All altcoins depend on the bitcoin.

except NXT.

NXT marketcap is very small still, the whole altcoin market cap size is less than 11%.
From the NXT site :

Quote
Bitcoin introduces new coins by people mining. This involves a series of computers around the world working to solve math problems, if successful the system release a predetermined amount of Bitcoins and move onto the next block. This system is called proof of work.

This is a very expensive venture with many "mining rigs" costing thousands of dollars and consuming a huge amount of electricity. As more people mine, it becomes harder to earn coins and run the Bitcoin network. You could spend a lot of money on dedicated mining machines and ultimately not earn enough to pay for the equipment let alone the cost of the electricity to run it.

With NXT on the other hand, all coins that will ever exist already exist.
What's this about, give yourself 100% of the coins and decide what to spend them on?

'forging' is not exactly great either... but these things weren't created by marketing people they were created by engineers.

Sure, but a coin needs adoption by people for it to have value.

to be clear Im not a NXT shill.  I'm a cryptocurrency expert.  I got involved with NXT fairly recently.  The NXT model is far more lucrative than Bitcoin.  I've also been involved with the PPC community and I've worked on other algorithms in the past.

No offense but PPcoin is not a well chosen name. If you want an altcoin to succeed it needs a good name.

Bitcoin will continue to 'work' only for so long as the block reward continues to be valuable enough(in real terms) to offset an attack.  We are very close to this threshold and color coins just might push it over the edge.

What do you mean by very close? Its at least 5 years more.

Ahh well in that respect then yes money in and of itself doesn't make anybody happy it's worthless BUT in the viewpoint of all the things that money can be turned into i.e house, car, bills, food, gas, etc then I am firmly of the belief that YES money IS happiness and I would be a million times happier with lots of money because then I can spend time with the family and not at 16 hr work days barely scratching by

Sometimes the ones with money and a roof above their head are also unfortunate. That is to say, money does not solve all problems, such as depression, bullying, being ignored/misunderstood, divorce and other situations in society.

Quote
everybody is different but my personal experience is money does not make me happy. people who don't have alot of money often think it's the shortcut to happiness. it's not. if you can't be happy without money you won't be happy with money. i will agree having money can make life less stressful and provide access to experiences that you would not have without money. but to say money is the reason for happiness is rubbish.

I think it depends on what makes you happy/unhappy much more than money. Sometimes money can change the situation that makes you unhappy, and sometimes you can change a situation without money. That is not to say money is happiness, but it can help you deal with certain situations that make you unhappy.

North Korea looks pretty black and white to me. Do they even allow acess to the internet there?

Not really, everything is restricted, they have limited access. I think they have some phones that can, but everything is censored, and only top-ranking government officials can access the outer internet.

Exactly, the elite there lives a very privelleged life. They know many things are lies (such as the hamburger invention), but do not speak about it. Its kind of like our system but taken to a more extreme level  Smiley

Why would you break a working phone if you didn't have another working phone?

I think the intention is to make Apple as a brand name worse. As a company, you want to have your brand associated with good things;

But i had 2 apple iPhones (iPhone 5 / 4s) and i thought of myself , i think it's time for me to make an adjustment to having a closed source phone to having a open source phone (YAY BLACK PHONE / ANDROID)

The hardware is still closed. There is no way to go around the tracking or standard text-messaging surveillance. But Apple produces one of the most closed systems, which are to some very convenient, but with zero freedom. I boycott Apple for years.

I'm sure you're not being serious, but there's no way a dictatorship and censor-loving totalitarian state would create something as freeing and liberating as Bitcoin. Kim and co probably hate the entire concept.

NK is not so black/white as the western media likes to display.  Have a look at http://www.reddit.com/r/Bitcoin/comments/1ulha7/the_first_bitcoin_transaction_in_north_korea/  Sure, the citizens do not have access to it, but this does not mean the authority does not want to use it for their own benefits/interest.

I quit my job because the boss was an idiot, who started on the same position as me, but later advanced by ass kissing. After the promotion she started acting like the boss when he wasn't around and became hostile to co-workers, poisoning their lives. Sometimes it's just better to move on.

This was a good move. Whatever we do today should be important, because we trade our lives for it. No need to waste it doing a slave job.

No kidding. That's why I like stories like the guy who offered a homeless man his choice of $100 or free programming lessons. Last I heard, the homeless guy had made an Android app for people who want to carpool. Have you considered doing something like that? Teach a man to fish...
i am open minded to all options and possibilities. but at this time i'm not sure how i could teach a man to fish.

First you need some tools to do something. To write a book you need a pen, to build a car you need tools, to walk around the world you need map/route information. Given the right tools one can achieve really great things. To give a simple example, if a homeless person was allowed they could chop wood and build their own house.  Kids can build quite decent houses/huts as a hobby, so homeless people could do it if they were only allowed. There are a lot of regulations : you cannot make a house, the ground belongs to a single entity (the government) etc;  Perhaps if there were a private terrain (the permission) with the tools, they would build houses.

It is difficult to do all things at once. Start an experiment with a small group.

Money doesn't change people it just amplifies what was already their. I wish you well OP this is a really good thing you are doing you are i haven't seen many people like you in a long time i hope you change the world.

This depends on where you live. Some people sell their organs for just 100$, so it can make a big difference.

For my piece, I'd like to hear what brought you to Bitcoin too. If there's anyone out there who'd be interested in talking with me about their experience in the Bitcoin community, or just shoot the breeze about Bitcoin and cryptos for a while, it would help out a lot - no story is too small. If you don't want to share your own story, but know of a good one (like Laszlo's pizza purchase), share below.

I saw a video of an interview where Google CEO Eric Schmidt and Wikileaks CEO Julian Assange talked about it. I looked it up and quickly realised what a quick rise of market price bitcoin went trough. I decided to better hop on the train quickly, hoping for a quick buck. It was then where I realised the advantages of this technology, and that it is much of a bigger thing than I imagined. I started reading the original paper, looking into the code, hanging on the forum etc

coinurl.com

adbit.co

operation fabulous
btcclicks

My experience is that a-ads is the easiest, pay is not high, but they pay automatically. The others require that bidders bid on your site, until that happens you do not receive any money. a-ads is CPI (cost per impression) and PPC (pay per click)  Smiley

Thinking about setting up a FTP server that's open to everyone. Would be able to access it via ftp and tor
Would ask for donations in btc, ltc, or a number of all coins.

The idea is very good, I think this could work. I dont know how you can keep it 'free' trough only donations tho. It really depends if the users will pay  Smiley Possibly some users would store very large files but not pay anything. I think its better a system where you pay a small fee to upload a file.

It is not an argument but a statement of fact. That clause stating that they can block you from transferring bitcoin out to a non-coinbase customer is really in their TOS that you have to sign to continue using their service. However, understandably, they are not publishing (at least i cannot find it) on their website.

In this case I agree with your point.

I thought in a democracy, you are innocent until proven guilty? Maybe I'm just naive....

In the original sense it means "rule of the people". It is dervied from acient greek δῆμος (dêmos) "people" and κράτος (kratos) "power" or "rule".  The current system is more like an aristokratia "rule of an elite".

Here in the US you can be held in prison indefinitely without charge or trial. This is actually a law within the US legal system since 2012 or so, but I am not a lawyer. As far as guilty is concerned, the US has an enormous database of the peoples everyday activities, talks, locations and so on..  if they want they can scrutinize everything (the PRISM program). Of course there is no justice in unjust laws, but we live in a system where the expression "befehl ist befehl" still is valid to a lot of people. tl;dr; if they want to f*ck up your life, they have the legal authority to do so.

ABSOLUTELY WRONG !!!  Angry

In the eyes of politicans, yes. Calm down and let me explain.

There is always a financial aspect to war in the eyes of the politicians/banksters. Sending an army over costs a lot of money, so they want to benefit in one way or another.
The International Monetary Fund has approved a two-year $17.1 billion loan package for Ukraine, this is one way to get money back. Another way is resources (both Russia and US/EU are interested in the resources in the Ukraine). Do you think the US wants to involve in a war on the other side of the globe for free?
