i find it so weird that russia has been pretty anti bitcoin with its laws and regulations,  yet a news outlet owned by russia promotes bitcion.  Go figure Smiley

I have already posted about this many times. Russia is not anti-Bitcoin. I have many friends in Russia and they have never ever faced any difficulty from the part of the authorities. A number of Bitcoin exchanges and other businesses are currently operating from Russia as well.

I think you're right. Russia is anti-American. Anything that has the potential to fuck up the USA is going to give the Russians a massive boner.

yes, they promote an negative image against the US gov. The US media in term promotes a negative image of the Russians.

Prince Charles seems to have lost his mental balance completely. It is becoming increasingly evident, as seen from his recent public outings. His Putin-Hitler comparison is just another one in a series of PR disasters.

There have been a lot of Hitlers since WW2, Saddam was a Hitler, Ghadaffi, Assad, Ahmejhinidad (spelling?), Charlton Heston, Bush2, Putin and so on. The Hitler meme is kind of losing its impact.

1343  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Help for newbies with starting btc on: June 08, 2014, 03:55:42 PM
I think faucets are alright for newbies to get their first taste of the Bitcoin experience. After I downloaded my wallet, the first fraction of a bitcoin I earned from faucets. I spent an hour filling captchas and after reaching the minimum payout limit, I was able to get 5,000 satoshis. Later on I found out that the 5,000 satoshis I had was only worth about 3 cents and would probably cost more in fees to send but it was interesting to see how the whole thing worked.

Then of course I bought a proper amount of bitcoins from an exchange. My ultimate goal is to have 1 bitcoin. I am already about 25 percent there!

So yeah, faucets aren't all that bad.

And remember when faucets used to give away whole bitcoins? Well, if the Bitcoin market cap reaches a level similar to gold in the future then each bitcoin should be worth $300,000. If it replaces fiat entirely then each bitcoin should be worth $1 million. Those 5,000 satoshis would then be worth $15.00-$50.00. Not too bad for an hour's work!
The problem is we won't see that happening. Smiley

Why so? Many people on the forum speculate about such prices.

Turkey has weapons of mass destruction tho  Roll Eyes

Turkey is just a NATO nuclear weapons sharing state. That means that there are a number of nuclear weapons (around 70) located in its territory, but they are not under the control of the Turkish Armed Forces. Those weapons are located in the Incirlik Air Base, and under the control of the 39th Air Base Wing of the United States Air Force.

This is why I hate the American judicial system so much. If a normal person had committed the same crime, he must have got a minimum of 20 years without parole. 60 days in jail? What a joke?

Indeed, this is very sick.  60 days is only ~ 2 months. Given that he is a billionaire, 60.000$ is nothing.
Perhaps the judge was bought off, or is a paedophile.
1347  Other / Meta / Re: WARNING - Fake (spoofed) emails appearing to originate from "bitcointalksupport" on: June 08, 2014, 12:37:17 PM
I get so many of these similar emails from all over.. blockchain.info, spendbitcoins etc they are all spoofed and wth a .jar vrus but annoying.
I can imagine quite alot of people probably do get fooled Sad

I think many people do not have Java installed on their machines, but I could be wrong.

Will we loose BTC if it have BTC stealing viruses?  Roll Eyes

The idea is, after the user open this virus. The virus will send your btc to another address (steal).
If you just ignore these mails you wont have any problems.

1348  Other / Off-topic / Re: Where is Mark Karpeles? on: June 08, 2014, 12:26:15 PM
How dear Mark to do this, his identity is in public but I still hope he wont deal with a psycho who had a lot of bitcoins at Mtgox because If he do he would be sorry of what he have done.

Perhaps he got a new identity, as a lot of people are probably after him.

1350  Bitcoin / Press / [2014-06-06] La Maison du Bitcoin hosts the first French bitcoin hackathon on: June 08, 2014, 12:08:56 PM
Quote
La Maison du Bitcoin is hosting the very first French bitcoin hackathon. It will take place on June 13-14-15th in the brand new coworking space, 35 rue du Caire, 2nd arrondissement of Paris.

Many entrepreneurs are thinking about working on bitcoin projects in France, but so far only a dozen startups have been launched. The goal of this hackathon is to create a first spark in the French ecosystem and to offer visibility for the actors who wish to be a part of it. But above all, this hackathon will be the occasion to form great teams for potential bitcoin businesses.

I am very excited to see what projects will be created thanks to this event: a bitcoin hackathon is the perfect way to showcase bitcoin as an application platform. Beyond new payment methods, the bitcoin protocol makes it possible to transfer property rights in an unforgeable and transparent way. Property rights can refer to digital money indeed, but also to shares or any kind of certificates.

Here are a few examples of what could be created on top of the protocol:

Micropayment based applications – incentivised open wifi hotspots, pay-per-second ad free radio, etc
Smart contracts: building a crowdfunding platform completely managed through the bitcoin network
Hardware applications: physical locker or door controlled by the bitcoin blockchain

Average salary in moscow is $200-$500, whereas average salary in germany is around $2000.

Do you always talk this BS, or do you take a rest in between those volleys?

Moscow Monthly Wage on Average $1,800

http://www.themoscowtimes.com/business/article/moscow-monthly-wage-on-average-1800/487138.html

Have a look here : http://www.worldsalaries.org/russia.shtml
And here https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_average_wage

Keep in mind Moscow is not representative for all of Russia. Moscow is expensive for many Russians.
Average wage $1,215 - its much lower than average wage in Germany $2,720. Ok I was a bit off, but the salary is way lower;
1352  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Gun homicides down dramatically, Americans unaware on: June 08, 2014, 11:37:44 AM
Homicides rates: United States   4.8[9] Germany   0.8

What do Germans have to do with concealed carry in Texas?

Just to show how much lower gun homicide rate has to go down to come even close to a normal country.
For all the gun fanatics that say everybody carrying guns actually prevent crimes.

Population estimates:
Germany : 80,585,700
Texas : 26,448,193
USA : 316,128,839

It would be more fair to compare the homicide rates of Germany to Texas than all of the states.

Do you have a clue what those numbers are and what homicide rate means?
4.8 and 0.8  are number or murders per 100 000 pop.
So , size is irrelevant.

But , let's do it against Texas based on all the crimes :
Germany 690 total crimes , Texas 1,248.
Twice the number at 1/3 population?

Ah figures.yes, the number of crimes in Texas is much higher.  Or, the German police force is not detecting enough crimes, but  I think it is the first.

Didn't you guys watch the new Robocop movie? It shows how the US will pacify Iran with their army of robots.

The problem with Iran is that unlike Iraq, that nation possesses advanced ICBMs and other weapons. And with Armed Forces currently numbering in their millions, an invasion of Iran could become the costliest ever war waged by the Americans.

"Advanced ICBM's?" How about no ICBM's.

The problem for US citizens is not about ICBM's (whether they have them or not) but about the general attitude towards the US. The US gov. attitude is pretty much the same if you are in Iran. It kind of reminds me of the Iraq story  "The nation possesses weapons of mass destruction and other weapons. And with Armed Forced currently numbering in their millions..."

No. He is OK.
Preparing surprises.

He admits that he is losing the battle, as his troops don't have any artillery or air-power. The rebel fighters are unable to take out the artillery guns, as they are located some 2+ km away from the city.

He didn't admit he's losing the battle. The purpose of that article was propaganda against Poroshenko, that the Ukrainians were still bombarding even with his election to the Presidency so he was painting the situation in such a way that they were the underdogs & they will still be the underdogs with the coming President. It was an article meant to gain sympathy from Russian readers, but do you really believe they will not come ahead in this situation considering they are near Russia? You can actually feel the quite confidence in Strelkov.

I am new in this thread but I found myself rooting for the rebels. I just read that Russia is now the richest country in Europe by GDP-PPP (purchasing power parity, which is the most accurate measurement of wealth). THe GDP-PPP of Russia for 2013 is $3.4 trillion vs. Germany's $3.3 trillion, then Russia is the biggest luxury-market in Europe, then here come these unlucky Russians who because who found themselves trapped with the poor Ukrainians (GDP of Ukraine is $175 billion which is Africa level). Just imagine being separated by your family which is now flying high & only a border separate them from your misery (salary in Russia is 4-10x that of Ukraine)!!

Most Russians do not have access to this large pile of money.  Many Russians still live on just a few money on a farm. You may be lucky to earn $400 a month in Russia;

Ukraine is currently being invaded by foreign countries (US, Russia etc) and so their average salary is likely to go lower.

Be careful of extensions, many people got hacked that way.

True, I have read about people losing btc because of a chrome extension. Sometimes they do contain spyware, the best thing to do is to use them on another device that does not keep your btc, or, inspect the source code.
1358  Economy / Speculation / Re: A solution to volatility. on: June 08, 2014, 10:38:03 AM

The solution is simple. Use the gold model. Only allow whole bitcoins to be sold. Precious metal markets sort of work this way.

Its an interesting idea, but I do not think this is a good idea. Bitcoin is deflationary, in the long term the price will go up. For this reason it is a necessity that smaller units can be used.

In Russia, afaik, people deal with laws somewhat differently. For example, it is common to pay an officer a cheaper ("black market") price than an official government parking bill. Of course, this may depend on if you are in Moscow or one of the smaller villages.

They are funded by the Russian government.
