1041  Other / Politics & Society / Re: North Koreans Among Most Malnourished in Asia on: July 20, 2014, 07:01:59 PM
Technically speaking very few countries in the world are food independent and must import to make up the gap.  In Europe, if I recall, France is the only country which is self-sufficient in food production and the rest have to import their food from North and South America.

When I was in Europe, they imported the food from other countries within Europe, including France. Europe is not as large as the US, so it is not such a big problem.

1042  Other / Politics & Society / Re: US Embassy in Berlin Gets Illuminated at Night - Funny on: July 20, 2014, 06:47:01 PM
I think this reflects on the US - Germany relationship that has resulted in our current president's spy policies with our allies. It also shows how good our foreign relations policies are that major countries are willing to openly mock the US like this

It's a funny image, but one should keep in mind that the German secret service is doing the same as the NSA, in fact, they are participating in various ways, including sharing citizens data and mass surveillance software. The country is full of US army bases also.

1043  Other / Politics & Society / Re: North Koreans Among Most Malnourished in Asia on: July 20, 2014, 06:33:36 PM
Really not surprising at all. I'm more surprised that the NK regime has managed to keep the people suppressed for this long. They're going to fall apart some time in the near future, and it is NOT going to be pretty when it happens.

Governments generally stay in power, for as long as they can. If they have to kill their own citizens to stay in power, they will do it. No matter if it's the government of North Korea or the US government. That said, the living situation in NK is very bad, and it is no surprise that the bottom and middle layer are trying to escape. Of course the top layer in NK has a very good life, with luxury hotel, lots of food etc.

1044  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Anti-Israel protesters rally across France on: July 20, 2014, 12:31:37 PM
France has sizeable Muslim population. Muslims would mostly support the Gazans.

That might very well be true, but these demonstrations have been going on a little all over: France, UK, Germany, Turkey, US, New Zealand, Norway, Argentina, Sweden and Australia, last I checked - I'm sure these aren't all just Muslims making up the demonstrators either.

You are right, muslims wouldn't support Israel. It's not likely Israelis would join in this demonstration  Wink.

1046  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What was the political view of Satoshi nakamoto? on: July 15, 2014, 12:36:50 AM
My question would have been: If he was a legit hardcore, anarko anti regularization guy, why he didn't make BTC at the level of privacy that CryptoNote based coins deliver?

The important thing is the technology, as the technology made us more free. I think that's what has been important for Satoshi.
You can read back on the mailinglist, but basically he told something along the lines of "this will give us some years of freedom"
At the time, it seemed convenient to use BTC trough TOR, if you wanted privacy.

1047  Other / Politics & Society / Re: World Economy 'More Fragile than Before 2007 Crash' on: July 14, 2014, 11:42:32 PM
it's amazing how long the economy's been propped up on hot air.

They are fabricating another world war.. don't worry soon millions.. billions will die so the Royal 13 won't have to give up their power.  Drafts at levels humanity has never seen before.. nuclear waste lands.. Things are gonna get bad.. no use in prepping really u'll end up dead or a slave there are no two ways about it.

People always get less free after a world war. Before 1940 people didn't even have to use passports to travel. All world wars have been started over money and world war 3 would be no different. I don't know if countries would really shoot nuclear missles, people in general are too scared to use them.
1048  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Six US Presidents Have Destroyed Iraq on: July 14, 2014, 11:09:30 PM
I would say one President really. George W Bush, and his administration lying to get us into Iraq. If not like you said OP, Saddam still has blood in his hand, but he would still be in power.

He is not in power, but what system the Iraqis have now? is it any better?

Quote
Yes, this is true.  Iraq left itself susceptible to outside manipulation and the US capitalized on that.  Clearly the US did not do it for Iraq in some altruistic manner. The US was fighting a idealistic war with USSR (or so we are told).  Iraq choose to side with the US.

The war with the USSR had also been of financial interest, at least the war with cuba has been of financial interest.
Of course, the people at the time were feeling somewhat threatened... as opposed to say Iraq.

Wow, i am surprised nobody even thought of commenting.

I guess thats why they say IGNORANCE IS A BLISS !!!!

And i thought that Bitcoin was a currency of liberators.
Just realized our community is as bad as the next one.

Have some patience, not every member on the forum is a millionaire.. we have day jobs and stuff  Grin

It's great idea to help financially people in this area.
I really feel sorry for them, over 60 years of struggle and conflicts and no resolution, no peace.
It will be great if we can help people in this area in any way.

I don't think there will be a political resolution. Sure, it won't go on forever - but it will go on as long as people believe in these religions, governments etc - and that is for a long time to come.
1050  Other / Politics & Society / Re: The Pirate Bay - Two of it's founders are now in prison on: July 14, 2014, 06:31:54 PM
What the hell is happening now in this world my god!
These two guys must be out in prison. They are a true contributor in the internet by creating PIRATE BAY.
Piratebay helps student like me who dont have money yet to buy legit softwares.
Why this authorities never appreciate the HUGE HELP they GIVE to people! Angry

Certain companies pay the government, and government listens to money. There's nothing democratic about this decision.
The Piratebay is online, for those who are wondering. If there is censorship you can go around the blockade.

1051  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Hole in Earth. Yamal. on: July 13, 2014, 11:56:22 PM
What causes that hole is that real?

The title in the movie says Метеорит, which means Meteorite.
I'm not sure what it is, or even how big it is.

1052  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Russian Federation under Ukrainian bombs. on: July 13, 2014, 10:17:23 PM
Things are a lot more simple. Putin is making steps backwards thanks to the reaction of the international community and the sanctions which individuals, and slowly businesses from Russia are objected to. He knows clearly that on a new war with the Western world it's not necessarily the military force that would count, but the economical consequences of it. And that is a war which Russia will loose so badly that Putin will have to face not only with a war, but also with revolutions all across Russia which would be started by the deepest economical crisis Russia would have to face in his modern history.

Russia is prepared for a war, if the west is pulling into Russia. It's similar to the cuba situation for Russia.. the US isn't too happy about rockets being put in Cuba, and neither is Russia about rockets being put in Poland or even in Ukraine.

In democracy, the voice of majority should rule, no matter if you don't really like, nor agree with it.

It should, but it doesn't. Its the voice of the minority that rules.. in the US, in Europe etc decisions are being made that are not in the interest of the people; Just take the mass surveillance crap for example, nobody asked for that. Democracy is dead in the US, Latin America and in Europe.
1053  Other / Politics & Society / Re: The Pirate Bay - Two of it's founders are now in prison on: July 13, 2014, 09:04:37 PM
Guys shouldn't be in prison, they have just provided place for crime. Criminals are guys that downloaded and uploaded, that includes me also. Everyone should be in prison by that terms, but that's just stupid enough for me to smile to them  Grin. Release them, no need for them to stay locked, you will not fix a thing with that.

They are in prison for a crime they didn't commit, this is an injustice. It's sad the legal system is on the wrong side of history.
In time let's hope the laws change, after all the whole world is copying, even the NSA, Apple and Microsoft copies your data without permission.
1054  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Take Back America on: July 13, 2014, 08:49:04 PM
Not many people know this, but being a Mayor, Judge or Sheriff usually has NO REQUIREMENTS except to win an election and be a certain age. I have seen people win elections in small towns won with people holding "Honk if You're Voting for X" signs on a busy corner.

I didn't know this, so they can do nothing all day and get paid?
It sounds rather extreme, there is no need for a financial budget?

1055  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Original NSA Whistle Blower: Goal is 'Total Population Control' on: July 11, 2014, 11:01:54 PM
Don't expect their to be any real dispute to this guys claim.  We know they are lying to us and I don't see any real need for this guy to lie.  Far more likely that the NSA is lying and storing stolen information from it's own citizens.  Just my 2 cents.

yes, they are storing information about citizens - and even build tools to use this information.
Basically they want to grab all the data. Of course the NSA won't tell you the truth about it, they are a secret service for a reason.. question is who are they serving?  Wink
1056  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Another Orwell Prediction Comes True… ‘Shadow Parents’ Now Government Approved on: July 11, 2014, 06:11:37 PM
How many people do they need to make this happen?

There are 1 or 2 million children in the country...

A little scenario for you to get:

As many civil servants as needed. Good pay. And don't forget that extra bonus if you can detect and classify any of the future's trouble makers, in advance, so Society can make big savings and create a better loving village where everyone will be welcome. Genetic markups will be provided for you to make the right decision... Each Shadow parent will be in charge of 10 children, but based on budget that number may grow to be 100, or more.

Don't forget the bonus, if you can afford the time to do a great job on all 100 cases you will be in charge of, for the next 18 years...

"1984" is fiction...

Waste of taxpayers money, the secret service already has all of the data.
1057  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2014-06-10] Bitcoin price 'to hit $2000' by end of the year on: July 11, 2014, 12:02:59 AM
If you think of the current adoption rate and where that would land on the S curve then there's plenty of room for pricing to expand. The USD is living on borrowed time so even when you have a BTC that is X thousand of dollars, it could literally buy you what it does today. However, if and when the USD experiences that kind of hyper inflation the sky is the limit for USD pricing. I'd imagine there will eventually be a North American currency at some point and that will be driven into the ground to force global fiat on the scene. This could be happening in the next 5 to 20 years unless the likes of Rand Paul gets elected President and the debt is radically reduced and we have an austerity period w/ economic growth that can bail us out. Either way, I expect BTC to do what is what made for and that is allowing someone to have as much control over their own finances as they're willing to have. The more people that want more of this control will mean a stronger mankind.

How would Rand Paul solve the problem? Of course one could print a banknote that says '9 trillion dollar', but I'm not sure how the Chinese would react to that; 5 to 20 years is a very short time, do you think the US will be in a critical situation then?  Perhaps one day we'll see a crypto-currency accepted anywhere as world currency.
1058  Bitcoin / Press / [2014-06-10] Bitcoin price 'to hit $2000' by end of the year on: July 10, 2014, 09:39:47 PM
Quote
The price of one bitcoin will reach $2000 by the end of 2014, a venture capitalist has predicted - a 226pc increase from the virtual currency's present value.

"I actually think $2000 is a pretty conservative estimate," he told The Telegraph. "We don't know for sure if it's going to happen in this year, but there's no doubt in my mind that Bitcoin's price is going to be thousands of dollars and, almost for sure, tens of thousands of dollars for one."

Source : http://www.telegraph.co.uk/finance/currency/10960012/Bitcoin-price-to-hit-2000-by-end-of-the-year.html

I think it's an interesting prediction. What do you think? will we hit $2000 by the end of 2014 ?
Personally I think we'll see $4000 per bitcoin one day
1059  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Do Bitcoin enthusiasts use IRC? and why? on: July 10, 2014, 08:08:50 PM
I used to be involved with IRC a very long time ago for many years and even ran a hosting company that offered primarily BNC & IRCd accounts. It did well for a while but I ended up shutting it down because business slowed and I really thought IRC would be dying off with the popularity of forums, online chats, facebook, etc.  By the time I said goodbye to IRC, it was pretty much just a lot of botnets, illegal operations & script kiddies. However, I have frequently seen people posting conversations from IRC here and posting screenshots of IRC chats.

So, I guess my question is:  Do the 'real' conversations amongst bitcoin enthusiasts happen on IRC and this forum is just a mouthpiece or PR forum for the "mainstream bitcoin users".  If so, what network does everyone use - or should I assume freenode?

IRC is alive and well, I don't think it will ever go away. It depends on which server you hang out on tho; Even today, IRC has unique features which other systems just don't have.  There are plenty of conversations anywhere, whether it is on forums, irc or otherwise. I think there is a bitcoin channel on each irc server nowadays, but I'm not sure. freenode is the official server for the bitcoin channel.

Quote
who cares, i can go onto IRC without paying, and without even needing to download a IRC program..

those that need IRC for developer and other useful stuff dont care about these gimmicky things that people try to sell them

Very true, developers do not care about it - and irc chat provides a good way to communicate for them. But mailing lists are easier if you have a busy schedule

1060  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Tips on how to explain Bitcoin to a complete noob? on: July 10, 2014, 08:02:42 PM
Okay, so a relative of mine who has never heard of Bitcoin in her life was asking me exactly how it worked. I tried explaining, but I'm not entirely sure she got it (or she was just refusing to comprehend what I was saying -- she does that sometimes). I suppose I could show her a few of the same videos I watched when I first heard about Bitcoin, but I'm not even sure she'd even really watch them. Any tips, guys?

Install a wallet for her, let her try to receive and send coins  Smiley That way is the most easy to understand it. She would understand a little bit about bitcoin from that, just enough to send/receive. If she is interested she will look up all the technical specifications on the web: decentralized networks, cryptocurrency etc.
If she wants to know more you could show her the paper, videos etc;
