801  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: My wallet is stolen! (10 BTC) on: July 18, 2014, 09:01:08 PM
This thread makes me nervious... I created a.... offlineish wallet...  It is currently offline but.. this is what I did..

New hard drive, install windows, install BTC-QT, encrypt, send BTC to wallet, back up wallet to many USB's remove hard drive.

Odds of me getting screwed are..?!

Your wallet.dat file is still sitting on your computer in the roaming app data folder of Bitcoin Core.   That is what everyone is referring to as the wallet still being online...

i can't believe that people who hold bitcoins still don't know about cold storage.. it doesn't take very long to figure out, and it gives you way more peace of mind. every time i see a thread like this, i feel more secure about my holdings.
802  Other / Off-topic / Re: Anxiety and Weed? on: July 18, 2014, 08:57:11 PM

803  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: World Bank Report: Bitcoin is a ‘Naturally Occurring’ Ponzi on: July 18, 2014, 07:33:26 PM
world bank, of all the organizations, calling bitcoin a scam? what.. the fuck? world bank is a scam in itself.. their business model is about giving big loans at ridiculous interest rates, and then fleecing the 3rd world country.
804  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: [BREAKING NEWS] DELL is now accepting Bitcoin !!! on: July 18, 2014, 07:27:52 PM
I wonder how long Amazon can now stay away from Bitcoin. They will be losing money and market share by the day.

The only problem I see is all these companies starting from OverStock, TigerDirect to DELL are accepting Bitcoin only for their US operation. What is point of accepting a global currency for a specific country ?

because when you roll out with something new, you use some test markets until you feel more secure with how everything works. once you're more comfortable that it won't destroy or adversely affect your business, you can take it worldwide.
805  Other / Off-topic / Re: iPhone 6 Sapphire Crystal Display! on: July 18, 2014, 06:06:56 PM
100% of access attempts on iOS devices by the NSA are successful. Buying an iPhone is data suicide.

but even if that's the case though, do you really think androids are that much more secure? anything that reaches mass market becomes more vulnerable.
806  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Dell.com now accepts bitcoin! on: July 18, 2014, 06:03:48 PM
man, all this good news and the price still remains unchanged.. not complaining too much though, it will probably just make the next bull-run more explosive.
807  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Tea Party explained: a religious movement on: July 18, 2014, 05:28:55 PM
is it really a religious movement? because its engineers are politicians; koch brothers. it's a pseudo grassroots movement, i agree, but the guys who bankrolled it probably wanted to be known as the masterminds that created it. they just want to obstruct governance and work their agenda.

808  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Supervolcano in Yellowstone is going to Explode? on: July 17, 2014, 11:00:03 AM
Gee watch the movie Super Volcano from the Discovery net work, we are at 640,000 years now. From the last major eruption. Guess that make us 40,000 years over due for a major eruption.
To see how bad things will get watch the movie it is as close to what will happen as you are going to get. If you live with in 300 miles of Yellow stone when it goes say good bye.
USGS is painting a nice picture in hope it does not happen, but it will it is just a matter of when.

lots of people say it could wipe out the entire north america.. all that gas would block out sunlight, and all that ash that we'd be breathing in. it would definitely cause a rise in temperatures.

From the first article:

Quote
But the chances of it erupting soon are unlikely.

“The chance of that happening in our lifetimes is exceedingly insignificant,” said Peter Cervelli, associate director for science and technology at the U.S. Geological Survey’s Volcano Science Center in California.

Second article:

Quote
One theory is that eruptions happen every 700,000 years ago, but Smith said more data is needed to back that theory up.

“If we were to have another big eruption, it would affect a large area, on the order of several states,” Smith said. “But, as I said, that probability is very, very, very, very small. In my calculations, it’s .0001 percent.”

Panic mode disengaged.

you just "disengaged" the concern with one theory, which implies that there is more than one.

responding to something evil with hatred.. is not going to help your situation around the gaza strip and beyond.

and you are posting in the wrong subforum. you should go to politics and society for this. you should also put a warning for the gore.

812  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Feds to Purchase Resort Hotel for Illegal Children @ $50 Million on: July 16, 2014, 10:23:32 PM
Lets be honest here, at least on the surface they're printing money to help people and children no less instead of pissing it away on international warfare, I'd rather see them piss away money on that, but if you ask me, it's precisely because the U.S cause so many problems around the world and to their neighbours that they're bringing the problems onto themselves.

America is finally starting to feel the results of their violent empire building.

yeah that's pretty much it. america has caused so much destruction around the world, all in the name of imperialism and exploiting resources out of poor countries.
813  Other / Off-topic / Re: TV Series Recommendations... on: July 16, 2014, 08:26:45 PM
just saw the first episode of catfish the tv show.. definitely a bullshit show, but for some reason i feel like letting myself believe it's real, because the stupidity is just hilarious.

I have never watched the tv show, but the original documentary was pretty genius. It was mind blowing that stuff like that happens in real life b

i don't know, it screams fake to me.. everything seems so well-placed. maybe i'm wrong though, and people can be THAT stupid.

Yeah it does, but he kind of just plays along just to see how for the web of lies goes.   Given the lifestyle that the people are living at the end of the road, I don't think it was all made up.  If it was, that is genius in itself

you should check out the first episode.. this chick thinks a supermodel guy is her bf, and it turns out it's a chick who sounds like a 13 year old kid. she talks to "him" on the phone and still doesn't realize it. can't believe she'd talk to someone like that and think it's a model. and then at the end, they locate the actual model guy in the pic, and he talks to her via webcam.
814  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: HELP ;SOME IS STEALING MY BITCOIN;IT GOT 1 CONFIRMATION!!! 1min ago on: July 16, 2014, 02:07:51 AM
what's the point in panicking? if that shit is gone, then it's gone. bitcoin is nonreversible; no one can help you get it back.
815  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Ive been scammed, someone please help me. on: July 15, 2014, 09:41:14 PM
a cheap learning lesson for you. bitcoin payments are irreversible, so you always have to look out for yourself. don't trust strangers, because there is no good reason to.
816  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: July 15, 2014, 09:11:49 PM
i'm not holding out on any hopes of bitcoin taking off on a bull-run, at least not in the near future. i'm just hoping something will happen from october onwards.

but there is a coherent world view (at least with obama) - be a slave to the corporations, infringe on privacy rights, spend/mettle overseas to gain resources, and then spend government money to help out contractors.

Is there a single thing on that list that W Bush didn't do? (and his dad too)
Obama has simply continued most of what was already in place. Hopefully someone like Rand Paul can bring real changes (even if he is a long-shot)

that is what i have been saying.. except obama didn't enter iraq on false pretenses (so that he and dick could help their friends). i consider that worse, especially after increasing spending and cutting taxes.

i know the righties here like to complain about the left and its spending, but republicans spend just as much as democrats.. just on different things. they want to put all the money into imperialism/military.
818  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Obama Wants $67,912 for Every Illegal Alien Minor on: July 15, 2014, 08:23:47 PM
So we create a crisis and then demand money to resolve it? How dumb do they think we are?

How many days are we down to until the next president takes office? Prince O is by far the worst president we have ever had.

Really? The worst? He's just damn-smack boring average do nothing.

most people here are right leaning or republican.. so of course he's the worst to them. he's bad, but he's not the worst offender. in 3 years, people will be complaining about how hilary is the worst, and how they miss obama.

McCain: Paul a part of ‘Fortress America’ wing

By Martin Matishak - 07/13/14 10:03 AM EDT

Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) on Sunday waded into a brewing foreign policy debate inside the Republican Party, saying Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) represents a more isolationist outlook.

Paul is “part of a wing of the party that has been there prior to World War I, that is a withdrawal to ‘Fortress America,’” McCain said on CNN’s "State of the Union."

...

McCain, who serves on the Senate Foreign Relations Committee with Paul, acknowledged the freshman senator has a “far different view than mine of the world.”

But, McCain said, he understood Paul’s appeal to Americans “weary of involvement” after the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.

"So I'm not particularly interested in getting between Senator Paul and Governor Perry, but I do believe that the things we're seeing in the world today, in greater turmoil than at any time in my lifetime, is a direct result of an absence of American leadership," McCain said. "And we are paying a very, very heavy price now, and we will in the future, until we decide to understand that America is an essential role in maintaining peace and stability throughout the world, and that does not mean sending combat troops everywhere."

Now, what is missing, between McCain's bouncing around like a rubber military ball, and Rand Paul's "isolationism" (it's not really isolationism) is a proper doctrine, based on a coherent world view.

We don't have one from the current administration, and we don't have a Republican one to turn to.

but there is a coherent world view (at least with obama) - be a slave to the corporations, infringe on privacy rights, spend/mettle overseas to gain resources, and then spend government money to help out contractors.
