1061  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: SatoshiVote on: July 10, 2014, 07:49:45 PM
Our friend Rene made this cool crowdfunding site using Bitcoin. I mentioned it a bit on Bitcoin Magazine, and then he made the Georgia Straight! The concept is made possible by microtransactions, and there are 3 campaigns listed so far.

http://www.satoshivote.com/

I think it's a very good idea, but surprisingly only few campaigns right now. You may want to add categories or keywords to the campaign descriptions and a search option, because perhaps over time you'll have 200 campaigns running.
1062  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: day trading - what's the catch? on: July 10, 2014, 07:42:44 PM
what is day-trading?
Trading bitcoins on exchanges and trying to make a profit. I may be wrong.

you mean like, if there's a difference between one exchange and an another one?

for example bitstamp 620$ and mtgox 615$

and you buy on mtgox and sell on bitstamp?
Nope, that's called arbitrage trading. I think it is using strategies to know when to buy and sell and try to profit.

how can you know when the price is going up and down in the matter of 24h Cheesy

it's seems to me like gambling, I'd rather put my money in a casino Cheesy

You cannot know, only predict based on certain data. For example the past event 'silk road coins sold' could mean the price going down.
If you have an accurate model, you could have a good prediction - but it's still a risk.

1063  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Donetsk, Kharkov, Lugansk - way to Russia. on: July 10, 2014, 07:29:17 PM
It seems to me that the USA is the only country now who does not admit the truth - even UN hasn't foundany Russian soldier in Ukraine. The cannot endlessly deny that Poroshenko is killing his citizens now only because they do not like him and his policy.

They will try it, and so far it seems to be working. I think the US has other interests than peace in Ukraine;

1064  Other / Politics & Society / Re: North Korea threatens "merciless" response over Seth Rogen film on: July 10, 2014, 06:13:13 PM
I fully believe that Kim Jong-Un and his family have been a murderous catastrophe for the North Korean people, but it doesn't help that most of the attention it receives from the international community is made-up stories (the haircut, the flamethrower executions, feeding uncle to dogs etc.) that allow us to see the whole country as a slapstick, madcap bit of Bond villainy rather than the deliberate throttling of tens of millions of people.

I think that the media purposely makes it more 'exiting', after all, it's a good distraction from national problems.
Some stories are probably real, but both sides aren't showing what's really going on. Interestingly enough NK missles hit SK before, is  the SK radar / military technology not that advanced.. or is there another reason why they were not destroyed?

1065  Other / Politics & Society / Re: So.. Chase shutdown my College Checking account on: July 10, 2014, 07:12:19 AM
I'm 22 and I do local BTC transactions on the side.

**AUDIO**

http://vocaroo.com/i/s0u4rwNFT0A4

"I hate to say this, but it's best that you cooperate"

"Times have changed, to be honest with you, after 9/11 you have to disclose everything" (not in the audio, if someone really doesn't trust me on this part, I will upload it but it is hard to hear)

-Chase Manager

I was trying to do a withdraw at Chase, the teller called the manager over and she started taking a while. I asked if there was a problem, she wouldn't answer. I felt like I was being treated like a criminal.

The manager started asking me what I was going to do with my money, I politely told her that I value my privacy and would like to keep it to myself.

She told me that I am moving too much money for a college account and that college students usually do small transactions like food or books. She then brought up 9/11 and terrorism saying that they have to keep track of who has what money.

I have most of it recorded, but we are living in a total nanny state, it is disgusting.

In the end, she told me that they closed my account and that I would get a check in the mail with all of my money.

From now on, I am going to live on Cash and Bitcoin. I don't think I will be opening a banking account for a while. I know that might sound crazy, but I can manage.

Long live Bitcoin

ETA: I hope this is the right section

Sad that Chase does not support innovation. It is ridiculous that your account is blocked, as you are the owner of the money.
Do you at least get your money back?
1066  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Russian Federation under Ukrainian bombs. on: July 09, 2014, 07:43:02 PM
How did she end up in Russia?
With private jet.
Doesn't seem like a very bright idea to me.. was it a kamikaze mission?

Quote
But it is also possible that the shells were intentionally fired by rebels

LOL. Russians fire back too. But is not reported by Russian media.
There is any crazy, who will die under Russian artillery.

They are fighting some commercial/political war.  I wouldn't be too surprised if mass media soon reports about 'chemical weapons' and 'weapons of mass destruction'.
1067  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2014-07-08] Los Angeles Receives First Bitcoin ATMs in California Read more at on: July 09, 2014, 07:25:56 PM
http://usfinancepost.com/los-angeles-receives-first-bitcoin-atms-in-california-20872.html

Bitcoin users in Los Angeles will now be able to exchange digital currency for cash at two bitcoin-to-cash ATMs that opened in Los Angeles in late June. The ATMs, managed by Santa Monica bitcoin payment processor ExpressCoin, are both located in two Locali Conscious Convenience stores.
If someone can put one in LAX, that would be much more useful.

All international airports should have them. Store your funds when you depart and collect them in the form of local currency when you arrive. Fast, secure, and if priced correctly a lot cheaper than traditional currency exchanges.

I think the ideal situation would be where you can pay with bitcoin directly in any country of the world, as in a global currency.  In the case of exchanging in the country of arrival, you would still have fees from the machine there, but perhaps a lot less.
1068  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Palestinian boy Mohammed Abu Khdeir burned alive by Israeli extremists on: July 09, 2014, 07:22:08 PM
Anyone who is not Jewish are called Goyim (cattle), ie. sub-humans.  Non-Jews are animals designed by God to serve Jews.

Do you really believe that?

My intention in any case was to draw the principle of just and proportionate punishment from ancient Jewish law, not make judgements based on its entirety. As with any body of law, religion or philosophy, we should adopt the good, discard the bad and learn from both.

It seems you are right about this term http://www.thefreedictionary.com/goyim
Never heard of it before;

1070  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2014-07-09] 5,000 Terminals Across Ukraine Now Offer Bitcoin for Cash on: July 09, 2014, 07:08:55 PM
http://www.coindesk.com/5000-terminals-across-ukraine-now-offer-bitcoin-cash/

A nationwide network of more than 4,900 payment terminals in the Ukraine now allows customers to easily buy bitcoin for cash.

The network, which is operated by the country’s National Credit Bank, allows customers to buy vouchers for bitcoin from a new company called BTCU.

Is it at each of the 4.900 payment terminals? This would be very useful, but given the current situation in Ukraine I won't go on holiday there  Smiley

1073  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Rhode Island may use DNA to track students; Federal bill passes House on: July 09, 2014, 06:56:19 PM
DNA scanners will be common good in the future, much like a computer mouse.

Quote
Can be good or bad depending on how the information is being used.
Probably included in PRISM. Type your name, get your DNA (in addition to your private chats, photos, locations, emails, surfing history etc)

They are now predicting all kinds of things, like the world cup.
And it is apparently pretty damn accurate. Too bad that octopus died so we can't have a show down.

These predictive models are not new, machine learning has been around for a while  Wink
1077  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: On my journey to earn [btc] Newbie on: July 05, 2014, 11:51:31 AM
hitting faucets until you get 1? that might take a while..... Tongue
Not gonna happen within a foreseeable future, rather try PTC / earn sites if you're not gonna mine /

None of those will get you your first bitcoin either.

Say you earn 0.0000100 B per captcha. Then it would only be 100.000 captchas to type  Smiley yes. it's not the best way

1080  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Facebook reveals news feed experiment to control emotions on: July 04, 2014, 10:07:47 PM
This is what Britain First are doing on Facebook with their emotional posts in the process if promoting their extreme right wing agenda. However Facebook fail to remove them or are they complicit in the same vain?

Facebooks removes any content they want off the site, or don't want you to see.
