921  Other / Politics & Society / Re: ISIS Leader is a Mossad trained agent? on: July 29, 2014, 04:50:47 PM
Trained yes but  clearly now beyond the influence of his former minders
You reap what you sow, serves the West and Israel right

It has happened earlier also.

In the 1980s, the CIA provided training and equipment to the Afghan Mujahideen. Later they metamorphosed themselves to the Al Qaeda / Taliban, targeting the same American soldiers who trained them.

And now the CIA was planning to use the ISIS against Assad in Syria. But they never imagined that ISIS will attack the US-allied forces in Iraq.

Yes, they were known as 'anti-soviet freedom fighters'. There are still newspaper copies of that.
I think since the fall of the soviet union, the CIA is in need for new enemies to have a reason for existence.
922  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: No matter how much we love BTC, confirmations take way too long! on: July 29, 2014, 04:44:48 PM
Payment processors are the answer my mate.
You can also work with 'approved' addresses or something like that where a merchant trusts an address that has succesfully been used before.

It has been discussed over the years. Indeed what you state is the next step service providers can monopolies on.

However as Litecoin is another network that is used for payment at merchants and with the advent of scrypt asics that network will show more promise for fast stable transactions.

Bitcoin transactions are extremely fast, if you consider the slow banking system. The litecoin network may be faster, but it doesn't have such a large user base.
923  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How do I use bitcoin if I have no internet? on: July 29, 2014, 04:05:38 PM
If the internet goes down so does bitcoin though, am I right?

The internet is such a large network, it is impossible to take down now. The computers in the internet can work independently of each other, and on a local area we simply call them networks.  Also most of the economy would stop, many companies depend on the internet. The event of internet going down is very unlikely to happen.
924  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Facebook's BUY button! Bitcoin's big moment is here on: July 29, 2014, 03:51:14 PM
Just imagine you sell or buy with just a click on facebook using bitcoins, This is an opportunity bitcoin should grab, and facebook should not miss!

Facebook is testing a way for advertisers to make the direct sales pitch to people, and it could be a game-changer for advertisers and retailers. Through the Buy button, users can complete a transaction while staying in Facebook.

http://www.insidefacebook.com/2014/07/23/the-buy-button-facebooks-next-big-thing/

I never used facebook nor seen the need of it - but I think it's not going to happen for the simple reason that in their business model you are the product, not the customer.
But with or without their acceptance, the bitcoin network is growing. There used to be a time where 1 btc was worth 0.07$

It just sucks because we don't have a 20 billion dollar news media(or whatever the heck it is) giving us good PR. You know? So I guess we gotta do all we can, grass roots movement with some financial backing and believers. CoinDesk is helpful for sure, but sometimes a little off putting for my tastes. I feel like CoinDesk talks at a higher level so a normal person wouldn't really want to read anything there. I was off put by CoinDesk in the beginning days of my discovering Bitcoin because I didn't really understand anything I was reading there. It is fine we got technical details and blah there, but they need some more Joe Schmo dumbing down of articles for the (dumb)masses. lol.
There was a talk on this by Andreas Antonopoulos just recently. Usually when a revolutionary technology comes along the majority of people fail to see it..
This happened with the telegram, the telephone, the internet and now with bitcoin.
926  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: 21 reasons why bitcoins are better than dollars! [VIDEO] on: July 29, 2014, 03:30:20 PM
Video is down. Youtube is starting to be like Google adsense, show anything somewhat sexy and your account is already in danger of being taken down.

Youtube is owned by Google, as far as I know. Its full of censored and deleted videos. I don't think they took the video down because of bitcoin in it, as they have incorporated btc/usd in their search engine.

927  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Opinion on the US on: July 29, 2014, 01:38:10 PM
As a citizen I can say that the government no longer represents the people.  The U.S has taken on the role of "big brother" in the world and now is expected to resolve problems everywhere when we do nothing for our own issues.  There is constant conflict both in and of itself and worldwide!  Non-stop fraud and criminal investigations from the top to the bottom and never any punishment!

I'll second this.  US citizen born and raised but I don't feel like the government has my best interests at the top of their agenda - I think their more interested in keeping personal power to live like little kings of their fiefdoms with the POTUS as emperor.

I mostly agree with you both, but I have to disagree on your representation of the president as being the "emperor" - as far as I can tell, he's mostly a puppet, with the real "emperors" being those that financed his campaign (by the way, I don't mean this just about the current president).

Our government is like a store, the ones with the money have the power. The US president is in a way living like a king, but the "emperors" are the ones with the most money.
928  Economy / Speculation / Re: $10,000 when? on: July 29, 2014, 01:14:45 PM
10K Is not possible. Quantum computers will destroy bitcoins. These computers will be 1000 times faster than current super computer.

Bitcoin is still evolving, there are many coders at work and if a quantum computer will ever put at risk its integrity, they will fix the problem.
Here is a link which can be useful if you want to know more about it:

http://www.bitcoinnotbombs.com/bitcoin-vs-the-nsas-quantum-computer/

Quantum computers are not quite there yet, even the NSA doesn't have them yet.
Also agree with OP, there would simply be a new bitcoin protocol.
929  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Kurdistan has been "occupied" by Turkey and Arab states for a century on: July 29, 2014, 01:08:42 PM
Where is the international condemnation or flotillas of supplies to come to their aid? Where is the daily twitter outrage and condemnation of the "Ottoman entity" for denying the Kurdish people THEIR freedom?

There is no financial benefit in supporting this, so I don't think it will get military support. Kurdistan has always been occupied and in the eyes of Turks or Arabs, the Kurds are simply terrorist. As for the west, for example the PKK is listed as a terrorist organization internationally by several states and organizations, including NATO, the United States, and the European Union. In short, an outrage is unlikely to happen.

«People come from various countries. Finland, Norway, Sweden, England, France, Italy… We do not take fanatics and extremists. We need people with military experience, professionals. We are not fighting for NATO or for the European Union, we have no interest in politics. Every day I get about 15 letters from those who want to come to Ukraine to fight. We all are aware that there is a war, and every day you can be injured or killed, «said Gaston Besson.

Is there any evidence for this? I've never heard about this rumours and I think it's propaganda. It makes no sense, these people could simply go into the Ukraine - they don't need to pay.

being in a European jail is better than being gunned down by a tank.

Being in a (Western) European jail is much different than ending up in an Israeli prison or an American one. In the first type, you can pass your time by playing Xbox and Nintendo. However, no such luxuries in other parts of the world.

Very true, I've heard the Norwegian prisons are the most luxury of all.

933  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2014-07-29] Apple Allows the World’s Most Popular Bitcoin Wallet Back Into Its on: July 29, 2014, 11:35:27 AM
http://www.wired.com/2014/07/blockchain-back/?mbid=social_twitter

The news arrived on the heels of Apple approving a newer wallet app called Coinpocket for inclusion in the App Store, and for Blockchain CEO Nicolas Cary, this proves that Coinpocket is no fluke. That’s a big deal for the world of bitcoin, a currency that exists only on the internet, independent of governments and free from the control of big banks. The currency entered the consciousness of the general public last year—in a very big way—but has since struggled to significantly expand its reach, due to various setbacks. Maybe the iPhone and the iPad can help restart its engines.

I think it's a good news for the bitcoin community and perhaps this will influence the market price. It seems to me kind of odd that at first Apple had been so bullish on Bitcoin, and now seems more open to it. I think other companies will follow this trend.

All seem to be related to http://www.coinbox.me/

http://www.xbt.biz/index.php - doesn't work, always returns "An unknown error occurred while processing your request. Try again!"

I never got paid from these faucets, perhaps all of the listed faucets above are frauds.  I don't use faucets anymore - the return on investment is just very low, but I think they are useful for beginners in the bitcoin community. You can get 0.0001 B per week or something along those lines from a faucet  Smiley
935  Other / Off-topic / Re: Is it possible to Hack a Server with all incoming ports closed? on: July 28, 2014, 04:58:13 PM
Thats the point. As we have all the ports closed, we really cant figure out what else to do. You specify rules when you have some incoming ports open, but with all the ports closed, we would like some sort of advice. We will be getting a pen testing done next week but we wanted to do whatever we can by then to ensure we can pass. Any advice would be appreciated. We are running jboss, bitcoind, armory and mysql on the server with no requirement for any incoming port.

Thanks.

With all ports closed, there's no much attacking the machine - it has to be connected to the network or at least a router.
An attacker could potentially get access to the router and do some packet sniffing, i.e. a MITM attack - not sure if they'd get anything from that in this case though.
936  Other / Politics & Society / Re: All illegals deserve to be deported. on: July 28, 2014, 04:17:12 PM
I think fair solution is to deport all immigrants and their off-spring.

These guys agree!

Historical pwnage Tongue *high fives*

What 'Americans' who rant about immigration like to forget is their ancestors were originally immigrants to begin with.

+1
The US is full of immigrants and their offspring in the first place. Many of us Americans are still illusionary that we are going to be the wealthiest place for the next 50 years.
937  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Kayne west sues altcoin on: July 28, 2014, 04:10:11 PM
How about Biebercoin BRC, chance to survive?

I think the guy is too full of himself to notice it, once his market department finds out they'll make a decision.
Probably they would do the same as Kayne, but you never know.
938  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Anita Sarkeesian - Feminist Frequency - Donating in Bitcoin on: July 28, 2014, 03:58:13 PM
I would like to be able to donate in Bitcoin to Anita Sarkeesian...

Anita is sexist against men to an absolute extreme, and one of the biggest hypocrite you can find on the internet. She says that if a man is saving a woman in a video game, then it must mean that the woman is portrayed as totally helpless. She also says that if a woman is the hero and sacrificing her safety to save others, then the game is promoting violence towards women. Nothing that Anita says ever holds true across any of her claims. No matter what happens in a game, it is always portraying women badly from her warped perspective. It is the classic "have your cake and eat it too" example of a hypocrite. Sorry, you just can't have it both ways, ever.

You seem to have fallen for the neo-liberal fallacy, in that, because there exist 50% women in the population, that all jobs, hobbies, and sports should consist of 50% women. By your logic, 50% of Alaskan crab fishing should be female, 50% of bodybuilders should be female, and 50% of preschool teachers should be male. What you fail to understand is that men and women are measurably different. Men are physically stronger, taller, and cannot give birth. There are a multitude of factors that go into the gender imbalance throughout all jobs, hobbies, and sports. If you cannot acknowledge basic reality, then please don't go around spreading your illogical nonsense.

There is no worldwide conspiracy or some unspoken code that men who use bitcoin live by in order to keep women out. Women are the reason that there are not more women bitcoiners. When they see that it can benefit them, more women will join the cause. That is where you come in. Instead of running around and pointing your hateful fingers at every man in the world, how about you actually do something positive and help get more women involved? Or do you just want to spread hatred like Anita?

These are some good points. I think the 50% selection is not good, you simply need good people for the job - or to let people do what they want. I do not think we need more feminism now in todays society - rather we need to be ourselves and understand woman and men are different.
939  Other / Off-topic / Re: Is it possible to Hack a Server with all incoming ports closed? on: July 28, 2014, 03:44:22 PM
So that's what I am asking, other than closing ALL the incoming ports, what else can be done to prevent hacking? Anything?

Look for which software stack you are running, look for exploits for your system, if there are updates - install them.
Install a firewall, iptables or something along those lines - monitor every request to your system, FreeBSD style  Smiley
940  Other / Meta / Re: Stop quote pyramids ? on: July 28, 2014, 03:23:57 PM
I'm not fond of this way of this quoting pyramid either, I think they could be tabbed with each quote - it would be easier to read.
In that way it doesn't have to be limited, but it would be very easy to read along.
