Use alternatives for off-grid transactions
982  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What's the fate of BTC payment now on: May 12, 2023, 01:20:42 PM
also make weekend payment abd study when the mempool is not congested.
It is partially true only.

During weekends, there are less demand for transactions than intra-week days (working days) so usually you will have less waiting transactions in mempools during weekends. But it does not mean mempools always are not overloaded in weekends. The network can be congested a few weeks or months and if you fall into such periods, mempools will only get cleared a little bit but still likely congested.

For the first time since 2022 I have officially put an end to Bitcoin payments on my business until further notice
You should announce it in your business thread instead of creating a new thread (this one) for the announcement. In future, if you want to resume your business, make another announcement in that thread, not create another new thread.

Quote
I have gave few people some discount advantages to spread news about Bitcoin and now I am not so sure anymore, I can't even afford $5 per Bitcoin transaction, and also my customers that are surety when it comes to Bitcoin payment have all halt.
I could be wrong but do you have a business and accept Bitcoin as a payment method. So (assume it is true), your customers will have to make on-chain transactions to send their bitcoins to your wallets. They bear the transaction fee, not you. Correct me if I am wrong with my theory.

Quote
Is there any business owners accepting Bitcoin still? How are you doing it?
Big or small, you can always receive bitcoins. Problems appear only if you are senders and have to pay transaction fees.

Is there any way to go around this?
Lightning Network.
984  Other / Meta / Re: Imgur images suddenly became invalid? on: May 11, 2023, 10:27:55 PM
The problem is probably from imgur. Their site now automatically redirects from the old domain imgur.com to imgur.io
I don't know about it but will check more.

Quote
Not sure why the did this but yes indeed the images with the imgur.com link are not showing in the forum.
Not all images are invalid. Perhaps some different reasons to make images valid or invalid from imgur.com.

I could be speculating, but It looks like Imgur has changed their terms of service. This involves removal of explicit content and "old, unused, and inactive content that is not tied to a user account from their platform" according to a TechCrunch article.

In addition to explicit images, Imgur is also removing old and unused photos that are not tied to an account. As a Twitter user noted, Imgur has been used for years to upload photos without an account and post links to different kinds of sites. Removing those images might result in a lot of dead links all over the internet.

The changes are going to take effect this Month on the 15th. That's just 3 days away, so I believe they started blocking proxies?
It is a terrible rule update from imgur.com.

With this change, I guess in future they will force people to pay money for image hosting. It's all about money at the end.

Years ago, they allowed to upload images with Tor but changed it and now, more terrible changes. Time to move from imgur to other sites.

985  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: UEFA Europa League 2022/23 Season on: May 11, 2023, 10:22:08 PM
Despite Roma losing points in the league, Mourinho knows what to do in cup games. They won the first game 1-0 at home. The goal came at 63 minutes. I expected the goal earlier, but there was no goal in the first half. In the second match, Mourinho will be looking for a goal from the counters by playing defensively. In this way, I think that he can easily write his name in the final. The coach of the cups is about to win a trophy again. The Mourinho level is a whole other level.
Mourinho is every experienced and smart and his tactics is perfect for knock-out matches. I felt like he intentionally reserved his players for Europa League when he saw that opportunities for AS Roma to compete for top four in Serie A becomes vague in a last few weeks.

Roma did not play better than Leverkusen in a first leg semi final and they even faced with conceded goal in early of first half. However, they played strictly in tactics and minimized chances for Leverkusen to have goals in Olimpico. Bove again had another great match for Roma and he has become a new icon in Rome. He is a home-grown player for them, just like Totti and De Rossi and now started to have bright future with them.

It was a magnificent goal from Gatti to end the game on the 97th minutes of the extra time. The equalising goal has brought hope back to the Italian side. Juventus deserves the goal because they took total control of the second half and they mounted pressure on Sevilla till Gatti finally broke the deadlock on Sevilla. So many opportunities were not properly used by Juve, as they lost many chances in the second half.
It is a simple goal for Gatti, not a magnificent one but it is so important for Juventus. With this goal, they had a draw and will play a second leg in Seville with less pressure.

We know that Sevilla have very good support from his fans at their home stadium and it won't be easy test for any guest. Juventus actually deserve to have goals in the  match after many opportunities they created. In that equalizer, if not Gatti, Milik can score it too as they both can complete that situation easily.

This draw will help Juventus and Serie A to hope that they will have an Italian final match in Europa League between Juventus and AS Roma.
986  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Will the adjustment of the difficulty rate help with lowering transaction fees? on: May 10, 2023, 03:04:50 PM
My friend and I were discussing Bitcoin transaction fees yesterday, and he believes that transaction fees are related to the difficulty rate, and since the difficulty rate is adjusted roughly every two weeks, transaction fees will go down after the adjustment. I wasn't so sure
Nobody can be sure about that.

Difficulty, difficulty adjustment, network hashrate, transaction demand (waiting transactions in mempools) interact with each other and impact on transaction fee.
If difficulty adjusts to lower than now, blocks can be found with faster average block time that can be helpful to clear mempools at faster rate. However it is only true if the rate of new waiting transactions in mempool remains the same like now. In reality we are unsure what will happen with that rate in next 2 weeks and later.

Another factor is hypes around Ordinals, BRC20 that can contribute to add transactions with very high fee rates at tip of mempools. It will cause domino effects and late comers will have to increase their fee rates if they don't want to wait a few weeks. You can not control how people react with their transaction need and mempools, fee rates.

Sum up, it is a very complicated scenario but I believe that sooner or later, the hype will no longer hot than now. From DeFi, NFTs, GameFi, Metaverse on Ethereum ERC20 chain, I believe it won't be different on Bitcoin blockchain.
987  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: [Question/Help!] Bitcoin Transaction Fee Discrepancy on: May 10, 2023, 02:49:37 PM
The problem with Myceliuem is that you cannot set the transaction fee based on mempool. That is why Electrum Wallet is highly recommended as you can input the transaction fee based on the current fee shown on mempool.
If it allows you to type your favorite fee rate, it is acceptable to use. I don't see that allowance with Mycelium wallet. If it does not have Mempool option but allows you to type fee rate manually, you can manually check mempool by yourself and type it for your transaction.

With Electrum wallet, I double check mempool manually every time before I broadcast my transaction.

Quote
Mycelium as per my understanding follows Johoe's Bitcoin Mempool Size Statistics and uses it to give those fee options.
I am not sure about that.

OP can move this topic to Wallet software (Mycelium) board.
988  Other / Meta / Re: List of the forum's admins/ global moderators/ staffs on: May 10, 2023, 01:39:04 PM
You can find all administrators in the same way by typing "administrator" in the box.
It is how I found staffs, admins, VIP members and Donators when I made my threads.

@tranthidung: Cryptios needs an update too:
Official confirmation: alanst is not a member of Cryptios anymore.
Thank you Loyce. I knew about that announcement from Cyrus but forgot to update this thread. On it now.

What could be the reason that a staff would be dropped by theymos after being appointed? Could it be related to wrongly handling cases or intimidation of ordinary members?
Mostly is because of inactivity or abandon the forum. It can be from other personal reasons like Dabs.

Forum staffs were chosen very carefully and very less likely they will turn to be scammers. I recall that one forum staff was removed because of scam (it is very far in the past).

With the re-opening of Vietnamese after being blocked for spam, I hope that the Vietnamese language becomes more active now.
I put my time to request unlocking that local thread but sadly local members did not contribute good things there. Only a representative of BitcoinVietnam looks good and I am very doubtful that Vietnamese guys will be actively in that thread. They are very early Bitcoin adopters in Vietnam.
989  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin's problems are visible as never before on: May 09, 2023, 03:24:00 PM
The number of unconfirmed transactions is again high, as it was in 2017 and not only.
Has the era of bitcoin passed as the number 1 cryptocurrency?
Or is it a move to strangle his price?
Reading your topic title and your total activity point, I guessed you are a new member in last few years, one or two years after 2017. When I checked your profile, I found that you are from a 2016-cohort and you are surely knew about what happened in 2017 (with the quoted content too).

I don't understand why you tried to say it is a first ever Bitcoin has problems to be seen. This time, what is happening is significantly better than what happened in 2017 or 2021.
990  Other / Meta / Re: List of the forum's admins/ global moderators/ staffs on: May 09, 2023, 03:15:36 PM
It's time to bump this thread with an updating information about one of our staffs.

Xal0lex was assigned additional task to moderate threads in Other languages.

He informed me about it today.
991  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Which wallet should be used to keep bitcoin safe? on: May 09, 2023, 03:10:53 PM
Trust wallet, mycelium and electrum which of these three wallets is the most secure?
You should prioritize wallets that are open-source, non custodial (self-custodial) and have good reputation.
  • Trust wallet is close-source
  • Electrum, Mycellium are open-source

All three wallets are non-custodial.

I will prioritize Electrum wallet. It supports Bech32 address and Lightning Network.

992  Other / Meta / Re: History of local boards on: May 09, 2023, 02:42:21 PM
It's time to edit the table a little. The Vietnamese local board is no longer blocked and a new moderator, Xal0lex, has been added to the "Other languages" section.
Thank you. I forgot to update the status of Vietnamese local thread. In fact, I was the one who tried to make request for unblocking it. I am going to update the moderator for it too.

I don't know if this top is dead, no update for a long time. But if you do a google search, your topic will come up, as it happened in my case. And so I would have a request to the OP @tranthidung to update the topic. And my local community is fairly active now, so I'll tell you to remove the inactive tag.
Thanks. I did not update this thread for a long time but I knew about efforts from your local members to increase its activities and made your request to have a local board.

Completed.
  • Xal0lex now is one of two official moderators for local threads in Other languages.
  • Updated status of Bangladesh local thread.
  • Added Nigeria local board. Not sure when theymos created it.
993  Economy / Lending / Re: [W] 1000 USDT loan, 1 month, repay $1100 on: May 09, 2023, 02:36:13 PM
$100 interest sent. Loan will be extended one month.

Please confirm, I will lock it after that. Thanks.
994  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Reconstituting private keys on: May 08, 2023, 12:21:11 PM
If you are unsure about your old wallet, you should move your bitcoins to a new wallet.

You can do it in either ways which both cost you transaction fee because it is an on-chain transaction.

I'd add a passphrase to the new wallet for an additional layer of protection.
That passphrase is a layer to protect others to access your private key. That passphrase can not protect your private key if you leak the private key. With a private key, others can import it and be able to spend your bitcoins.
995  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Fees, Nodes, Ordinals Inscription and way Forward on: May 08, 2023, 12:12:54 PM
Those ordinals are absolutely useless for anyone and I don't know why people are still trying their best to bring NFT's into Bitcoin blockchain.
They have reasons to create their games and doing it on a biggest blockchain is very smart idea. To support game-makers, miners and mining pools do have their roles in high transaction fee too. We cannot have evidence that they do this and that but it's reasonable if they broadcast some transactions in mempools with very high fee rates in order to force others to join the race.

At the end, miners get benefit from the race by earning very good mining rewards than usual, with abnormal high transaction fee (with some blocks, it is up to 6.6 BTC).

Verify it with Bitcoin block explorers

996  Economy / Services / Re: [FULL] LiveCasino.io Signature Campaign | Sr. Member+ | 100$ p/w, funds escrowed on: May 08, 2023, 11:46:44 AM
@everyone let us know your opinion on the matter. You can also do it via PM in case you don't want it to be public.
I have no issue with either bi-weekly or monthly payment in this crazy period. I will not move my bitcoins after receiving it from the team and see its value drops a lot after spending transaction fee. So moving it monthly looks to be fine, personally.

It's not about me but I think maybe some of others might need it weekly and the team can consider about spending payment in stable coin during these days. When things are cool down, we can return to Bitcoin. I don't vote for this option that is only my idea. If others like it, they must vote for it.

Thank you.
997  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Electrum Fee Settings on: May 07, 2023, 03:07:46 PM

There are three options: ETA, Static, and Mempool.
  • ETA gives you overpaid fee rate.
  • Static gives you rights to set a fixed fee rate like 1 sat/vbyte or 5 sat/vbyte for your transactions. It will be always like this before you change the Static fee rate by yourself.
  • Mempool gives you recommended fee rate by retrieving information from mempool. In theory, it is a good option but I would like to manually check mempools before I choose a fee rate for my transactions, no matter I chose Static or Mempool option.

Where to check mempool and fee rate. One of two websites:
998  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Some helpful Telegram Bots to monitor Bitcoin TX, Fees, other TX and this forum on: May 07, 2023, 02:49:11 PM
Those bot operators will use data from available resources rather than running their own Bitcoin full nodes. If they rely on other parties to have data for their Telegram bots, they will have issues if those parties have problems.

It's good to mention those telegram bot notifiers but it's better if you mention some websites to check mempools and fee rates. Likely those bots use data from those websites
999  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What's with Bitcoin transaction fee? on: May 07, 2023, 02:37:36 PM
Bitcoin’s Frenzy of Activity Pushes Average Transaction Fee Over $7, Nearly 2-Year High

It is because of BRC-20 tokens and low quality projects try to migrate their projects to Bitcoin blockchain that is a biggest chain and can be helpful for them to catch attention of token fans. Those tokens can be weak, low quality but from what you have seen on Ethereum blockchain, Binance Smart Chain and other chains with smart contracts, you will see the same with BRC-20 tokens.

I guess it won't stop soon and the Bitcoin network, mempools will be more overloaded with those shit tokens.
1000  Other / Meta / Re: [Workaround] Automatically Save Text Written In Bitcointalk Editor on: May 07, 2023, 01:12:39 PM
I don't like to use those extensions because I prioritize my safety and security on my device first.

Convenience is not my priority as I can manually do it with Notepad, Word and so on. No need to use extensions which can save my time but it is not too much to sacrifice safety and security. A few seconds to copy and paste to save a draft is not annoying with me.

Browser extensions: more dangerous than you think
