2055  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bangladesh may be approve bitcoin very soon according to ICT MINISTER on: September 29, 2021, 06:22:26 PM
His comments suggest that they are thinking of legalizing Bitcoin in Bangladesh.
~Snipped~
So it could go either way and despite enjoying what he said on his second point [finally, there's someone that works for the government without possessing a pea-sized brain], I have a feeling that it's not going to happen anytime soon [assuming that "this comment" is accurate].
2056  Economy / Collectibles / Re: ColdKey website is down. What's up with this project? on: September 29, 2021, 11:38:39 AM
To those with outstanding orders and other stuff, I just checked and it appears that @yogg came back on the 11th!
- Did he/she responded to any of your concerns privately?

I was a bit surprised to read the comments about delayed or unfunded items since I received the item that I won in one of his/her free raffles, quite fast.
- I'm not trying to defend @yogg [just stating the facts] and hopefully, everything gets sorted out soon.
2057  Other / Meta / Re: New feature suggestion: List all sale threads of members at one place on: September 29, 2021, 09:09:39 AM
"Show the last sale threads of this person."
~Snipped~
1)Member can find all his sale threads at one place. Can edit, change, lock or bump together saving time.
~Snipped~
What do you think about this feature ?
Instead of adding a new feature for that, it'd be better to just follow the rule [#30] that @LoyceV quoted [assuming that all of them belong to a single board] and only bump "a single" thread.

You can view all topics made by a user on one page: https://bitcointalk.org/gettopics.php?user=459836.
The only problem is that a member might not have only selling threads, so you might have to do some extra browsing to search through them.
Easy fix: add "For sale" to the title, use CTRL-F.
And for threads that don't have a proper label, they could narrow down the results by each board.

Add the following things at the end of the above link: &board=board number
e.g. List of topics on the "Invites & Accounts" sub-board
Code:
https://bitcointalk.org/gettopics.php?user=1341921&board=234.0
2058  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: CoinTelegraph's International sites? [Solved] on: September 29, 2021, 07:00:52 AM
Yes, it's the same thing is with the Serbian page. they added to the existing default domain, just adding prefix "rs", so there is active on https://rs.cointelegraph.com/
It looks like they've already ended the support for that version [it's missing from the language drop-down list on the main site], due to not having any recent articles but I'll add it to the list for the time being [thank you Smiley].

~Snipped~
they have many other websites here:
https://i.imgur.com/7WDjJrt.png
~Snipped~
Yes, @Potato Chips already commented about that part [I should've updated the list and the subject field yesterday (sorry, my bad... I'll do it now)].

I'll keep the thread open until tomorrow [in case anyone wants to add something else]...
2059  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Coinbase to Allow US Users to Deposit Paychecks Directly in Crypto. on: September 29, 2021, 05:47:23 AM
What happened to those services that supposedly allowed you to get your paycheck converted to Bitcoin regularly and links with your salary?
The only one that I could recall off the top of my head is "BitWage" and judging by most of the recent comments that it has received, it appears that it no longer offers a good/reliable service [e.g. delays and etc...]!

Nothing as far as I can tell, from my checking account to coinbase is a free transfer. No place did they say that by doing this are you going to get a better rate, or if they did say it I missed it.
On their "blog posts", they emphasized it by including it as one of the main headings ["zero-fee access to crypto"] and since the US is among the top 5 in regards to having the highest average monthly wages, then I automatically assumed there has to be a significant difference between the two.
- Thank you for clearing that up.
2060  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2021-09-25]South Korean Taxman to Be Granted Right to Search Crypto Tax Evaders on: September 28, 2021, 04:53:00 PM
Do you really expect the governments to give a tax rebate of $25,200 per year? And that too in Asia?
Since we're talking about a first-world country, then "yes" but I was wrong... I managed to find the answer to my own question, in another article from the same news outlet:

I have no idea about Slovenia and this is the first time I am hearing that they have such a high threshold.
You can refer to the following thread: Slovenian crypto tax proposition

I am OK with this threshold. $2,100 is not a small amount and it is enough for the part-time investors to avoid paying taxes on their profits from crypto.
You have a point, but how would you feel after reading the following parts as a crypto trader in South Korea?
