1021  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Alert: stay away from new type of bitcoin scam on: January 26, 2021, 11:51:14 PM
Most people especially the newcomers are here for the quick cash thinking bitcoin is good for that. Without realizing that like any other investment, it takes time for bitcoin to grow and give the buyer a chance to yield the benefits, so they get attracted to these bitcoin multiplier scams thinking it will give them what they needed, but instead be tricked by the scammer.
This mode of fraud is common and I am not surprised anymore. There are thousands of telegram groups spreading this type of scam and many emails I receive about bitcoin prizes given to me on the condition of making a deposit on a website aimed at by scammers. Even dozens of scammers also contacted me directly via telegram private messages.
Nothing that will provide such easy benefits, no bitcoin giveaway that will come suddenly. Everything is just a hoax created by a scammer, so be careful.
exactly. Bitcoin scams become dumber and dumber nowadays but I guess it caters to its target audience anyway. That being said, people should be more vigilant and more intelligent in taking care of their money. Be it in bitcoins or not
1022  Economy / Economics / Re: Is Bitcoin's price drop to 30K healthy? on: January 26, 2021, 11:45:54 PM
Bear market or not, this market dipping is enough and necessary to cleanse out the system. It is also a much needed feature that would allow newcomers to get a taste of that bitcoin supremacy. So it is definitely necessary regardless even if this is bear market, spike, or dip we are having right now
1023  Economy / Economics / Re: What percentage of your total assets would you rather invest in bitcoin? on: January 26, 2021, 07:06:10 PM
Bitcoin, despite what altcoins make it out to be, is still a profitable asset and a must-have in every crypto investor's portfolio, regardless if its price went up the hundred thousands. You might be asking why, well simply because out of all the coins in the market, bitcoin provides better security than most of them, of course in terms of being active in the market. So you have little chance of going wrong with bitcoin, whether it be up or down. Combine this with DCA and you're unstoppable!
1024  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Another insane win!! $ 1B mega million jackpot on: January 26, 2021, 07:03:19 PM
It would be compulsory for the agency facilitating these lotteries to conceal the winner's names and identity whether they like it or not, this is to further protect their privacy and fend off potential criminals from doing harm against them. Sure, their neighbors may know about it, but it's better than having 50 states know that you won a billion dollar jackpot eh?
I envy lucky people in gambling. I guess if it's meant for you you will win it no matter how often you have bet on lotteries. This huge amount of money can sustain your lifetime expenses if used wisely, you can also use this huge amount to start a business. I just hope the winner can secure his funds properly. It would be best if they will keep the winner anonymous for security purposes.
If it's any consolation, their odds at winning is the same as ours, they just got way too early at winning than us. So you either succumb yourself to your envy, or work our way up the top of the ladder so we don't have to rely too much on luck to have a productive life.
1025  Economy / Economics / Re: Is there subject to study Cryptocurrency ? on: January 26, 2021, 02:02:23 AM
No direct subject in a school setting unfortunately, sp you'll have tp fill yourself with knowledge gained from the internet to be able to learn more about cryptocurrencies in general. Though you can learn more about how it works in an economic sense by attending economics classes, plus you can understand how they work by attending IT classes as well. Try Khan Academy, I'm not exactly sure if rhey have cryptocurrency lessons but it's worth a shot
1026  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Driving to the moon? HODLer installs portable mining rig in BMW on: January 26, 2021, 01:59:36 AM
I don't think alone by itself the car's technology would be able to handle the heat that will be generated from mining bitcoin and as you mentioned ethereum as well. Not to mention the weights of the graphic cards he will have to use in order to effectively mine bitcoin. I think this project he's doing is showing us how he think mining of the future will be.
This is more of a fun experiment than a serious venture into crypto mining. Well, at least he's clear about setting it up "to annoy gamers."

As regards cost-benefit, I'm not sure if it's practical for anybody to do this. The car has a battery which could support the mining, of course, but then for the battery to charge, the alternator has to be working. Otherwise, the car's battery could easily be drained. For the alternator to work, the car's engine has to be turned on, thereby consuming fuel.

This is, therefore, practical only when Simon's on the move.
exactly, it doesn't have that much practical use today and he's risking his luxury car's integrity in order to get a few bitcoins here and there. But I guess if you could own a, luxury car like that you wouldn't really mind the coats of repair and all
1027  Economy / Economics / Re: Will Biden raise the federal minimum wage from 7.25 USD per hour to 15 USD? on: January 26, 2021, 01:43:09 AM
I don't think business owners will suffer huge losses from paying their employees fairly. If anything, this allows the people to have more power in their hand especially those in the borderline poverty whose forced to work for multiple jobs to make ends meet. I don't think it's unfair for them to earn more yet still fairly for a fair day's pay.
1028  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Grayscale gets $700M in funding on: January 26, 2021, 01:40:27 AM
Actively buying huge chunks of bitcoin to support your own cryptocurrency which basically works like bitcoin except its your own cryptocurrency is basically a good recipe for something bad to happen. Might as well just buy bitcoin traditional and stick with it instead of haggling over this corporate-owned cryptocurrency.
1029  Economy / Economics / Re: Miami mayor considers investing in bitcoin with public funds on: January 25, 2021, 08:26:53 PM
More and more people inspired to invest in cryptocurrencies, it is music to my ears. Bitcoin is the most trustworthy coin on the market right now, and is the gateway coin of many of us into the industry. What I am most concerned about is the man's integrity. He could get so greedy as to use bitcoin to launder the people's money, which I hope don't happen of course.
1030  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: January 2021 — share your gambling experiences on: January 25, 2021, 08:23:30 PM
January has been so-so for the most of us, despite huge gains provided by the ETH and bitcoin ATH, most people haven't felt, or in worst occasions felt disempowered by the huge gas fees abd transaction fees they will have to pay to reap their rewards. While on the other hand, betfury and Roobet continue to grow in number and popularity, which definitely makes them a formidable force in the gambling industry.
It is difficult to give an idea about the month of January. I guess it's not much different from other months as players have a different schedule anyway. I find it remarkable that Manchester United are doing so well. And Chelsea fell back hard. betting on United games could give a good profit
Exactly, January is a very bland month for many people. Liked how you incorporated sports gambling in here too!
1031  Other / Off-topic / Re: Japanese elitist already know the end game of economy on: January 24, 2021, 09:56:55 PM
I'm not sure if OP is joking or not but I can't take this seriously. The way you're trying to put it is just too weird and funny. Nonetheless, on the other side of the spectrum we have Japan being one of the most formidable countries in Asia as of the moment, just a little push in their economy and we'll be sure as shooting this country's gonna take over the world. Provided they do something about their declining birth rate.
1032  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Hamster powered races on: January 24, 2021, 09:23:55 PM
I've seen the video from a random recommendation from YouTube. I mist say, the whole gist of it is actually fantastic in a sense that nobody else had actually thought about this before. Now my question is, how can we ensure the hamster's productivity? Like let's say a game is supposed to happen this day but the hamster is not cooperating, how can we avoid that in a manner that is both human and practical?
Hi all,
Thanks for your interest in our game!
You can find our official announcement post in the altcoin subforum,
since we are using ETH and are not allowed to post in the main Gambling forum.
Make sure to subscribe there, because discussion threads like this one tend to be locked by mods after some time and we can't post to inform you about updates. You can also follow us on Twitter: @miandthemarbles

Unfortunately it is not that easy for us to add BTC as a payment option since we are using some of the more advanced features of the ethereum blockchain that allow us to do automatic payouts and guaranteed refunds. But we will investigate the Directbet's payout solution some have mentioned in here, thanks for that.
In case you know of other ways to integrate BTC into Ethereum please let us know.

At the moment there are no races taking place because of the high transaction fees on the ethereum network. They are causing the betting fees and operation costs to skyrocket which is why we decided to temporarily postpone the next race until further notice.
However, we are working on the integration of a layer 2 solution which will provide us with better scalability and dramatically lower the tx fees for betters.

We love to take the opportunity to address your questions and concerns raised in this thread:

Animal welfare
Mia (the hamster) is not forced to do anything, as some have already pointed out.
Also she runs just as much as she wants. Currently, every 2km she runs, a new marble race starts.
If she is not in the mood for running much for a longer period (days or weeks), we can just lower that threshold to have more races. So the game adapts to her, not the other way around.
Typically she is still running in the wheel during a marble race, but on some race videos you see her getting out of the wheel and watching the marbles or just run around.

Safety of bets
As there is no guarantee that a race will take place within a certain time (Mia might get ill or just not be in the mood to run, or something far worse like an earthquake might happen),
our smart contract has an integrated refund functionality which is enabled automatically 2 days after the round has started.
You can verify this for yourself and take a look at the contract’s source code on etherscan.

Track length
We started with a short track because we wanted to make it not too random so that players can make educated guesses and not everything is dependent on pure luck.
As it turned out, the outcomes on the current short track are already very random. Making the track longer with more obstacles makes it even more unpredictable.
It looks like finding the right balance between predictability and entertainment is quite tricky for marble races, so we might as well do longer and more entertaining race tracks in the future.
After all, it should make fun to play and watch, and a longer track is certainly more entertaining!

Marble weight
We actually never measured them. But the statistics of the ~170 races during the beta phase (which you can see on the bottom of the “past races” page) did not show an advantage of any certain marble.
We don’t think that weight is a big factor, the obstacles have a much higher impact on the outcome of the races.
On a completely unobstructed track, weight would become the dominant factor for sure.

House edge
We are taking 20% of the pot, however >50% of that goes into the next round as seed money. That being said, there is no guarantee for us to make a profit in every round, and under certain circumstances it can also result in a loss for us.

Okay this answers my question regarding the welfare of the animal. Glad to hear that Mia is doing well and is taken care of to the best of your abilities. One last question, in the event that Mia passes away, what are your plans? What will be the future of the game?
1033  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Manny Paquiao VS Connor McGreggor? on: January 24, 2021, 08:52:47 PM
I don't see how this would happen considering Mcgregor's current state. He's physically capable and all but it looks like the man already lost his passion. From that fight with Mayweather where he got clobbered in a fight he wasn't even well-versed in, he totally lost the passion in fighting. That being said, the guy just needs a break, they both still have their abilities with them and provided they both get proper training, in a match that's fair and square, we'll have something really good to talk about for decades to come.
1034  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: People die from heart attack when they hit the jackpot. on: January 24, 2021, 07:41:21 PM
With everything comes a Taijitu, the taoist belief of Yin and Yang. Now I don't wanna get all philosophical around here but what I'm trying to say is. Sometimes, the world will take something of equal value to you after it has given you something. Might be good or bad, or might come sooner or later. Point is, it always catches up.

As for the case of these poor old fellas. I feel sorry about them dying before they can even enjoy their winnings. So might as well work your heart out. So you can guarantee yourself winning at least in the health department. Which is much more important and achievable than winning a jackpot.
1035  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why kids born in 2140 don`t get a chance to mine rewards? on: January 24, 2021, 12:10:02 AM
Well I don't really think it matters that much if the people or our kids' kids' kids in the near future won't have the chance to mine. Coz then again it's just cryptocurrency anyway, and with an unhoardable coin like bitcoin per se, you can't expect anyone, not even now to earn so much bitcoin he can effectively become a ruler of the future world.
1036  Economy / Economics / Re: Does Bitcoin Help The Poor on: January 23, 2021, 11:57:15 PM
What bitcoin helps the poor most is the fact that it gives the people the ppwer to control their spending ability once again without the interference of banks, and the fact that it can enable the person to get in the world of investing in as low as $20. Although of course, the person would most of the time opt to cash in more in hopes of better gains, but yeah, that is pretty much what I like the most about bitcoin.
1037  Economy / Economics / Re: Are Cryptocurrencies Really Money? on: January 23, 2021, 11:53:59 PM
Well, they are not money per se. But are a bunch of code lines meant to represent what a currency would appear like and woukd be used like inside a virtual space like the internet. Thus is done through the blockchain where all information regarding the cryptocurrency in question is placed, whether discovered or not.
1038  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: I predict stricter regulations for bitcoin and the cryptospace for 2021-2024 on: January 23, 2021, 06:46:20 PM
Not so sure about that, bitcoin may get imposed on of stricter rules and regulations but that wouldn't stop it from prevailing as the people's very own currency. Then again, since US is a strong country with a majority of investors and supporters being Americans, this will definitely put bitcoin to a very bad spot.
1039  Economy / Economics / Re: Can you put your investment motto in one sentence when you enter the cryptocurre on: January 23, 2021, 05:38:47 PM
I don't really have a motto per se when I started investing in cryptocurrencies. Although I do have a question that I always ask myself before locking on a coin that I am feeling with, "Will my 5 years in the future self be proud of this?" In order to ensure that I am always in the right mind when making decisions
I only do things that are profitable in crypto even though it's risky, for me nothing is perfect in crypto, but we try to do our best to get profit rather than not doing at all and end up disappointed. that is my motto in investing
Go big or go home so they say. This applies very well in cryptocurrencies that already established their names to the public like bitcoin and ethereum, but for budding coins, this may not work that well
1040  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Betting History - 2020 on: January 23, 2021, 04:45:12 PM
Thanks for sharing your gambling journey last year. 2020 is an eye-opener for most of us where we realized that our 9-5 jobs can be lost in a snap of a finger. And I don't really blame you for choosing gambling as your way of making mney this pandemic. Just hoping that with you sharing your story to us, you have also learned most things that you otherwise wouldn't learn. Like being more wise in betting and knowing when to quit while still ahead.
