1261  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why 51% hashrate is a good thing on: June 13, 2014, 02:02:37 PM
May I understand, why there is a panic of 51% hash rate reached, I still can't get the point.

if a single entity contributed the majority of the network’s mining hashrate, they would have full control of the network and would be able to manipulate the public ledger (blockchain) at will.  http://learncryptography.com/51-attack/

GHash is at 45% now  https://blockchain.info/pools?timespan=6hrs

don't forget your password, cheers  Smiley
1263  Other / Off-topic / Re: Getting a parental control for my 5 year old on: June 13, 2014, 01:54:40 PM
Does anyone recommend a good parental control that comes with games and preapproved sites for children?

Why not get some console or handheld for games? you can select the games  Smiley
There are tons of pc games and toys like http://tuxpaint.org/

As for the internet, I don't think a 5 year old is very interested in that. Maybe youtube or wikipedia
1264  Other / Politics & Society / Re: What good things has Obama had since he is elected ? on: June 13, 2014, 01:46:42 PM
Good question, I think he achieved many things. For example, he has some new suits and experience in doing speeches.
Its likely he has a new car too  Smiley

I think he will achieve new relations with Russia (as in, trying to start a war on several 'playgrounds'. Ukraine and others;)

1265  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Delegates begin planning for changes to U.S. Constitution on: June 13, 2014, 01:34:51 PM
I think this may lead to good things and/or bad things. What are your thoughts?

Quote
INDIANAPOLIS | Representatives and senators from 29 states met Thursday in the Indiana Statehouse to begin planning for the first state-led revisions to the U.S. Constitution since the nation's fundamental governing document was enacted in 1789.

This can lead to very bad things.  Simply throw the 225 year old constitution over board, and for what? The Germans also once changed the constitution  Roll Eyes

Do you buy bitcoins with actual US dollars ?
Yes, you can buy bitcoins with US dollars (and vice versa).

What sites/stores even take it .. ?

The number of stores are increasing. This site lists a ton of them http://coinmap.org/
There are also creditcards which allow payment in fiat using bitcoin.
In addition, there are services (jobs) which you can do for bitcoins. One of these is a signature track, which pays for posting on this forum  Smiley

Im really just hoping someone will be kind enough to give me the quick basic of how this works. Thanks so much !

First, you need a wallet to keep your money in. A wallet is a computer program, which kind of mimics a real life wallet.
Here is a list of wallets https://bitcoin.org/en/choose-your-wallet  I would suggest a desktop wallet for security reasons.

Once installed, you will get a bitcoin address. This address is a unique number, which you can use to receive bitcoins.
To send bitcoins, you need someone elses bitcoin address.

Biggest one is owned by a russian company....

Don't you ever get bored with your anti western propaganda?

Lukoil is owned by a Muslim Azerbaijani, who has very close links to some of the American and British politicians. Azeris are one of the best allies of the US, in the FSU region. Real Russian companies such as Rosneft, Tatneft and Bashneft were ignored without any reason in favor of the American companies when the Iraqi fields were distributed.

Twist it lol

Lukoil CEO  is Vagit Alekperov and is an Azerbaijani and Russian businessman and currently a President of the leading Russian oil company LUKOIL. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vagit_Alekperov  I cannot confirm nor deny US ties

Why don't you just use skype? It is sufficient enough. Only Microsoft can steal your data...

I don't like Microsoft guys sniffing in my talks

Mass data storing in mass storage that no one really care except data mining AI.

My conversations are of financial interest. AI would likely pick them out Smiley

In the movie, something went wrong. So the guy travels back in time to fix it.  Smiley
1271  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Diamonds for Bitcoins on: June 12, 2014, 08:29:26 PM
I will be getting married this year,  and will need to buy a diamond ring.
No, you choose to buy a diamond ring. There is no need. it's a (very wasteful) ritual you are choosing to engage in, like marriage and reproduction.

Agree, $50.000 for a ring is crazy.. you must truly be in love  Cheesy
1272  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: This girl is really dedicated to bitcoin... [NSFW Image] on: June 12, 2014, 08:09:23 PM
she really got 43 bitcoin for that picture? wow. The generosity of this community is REAL.

She done this for advertising and she is succeeded to catch the intention of some generous bitcoin peoples  Wink

I think I'm getting a tattoo with bitcoin address too.. only problem is I'm not a girl  Cheesy

I had always wondered why it was called 'Pussy Riot'. Never thought I'd see a woman trying to put a chicken in her vagina.
1274  Other / Off-topic / Re: Best Softwares For Keeping PC Secure ? on: June 12, 2014, 06:33:45 PM
I don't use any. I go in bareback,
Just hope you won't regret it in some point of time..! with people always tring to invade your Security privacy and all.. its wiser to have some kind of security to protect yourself online.

I use Ubuntu I'm sure I'll be fine.

This is only true for now.

As soon as the market share is big for Ubuntu, hackers will target the platform and find way to exploit it.

It's much harder to target a Linux box. Mainly because most people install software only from a pre-burned DVD or CD.
1275  Other / Off-topic / Re: I'm in love! on: June 12, 2014, 06:25:37 PM
Better to have loved and lost than to have never loved at all.  Good luck you man-whore you Smiley

No, better to be with 41 year old, 18 year old and the 24 year old at same time  Grin
1276  Other / Politics & Society / Re: What happens in the government if Bitcoin takes over? on: June 12, 2014, 06:15:21 PM
Ok, great answers. Now let's see the other side of it. What would governments do without tax money to keep control over the people? Would it be supported by voluntary contributions or such?

They would send men in blue shirts to your house to collect tax.
1277  Economy / Economics / Re: Worst bitcoin decision you've ever made? on: June 12, 2014, 06:13:19 PM
When price of Litecoin went to 36$ in January, I don't convert it in Bitcoin.

Now, I would have double of Bitcoin  Angry Angry

I remember this, I was holding litecoins.. the litecoins went back to $10 shortly after.  Price is still around $10;
1278  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Is it bad to withdraw the minimum amount of ~5,500 satoshis? on: June 12, 2014, 06:10:45 PM
my 2c: go with a signature campaign.  Not only do they typically pay better over time but it's a much better way for you to get up to speed on all things crypto-related at the same time.  Not learning a whole helluva lot if your just clicking mostly-useless sites all day long and entering captcha codes.

I like to call it the "Learn and Earn Program" Wink

I agree with this post, sig campaigns pay way more. With faucets you are lucky to get 0.0001 to 0.0005 BTC in a week, sig campaigns pay that per post.

1279  Other / Off-topic / Re: ubuntu help on: June 12, 2014, 04:38:33 PM
You shouldn't use Ubuntu because of privacy issues.

Privacy issues? I am unaware of any and I'm kind of a Linux geek. (Of course, I use Linux Mint myself.)

As far as installing Virtual Box on an Ubuntu machine goes, here's a couple of decent tutorials:
http://www.virtualbox.org/manual/ch02.html#install-linux-host
http://www.linux.com/learn/tutorials/736984-install-linux-virtualbox-tips

i have followed these
sudo dpkg -i VirtualBox-3.2_4.3.12_Ubuntu_raring_i386.deb
and then i got
dpkg: error processing archive VirtualBox-3.2_4.3.12_Ubuntu_raring_i386.deb (--install):
cannot access archive: No such file or directory
Errors were encountered while processing:

i followed the first instruction like this one
sudo apt-get install dkms

am i missing something here?

Probably the auto-update in Ubuntu and the Unity searches being sent to Amazon.
Are you in the right directory? find out with 'pwd' and 'ls'. Either that or the package is not installed correctly.
You may want to try apt-get install virtualbox* or find a tar.gz archive
1280  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Yahoo Finance & Google Finance now showing Bitcoin price on: June 12, 2014, 01:46:15 PM
Google should be ashamed, they should have been one of the first ones in the bandwagon.

Google too big to fall?  No, they likely will fall too until someone comes up with a more intuitive and accurate search platform.

At the time ~ 1 to 2 years ago, Eric Schmidt told he was not in a need for money when Julian told him about Bitcoin.
Don't feel bad if you didn't jump directly on the bandwagon, even Google missed it  Smiley
I think in the future we might see $1000 or $4000 per BTC
