681  Economy / Speculation / Re: Buy the DIP, and HODL! on: November 10, 2023, 03:11:42 PM
.
.
So if we look at our current situation, we had a low of $15,479 in November 2022, and so the BTC price has been moving up ever since then with several corrections along the way, and yeah, the mere fact that we went from the most recent local low of $24,920 in early September to our current high of $37,978,
.
.

Considering the current market price compared with the Lowest low of this run which is around 15K and the Highest high which we are now, we haven't even crossed the quarter region to its next ATH.

So anyone who wants to buy Bitcoin for the long term still has time to buy at the discounted price but the price can move either way in short term and its always been the case so focusing on its long-term pattern will give better clarity for anyone who looks at what price to invest/buy bitcoin.

I agree that its still early in the -bull run- to buy now and look to the future to make profits if
thats the goal but after the surge up to todays market price of over $37,000 I would say that
there are a good few people holding out now for "the Dip" because inevitably it will happen eventhough
the sentiment ATM is that it could rise further . . . abd keep going!

Personally, I have FIAT now but I'm holding out for the "correction" - so yea I'm waiting for the
"Buy the Dip, and HODL" moment.

Semi finals over at Metz Paris its a chance for lesser ranked players on the ATP tour
to win a tournament.

Surprisingly Fognini beat Sonego yesterday and plays Humbert today. Humbert seeded 4
is favourite @ 1.23 but TBH I wouldnt be surprised if Fognini pulls off another win @ 4.3,
could be worth a bet!

Shevchenko plays Herbert of France, this could go either way, Shevchenko favourite @ 1.45
683  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: [Rugby] Union / League / Super / Sixes Sevens Pro14 / Cups & Tours / Olympics on: November 09, 2023, 10:29:20 PM
They were some odds!

Round 4 of the URC kick off tomorrow. The second match will be a hum dinger, Ulster v Munster,
two Irish teams again. Ulster will be out for a win after narrowly missing out to Connacht last
weekend. I think it will be close again and I cant get Rollbit loaded to check the odds.

On Connacht, they play away to Edinburgh, it will be a tough one and hopefully they can retain
their no 1 spot.

More tournaments this weekend::::
Gallagher Premiership - R5
Top 14 Rugby - R6

There is an SEC deadline for today to either approve or reject two SPOT ETF applications by ARK Investments
and 21Shares, this may be the reason for the sudden increase over the last 24/48 hours.

Quote
The agency faces a final deadline to respond to ARK Invest and 21Shares's spot bitcoin ETF application
by January 10, 2024, and BlackRock's application by March 15 next year.

https://www.morningstar.com/news/marketwatch/20231016219/bitcoin-etfs-are-not-approved-yet-but-analysts-think-they-could-become-a-reality-in-january

I'm thinking if these get approved there will be a frenzy of buying ahead of the Blackrock deadline for
March of next year.

If they get rejected there will be a bit of a sell off!

I think everyone here would love to see another masterpiece from 1dq. I remember
when all your works were released, except the Cryptoglyphs i might have been away from
the forum at that stage
. I wish you well for your future art endeavour and hope the auctions
go well which I'm sure they will given they are original pieces 👍.

The ATP Finals are a few days away, and seeing how Djokovic, after losing at Wimbledon, managed to win several titles and has not been defeated, again he will be the favorite in the last tournament of the year, and also Alcaraz, who actually got the opposite result after Wimbledon, will try to end this year with a prestigious title.
However, apart from Medvedev, there is Sinner who is also very ready for this big event.
This will be an event that will feature matches with the best quality tennis and of the eight players competing, some will have quite a small chance of getting to the semifinals, Rublev and Tsitsipas are quite weak in my opinion.

As it stands from 8th to 5th is Zverev, Ruud, Tsitsipas and Rublev. I cant see them
beating the top 4, Sinner, Medvedev, Alcaraz and Djokovic so indeed the semi
finals should be the top 4 and its hard to see anyone beating Djokovic at this stage.

It highlights what we were saying yesterday about the current crop of "top 8" players,
they are competitive among themselves but Djokovic stands out from them somewhat.

Tournament in Metz Paris. Wawrinka vs. van Assche:
Wawrinka had good results in indoor games last year after his break due to injury.  Unfortunately, he has not been able to play on that level this year year and so his balance is even for indoor games. He is also noticing his age and recently said that he needs more time to recover.
Van Asche's games have been more positive this year and so he can go into this match with more confidence.
Wawrinka is the favourite in this match due to his extensive experience. It will be difficult for him if the match goes too long. Then it will be easier for van Asche.
Seems a match for a live bet.

Unfortunately Wawrinka couldnt overcome van Assche, it was over in 2 sets. Its a pity but
Stan is another who is close to retirement and wont be winning any tournaments next year,
age and the threat of injury followed by a long recouperation holds hime back.

Interestingly Fognini overcame Bublik today which is something I didnt think was going to happen,
Bublik really hasnt been able to progress further this year in his performance since winning
that tournament earlier in Halle and losing a final in the European Open against Fils.

2 of the top 6 seeded players are in the quarter finals, Khachanov and Humbers, Sonego is playing
currently against Shelbayh, he shouls win that.
689  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: [Rugby] Union / League / Super / Sixes Sevens Pro14 / Cups & Tours / Olympics on: November 08, 2023, 08:04:13 AM
The whole of last week has been a bit of a blur.

New Zealand pounded Australia 30 - 0 in the Pacific Cup while Fiji was beaten by Papua New Guinea 12 - 32 in a better played game. (Even the highlights on the NRL.com website can't make Australia look good) . 🤔

Whaaat?
I looked at the line up last Friday and thought 'ah well, its going to be an Australia win'

What were the odds before the Australia v New Zealand match? I would imagine the
Kangaroos were favourite given they beat the Kiwis the previous week. There has to
be something wrong somewhere in the Aussie camp I mean it just doesnt make sense
to be dominant one week and the following week to be totally blown off the pitch and
failing to score at least once.
690  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Tennis League All Thread on: November 07, 2023, 05:27:41 PM
It will be touch and go really, he needs 13 more titles to beat that record. Going by this years performance
of 6 titles it will take him another 2 years approximately. He still have the mental strength, skills and fitness
but he needs to maintain this level and not get injured.

Yes I would probably bet against it too realy.

Looking at it statistically - he won his first trophy in 2006 I think and has 97 titles - meaning that he is winning an average of 5.7 titles per year.
He's won 5 last year and is currently on 6 in 2023.

He'd have to keep averaging the same until he's 39 years old in order to achieve it. Probably doable, but definitely not likely.
The only thing working in his favor is that the current crop of players is below the standard we've been used to in the last 20 years or so.

Yes I agree that currently the quality is not as it was with Federer, Nadal, Djokovic and Murray and
because he is the last of the 4 still playing top tennis he can continue his winning levels.

Its interesting that his average is 5.7 titles per year and he is still on that average winning streak.

Also it has to be said that of the current players there are a few who could possibly improve like:
Alcaraz, Rune and Sinner.

There are those who could still maintain their current level: Medvedev, Rublev, Tsitsipas and Zverev,
meaning they are probably not going to improve IMO.

And all the rest will either marginally improve but not enough to reach top 5.

Thats how I'm seeing it now so if Alcaraz can improve and take a few GS's next year he will be a
big obstacle to Djokovic beating that 109 title record.

Looking at mine now too and I really like it.
Well done to mx12.levins on the artwork and to the Icarus team, great quality as per previous releases.

Already looking forward to this months release....

*one small note I want to make is that I think the text overall is a little small, I'm struggling to read the BTC address
692  Economy / Speculation / Re: back in 2015 we had a nice pre 1/2 ing streak. on: November 07, 2023, 07:28:39 AM
When Bitcoin was valued at ~$1 there were a lot of people who couldnt comprehend the
value going to ~$100 let alone $1000. I believe Bitcoin could be entering a new phase which
will take the market into a new range which will surprise a lot more people.
693  Economy / Speculation / Re: back in 2015 we had a nice pre 1/2 ing streak. on: November 06, 2023, 09:16:51 PM
I read/heard somewhere that an internal memo was leaked from Blackrock who would
advise that their clients should have something like 83.5% of their portfolio in Bitcoin or maybe "crypto"?!

If that is the case any coins sold at $500k would be snapped up and never seen again
for a very long time all depending on an ETF approval of course.

There are a lot of reports out there some conjured up to make sales etc. but I definitely
think there is massive demand for Bitcoin from those who want an asset manager to look
after it for them and who have no interest in buying a Trezor and minding their seed phrase!

So that alone should fuel philipma1957's projection to $500k regardless of the 2015 comparison.
694  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: How to invest 8k for passive income. on: November 06, 2023, 07:07:46 PM
Why are you fixed on earning daily income? To me, daily income earning will lead you to ponzi scheme. I have been involved in a lot of them and it always end in tears.

If I were in your shoes, I will convert all that funds to Bitcoin and make easy money after few years. Since the money is already in frypto, it is obvious you don't have urgent need if it.... so convert everything to Bitcoin and save them in a wallet you control the private keys.

This would also be my outlook. Just convert to Bitcoin and forget about it until 2025
when Bitcoin is likely but not 100% guaranteed to reach a new ATH after the halving
which is next year.

There isnt going to be anything 100% dead certain anyway.

Something we all steer clear of is giving your $8k in Bitcoin or Ethereum to an
exchange and they will give you a percentage on it, Coinbase are offering 3.4%
on ETH....

Remember though - Not your keys, not you coins!

Considering that Đoković hasn't lost to Dimitrov in more than 10 years, it was expected that he'll lift another title.
It's truly impressive how dominant he still can be aged 36.

This is his 97th title, and one of the rare records he hasn't broken yet is Connors's 109 total titles. Can he do it?

If I had to bet, I'd bet against it. But he's a mental monster, if he puts his aim to it he'll play until 45 if he has to in order to achieve it.

It will be touch and go really, he needs 13 more titles to beat that record. Going by this years performance
of 6 titles it will take him another 2 years approximately. He still have the mental strength, skills and fitness
but he needs to maintain this level and not get injured.

Yes I would probably bet against it too realy.

Currently 2 ATP tournaments in action,
Metz Paris - Top seed left in the draw is Humbert4 This is a bigger tournament than Sofia with
Bublik5 and Sonego6 competing
and
Sofia Bulgaria - Top seed is Musetti

In some cases the "Video ref" isnt even on the grounds! they can operate remotely and
still be in contact with the on field ref!

Rugby Union - URC

Round 3 kicks off on Friday with Glasgow Warriors at home to the visitors DHL Stormers,
tough 3rd match for the Warriors IMO but they are favourites @ 1.37, Stormers are 3.0,
I wonder if they have a full strength team after SA winning the RWC? Thats a tempting bet
to go with the Stormers @ 3.0

Connacht play home rivals Ulster on Saturday. Connacht at home are slight favourites
at 1.75.

The other 2 Irish sides, Leinster and Munster are massive favourites ao no point doing an
ML on them.

From the weekends round 3 of the URC it looks like the South African trams are suffering
from the loss of key players from the RWC. Stormers, Sharks and Lions all lost but it was
only the Bulls which beat Zebre.

I watched the Connacht v Ulster match which was a very close affair with Connacht winning
by 2 points.

The 2 stand out matches for me over the weekend was the Ospreys beating the Sharks
19 - 5 and Benetton beating the Lions 15 - 10, I dont know what the odds were beforehand though?

Todays semi finals are:

Dimitrov v Tsitsipas - I wouldnt bet on this one, Dimitrov could well beat Tsitsipas
but also Tsitsipas could actually make it to the final.

Djokovic v Rublev - I cant see Djokovic losing this and either playing Tsitsipas or Dimitrov
in the final will mean he will beat either of the two.

Wow they were some semifinal matches, both went to 3 sets each and both had tie breakers.
As I kind of suspected Dimitrov beat Tsitsipas or maybe its more that Tsitsipas lost the match?
For a top player who has have some many great things written about him he isnt really delivering.
Anyway Dimitrov is really performing well this year and is in the final against Djokovic who had
a tough match yesterday against Rublev 5-7, 77-63, 7-5

The odds for today are not outragous: Djokovic 1.31 - 3.5 Dimitrov

Is it worth a bet on Dimitrov? maybe under 24.5 @ 1.64...

Yeah, Djokovic v Rublev was one hell of a match. Watched it yesterday, the level of both players was extremely high, some serve returns by Djokovic were out of this world...

On a not so positive note, my combo bet yesterday didn't work because of some undisclosed Greek player  Grin

Meanwhile in Cancun, semifinals of WTA Finals tournament went on. Jessica Pegula breezed past compatriot Gauff 6:2, 6:1. Second semifinal Swiatek-Sabalenka was suspended at 2:1 in favor of Swiatek.

A few of us here have stopped betting on Tsitsipas, ge has become somewhat unpredictable.

The odds for today are not outragous: Djokovic 1.31 - 3.5 Dimitrov

Is it worth a bet on Dimitrov? maybe under 24.5 @ 1.64...

They were the same on Rune the other day - and that bet made sense to me.
Đoković is 11-1 against Dimitrov, and hasn't lost against him since 2013.

I'm not saying he can't win - but I'd need odds at around 6 to have a go at it.

Ah it was a win for Djokovic anyway in two sets, handy enough and if I had done the
under bet it would have won. Djokovic way too strong in the end and Dimitrov was
very emotional, he has been playing great lately and obviously had himself pumped
up that he was going to win today....
698  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: WHAT'S SPECIAL ABOUT THE UPCOMING BITCOIN HALVING 2024 on: November 05, 2023, 08:46:13 AM
the ETF applications shows that big institutional FIAT companies have interest in bitcoin for the next 40 years (most pension plans think that far ahead)
these institutions also have sister companies that are investing in ASIC mining hardware. so they they also see passed the volatile period of the 2024 halving and 2025 ATH cycle (asic farmers plan and invest 2 years+ ahead)

governments do not create laws for quick viral trends. they set laws for things that will be affecting a certain amount of citizens for years

..
in short everyone can see bitcoin economics is progressing in years to come, not settling down

I Agree, the ETF particularly the Blackrock Spot Bitcoin ETF if passed will be a megalith in terms
of Bitcoin investment. If it gets approved it will be for the long term. I think everyone knows even
the SEC that Bitcoin cannot be stopped and there is a massive pent up demand from Institutional
investors to buy Bitcoin.

So this IMO is the no.1 "special" topic ahead of the halving because there is talk that there is a 90%
chance it will be approved by February 2024 I forget where I read that - apologies

Also this will be the first halving since El Salvador decided to go "Full Bitcoin" there will be a lot of hype
aroun that when their value skyrockets with the 2025 ATH cycle.

700  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Send hospital ships to Gaza on: November 04, 2023, 08:20:59 AM
Israel is never going to allow this, sadly. And the U.S. along with much of the west are turning a blind eye to brazen genocide. Israel is an occupying force for Gaza, having boxed in all of its civilians, controlling everything that goes in and out. They even control the maritime border Gaza has, effectively treating it as theirs. Gaza could surely use a ship hospital, but when Israel is bombing hospitals and refugee camps in the ground, I doubt they'd clear a ship for docking to gaza, hospital ship or anything...

It's a very dire situation sadly. What should happen is that there should be a ceasefire with immediate effect. But instead Israel keeps pounding Palestinian civilians with bombs.

Thats it really. The world in general is turning a blind eye on what is happening in Gaza,
it always has, otherwise we wouldnt be having this conversation.

Israel would be too skeptical of Hospital Ships entering the area to provide medical aid.

Also consider the logistics of getting the injured from Gaza to the ships while
Israel is bombing the area.
