As quite new to scene, I'm curious how "older members", talked to each other about bitcoin in past. What number did you use? I doubt it was satoshi or microBTC in yr 2010, because it was worthless, right? so since when is satoshi used?
thanks for opinions
After 1 November 2008. They mostly talked about bitcoin in the early days, from what I've heard faucets used to give 1 btc. Before january 2013 btc used to be about $13, so it would be straightforward to talk about bitcoins as units. In october 2013 they used to be about 100$ so it would still be ok; Then it went straight up to 1000, so people would talk about x btc. You can see the chart on https://blockchain.info/charts/market-price?timespan=2year&showDataPoints=false&daysAverageString=1&show_header=true&scale=0&address=

Once bitcoin catches on enough, at least 1 of these extremely rich guys will definitly buy a shitload of them.
I heard bill gates is already bullish on bitcoin, Altough I don't know if he has some. I don't know if you qualify him as global elite either.
I found this on the web, on an interview of him: What are your thoughts about cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin? The foundation is involved in digital money but unlike Bitcoin it would not be anonymous digital money. In Kenya M-pesa is being used for almost half of all transactions. Digital money has low transaction costs which is great for the poor because they need to do financial transactions with small amounts of money. Over the next 5 years I think digital money will catch on in India and parts of Africa and help the poorest a lot "Bitcoin is a technological tour de force."

At this moment, people can still deposit money to account at Chinese BTC Exchanges.
So there isnt even really a proper ban? Just restrictions on certain things? You will quickly discover that china bans bitcoin about once a month It is indeed very often in the news (from the forum): China’s Central Bank Governor: PBOC Won’t Ban Bitcoin - april 2014 China bitcoin ban is FAKE DONT PANIC!! - march 2014 China's Central Bank warning Banks on Bitcoin - may 2014 China central bank warns banks against use of bitcoin - december 2013 BTC China Endgame?? - december 2013 etc

That would be great for brainwashing, and likely would not only be used for positive things; In addition, people may be able to hack into your brain.. hacking has never been so much fun

Well you already have a signature to get some extra bitcoins, that's a good first step I think. And also a income wich you already spending on bitcoins, I dont know how much you earn but part time isnt alot probably. Maybe you could start a homework business at your school, where you do people's homework and let them pay money or bitcoins to you.
Or maybe invest in some altcoin and do some daytrading with them, or sell them when there is a pump to get some extra bitcoins.
Thanks for the tips I fear I'm not young enough to do homework business Maybe master thesis business, but I don't think anyone would join. Perhaps this thread is useful https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=525183.0it has a lot of suggestions on how to make money

Just like the title says I'm looking to pickup an inexpensive laptop for bitcoin cold storage. Any ideas?
Lightweight, highly portable, good battery life and cheap would be a great combination.
Cheapest laptops range from 200$ to 500$. They are very slow on running windows (and often come with unsupported XP), so you may want to use Linux if you go for a netbook. Sometimes these netbooks are not so cooperative with installing Linux, so it could cost you an evening or two. Alternatively you could go with the cheapest laptops that are not netbooks, around $400-$500;

Not if the closed propertarian version wins. One company controlling the most widely used crypto currency would be a nightmare of proportions for everyone who cares about freedom and equal rights and opportunities for everyone. Sadly, most people don't give a shit, so maybe we deserve just that. It needs a lot of support from the people, bitcoin has that support for various reasons. A propriatary version may just be a pump and dump scheme in the end, as we see with many alt coins.

Confirmation time really depends. I had transactions which had 1-2 confirmations in 3 minutes, and transactions where I waited for around 10 minutes. When this a big transaction it really does get on your nerves

Nice paper. However one point: We show how to prohibit the Bitcoin servers to accept connections via Tor and other anonymity services. This results in clients using their actual IP addresses when connecting to other peers and thus being exposed to the main phase of our attack, which correlates pseudonyms with IP addresses This is questionable, users could be behind multiple VPNs. At least, those who are very serious about privacy will not only rely on Tor. In addition, they could use a network which is not theirs;

seven digits, but with a decimal somewhere around the middle.
7 digits? As in 10 million USD per coin? Now that would be something... I think it is more probable to have a digit somewhere in the middle, $1000 to $10.000

Don't be sad, bulls, it wasn't the first time that reality disappointed someone. And, unfortunately, I have a slight suspicion that it won't be the last.
Well reality seems to change quickly its kind of fun how in only two weeks we have went from a pretty bear market Towards one that is starting to turn into a bullish one Shows how a little bit of time and a bit more longer attention span can sometimes reverse the tide Yep, if we will continue like on the last days then in upcomming 48h we should be on 600$ The uptrend has started, things move fast in the cryptoworld. We are very near 600$ now

banks open monday, money should be flowing and i bet we will cross 600 soon
Banks don't open in the US Monday. National holiday (Memorial Day) Yet another reason to use bitcoin. Bank holidays.... Seriously, it's my money, let me spend if when I want it. Oh wait, you mean to tell me it's not my money? That's right, the money at your bank is your bank's money, not yours. What do you mean banks dont open? People cannot access their money in this time?
