1781  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Elon Musk again on: March 13, 2021, 03:40:25 AM
Nah, Elon is just trolling every bitcoiner,  Smiley He may have meant, TBC (The Best Crypto).

So I don't consider it a swipe, maybe he just wanted BTC to be in the discussion again and push the price to $60k and above.
The Boring Company is one of his many companies that is focused on creating tunnels for logistics and such, why would he make a mistake like that? If he wants to push the price then we should be ready to go for long because this tweets that involve bitcoin is going to pump the prices.
1782  Other / Meta / Re: Why can merit decrease ?.......... on: March 13, 2021, 03:04:55 AM
Yes, this can happen. And it happened on several occasions...
But on the page where you give the merit, it says that it can't be taken away or undone, I am pretty confused because that means that anyone can be a target of this in a way or that it can be abused. I never thought that that is a possibility.
1783  Economy / Speculation / Re: Keep up with the technical and fundamental trends of the market on: March 12, 2021, 10:52:12 AM
I thought that the past few stimulus packages were just a coincidence in terms of when they were announced and when Bitcoin started rising but I guess it's really true now. Biden's package is even more enormous though and Bitcoin still struggling to hit ATH again so maybe the effect can't be sustained this time, who knows?
It is not a coincidence that it did hit ATH when the stimulus were distributed, with a lot of influencers on the Internet shilling that they should put their stimulus in bitcoin, then it is no brainer that the prices spiked at those times. I agree that we should keep up with the trends but we have to also consider that we need a life outside speculating bitcoin.
1784  Economy / Economics / Re: holding bitcoin from early 2010 till today on: March 12, 2021, 10:17:18 AM
I thought OP is the one that was hodling bitcoin way back in 2010. We would know if there is someone who still hodl bitcoin from 2010 because there are some addresses that are sleeping and they might be or might not be lost but we still have hope that they are going to wake up, as far as I know, there won't be a lot of people that is hodling that much bitcoin for almost a decade, a lot of ATH have popped up along the way so the likelihood that they are still hodling is close to zero for me.
1785  Economy / Economics / Re: 'Cryptocurrency is not legitimate money,' says Nigeria's central bank governor on: March 12, 2021, 09:36:55 AM
In a way he is right because cryptocurrency doesn't have that much legal standing in many countries and the only way to become one is if the government recognizes and considers cryptocurrency as a legal tender which is difficult because cryptocurrency is supposed to be a decentralized financial tool which is in direct conflict of centralized financial institutions.
1786  Economy / Economics / Re: How are network fees determined? on: March 12, 2021, 08:52:17 AM
In a way, you can think of network fee as a bribe to prioritize your transaction out of the other million transactions out there, and hopefully we can solve this problem of high fees for transaction as they are really bad for small transactions. There isn't a lot that I can say with OP as most of the replies already did the job.

would not call it bribe, it is a regular fee for speed-up your transaction
someone that want to put transaction for a few USD is not willing to pay high transaction fees, but that is a way to fight spam, and optimize network performance

if you want to send some money, and you are willing to pay enough fee, you can do that in a matter of real-time, there is no similar cross-border transaction system, and that have price attached with it
Isn't that how bribe works? That is why I said it in a way it resembles bribe because it speeds up transactions which is the same as bribe where you have to get this document this moment but the only way to get it fast is to slide some money to butter up the transaction. There are some similar system although they are really different at first glance, take Amazon Prime as an example, you need to have this status so your items are more prioritized.
1787  Economy / Economics / Re: The End of Covid Scam? "Governor Abbott Opens Texas 100 Percent" on: March 12, 2021, 07:35:05 AM
Its time to bounce back and I don't think Covid is a scam, many doctors are working for this and a lot of them died fighting the virus, so its not fair to be called that this virus is a scam, maybe the government are scam but not all the health workers.

We have to resume the economy and continue to live, this vaccine looks promising and hoping that we can go back to normal this year.
The problem with the sudden reopening of the economy is that it will be difficult for the vaccine rollout to keep up with the possibility of the increase of infected because the economy was fully reopened. Not to mention that USA is full of retarded people who thinks that vaccines is the devil and that they should avoid having it while at the same time going out in public not wearing any protective implements and spreading the virus even more. What is needed is to increase the vaccine rollout so they can build a faster herd immunity to which they can safely reopen the economy as herd immunity is already present.
1788  Economy / Economics / Re: How are network fees determined? on: March 12, 2021, 06:57:55 AM
Bitcoin fee is also determined by network traffic. Fees tend to increase If network traffic is high/congested. If network isn't congested, fee remains low. Certain Wallet providers usually recommend fee higher than normal network fee to increase transaction speed.
In a way, you can think of network fee as a bribe to prioritize your transaction out of the other million transactions out there, and hopefully we can solve this problem of high fees for transaction as they are really bad for small transactions. There isn't a lot that I can say with OP as most of the replies already did the job.
1789  Economy / Economics / Re: Nigerian Banks To Close Accounts Involved with Crypto on: March 12, 2021, 06:20:31 AM
Will there be a chance for the owners of those accounts to get all their money from that account? Because if not, I think that it is going to spark an outrage on the crypto community. The good thing about this is that the overall crypto activity in the region is not going to be affected, it just looks like it but the people that are involved in crypto and uses banks is the only one affected albeit they are small, I think that it is alarming that the Central Bank is going to get involved.

There is absolutely no way the government of Nigeria can successfully ban crypto in the country.
It is not a total ban, this is just a bank centered and not as a whole so we don't have to worry much or be angry about it. It is good that they are banning it on banks because these will cement the idea that banks are oppressive towards the people.
1790  Economy / Economics / Re: Big test for Bitcoin during the next Economic Collapse. on: March 12, 2021, 05:43:37 AM
Only one way to find that out is if there is going to be a collapse, we didn't have any collapse that is as drastic as the Great Depression and 1929 Wallstreet crash with the Internet so that is also another test that we should be looking out for, if Internet will survive a crash because if it does then bitcoin and other cryptocurrency is going to survive too.
1791  Economy / Economics / Re: Trader buys $36 million of copper and gets painted rocks instead on: March 12, 2021, 05:04:58 AM
I am pretty sure that the company don't mind that their precious metals were stolen because as far as I know, those are insured in a way or that they can easily be recovered from the thieves, not to mention that those stolen coppers are going to have a hard time being sold in the market because it is tainted and the only way for it to be sold is when they don't sell it publicly which is the likely thing to happen.

Ideally, the use of any insurance policy is recommended for such transactions but according to the report, the buyer has been duped ...
Too bad that they didn't consider it, I believe that this is a planned heist because 36 million dollars worth of copper is not something that can be stolen in a heartbeat, planning was involved and inside jobs are definitely a possibility.
1792  Economy / Economics / Re: Trader buys $36 million of copper and gets painted rocks instead on: March 12, 2021, 04:10:21 AM
That incident was a brazen act of stupidity coming from those criminals who thought they can escape the teeth of law. Meanwhile, I think the buyer company has been complacent enough that they did little to ensure that the copper cargo would be accompanied by their own representative and the insurance papers verified for their veracity considering that the transaction involves a considerable amount of money. Imho.

1793  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: I quit smoking and buy Bitcoin every week on: March 11, 2021, 10:20:53 AM
70$ is a lot of money in my country and I am quite shocked because a pack here is around 3$, that must be a lot of cigarettes. Good thing that I don't smoke because I have a lot of things that I wanted to spend on and cigarette is not one of them. There are helpful apps to keep on track with how much money you are saving by not smoking and that can be psychologically helpful as you have some sort of positive reinforcement for your commitment to stop smoking.

I guess the OP is from Turkey and there the GST is quite high for products such as alcohol and cigarettes. It is the same in most of the EU nations as well. The governments allow alcohol and cigarette sales only because they can be taxed very heavily. Else there is no reason for the government to allow their sales. So you can't really complain about the prices. There are only two options - pay 200% or 300% tax on them, or get ready to live without these products.
That kind of taxation is present in my country too although it is mostly on cigarettes, the audacity of the tobacco companies to complain that the taxation will be bad for them when they are the one exploiting the tobacco farmers is the most stupid thing ever that made my blood boil. It never deterred smokers to buy their packs, a small percentage stopped altogether and a little bit bigger than the latter reduced the packs that they consume and there seem to be more everyday, I won't complain about taxation on vices, the problem is that the taxes that comes from it are not used properly.
1794  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Time to sell my BTC? on: March 11, 2021, 09:31:12 AM
If you trust bitcoin you can just put it all still into it and hold it for long term. But it all depends on your decision. While it is still good to diversify your coin like selling half part of your btc and buy some potential altcoins, whatever your actions, yhe best thing is to manage them well and not too greedy if you reach your goal profit.

Since you already made some profit from that then you can just use your profit to widen your investment.
But if OP doesn't have a clear time frame for what is long-term for him/her investment that could mean that OP might do something dumb that might destroy his/her possible big profit. My advice to OP is to make sure that you are in need of money for your daily life because you might miss out on a big jump and lose the chance to get more out of your bitcoin.
1795  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: China Declares War on Bitcoin (?) on: March 11, 2021, 08:45:54 AM
Pretty hypocritical for Chinese Community Party(CCP) to ban bitcoin when they are the only one hodling the total bitcoin in China. I knew that when these CBDC thing goes on the road, bitcoin and other cryptocurrency is definitely going to be affected the most and with the Great Firewall of China, I think that they can do the bitcoin prohibition in their country.
1796  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Will NFT bring any change in crypto gambling industry? on: March 11, 2021, 08:09:11 AM
I think that NFT can change how we play in gambling although it won't be for a lot of games, maybe they will introduce NFT chips in poker where you have the chips have a corresponding value and the only way for them to grow in value is when they are being used in poker matches. NFTs can be used as a means of payment for almost any games that I can think of in any online casinos. Also, Elon doesn't have a wife, he is divorced and his current partner is Grimes meaning that they aren't yet husband and wife, but that is not the point, the ones who get in the NFT bandwagon first is definitely seeing a big profit.
1797  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: ESPORTS - predictions and tips (Dota 2, CS:GO, LoL) on: March 11, 2021, 07:33:38 AM
That odds is a little unattractive in my opinion, are they new teams that has popped up because I don't have any updates on who is currently the teams playing in DOTA2 for over 9 months now and I think that there has been a lot of changes especially in the meta.
Dota Team have a couple of the former VP players like Ramzes and Solo.

High Coast is basically the old NiP roster or Chicken Fighters if you've heard them back then.

Team Spirit took in the players of Yellow Submarine I think they're somewhat new as these guys started from the tier two scene and improved a lot similar to the new VP squad.

The meta didn't change that much but there was a lot of roster changes recently now that the first season ended on most regions.
That is pretty nice considering that Ramzes and Solo are sticking together in this new team, too bad that they are not VP anymore. I have heard of NiP, and I think that the team NiP was disbanded, pretty good that they are the same players that made another team. The only player that I know in Team Spirit is Illidan and that was a long time ago. Well, there are new items introduced in the game so I think that the meta will definitely change.
1798  Economy / Economics / Re: Bitcoin could win the currency war on: March 11, 2021, 06:56:24 AM
Bitcoin is no doubt one of the best assets to invest but it does not show any sign to become the next main currency. No government will let such a phenomenon take over their control over the monetary system. Even though bitcoin can get mass adoption from the people, without acceptance from the government, it can not make any big impact on the currency war
It won't show any signs even in the foreseeable future, the population is steadily growing and I don't think that even after the last block is mined at year 2140, bitcoin won't be enough for it to circulate around the world considering by that time we might hit a 10 billion population mark. The only way to win these currency war that everyone is pertaining is not to participate in it but instead at the least coexist with the current system.
1799  Economy / Economics / Re: The President creates a "Ministery of Extraterrestrial Affairs" on: March 11, 2021, 06:20:30 AM
Politicians are usually characterized by throwing money on imbecilities, but this one takes the cake. The other problem is, I'm sure many who voted for him will think it's a good idea, as is often the case.
Considering Nicaragua was once the landing strip for Escobar's cocaine and also was their safe haven and they have CIA backed drug trafficking contra rebels, I think that this kind of stupidity is not that surprising, the problem obviously lies with the people, if they were smart enough to think for themselves then they will be able to vote the right person in that seat of power.
1800  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Does knowing your sport and teams really make you better at betting on them? on: March 11, 2021, 05:27:36 AM
Knowing the teams that you bet on is going to make you better at sports betting but not the sports itself, maybe you should learn the basics of the sports to understand what is happening but sports team knowledge is a top priority because they are the ones that is going to decide how the game concludes, if you bet on a team not knowing that they are a bad team then you will lose money. Although there are some exceptions where you got lucky and bet on an unknowingly bad team and that team miraculously won the match.
