Sometimes I go on a reporting spree and do ~30 reports in the Altcoin/Off-topic board. Meanwhile, Welsh has almost 30k reports (which means that he would have received 30k PM in his box).

Sorry, but this isn't a good idea. Hitting 300 good reports isn't that hard.

I can see where it might not work for you or Welsh, but it is really as simple as deleting the message(s) if it's of no use to you. 2 clicks and you can delete a whole page of messages.

For me personally it would have been useful at times, in lieu of anything identifying a post as having been reported. I know this has been suggested as well and would be ideal for any sub 300 reporter.

Either way it was just an idea being tossed out there.
3202  Other / Meta / Re: Seeking reporter badge images on: July 29, 2018, 04:52:52 AM
A little off topic.

While were making changes regarding reporting, can we:

  • After reporting return to the post you reported, instead of to the main board
  • Can we also get a PM sent, notifying you submitted a report with a link to the post.

The second suggestion could be useful to the members before they hit 300 reports in identifying which posts they've reported.
3203  Other / Meta / Re: Suggestions: Merit as a form of reward. on: July 29, 2018, 03:14:18 AM
But yea this probably good one and maybe ban every user that have 0 post after 24 hours after he register on this forum.

That would not be a very inclusive policy. In the fight against spam we don't want to deter anyone who is actively trying to become a prat of the BTC community.

Some people come here to just lurk, and may not feel like posting for a while. It may actually be more productive to prevent an account from posting for 24 hours so they can spend some time reading first.
3204  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Ravencoin [RVN] PoW GPU Mining | Asset Transfer Blockchain (Updated ANN) on: July 29, 2018, 01:31:57 AM

That is, do you think that they are making a mistake or are they doing everything correctly considering the development of mining? In the first paragraph i fully agree with you.

The fluctuation in network hashrate have little to do with the coin itself. The multi algo pools and nicehash see the opportunity to having most coins and algos available to draw in as many miners as possible.

The fluctuations are mostly from miners who cash out and aren't holding any coins for the future, so they go where they can earn the most fiat equivalent at that moment.

No what they are referring to is the network difficulty increases.

They are currently swinging largely due to nicehash, and a few more exploitative raven miners.

This is the same thing that happened with Bcash when It forked.  At high diff they disappear as profitability is low, then when whoever is left does the heavy lifting to bring the diff down, they all come back and collect as much as they can.

Lather. Rinse. Repeat.

The problem has become worse since being listed on profit switching pools and nicehash

Does anyone know any extra terrestrials for an eMerit project?

No but I do know some extreme terrestrials.  Good luck with your alphabet merit soup
3208  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Buying a Used ANTMINER on: July 28, 2018, 01:32:06 PM
The price sounds appealing.

I would ask them to provide you with the purchase/shipping details to at least validate the possibility of them only having 70 hours.

Also be sure to see them running and check the logs to show they are performing as expected. Should be easy with them being local.

Also get them to agree to handle any correspondance required for warranty repair should an issue arise within the warranty period.

Good luck.

Just for reference this probably should have been posted in mining speculation.

Dude, the ICO is still ongoing.

Glad I didn't miss it, I can't believe you didn't PM me. Off my Christmas card list for sure.

We joke at theymos' expense, but the truth of the matter is that in no way is theymos or BCT involved with the SEC's bogus coin. It's just theymos way of adding some humor to the forum is all.

PS: Don't tell the mods that the user account Thermos Cat is me, else they'll tag it with red trust in their attempt to protect the community, something I've been doing for years, saving folks in this space countless tens of millions of dollars.

Thanks, I was out of the loop on this one. Wasn't sure if it was some sort of PSA. Well Thermos Cat, your secret is safe for Meow. I can't imagine anyone figuring it out. Might want to change the font, fools everyone.

I just got a ton of money from really liked the HoweyCoins initiative, and so I posted their advertisement took it upon myself to carefully write an honest ANN to fairly represent the HoweyCoins project. Certainly, my controllers I was happy with the results, and I'm glad to see so many suckers wise, intelligent, handsome investors taking an interest in this great project.
This may be my new favorite coin. With my guaranteed profit I could invest a ton of money in you Sir Thermos, but only if I can have a HoweyCoin badge to show my amazing and handsome investment savy.
3210  Other / Off-topic / Re: Can our society and its technology create the impossible? on: July 28, 2018, 11:45:31 AM
*snip*

Op I can appreciate you trying to drum up a good conversation. Unfortunately your post is really just a mixer of words without any real message. Try and put out some ideas as to what you think the impossible could be. I think you just threw society into your title, to try and make it stick on this board.

I think eventually there will be very small machines that can test so many things in a person's body. These machines will be able to diagnose patients better than human doctors can. I think that we will use DNA mapping more and more. We will do DNA tests of all children at birth so we can know what illnesses they have a predisposition to. This will be allow doctors to better treat the person throughout life.

Some of these advancements are available now in their infancy, They are already striking their own ethical debate. With DNA mapping people wonder where to draw the line, if you discover a fetus is going to be born with an impairment or disease. What constitutes the "right" traits to adjust or breed towards. Much like any advancement there is what it was meant for, and ultimately what its end use is.

Look at the I phones and new computers. We have new technologies able to achieve great things.  Nowadays very few diseases still resist us. We have develop space technology and our life is not the same.  Maybe one day, we will be able to meet aliens. *snipped*

My favorite part about a lot of our current technological advancements in communication are that they stem from early Sci-Fi. I always think back to old Star Trek, whenever I'm on video chat.

On the disease front this has become a double edged sword, we do have treatments for many illnesses; but there are organisms that evolve at such a rapid pace when combined with our sometimes needless use of antibiotics they are becoming a threat once again.

In regards to Aliens, I feel our society has placed space exploration on the back burners. If it weren't for private enterprise picking up the torch we may never know what is out there. As far as an impact on our society, I don't feel enough people care what is going on off planet regardless of the possibilities for resources or experiment.

Hey there,

You may want to update your post after reading these guidelines, updating the OP to include some of the information can assist in finding a buyer.
3213  Other / Meta / Re: Posting another members content on: July 28, 2018, 08:57:56 AM
I haven't seen any country specific threads there though. Should we encorage posters to start submitting them?

P&S, doesn't specify that it is only in relation to any one country. I think it would be encouraged as you're also helping teach the member, how to find the appropriate boards to post on.

Quote
That still leaves the problem of the member posting his original work that has been edited by another member. I have a selfish interest in wanting to publicise my translation project, and hopefully that will attract more members to submit articles.

Why not ask them to wear a SIG linking to your project? I also can't see there being anything wrong if at the end of the post they had a snippet to this effect.

"The content of this post was created by OP. Language assistance provided by Jet Cash and the Ivory Tower Project, " I'm sure you'll come up with something better but this would seem to cover your bases and keep things transparent.

Quote
I would also like to see more discussions about the internal strife in some countries, but I'm not sure if that is a dangerous path for the forum to take.

I think it is a topic like any other that should be discussed. In the proper boards it can be an enlightening experience, but there will undoubtedly be some heated discussions. It will be up to the moderators to make sure that the level of discussion is inline with forum policy. In all honesty some of these types of threads are created recklessly and haven't resulted in any catastrophe that I'm aware of to date.

OP, will you be accepting Forum Escrow?

Nice photos, here is a guidelines topic to assist with sales

3215  Other / Meta / Re: Posting another members content on: July 28, 2018, 08:30:03 AM
I have only heard you mention your project, and haven't actually checked it out.

I'm just wondering who will carry on the conversations for the topic. Are you planning on continuing to help the content creator respond in English?

Personally I don't think the post should be placed in "Ivory Tower", it just feels like it would be circumventing the permissions for the board. I think you should help OP and then have them post in P&S, as Hellfish is doing a great job of reviving that board.

This way OP can post it under their own profile and their is no issue regarding a false positive for plagiarism. Ultimately it is your decision, but if you do go the route of posting their content, I would suggest keeping an archive thread active. This way you can archive every user you assist, and place the links there. This will show that there was an educational/tutorial relationship.

Good luck with another Jet Cash project.
3216  Other / Meta / Re: Seeking reporter badge images on: July 28, 2018, 07:54:56 AM

that is actually pretty good idea, it can be something like this:

300 good reports
1000 good reports
5000 good reports

So far this is my favorite.

I personally had been trying to find images that would resemble, April O'neil for 300, Spiderman for 1000, and Superman for 5000; but I failed.

Then in a slightly combative mood I found these 3
  300
  1000
  5000

Images were found here.
3217  Other / Meta / [Suggestion] Benefit of adding Octothorpe tag option on: July 28, 2018, 06:14:01 AM
It's pretty often you come across a topic, and within the first page someone has pointed out the similarity to other posts. Sometimes a topic is started with "Not sure if someone has posted this".

I figure it may be beneficial to give members the option to "Tag" topics or posts.

I don't know how hard this is as an ad on to the current system, but it could be done in a few different ways.

  • Start out with a few categories: Troubleshooting, Repair, Guide, Tips/Pointers, Custom-Insert here, Poll/Vote
This is a short list, I'm sure others can think of some to ad. The OP of the topic can select tags upon creating the topic, that they feel suite the material.

  • Same idea, but in this instance other members can then tag a topic or post how they see fit.
I would say OP could still have the option, but this allows other users to do so in their place should they not utilize the function.

[/list]

Personally I favor the option where any user can "Custom". Over time the more people that start to tag certain topics or posts, it will give a wider range of words to search for and hopefully provide a more targeted search overall. Not sure of a potential downside, yet to allowing anyone and everyone to create Tags, but if we wanted to select a certain group to do this, they could get a fancy Badge.

This could also be a nice way of finding older responses, by maybe using Custom- Hell freeze if you want to know about BTCT and KYC.
3218  Other / Off-topic / Re: Merit System Upgrade on: July 28, 2018, 05:48:53 AM

You have one of the better post histories I’ve read recently. You are actively engaged in conversations, helpful, knowledgeable and support bitcoin. My opinion is that you should keep doing what you’re currently doing. 20 merit awarded.

Uh Oh, did you tap the "back" button.
20 became 40.  Grin Good thing you have lots to go around, and that you like their posts.

Thanks again for doing this you did help me start on my way, and I carried forth and got my "Senior Member" status.

Thank for your guide
.
Can I translate this, and share to Indonesian local forum?

I am fine with that.

First I would like to make sure that you are fluent in English, and forgive my ignorance, but based on google "bahasa Indonesia". I do not want anyone just using a translator to create the content.

Please also link to this original thread; and identify that you are translating the work.

When you are done, please post here and I will link to it in the OP
3220  Other / Off-topic / Re: How can I identify the smartest person in the room? on: July 28, 2018, 04:41:02 AM
When I’m in a meeting or at a conference, I always watch who the most senior person in the room looks to for approval after answering a question.

I feel this may only be leading you to their "handler". These people are often there to help keep the "important" or visible person of a company/brand on message. So when you witness a politician or CEO answer a question off the cuff they may just be trying to gauge how well they did.

Often the smartest person speaks least of all.

This is a sad truth most of the time. Depending on the setting they may not be speaking up, to protect their job or job prospects. In other circles it may be that they just don't have the energy to discuss the issues anymore; or feel their time will just be wasted.

Best thing to do in the end, is just make sure you are sorting out fact from fiction in the room.
