Everything changes, the climate included. The climate change deniers have financial interest.
1282  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Losers on: June 12, 2014, 01:36:47 PM
Anyone else feel like one of the bitcoin losers? We hear a lot about all the winners, now including some 15 year old child, but very little on the currency's losers. I got swept up in the mania last November and dared to invest my life saving into purchasing 1 bitcoin, just as it was near peak. That turned out to be a terrible purchase for me as the value dropped since, so bitcoin has only ever lost me money. Anyone else in my boots? I'd still like more bitcoins but going on my past 6 months my confidence and trust in this new currency has been shattered.   Cry

Invest in the long term. If you really believe in bitcoins, you should actually hold it out for years until the world adopts it. That's the "gamble" or "speculation" many of us are banking on.

Gold and silver were in similar situations up until 2000ish. Then it went from 200-300$ to almost 5 times that 10-11 years later. But it did just basically sit there for almost all that time.

With that said, I was foolish like you and invested money I couldn't afford on other investments (stock options, calls puts, ponzi schemes ,etc).

Everyone goes through that get-rich quick scheme phase. Hopefully you take this as a lesson and get a job/start a business.

It's best to make these kinds of mistakes now while it's still small and you have time/youth to recover.

Don't hammer yourself too much.

2-5 years is also pretty quick to be rich. Shorter than that is very very hard. I would not suggest ponzis.

You can burn an iso to a cd or create a usb disk drive. Open the bios when the pc starts, F2, F8 or F12 key.
Then change the boot order. Linux should then boot from the cd/usb

1285  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Is it bad to withdraw the minimum amount of ~5,500 satoshis? on: June 12, 2014, 12:22:34 PM
Usually the smallest transaction you can send or receive is about 5,500 satoshis. With faucets like freebitco.in, the minimum withdrawal amount is roughly this amount. Same goes for most other faucets as well as ones which use coinbox.me and microwallet.org. However I believe you can continue increasing your faucet balance past this if the auto-withdraw option is turned off. I've heard that acculmulating very small transactions in your wallet is a bad idea because they would cost more in fees to send, essentially rendering them worthless. So is it bad to withdraw the minimum amount when using faucets? Would it be a better idea to withdraw once you reach 20k+ satoshis instead?

Transaction fee may be higher than 5500 satoshi, depending on the site and which wallet you use. It depends on that.
For example, if the fee is 4000 satoshi, it is better to wait;

BTC atm in Africa, hard to imagine what gonna happen, but I dont think it will help people there

It reminds me of the talk about Kenya. Mobile payments are very big in africa, one of the biggest payment processors is Mpesa but they have a fee of 9%. Bitcoin fee is much much lower, so it could be a good alternative.
1287  Other / Politics & Society / Re: What happens in the government if Bitcoin takes over? on: June 12, 2014, 09:33:01 AM
It is as hard to collect tax from Bitcoin as from physical cash, so I dont see a big problem here.

Very true, that's why many governments force citizens to have bank accounts. Nevermind that banks caused the financial crisis  Roll Eyes

Hi everyone. Long story short: I've been in a bad place for a number of years. Just when I thought it was all getting better and I had a lot to look forward too, my Girlfriend of 6 year texts me on her way home from work telling me she doesn't want to be with me anymore. I had our engagement all planned out and the ring was paid for, I was so happy to think what was coming next. We were so tight, we had our whole life planned out, it was full of adventure and excitement.
Well it turns out she had been seeing my oldest friend for a couple of weeks. Everyone knew what was going on except for me. She's now hanging around with all of my friends, people I introduced her too.

Whatever you do today is important because you are trading your life for it.
Leave all of these people behind you, they are not worth your time.

Which chat programs are out there, which encrypt all data you send/receive?
I want to be in control of the keys, and preferably the software should be open source.

1293  Other / Off-topic / Re: Should it be legal to be high? on: June 11, 2014, 07:53:22 PM
It should be legal worldwide, because violence is much worse than smoking some plants.
In addition, the police has better things to do like to solve real crimes like murder;

They will remember the current policy like the burning of witches in ancient times.
1294  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Now thought crime is terror in U.S.? on: June 11, 2014, 07:35:39 PM
I think Snowden did a great job at telling the world about this information.
The more people know about this, the better.

Most people already know the government is spying on them.

Snowden just give the population the proof they need, and I do not think he did it to serve the general public. More likely a personal glory thing.

There is a difference between dragnet surveillance and spying.  What you write now online can affect your career in the future, your love life, your possibilities in the future, your business opportunities and your life.  Some humans have the ability to wiretap anywhere, and can go back 15 years in time. All your private conversations, everything critical you said, anything.. and they have the control of the media and interpretations. In other words, you are f****d if they want to.

He surely did not serve himself by leaving a 200.000 $ salary behind, think about it. That means he served the public, and is still doing so.
1295  Other / Off-topic / Re: [Philosophy] World in 100 years will look like .. on: June 11, 2014, 07:31:46 PM
There will be a power shift globally and another world war. After the war, we will have less liberty. Just like we had less liberty after the first and second world war. Some places will be in ruins, others will look very modern. Technology will progress like crazy, we will be able to talk with computers. Machines will record everything we do, all the time, no matter where we are. Police power will be increased. Anonymity and privacy will be a crime. The police will be able to detain you whenever they want, for whatever reason. TVs will have cameras inside them by default, just like many laptops have nowadays.
Sun will still keep shining, rain sometimes. Human nature will stay the same, but everything else will change. Technology, power, possibilities etc;

1297  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin 5 years from now on: June 11, 2014, 01:28:56 PM
In 5 years from now there is a high chance that Bitcoin will be replaced by a more evolving cryptocurrency, like:

Qora,
Simcoin,
NXT,
Etherium,
Safecoin,
eXo,
Monero,
eMunie (for total anonymity feature),
Credits and so on...

I seriously doubt it will be replaced in the next 5 years, the experiment is not finished.  Bitcoin will first rise to $10k and $100k  Smiley
I never even have heard of the coins you mentioned except NXT.
1298  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Now thought crime is terror in U.S.? on: June 11, 2014, 01:01:41 PM
We have gotten very Orwellian. The good news is that people are waking up to it.

I see no evidence of that. Snowden's revelations were met largely with yawns in the US. People are happy as tax cows, it's a comfortable life.

Comfortable but unfree.
One could say:

First they came for the Socialists, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Socialist.

Then they came for the Trade Unionists, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Trade Unionist.

Then they came for the Whistleblowers, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Whistleblower.

Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me

yes, it is possible but it is very slow. I experienced this a few times. It's better to wait;
