Let me put it this way: have you ever felt the urge to join a monastery or the Foreign Legion, or undergo a change of sex operation, after reading something that you posted the night before?

Oh, my; that was some heavy drinking right there, wasn't it? Grin

What is an OYUA?

Here you go: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/OUYA.

As for me, a decent PC would do. Tongue
2643  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Is the US press really that free? on: July 02, 2014, 04:55:18 AM
I agree that there are those few independent news networks like Democracy Now, but the problem is that very few people listen to them, and they have very, very little exposure. And I'm sure they may have trouble with revealing truly inflammatory material (like Snowden / Wiki-leaks level stuff).

It's true that they have very little exposure compared to mainstream news agencies, so they need not only our financial support, but also our support in spreading the word.

Then, a few of them have other interesting projects they are trying to carry out and which could help with that. Using the examples I gave: The Young Turks are attempting to call for a convention to get money out of politics with Wolf-Pac (www.wolf-pac.com); and the Real News Network is initiating debates in the city of Baltimore (where they are based) with a view to organize the population into having greater control over the management of the city, and eventually spreading that across the country.

I also very much agree that people are groomed to not ask any questions and sort of just roll with the status quo. It is almost like the big news sources like the New York Times realize that they are only posting things that their owners allow and want, but they won't do anything to change that. It's like that saying "don't rock the boat" - the people that accept all of the bullshit and corruption they see will rise quickly.

It's true there are those cases that you mention of people not wanting to "rock the boat", but those people at least "see the boat" for what it is. The point I was trying to make was the opposite: many don't see the bullshit and corruption because they accept it as being normal or at least a necessity for the way things work. In other words, they were brought up and educated with those views, so they don't even question it.

And the example I was trying to give with the presidents was the one that says that "despite all the flaws America might have, the intentions are always good and whatever errors might have been done are far outweighed by the rest. And who are those foreigners to judge an American president anyway?" sort or mentality, which is bullshit of course. Tongue

In the end it comes down to what is really worse - state control or corporate control? Is the press more useful in either case? or are they equally bad?

Why should the choices be limited to those two? As I said in response to another post, we have far more resources in the west (not for pretty reasons, but let's leave that aside for now), so we have far more possibilities than that. Start by spreading the word about alternative media to family, friends, coworkers, etc; donate if you can; and contribute directly if you'd like. Corporate controlled media might have the biggest share of viewers at the moment, but that can, and is changing.

EDIT: seems the site for wolf-pac is down at the moment; bad timing I guess. Smiley Anyway, if you go to the TYT youtube channel, you can see news of how things are going.

I will become a full member before pay day . I have a question how Stunna will pay me payment as a member or full member ? hope i will be rewarded as a full member Smiley

I'm in the same situation, as I should be promoted to Senior Member before the 17th, and as far as I know, people seem to have previously been paid the newest rank; so Full Member in your case. Just don't forget to update the signature on July 8. Smiley
2645  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Is the US press really that free? on: July 02, 2014, 04:08:55 AM
However un-free you think you are, Russia and China have it worse.

Yes, they are good examples of what not to follow, but let us not fall into the error of excusing what we have in the west because it could be worse; with the resources we have at our disposal, it should be better, a lot better than what it currently is.
2646  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Is the US press really that free? on: July 02, 2014, 04:03:26 AM
The press in the US is obviously not free, as practically everyone else in this thread already mentioned, and I believe mostly for the reasons previously stated: they are paid by people that have a vested interest in spreading their views. Now, there are exception to this, usually in the form of small, mostly online based companies, that don't receive state or corporate funding and rely on public donations instead. Examples are Democracy Now (http://www.democracynow.org/), The Young Turks (http://www.youtube.com/user/TheYoungTurks/featured), The Real News Network (http://therealnews.com/t2/), and so on.

However, I think a more interesting topic would be in what way a "good education" may influence this by limiting the spectrum of "acceptable" opinions. You see, in most cases, I don't believe there actually is anyone telling journalists and editors they can't report on something, or that they need to do so through a specific view; people are groomed to accept it. Then those that more easily rise through the ranks are those that have internalized those views.

As a practical "try it yourself at home" example, what if someone told you that every American president since the second world war ought to be brought before an international court and tried for war crimes? Tongue
2647  Other / Off-topic / Re: What Are Some of The Craziest Religions Out There? on: July 02, 2014, 02:08:39 AM
[...] Its about controling the masses, if you had nothing to live for past this life why should you obey the few?

Precisely; organized religion has always been little more than a form of population control preying on people's need to understand and control the world around them. I'd figure that as our understanding increases, people would stop relying on myths and legends for this, but I guess most people are still far from that point unfortunately.
2648  Other / Off-topic / Re: What Are Some of The Craziest Religions Out There? on: July 02, 2014, 01:13:47 AM
Christianity and Islam, these people actually believe there's an invisible man up in the sky watching us!

inb4 religious people rage Tongue

how is that more crazy than believing that humans are the most advanced lifeforms we know of? And they just appeared by a random process?

In my opinion it's much more plausible to believe the universe was created by a much more advanced being that is possibly outside of our 4 dimensions, which would equate to a god in all possible senses of the meaning god. Since he's outside of the dimension of time itself (and possibly created the very concept of time in the first place) it would not create a paradox of 'well how did god suddenly appear?'. God just always was, then he created all the concepts of 'speed of light', 'time', 'space', 'physics', and what not. He kind of created his own programming language so to speak, and within that language he wrote the universe into being. All the rules of physics (such as F=m*a and E=mc^2) are just part of the code, and every object is just an object written using the code.

I don't think that's too weird to believe, considering the alternatives.

Humans appeared in the sequence of about 4 billion years worth of evolution, and though the origins of life aren't yet completely understood, the evolution of species is not a random process.

Then, what you're basically doing is throwing the concept of god to the fringes of our current knowledge and saying that since this hasn't been understood yet, god must have done it. That is nothing more than a modern example of the god-of-the-gaps fallacy. All in all, you have a weird definition of the word "plausible", if you find that to be more logically sound and credible. And then, the real problem with that is, it really doesn't help us in any way whatsoever: it doesn't advance our understanding of the universe in any way, and it doesn't even allow us the chance to test it out directly, so science will just continue to fill in the gaps in our knowledge, while theories like those will just be forced to continually retreat, as they have for centuries.

I never watched any Anime, but i am open to try 1 of the best anime's you guys know!
So help me out watching my first good Anime, I would like a top 3 or something of the best anime's.
I know my friends are watching this stuff so maybe I can watch a cool 1 with your help.

It would be easier to make a recommendation if you share what you're into: sci-fi, comedy, historical, etc. Otherwise, even if people recommend something great, the type of which you don't like, you're not going to enjoy it.

@Ejaculation look at the total number of pages that this topic has.

Do you really think that this is not the longest and better paying campaign on Bitcointalk?
As well, have you seen the support of all the users that are posting here?  Wink

Most consistent and trustworthy campaign, yes definitely; but it hasn't been the highest paying campaign since the times of Ritz. Tongue By the way, on that note, it seems that UpDown came back, surprisingly enough.

[...]
Attention:

Please, update the code of your signature (there were some minor changes).

Please, try to update the code asap. If not updated till Sunday, I'll have to remove you from the sig campaign.
The new code is available in the first post of this thread.

Hope for understanding and thanks for your help! Smiley

Perhaps it would be a good idea to place this warning in the OP so that people can more easily find it, especially if you are considering banning people for non-compliance. After all, it's likely that not everyone comes to the forum everyday, much less this thread, and may end up missing it if this gets buried.

faucets are ridiculous man.. every hour you get a chance to earn less than 1 penny. i did it for 2-3 days or something like that, and ended up with 3 pennies worth of bitcoins.

Yeah, but wouldn't you wish to have earned a few pennies worth of btc a few years ago and the forethought to have kept them? Wink

Anyway, as others suggested, the good thing about faucets is that they allow people who are relatively new to this to earn enough to start playing with it; you won't get rich with it, but that was never the point.

Why do threads always turn a bit ugly?

Isn't it likely that that is merely a reflection of its participants?

Wasn't it better back when parents actually raised their kids?

Would it not be better to castrate people who're clearly unfit to have children?

Shall we start with you then?
2656  Other / Off-topic / Re: Earth is hollow on: June 29, 2014, 05:27:08 PM
How do you know it is solid and doesn't resemble the form of an atom?

Because magnetism and gravity yo

How does the Earth can be hollow? It's a mindblown
+1. It can't be hollow just because we have oil and other awesome stuff

Attempting to play the devil's advocate here, those things don't necessarily imply the Earth, or more likely, some regions within the planet, couldn't be hollow. Oil would in theory form even if the Earth was hollow, with little more than the crust. Magnetism and gravity would require there to be something inside I suppose, though if the hollow region(s) were relatively small, they could perhaps go by unnoticed. In this case, for the "whole" Earth to be hollow, there would still need to be something equivalent to the core inside, and some as yet unknown material covering the inside of the crust to prevent the whole planet from collapsing (just don't ask me how the planet could have been formed that way). Tongue

On the other hand, seismic waves give us a very good idea of the interior composition of the planet; unless there is something fundamentally wrong with our understanding of them, they negate the idea that the Earth could be hollow, or even that large regions are, especially when combined with the other methods.

10 days, 22 hours and 44 minutes

I find very hard getting activity, even if I've posted about 700 times, my activity is getting higher very slow.

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=178608

The activity number is determined in this way:
time = number of two-week periods in which you've posted since your registration
activity = min(time * 14, posts)

Activity is updated every 30 minutes.

I'm not sure there is much point in trying to explain how activity works here. The most recent pages all have people asking and then people answering this very question, but nobody bothers to look. In fact, just a few posts back, in this very page mind you, I explained that to someone else; in other words, he didn't even look at the page he was posting in. Tongue
2658  Other / Off-topic / Re: Your favorite game on: June 29, 2014, 02:53:19 PM
I spent more hours playing Civilization series than anything else, but Master of Orion was the 1 game I played the most.  Guild Wars 1/2 ranks up there for me as well.

I have also spent a lot of time with Civilization I, II, III, and IV... and then with Alpha Centauri (the sequel, when the ship you launched from Earth reaches Alpha Centauri). Wink

But all in all, I also liked Master of Orion and probably Master of Orion II more: building your own spaceships, alien races, the possibility to customize your own species, plus all the things that made Civ a great game. And then there is Space Empires V. It takes all of that to the next level, with far more options than any of those games. Both the graphics and the enemy AI kind of suck, but if you really like these kinds of games, take a look at it; you won't be disappointed. Smiley
2659  Other / Off-topic / Re: When will the USA go to WAR? on: June 29, 2014, 12:52:02 PM
I'm well aware of history, but the US had almost nothing to do with WW2.
And nazi Germany was at war with most of mankind, not all of it. While the US kills people of all so called "races" just for the money.

I wouldn't say that they had almost nothing to do with it; their participation was important, but it's true that their role is often vastly overstated. Still, at least you can't blame Americans for discrimination; they only see in shades of green. Tongue

The sad part is you read my post without looking at what I replied to.  Does the word context mean anything to you? Please look at the quote to which I responded to.   That's the one judging people by how eloquent they are.

Did you take any meaning from my post.  Look I don't care if they have to use sign language or grunt like apes if they're capable of thinking like Stephen Hawkings.  Unfortunately, the leaders we have had as of late make great apes look more intelligent.

Oh, I read his post as well as yours, and I didn't mean to single you out in that; sorry if that was the impression it left.

My point is: wouldn't it be more productive to tell him just that (how eloquent they are is irrelevant), instead of going on a meaningless tangent that does nothing to help the situation, and then further wasting your time by offering to search for the source of the "Obama says 'uh' about 31x more often as Bill Clinton"? Tongue
