His net worth is estimated at $8.8 billion right now, and this settlement means that his wife will be richer than him and he loses the custody of his younger daughter. Would like to hear opinions from others.

Given that he still has a lot of money, I dont think it would be a problem for him to stay alive. Marriage is a legal contract, and sometimes legal contracts have big financial cost when broken.

I have been smoking for ages.

Does anyone have a secret how i can finally stop?

Addiction is difficult, because for a large part its mentally. First prepare your mind. Its easy to fall into old habits and so easy to regret.
Ive heard many people use chewing gum as an alternative;

Alternative: move to a very cold country, where going outside to smoke freezes your *ss off  Cheesy

So about 3 months back I ordered $100 in BTC from Coinbase and transfered those coins to a wallet on my desktop. Then for some reason my laptop wouldn't boot into windows anymore. It just shows a black screen. I recently got a macbook, and I've tried hooking the hard drive up to the mac and also another desktop PC but I can navigate into the user profile on the hard because it was password protected. Is there anyway I can get passed this to recover the wallet.dat file? Anything would help I would hate to see this money go to waste.

Yes, you can access your windows harddrive (all your files) using a linux live cd or live usb.  This includes inside your user files.

These are the steps:
1. Get a usb drive (cost about $5 to $10 in a store)
2. Download http://unetbootin.sourceforge.net/  its a program that puts linux on usb
3. Select a distribution. Pick an easy one with graphical interface.  For example,  you could take the Ubuntu iso. Prepare for a short learning curve on the graphics interface, it is a little different from windows

4. Select your usb drive
5. Press ok. The program will now start downloading the linux, after that it will install it to the usb.
6. Restart your PC.
7.  (If you are lucky you can skip this step) Press F12 or F2, you will go into a program called BIOS.  Its a boring text program where you can add boot order
 set to USB boot first.
8.  Select Live CD. Try ubuntu without installing

9. You will then see a screen like this
http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-P926BEXnarQ/UlEzEUtwChI/AAAAAAAAiwk/72MltC20ho0/s1600/UEFI_Ubuntu_LiveMedia_Desktop.jpg

press on the file archive. Go to your disk drive. Into C:\Users\Yourname\... (wherever you keep your wallet). Copy it into the usb
10. finished, you have your wallet file on the usb  Smiley

Ive heard rumors about Facebookcoin and Amazoncoin. I even saw a job offer for Amazoncoin. They may well be making farmville coin. It would not be truly global, the Chinese ban Facebook and Russians/eastern europe uses VKontakte (its like facebook with infinite free music and different regulation).

Hope that such news will encourage others. Enough bad publicity for BTC already!

This is very good news for BTC. People see potential in BTC and crypto, soon others will open their eyes and profit.  Smiley

My question is if u see something u would like to buy and this item is offered at a lower price if paid using bitcoins, providing that you don't already have a wallet or coins would you take the time to set up a wallet and buy bitcoins just to be able to receive a discount on the item u wish to purchase?
I believed atm most people would not bother and pay full price,
WHY IS THIS SO?

I bought various things with bitcoin, which would not have been possible without it. It provides me much freedom to buy things over the internet. I think cryptocurrency will make life much easier for all people, and will make people buy more things online.

when we already have crypto currencies, master cards, paypal and other shit, why do we use cash?

Because not every shop accepts bitcoin as of yet. The same applies to machines.. for example, various machines do not accept creditcards.
Cash has traditionally been used as currency, anyone from the youngest to the oldest can use it. Im not so sure a 7 year old can open a paypal or creditcard account.  Smiley

The Silk Road marketplace lives on, despite intense government efforts to stop it

There is a high demand to buy drugs, so there will always be sites/supplier.  In addition to SR, several other sites have opened (so I've heared).
Demand is high: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_prevalence_of_cocaine_use

This war on drugs really should end. It's pointless, it's like war on gravity.

1651  Economy / Speculation / Re: What is driving the price crazily up???? on: May 21, 2014, 04:57:47 PM
The price is really rising, im not sure what causes it. I think there are many causes that come together, which in result make the price go up. Perhaps the Ukraine situation is also one of the reasons.

They dont even know how to use the internet only maybe kim jung il.

There are some smart people in north korea, some received education/training abroad. So some people know how to use it.
Nevertheless 'money' in itself is pretty much illegal in north korea, i.e. street markets are often shutdown when they get too big according to the regulators.
Let alone they would develop a crypto-currency;

I'm increasingly seeing people use the "bit" unit, how much is 1 bit? I've never seen this unit explained.

The 'bit' unit has not been around so long. There was a thread on this forum about it earlier.   https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=592691.0;topicseen    Its much much less than 1 BTC, I think 0.000001 BTC per bit.

You should not confuse it with computer bits, which are simply a model for high (1) / low (0).

I think that is going to ruin the btc market! !!

The Chinese government want to ban again? nobody take them serious anymore, we hear it for 5 months already.
Chinese investors with a lot of money would simply find a way around (i.e. invest from another country), this wont stop their bussines  Smiley

One of the small market coins could pay off if you are day trader.  They can fluctuate heavily in market price, some have risen up to 80% today. You may want to look on coinmarketcap.com

For long term, I think a big market cap is neccesary. Bitcoin currently has the highest market cap 90% of the total market.

What are the minimum requirements for selling your signature space to advertisers?  I'm curious as to how this actually works and if you actually get paid? All it basically comes down to is, your promoting they're services right?

If you are a newbie there are no signature programs. You could try a referral link which earns per click;
I think I have seen some for Jr. Members;

If you are a member you have several signature programs with different payout programs. Some are pay per post, others are a static amount of money. For example, Ritz, in my signature pays per post. The requirements are just to become a member. To become a member all you need is to wait about ~2 months (stay logged in on the site for as long as possible) and post occasionally  Smiley

360s, I remember that times without any longing.

But could be worse, there was a time where newbies were confined to post only in the newbie section

Yes, i remember. Thats called Newbiejail  Grin

Around which time was this? The newbiejail didnt exist about 3 months ago  Smiley

Yeah!!!!15 activities here I come!!!!
And no more 360sec. Pleeeaseee I hate that ;$

The waiting time will decrease in time. In about 2-3 months you can be a member and forget waiting time even exists  Smiley
