1221  Economy / Speculation / Re: Is the bull run near already? on: May 24, 2023, 11:11:17 PM
Not sure what to take about this news, but I will take it with a bag of salt really. China is becoming the next Russia as far as making a U-turn about their stance on crypto, (for sure old members know what I'm talking).

Bull run doesn't start with a news like this, it starts after the bitcoin block halving which is still very far, at least a year from now. So I wouldn't put to much emphasize on this news, and as we can obviously see, it didn't have any effect on the current price. On the contrary in the last 24 hours, the price seems to go down to 3% and that is huge.

1223  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: BetterCallRaul.it Domain Seized or Scammed on: May 24, 2023, 10:14:41 PM
This case is just really mysterious to me, hehehe. I don't know but I will play a devils advocate here. The domain name itself, not sure if anyone here is familiar with "Breaking Bad" tv series that was a hit in 2008-2013, a story about a a chemistry teacher who struggles in life, and then he was diagnosed with a lung cancer. And suddenly turn his skills into good use by becoming a drug dealer to produce and distribute methamphetamine.

And then a spin off titled "Better Call Saul" (sounds familiar?), which is the prequel, set before the original "Breaking Bad", but shows the moral decline of the character that really shows how he turns to be the bad guy in the end, so it's a tragedy, again, sounds familiar? hehehehe.

Breaking news, when we thought that the fight is dead, this news surface in the last 12 hours or so,

I know, we have to wait for the official announcement, but Mike Coppinger is reliable source so boxing fans for sure are excited again to hear that this fight is going to be made.
1225  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin price motivation benchmark: on: May 23, 2023, 10:15:17 PM
For me Bitcoin has been my 100% portfolio and up to this point, I am glad that I choose that part even though Bitcoin price has undergone a lot of changes lately, my BTC vs $ balance has shown green and also red-negative movements which is a pointer to the activeness of bitcoin volatilities.

Depends on your entry level, if you have been keeping BTC since it's bottom last year, for sure it's been great already. Bottom price is $15,500 and current price is $27k, so that is a big jump in price movement.

Knowing that Bitcoin is volatile in DCA pricing and also having a balanced market that shows not too much of a sign, e.g. 50% price movement within a few hours which is a sign of pump, or a drop in price significantly below 50% which is a sign of dumped.

Doesn't matter if it is volatile though, If you are here for the long haul, then you will just continue to do DCA regardless of the price. And that is the beauty of using this strategy.

Bitcoin has a cycle to help calculate its movement unlike those altcoins that have high centralization, subject to pump.

Yes, but still, there are a lot of factors to look at and we can all just make our predictions based on his historical past.
1226  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: [Boxing] Devin Haney vs Vasiliy Lomachenco - May 20 on: May 23, 2023, 10:00:29 PM
It was reported that this fight just did 275k-300k buy in the PPV market.

Way off when you compare it to the Garcia vs Davis fight which did over 1 million PPV. And that's the difference really between a fighter that can market themselves like Ryan and Tank as against the belt holder in Haney. And that is one thing that they said against Haney, is that he did poor in PPV. But let's see if Tank or Shakur or anyone calling him is going to happen and see if the numbers will do good against his fight with Loma.

Although personally I thought that Loma vs Haney will do like at least 500k buys.
1227  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Boxing: Errol Spence vs Keith Thurman on: May 23, 2023, 09:46:51 PM
^^ We are losing hope though, we haven't heard anything from either camp, and Spence has another long layoff and then Thurman just running his mouth but not saying if this fight is going to happen or not.

So it looks like this fight is going to be in the shelved for now. Maybe Spence is looking for another opponent or Thurman playing his cards and wanted to get a good pay check. Both are not getting any younger though.

1229  Other / Meta / Re: Crimes of signatures campaign affects forum? on: May 21, 2023, 10:42:42 PM
I have taught of this seriously and I began to have a biased concern to bitcointalk if any signatures campaigns in bitcointalk can affects the existence of bitcointalk if they commit a crime that leads to government investigations. Secondly do we believe that bitcointalk can  be obstructed by government if their is a noticeable crime by the management? From my understanding it seems to me that bitcoin existence is different from the bitcointalk forum and without the existence of bitcointalk forum bitcoin will continue existing, what's your take on this.
This idea came to me through what happened to the site of bitcointalk few days ago which I couldn't logins my account for sometimes, I wasn't happy when the incident occur. Please I asked this few questions because I want to know what I don't know, and if my question is not ideal please don't crucify me.

You are not the only who experienced that issues. It went offline for:

[..snip..]
That means it was down for everyone for 3 hours and 8 minutes.

And according to Theymos:

My best guess at this point is that it was a random failure of some networking hardware. It doesn't look like any failure I've seen before, so it's difficult to diagnose. It doesn't particularly look like a DDoS or other attack, though I can't rule it out.

There won't be any downtime if/when I change anything regarding images.

So it has nothing to do with signature campaigns in this community.

I'm not really sure about your questions about government investigation, but let me cite our dear administrator again:

This is not very surprising/interesting, but I thought I'd mention that I received a subpoena for information related to Ross Ulbricht's alleged forum account altoid. I mostly just compiled some publicly-available information. The only non-public data I had to include were some deleted posts in the heroin store topic that were not written by DPR and probably won't be useful in the case.

You might be surprised to learn that this is the first subpoena I've received for the forum.
1230  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: [Boxing] Devin Haney vs Vasiliy Lomachenco - May 20 on: May 21, 2023, 04:38:30 AM
It's the last round,

It's very close so far but I have Loma leading by just a point going into the 12th. Loma asserting himself from round 9 and become the bigger guy here.

Edit: The scores were 116-112, 115-113 and 115-113 for Haney. Damn. They screw Loma here big time.

I had the same score going into the 12th but I gave Haney that last round so for me it was a draw. I think there was enough swing rounds where you can make an argument for either guy winning. I won't call it a robbery but I would love to see a rematch to clear up any doubts. Haney seems like he's ready to move up in weight so there is no guarantee that we will see a second fight.

Yes, it could also be a draw, but the scoring though, 116-112? In any case, I think Haney will stay and wait for Shakur for a bigger payday.
1231  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: A Mail I Received Today.. on: May 20, 2023, 11:28:14 PM
Like I said above, I know this is a spam mail and possibly a scam attempt, but what I don't get is that, the scammer didn't mention a website or wallet app (aside PayPal and coinbase) where I could try to claim the bitcoin they claim i supposedly bought from them, as I believe this has always been their normal process, but rather, they provided a phone number which they claim is toll free, is this actually a plot for me to call them?
How possibly or what exactly are they possibly goin to say to me to make me send them my bitcoin?, please share if you have an idea.. And also tell us if also received such a mail before, what action did you take?.

Yes, this is a classic scam being perpetuated in the other parts of the globe.

a. the email will have the phone numbers that you have to contact
b. if you call them and you said that they you didn't initiate the transaction and they will said that they will refund you the money.
c. and then the next step is that they will ask you to download a software than can access your PC
d. then obviously they can take over your system, if let's say they want you to login to your coinbase account because that's where they are  going to refund you, thru bitcoin.

Other methods, saying that your Paypal has been limited so you will have to follow the instructions on the email.

a. the email that you will received with Paypal has a link, so if you click on it and you are not careful you will be redirected to a fake Paypal website
b. once you enter your login details, including your password then your account is compromise already.

Next one, same as the steps above, the only difference is:

a. let's say you wanted to refund $100.00 only, and after giving them access, they will edit something using Developers tools to looks like they have made a mistake of refunding you, and they made a supposedly deposit $1000.00
b. So they will ask you to give them back the $900.00.
c. Ask you to go to a store and buy Amazon Gift cards, it could be in bunch of $100.00 or $500.00.
d. Then obviously, ask you for the redeem numbers so that they can redeem it for themselves.
1232  Economy / Speculation / Re: High tx fee has historically marked the sell-off. Is this time different?? on: May 20, 2023, 11:02:40 PM
What happened was repeated 3 times, and those times were related to the end of a cycle or the beginning of a price cycle, and therefore it is logical to understand that its impact was bad on prices by leading to a correction, but it is wrong to rely on it as a long-term influence.
At the end of 2017 when the fees went up, the price of bitcoin was much higher than it was at the beginning of the year. Likewise, the same thing in the middle of the year 2022.

As far as we can conclude that high fees mean that a short-term correction is expected, but it does not tell us anything long-term.

There is a small problem now is that we do not know whether the increase in fees will be instantaneous or sustainable?

We seems to be back to "normal", not the 1 sat/vB transaction fees, but I think it will be like 10 sat/vb or higher now. I know, it's has balloon so much and we all know who is the culprit. And as you questioned it, will it be sustainable? or the bitcoin core dev team will do something again similar to 2017 debates and what not.

And we are not even in the bull run yet, so just imagine what will be the fee when we starts going parabolic. And what will be the entity behind this spam attack will do, for sure we all know that their aim of. And so if they manage to time their attack again in the bull run, it's going to be a big problem for average joe investors/traders as we will have to pay higher fees which is not good.

The price though is still on the sideways, $26k-$27k in the last week or so.
1233  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Budget For Halving on: May 20, 2023, 10:36:39 PM
Hearing more success stories of halving and reading from https://www.cointree.com/learn/bitcoin-success-stories/, my whole thought changed about bitcoin and halving, the time is worth putting on the calendar. The big month may be April, May or June, I can't find a site that is 100% sure of this. The thought only pointed to the fact that i missed a life time changing opportunity. I can not be well on this ever again unless I make money from bitcoin, it is then and only then that I can be happy.

Yes, no one knows the exact date of the halving, but you can used (https://bitcoinblockhalf.com/) to see where we at right now.

I am seeing out budgetary plans to invest exactly $90,000 in bitcoins in 2024. When others are impatient, I usually plan. The plan is to get this from my saving and loan. The action for more savings was kick started last month, it can see me through to the time of the investment when I will stop.

The plan of taking loan is also there, that sum to be invested has to be completed and a business money will be realized. This is awesome and is gonna take me only 2 years to pay my loan comfortably.

Why you taking a loan though? that is risky if you are going to ask me. How much is the interest of that loan? Will the profits that you are going to make (assuming you make profits), will be enough to cover for that? And how much money will be left in your pocket.

Yes, I know everyone wants to have a good ROI in the next halving, but for me taking a loan is not a good advise. You might as well do DCA, we still have a full year before the halving and for sure you can accumulate BTC or sats along the way.

https://www.facebook.com/DeathnoteHackers/

1235  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 2023 NBA Season on: May 20, 2023, 09:37:17 PM
Is all or nothing for Lakers tonight because if they don't win and they go down 3-0 ...the series is over, but if somehow they manage to put a victory and make this 2-1 , I have confidence that Lakers can win the series or at least push it to game 7.

They are playing at home, so at least they have a good chance to win, at least they just needed 1 game to just bring back the confidence of the team. They need all the help they can get from the players that bring them to this series. D'Lo will have to step up and Dennis Schröder is the key here. But as far as numbers goes?

Quote
How many times have the Lakers overcome a 0-2 deficit in the NBA Playoffs?

The Lakers have fallen behind 0-2 in a seven-game playoff series 21 times in franchise history. In those 21 instances, the Lakers have only been able to come back twice — in 2004 against the San Antonio Spurs and in 1969 against the San Francisco Warriors.

https://lakeshowlife.com/2023/05/19/many-times-lakers-come-back-0-2-nba-playoffs/

I also think that Boston can push their series up to 7th game but I do see Heat reaching the finals.

Celtics is a different story, they have the homecourt advantage in this series, they are the second best them in the East agains the number 8 seed in the Heat. But they've lost both games at Boston Celtics and now they will have to travel to a hostile crowd just to get a win and then comeback to tie the series. It's going to be very difficult for them to make back to back wins at the road. It will take a lot, both physical and mental to bring the best, specially from Tatum and Brown to lead the team.
1236  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Awareness as the major force for Bitcoin adoption on: May 19, 2023, 06:47:19 PM
Statistically 385,000 persons are born into different families across the globe, that's to say 385,000 offsprings come into this world everyday, just imagine all of this individuals having knowledge of Bitcoin.

The question becomes after acquiring the knowledge about this powerful digital currency (Bitcoin) by this group of people how many of them will purchase or invest later in other to keep it  running to get attraction of more interested fellows.

We can't and we really don't know the numbers, to be honest, it's a bad analogy. Others say that the numbers of bitcoin wallets doesn't mean that those equate numbers of individuals who are into BTC.

Adoption of Bitcoin starts with you and me and this is done by good publicity through appropriate channels making people to know what they tend to benefit as the market bum as well as the negative impact during the down- trend.

It's really hard to do that if your government is anti-Bitcoin in the beginning. For those who are living in a country wherein it was open, one negative thing though that I heard is that it is being used to scam people.

Bitcoin looks very unreal to non bitcoiners because of lack of publicity and awareness, just imagine educating your siblings, your children, parents and people you come across everyday about Bitcoin their would have been more interested investors than we have now, this would have enable Bitcoin to rise because of the market competition and HODL will benefit more in this kind of situation.

Bitcoin has been growing in the last couple of years, we've hit all time high in 2017 and 2021. And with that in then next bull run, we might see a new all time high with or without promoting it to the masses.
1237  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 2023 NBA Season on: May 19, 2023, 06:23:42 PM

If Davis could have hit that 3 in the corner or Lebron's layup, they could have a better chance. The only player that is consistent is Austin Reaves. So I will expect him to play in the next games with 20+ or more points. Schroeder so far has one of the worst game for the Lakers, he will just run circles and doesn't have the intention to score points as compare to the series against the Warriors wherein he is more aggressive driving and looking not to pass.

LeBron has really shown his age; he can no longer single-handedly carry this team, and he has to be cautious about being too aggressive when attacking the paint, as there is a higher risk of fatigue or potential injury. However, despite these challenges, the series is currently at 2-0, and it's not over yet. If the Lakers manage to win game 3, they still have a chance to turn things around and make a comeback.

Next game, the Lakers are back again on their homecourt where they are much stronger compared when they are on the road. While playing at home, statistics said that the Lakers are undefeated since from the play-in tournament up until the playoffs commenced. Not sure though if they can uphold that unstoppable victory at home because the Nuggets are just unpredictable too and they are very difficult to stop when their hands are already hot.

But, I also don't think that the Lakers will just agree with it easily without putting a good fight in their home. Having a 3-1 deficit is manageable and LeBron already proved that but if in-case it's a 3-0 in Game 3, that is a different situation and much difficult to handle.

It was a prime Lebron James though when he had to make a comeback from a 3-1 deficit. Not saying that he can't do it again, but the team is very different as well. And in Game 3, just strange for Lebron to missed a layup or that open dunk.

In any case, the next game will be in their homecourt, so I do agree that they have the advantage at Crypto.com. But they still have to play solid basketball for 48 minutes, and not allow Nuggets to take the early lead and then again, they will do the catching up because they might run out of gas again, just like the first 2 games. They need to start fast and improved their shooting percentage. And D'Lo is on the slump, so he also need to jump start at their home court to help Lebron and Davis.

As a newbie I have been wondering what to do in other to grow and contribute to the success of this forum with my little knowledge.

Where am I not getting it right?

I need orientation from senior colleagues here.

No offense, but when I checked your profile, you mostly posted on Politics & Society? Why is that so? This community is so rich with discussions about Bitcoin and Altcoin and if you want to grow then you have to explore other boards as well.

Just be yourself, don't put to much pressure on yourself, and as I have said, it's better if you will go around and play with this community first. Just continue to accumulate knowledge here. You may want to to bookmark topics that are interesting to you and then comeback to read it.

And if there is something not clear to you, then ask, simply as that.
1239  Economy / Speculation / Re: Leak Reveals Secret Democratic Plan For A Game-Changing U.S. Crypto Crackdown on: May 18, 2023, 11:23:52 PM
Coinbase is currently fighting this fight for us to get clarity.

With no luck so far. They managed to get the court to force the SEC to respond to their petition but they got denied with SEC essentially telling them to f**ck off and that they'll take however long they want to clarify the rules.
https://blockworks.co/news/sec-responds-to-coinbase-request-for-action-no

Quote
In its response, released Monday evening in New York, the SEC alleged Coinbase has no right to mandamus, which orders a government agency to fulfill certain duties.

“Perhaps recognizing this, Coinbase instead asserts that this Court should compel the Commission to act on Coinbase’s recently filed rulemaking petition,” the SEC wrote in its response. “But no statute or regulation requires the Commission to take such action on a specific timeline.”

If that is the case then they have force Coinbase against the wall, so I wouldn't be surprised before the end of the year they will be out of the US soil and going to Bermuda. And it might set a precedence as well because of the hard line stance against crypto.

We are still here though, so that's good enough news for everyone. Not even as high and big as the US will stop Bitcoin moving forward. If they created FUD to crash the market so be it. But we still have a lot of aces in our sleeves to push the market next year, and that is the halving schedule.

And according to the article, mukhang makikipag compete sila sa mga e-wallets like Gcash and Paymaya. Kaya siguro and Coins.ph eh natataranta na hehehe.
