861  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Never gamble in front of your kids. on: September 21, 2023, 07:56:07 PM
Hey gamblers' community, hope you're all doing great.
I wanted to convey my message here that gambling in front of our kids may put adverse effects on their growing minds and they may also take the wrong path and start gambling (either by asking you personally for funds or by stealing it in order to fulfill their gambling cravings).

I'm sharing this because I saw this issue with my kiddo who was once watching me gamble at a website playing blackjack and she started asking me more about the game. Then one day, she wanted to play it herself and asked me if she can go for it and I said "no, it's not your legal age to go for such games". So, it's better to keep our kiddos away from gambling and let them focus on their studies, else it'd actually ruin everything for the whole family if the kid takes the wrong path.

I agree. Children's minds are like sponges. But instead of soaking up water, they soak up experiences that they see from the actions of adults. Especially when it comes to actions of their parents. Gambling, drugs, alcohol, smoking, swearing and all bad character traits could become a permanent component of the childs personality, later on in life. This is because their brains are still growing, and the neural network is still forming. Anything that disturbs this process could end up permanently altering the child for the worse.

But then again, hiding the truth from the child to the extreme also does not work. If you pamper a child too much, they will grow up without necessary life skills, and something like that can be just as damaging to them, later in life.

Bitcoin blowup: Domestic dispute turns crypto catastrophe with six-hour standoff in central Thailand
Quote
A heated dispute over Bitcoin investment loss led to a domestic violence incident that escalated into a six-hour standoff with the police. The 35 year old husband, Kritsada, shot his wife and barricaded himself in their home in Uthai district, Ayutthaya province, before eventually surrendering to the authorities.

I just found a news story and tried to find more content related to this story, and this is all I know about this story. It makes me imagine stories that I have encountered before in the investment environment, where losses occur and make people lose their original reason for earning money, which is also to bring home and build a better family life. I don't want to discuss the reasons for investment failure here, but from the story associated with bitcoin, it will also continue to happen, but in a different form.

Bitcoin is getting more and more popular, and it is labeled with many different stories. I can see many people blaming Bitcoin as the cause of all the problems, but clearly the main problem is people causing them related to Bitcoin.

I think that blaming this on the Bitcoin incident is dumb. Obviously something was wrong with that relationship long before Bitcoin got involved. Perhaps the Bitcoin investment was simply an excuse to have a fight, which got out of hand.

I do not believe that Bitcoin should be made into the scapegoat here, which the news article is obviously trying to do. In such an unstable relationship, eventually this would have happened one way or another. It was just a matter of time.

Also, Bitcoin investments only become a loss if you sell during times when the price of Bitcoin is lower than your buying price. Should have kept hodling. But I suspect that he invested money that could not afford to invest because they needed it for other things, because he hoped to get rich quick.

863  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: No KYC vs KYC enabled casinos (Facts you need to know) on: September 21, 2023, 06:50:59 PM
I would like to add that if someone does decide to go for a KYC enabled casino, it would be a better thing to do the KYC before depositing any funds. Because either way, the casino will, at some point, demand KYC. And when this happens, they might take much longer to verify your KYC documents because they do not have any time limits on how long they are allowed to legally freeze your account (as far as I know) until the KYC procedure is done. This might leave you waiting to withdraw your money. Depending on your situation, this can become a big problem. Especially if you have to wait months.

Screw the moon; let's to the elephant nebula.  Don't forget your wallets.

So that's what a crypto launchpad is?
865  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Moment of truth on: September 20, 2023, 09:46:43 PM
It's time to share your experience.
(choose one question and share your thoughts)

1. what helped you blend into this space?

2. tell us how your journey in cripto has been.

 3. what would be your advice to the newbie still trying to figure things out?

4. Did you also have the "get rich quick" mindset. I bet it slowed down your learning process.

1. I am not sure what you mean by "blend in" or "this space". Are talking about the Bitcointalk community or the Bitcoin community? You should be more detailled with your questioning.

2. My journey in crypto has been fun. Although to be more honest, it was rather a journey into Bitcoin, rather than into crypto. The crypto part came much later and has been sometimes disappointing but sometimes amazing.

3. The advice that I would give to a newbie is to never give up.

4. I used to have a quick-rich ideas and phases but I was mature enough to not follow them through.
866  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Can i have multiple accounts at the same casino? on: September 20, 2023, 09:40:18 PM
You can't. Because your account contains your personal and banking information and the casino allows only one customer account registration to ensure your security. So it is foolish to try this because it may get your account banned so you should use an account to keep your fund safe.

That all depends on whether or not the casino that you mentioned allows that. You can go to the terms and service of that casino by scrolling down to the bottom of the website and clicking on "Terms and Conditions" or "Terms of Service". Sometimes the naming can be a bit off, but they are usually very similar to each other. Although similar does not mean exactly the same. Nor should you misunderstand it as such.

Read it through carefully and be sure not to break any rules, otherwise your account and your funds could be in danger of being frozen/confiscated, depending on the transgression, of course.
867  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: What is the drive that makes women go into gambling? on: September 20, 2023, 08:10:30 PM
I think for many women some of the few reasons they go into gambling, is that gambling provides them with the opportunity to be sociable and enjoy time with friends and also use it to escape boredom loneliness or even stress, excitement is also part of the reasons why women goes into gambling the sense of winning creates an additional anticipation of something bigger having the spotlight on you as a winner can make you feel good even for a brief moment. This has eventually turn into frequent trips or long session in gambling.

Women do have different motives for going into the world of gambling, I believe. I mean if you were to look at the entire matter from the perspective of a biological standpoint, then men have developed to become more risky as when they were hunters back ages ago. Women stayed in a shelter, waiting for their risky mates to return with food. But that is not all women did. They developed raised and protected babies, made social bonds and shared information between each other, which was vital to the survival of the human species. We are a herd-like species after all. We cannot stand to be alone and together we become stronger and more likely to survive.

So going by that, obvious the more risky counterpart (men) will be more prone to risky things with tempting rewards, like gambling. Women are more risk adverse and would rather enjoy the gambling community than the act of betting itself.
868  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Do you trade altcoins during the bull run or just hodl? on: September 19, 2023, 09:16:55 PM
Next year will be my first bull run and have just been thinking about what will be best to do when it finally arrives next year.

Do you plan on just holding till an amount you are happy with or is it a good idea to try and trade altcoins whilst they are pumping to earn even more?

By the golden rule, when Bitcoin goes up so do the altcoins and when altcoins go up, so does the price of Bitcoin. But then again, sometimes these altcoins do not go up as high as Bitcoin. Or somebody sells a large chunk and drives the price down hard so that while the Bitcoiners made a profit, you are left with the same monetary value as you had before.

Altcoins are a shot in the dark. But I suppose if you were to trade them, the best time would be during a bull run, when all markets are in the green. Hodling is always the superior option, though. But that only goes for Bitcoin. I cannot vouch for altcoins since they tend to die out, get dumped, become rugpulls, get hacked or other.
869  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: How do you manage your money on gambling sites. on: September 19, 2023, 06:34:51 PM
I've been following a few gambling channels on Twitter and Telegram, and whenever they share a screenshot of a bet slip or winning ticket, they occasionally also include the balance of their wallet. I've seen this happen several times, which made me wonder why they don't choose to withdraw their winnings instead of storing them in their gambling site wallet. Why do they leave that much in there, or is it simply for show off? A gambling expert should know better than to save their money on casino websites.

I always withdraw all my winnings and only deposit the right amount i want to use to gamble whenever i want to play a game. I’d like to know everyone’s opinion on which way is better and which one do you practice in managing your funds on gambling sites.

First of all, if you can avoid it, never store your money long term on gambling sites. Make sure that your money is in your own wallet. Not on any third party wallet (casinos, exchanges, etc.).

It does seem like a shame if your casino has high withdrawal requirements, so anyone gambling small amounts can just leave them in their casino wallet. (I gamble with small amounts so I do not care about my casino fund safety too much. But big winnings should be withdrawn)

You can never know when and where the next hack, scam, etc. takes place. Even the most trusted casino is ultimately a centralized entity which has full access to your casino wallet and your money. We should not forget that.
870  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: When the fun stops on: September 19, 2023, 04:18:47 PM
Online gambling platforms exists not only to get you some lucky wins, it's also another form of entertainment,  but I will like to ask if truly you people are getting that entertainment from gambling?

I am, honestly.

But that is because I only bet very small amounts of money unlike most of you lunatics  Tongue  Roll Eyes

What people need to do before going into an online gambling casino is to first assess their financial situation and use max. 10% of their disposable income in a month to gamble. Divide that number up by the number of days in the month and you have yourself daily gambling funds. Do not become tempted into using more of the funds than the established daily gambling funds. Hold on to some discipline and if you do not have any discipline then do not gamble in the first place.

I see no fun in gambling large amounts of money in hopes of winning "the big one".
871  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Can Gambling affect your relationship? on: September 19, 2023, 04:04:12 PM
Yes, Gambling addiction has strained a lot of relationships through financial instabilities emotional turmoil, social isolation, and family problems. Gambling which was meant to be a popular kind of entertainment for many and was designed to provide a temporary escape from everyday life and also help one to be more observant mentally task your brain and it is also good for your mental brain. When it becomes an addiction it causes financial strain the strain can manifest in various ways including the loss of shared savings, debt accumulation, and financial secrecy which may lead to strained communication between partners. This communication breakdown can prevent couples, friends, and associates from working together.

Anything that you do can affect your relationship. Even small things that are not your fault and that you have absolutely no control over. I think that if you are a gambler and an addicted one at that, then your spouse should try and help you heal from your addiction. However if all their attempts prove to be fruitless in the end, then obviously at that point I would not be the one to blame them of leaving the relationship. There is only so much another person can do.

As long as one does not drag down the other or hurt the other, that is a healthy relationship and it does not matter how anyone else views that spouses gambling behaviors. It only becomes a problem if it is a problem to the spouse.

But gambling addiction, just like alcohol addiction, does usually become a problem.

I guess. If I found it, I would be asking for the full value of $160 million USD (in BTC). I do sometimes believe that there might be a guy tinkering away somewhere, at a stolen nuke in his garage. How many nukes has the US government lost? Do I want to google that?  Shocked
873  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Are You Tax Efficient With Your Gambling Habbits? on: September 18, 2023, 09:51:34 PM
I'm researching the topic on how many users actually report their winnings or losses to the tax authority, and from the current research there's a major discrepancy in the processes from country to country;

~snip

So, question to you, did you ever consider paying taxes on your gambling winnings, or deduct the taxes with the losses you've created? If not, what is the reasoning behind it?

Honestly, I would have to say that I am not tax efficient, at all. At least, not when it comes to gambling.

As far as I understand it, gambling losses cannot be deducted fully in my country (or perhaps only certain kinds of losses but not other types can be deducted... I am not sure about the way it works). I only gamble for fun with small amounts of money in the first place. I do not wish to hire a tax consultant merely to save up on a few dollars. I am not interested in deducting my meager gambling losses from my taxes. It is not really worth the time to me.

Now if I ever win a gigantic sum of money, I will think about whether or not I want to hire a tax consultant to tell me on how to keep most of my money. Roll Eyes
874  Economy / Speculation / Re: Will ETFs pump BTC to $100k soon? on: September 18, 2023, 09:24:44 PM
Grayscale is about to launch a Bitcoin ETF soon. They've recently won a lawsuit in court against the SEC. Other companies (eg: BlackRock) are considering doing the same. If these large-scale investment companies join the "Bitcoin train", do you think market prices will "pump"? How would this positively affect BTC in the long term? Do you think it's possible the cryptocurrency will reach $100k if ETFs are approved by the US regulatory agency (SEC) before the halving of 2024?

Your input would be greatly appreciated. Thank you. Smiley

Yes, I think that ETFs are going to have a massive effect on Bitcoin, since the largest institutional investors are going to have the freedom to finally deal with cryptocurrency (in this case, Bitcoin) without having to worry about the government screwing them with weird regulations. ETFs are a way to invest in crypto while the ETFs themselves are not crypto. This is the upside-down logic that is supposedly, in the mind of the government, going to bring a new method of regulation over Bitcoin. Somehow.

SEC seems to finally understand the unregulatable, decentralized nature of most cryptocurrencies. Which is why they are fighting back so hard. They know that ETFs are just a backdoor towards supporting the legal legitimacy of Bitcoin as an investment.

The old generation that is not yet invested in Bitcoin, due to being stubborn in their old investment types, will be investing soon.

Banks are investing in large amounts of copium right now.

876  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Navigating the World of Online Gambling on: September 18, 2023, 05:24:12 PM
Resist Addiction,Winning can be exhilarating, but it can also be addictive. If you find yourself unable to stop gambling after a few wins, it's time to take a step back. Remember that gambling should never become a primary source of income.
online gambling can be a fun and potentially rewarding activity when approached with caution and responsibility. Think of it like playing video games, but with the added thrill of potential rewards. Be diligent, protect your privacy, and always gamble responsibly.

Something I would add here is that people who have struggled with other addictions in their life are more at risk to become addicted to gambling than others. It's good to evaluate your life before and see if you have struggled with cigarettes, drugs, alcohol or even gaming. In case you have excessively consumed one of these things it's a good idea to have a close look on your gambling activities. Remain in control of your gambling habit should be the key for anybody with previous issues. Having a fixed set of rules is what helped me the most and be open about your activities to friends and family. Once you start lying to your family it's not far from lying to yourself.

I totally agree. If somebody finds that he has the character of becoming addicted, then that is a sure sign that his dopamine regulation system is genetically flawed when it comes to addictions and therefore works against him. But that does not necessarily mean that that person should avoid addictive things. Rather they should think about a way to keep themselves disciplined enough to follow a set of rules which ensure to lower the risk of becoming addicted. Most people do not bother developing any kind of strategy to fight off addiction though. It can be a lot of work. Most people lack the discipline. Those kinds of people should completely stay away from additive things like drugs, alcohol, smoking or gambling.

878  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bank vs Crypto: Are they opposites? on: September 17, 2023, 06:06:02 PM
Crypto? I am guessing that you hopefully mean Bitcoin by this because I would not vouch for any other cryptocurrency other than Bitcoin when it comes to holding your money. But as I was saying, when it comes to Bitcoin, the very purpose of it is for you to be your own bank and not only that, but a much better bank, because nobody can touch/freeze/withdraw your Bitcoin without your express permission (assuming that you hold your Bitcoin in your own wallet and not a third party wallet like an exchange website wallet).

So in a nutshell: Bitcoin is the better bank because with Bitcoin you are your own bank.

s/amp.theguardian.com/australia-news/2023/jun/28/ads-for-online-gambling-should-be-banned-in-australia-within-three-years-inquiry-recommends]Ads for online gambling should be banned across all media and at all times within three years to combat the manipulation of an “impressionable and vulnerable audience”, a parliamentary inquiry has recommended.

After months of debate about betting ads, including the prime minister, Anthony Albanese, labelling them “annoying” and the opposition leader, Peter Dutton, calling for a ban on ads during sports matches, the inquiry has provided a blueprint to shut them down entirely.
https://www.theguardian.com/australia-news/2023/jun/28/ads-for-online-gambling-should-be-banned-in-australia-within-three-years-inquiry-recommends

If this should be implemented will it affect bitcointalk casinos? As we all know most established and new casinos come to bitcointalk to launch their ANN thread and carry out signature promotion campaigns which can be regarded as ads in a sense. If ads should be banned will their promotion in Bitcointalk also end?

Depending on the country, it could already very well be banned. But when it comes to addictive substances or in this case, addictive behaviors, as long as they are adults, I see no problem in advertising to them. As far as children go, the internet is a completely unregulated room of full freedom, so they will find worse things on the internet than gambling advertisements. There is no way to stop them except if the parents themselves implement a very strict control over the child. Which, in itself could be debated on whether or not that is a good way for a child to grow and learn.

But lets assume that everyone here is an adult. Why should we demand censorship? Are we not responsible for ourselves? Do we not have the freedom to do as we like? Do we need big brother to watch over us, and tell us what we are allowed and what we are not, as if we were living in China?
