1501  Economy / Web Wallets / Re: Blockchain.info from 2015 on: April 08, 2020, 08:27:35 PM
Is anyone from blockchain.com contactable here? Their technical support is mostly replying with bots.

As far as I can tell there is no official blockchain.com/info channel here on the forum.

You can however ask either here or on the Wallet software board, but you'd have to provide more information about what you really want.
1502  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: [METASAFE] A standard for seed phrases on: April 08, 2020, 08:22:09 PM
I can guarantee you that nobody will store or read your data.

There is however a small problem with that sentence.

Promises/guarantees require trust, and seeds should be trusted to.... no one. Even if what you claim is true; there are way too many things that could go wrong in the process: the user may have a keylogger installed, he may be using some kind of public/open internet network... Even if the users doesn't loose the funds because you stole the seed, that user would have lost the funds because of your service (and some really bad security practices), and there'd be no way of knowing whether you were the ones responsible for that or not.

I rather have a "maybe not that secure" seed on a paper sheet inside a safe that is 10 meters below the ocean, than a "most likely compromised while making sure it's a safe seed" seed

Hmmmm, seems like it is.

I remembered that reply from the other day and didn't check the electrum site before answering; my bad.

PS: next time you post a link that initiates a download just by clicking it; indicate it, please.
1504  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Overview of trusted/recommended Translators on: April 08, 2020, 01:52:51 PM
I'd like to propose myself as a Spanish translator on the list; I have been doing it for the last 4 years, and even if I haven't been around bitcointalk for quite some time, I've been doing translations off-site to an NGO.

Latest translation on-forum: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5238387

PS: I can also translate into Basque, but I believe that is something that most users don't even know exists
1505  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: android 3.3.8 problem on: April 08, 2020, 01:47:31 PM
Are you sure about the version you are using?

When did you download your wallet?
3.3.8 is the latest version available for download by default since July 11 2019. If you downloaded your wallet after that date then most probably you got phished and downloaded a fake one.

OP is using mobile version of Electrum, and latest version for Android is 3.3.7.0 from July 3, 2019. According to everything he posted, we're pretty sure he didn't install a fake wallet - otherwise he would have been hacked long before April 3.

This is from a couple of days ago, and as you can read; the latest version for Android is 3.3.7.0. Check that before doing anything else to prevent loosing all your coins
1506  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: I have the wallet and password, but no seed or 3fa on: April 08, 2020, 01:41:24 PM
If you have an idea of the password and the json file you can brute force it. Download john the ripper from github to extract the hash then use hashcat to bruteforce the password. if its less that 6 characters will be very fast.

That makes really no sense for various reasons:

1) If you read correctly, the user HAS the wallet file AND the password, but lacks 2FA AND seed.

2)You don't need the 2FA to enter the wallet, but you need it to be able to send transactions

3)Even if he didn't have the password and buteforced it in a reasonable amount of time, he'd still need the 2FA token; because p2wsh key cannot be swept into other wallets.

Electrum 2FA works as if it was a ulti-sig wallet, so the problem is the same: the user has no seed to import into a non 2FA wallet to send the funds to another wallet.
1507  Economy / Gambling / Re: FreeBitco.in-$200 FreeBTC⭐Win Lambo🔥0.2BTC DailyJackpot🏆$32,500 Wager Contest on: April 08, 2020, 01:34:19 PM
I am a new user of freebitco. I created an account and deposit to join HI-LO and today I finished playing and exchanged reward points to be able to withdraw my btc. But I do not understand why my account was deleted from the system. I think the site needs to reconsider this issue because the withdrawal amount is too small and I use my only computer to execute the withdrawal order.

You really got 100K reward points only from the HI-LO game? that is some heavy betting... 0.5BTC so I don't really understand why you needed to exchange the reward points in order to withdraw funds, if the withdraw threshold is 30k satoshi...

What do you mean your account is deleted?

The most likely scenario is that he had more than 1 account under the same referal link, and that he used it to try to steal from the system. If he really did bet 0.5BTC, the referer got 0.002BTC+Reward points+Lottery tickets+participation in the contests.... Only from 1 account!

But let's wait on the Quinn to confirm that
1508  Other / Ivory Tower / Re: Covid-19 could have been a lot worse - could a blood poisoning virus end us? on: April 08, 2020, 01:26:38 PM
I think we could have taken a more recent example of a virus rather than going back to the 1600s, but since you've started the thread with that, I have correction to make. The bubonic plague was (is) a bacterial infection; and not a viric infection. The difference may seem futile, but from a biological viewpoitn, it's not. Bacteria are alive; viruses are not (they are DNA or RNA inside some lipid body).

Now, I'd take some more "recent" viric pandemic in order to compare the data. The perfect example of that is the HIV virus; responsible for AIDS.

Both pandemics had (still have) its greatest impact in Africa, and then spread to more "developed" countries.

The Medical Research Council Clinical Trials Unit from London did some research on that, and placed the death ratio on almost 41 pacients out of every 1000. So 4.1% before 1996. That number has decreased quite a lot in the last couple of years, since retroviral treatments are being more effective, and I recall a recent news article saying that there had been a person that got rid of the virus (first case).

That 4.1% might seems like a low number compared to the evola numbers you put, but there have been way more cases of HIV than of Ebola in developed countries, and thus, the higher mortality rate.

Apart from that, even if these all are viruses, they come from different families, so they are not really "the same" thing
1509  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: A little doubt about giveaway thread!! on: April 07, 2020, 11:04:31 PM
Does this mean that everyone who has participated in an airdrop will get temp or perma ban? Or airdrops or allowed in specific board? I am always confused with that discussion.

Quoting the answer mprep gave regarding the temp ban of users we've just talked about....

I usually ban users who participate in on-forum altcoin giveaways for 14 days. Considering that the thread was wrongfully posted in Games and Rounds (which doesn't change the fact that it's still against the rules), I can understand the ignorance of the rules related to the altcoin section but I cannot excuse it - hence a reduced ban duration for all participants. Unless there are circumstances I'm not aware of that would make this behavior not against (the spirit of) the rules, I do not intend to change my decision.

Hope that helps you

It's a locked thread, so I had to randomly choose a date on the quote

Quote
From what i can understand, if the giveaway is posted in the wrong board, participants will be banned?
You know what? This is horrible.
I can guess almost all users joined airdrops for free altcoins at least when as bigenners.

It's definately not that; participants of any ALTCOIN giveaway are to be banned; regardless of the board the thread is posted in. A little bit of research can save you a lot of trouble

1511  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: A little doubt about giveaway thread!! on: April 07, 2020, 09:59:38 PM
this is a public forum

For starters, this is NOT a public forum. It is a forum, owned y someone, where you have to register and agree to follow some rules in order to use it.

Airdrops are not allowed on the Altcoin boards; this does not look like a "pure" airdrop, because not everyone is getting the shitcoin, but it could be considered as one....

But i recently remember a wave of temp bans happened with about 40 users who applied in a giveaway. Most of them are experienced reputable users. From what i can remember, the reason was that giveaways are only accepted if it's a bitcoin giveaway.

These users where banned because the airdrop was originally posted on the Bitcoin boards, and then moved to the Altcoin section, where users got banned because it was an altcoin airdrop. Nevertheless, most of those users got their bans lifted because of the confusion it generated.

OP, in the fututre, when in doubt, click the report to moderator button and explain everything in the comments you can leave  Wink

Make sure you have made the backup of the seed OFFLINE or non-digital; there have been quite some cases lately of people doing it on a photo/notepad/digital and loosing all their funds.
1514  Other / Meta / Re: I just want to know why my post was deleted. on: April 06, 2020, 08:08:11 PM
For what I'm reading, it was most likely off-topic. A signature campaign application is not a debate thread to discuss what merit is and what it works for; also, it's a bit hard to understand what you are trying to say, which could be taken as a machine translation (which is not allowed)

Unfortunately Virustotal can only help you with already known threats and viruses by comparing the code to known threats. If you are unlucky and download a file that contains a fresh code with a virus then Virustotal will not be able to help you since it is the first time they see the code. The results can come back as clean while in fact you get infected and if you do a 2nd scan in a few days you see that some antivirus engines are already registering the file as a threat.

Using AV's (whether paid ones on your computer, or online services like virustotal) does only protect you against 1) known and very wide-spread malware and 2) malware created by script-kiddies or any other non-commercial cyber criminals.

(1) Utilizar la plataforma online para detectar virus, troyanos, gusanos y malware antes de descargar e instalar cosas de fuentes desconocidas;

If you lack the knowldenge to be involved in trading, don't do trading. I think that's the best advice anyone can give you. If you do that, there is little difference between trading and gambling, and in both scenarios you end up loosing all your money.

You could otherwise buy bitcoin or another established altcoin and HODL. See if in a couple of years the price has gone up, and take the profits.

1518  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Discussion (Altcoins) / Re: Coin Announcements on: April 06, 2020, 03:30:34 PM
You are in Bitcointalk so we mainly discuss Bitcoin. Nevertheless, there is a board for Altcoins, should you be interested in those. But be advised, for my point of view, taht section is mostly spam and scams; there are thousands of tokens, each one aiming for a different "solution" of something, and in the end, they all end up being bait for speculation and being pumped/dumped without any real value. There are however a couple of coins that may be something more than speculation (ETH, DOGE, LTC), but those are only a few compared to the thousands of other shitcoins.

If you are interested in checking prices, you can use CMC or coingecko.

Be careful as to which exchange you use, since some have been proven to be shady to say the least (yobit).

And I don't think there's much more to say....

I don't really understand why you'd be forced to sell your BTC back for USDT here...

I think that the most likely scenario is that he wants to do margin-trading and that forces you to close the positions; you don't really exchange/own the coins like in a normal exchange situation. Otherwise, I'm a bit lost

I've got it in Binance.

But isn't there a way to do a straight swap on the charts itself?

Other than that, Binance should let you simply buy BTC and do whatever you want with it (withdraw, exchange,  ...)

I don't know if that is what you call a "straight swap"....
